Dr. Nguyen is a very experienced doctor who have treated me since I was 10 and has been providing the best treatment and preventative care as well! Dr. Nguyen believes in providing the best care and treatment for his patients as I have been to many dentists in the bay area who would miss finding tooth decay causing me to suffer from a root canal. I have been going to Contra Costa Dental for almost 20 years. I have seen several dentists, but Dr. Nguyen by far is my favorite. I have also avoided taking out my wisdom teeth this whole time. I finally had to take them out, and Dr. Nguyen worked his magic. I was not put under I was only numbed and to my surprise, I did not feel a thing. I mean "NOTHING" at all. Not before, during, or after my procedure. Of course, everyone is different and has a different pain tolerance, but I just want to help those that fear this procedure, or are just simply looking for a great dentist. I just got back my insurance and I felt it was time to get my dental work done.... To say the lease just like most people I know I'm never excited to go to a dentist. I walk in expecting to hear drills and crying baby's but I was shocked to hear none of that. I was greeted warmly by the people behind the front desk, asked the normal questions and given my paperwork. About 10mins after that,(the thought "that was fast.... Wait I want more time to prepare myself" went through my mind) I was called in the dentist in the back was very nice he discussed with me what I wanted to do and what discomfort I was feeling, and (I like this approach better then other dentist who go in to my mouth looking for problems)... While in the chair I'll admit that I was sweating and nervous but the dentist assured me that if I had any discomfort just put up my hand and they will stop... (kinda like a safety word) I didn't feel any pain but I did try it out a few times just to see if it would work... God this dental facility was the spot when I was a teen and still covered by my folks insurance. This is where I had my root canal done and I would say that I'm very pleased on there work. especially at the time when Dr. Chan was there. I'm not too sure right now but they were fast and easy. this place is money hungry. Went there for a root canal and dr ended up screwing me over until he finally decided to send me to a specialist. Specialist pretty much said it was too late to take care of the tooth. Had to get it removed all because the dr didn't recommend me over to the specialist from the beginning. Mind you i had 3 appts of at least 2 hrs each time! This happened about 2 years ago. Now im randomly receiving emails saying i have an appointment. I witch I could read the review for this place before, but I didn't (to bad for me), they only want $$$ specially the "stupid, rude and dum old lady who is on charge of benefits department", 1.5 hours after they start on my root canal, she send the secretary to told me that I need to pay a full amount for the crown (after talk to her 2 times before my appointment that I will take the crown that my insurance cover), half of my face with anesthesia, I told the old lady "why she didn't told me that before we start the treatment and she couldn't give me an answer, she just say that she hear what the secretary told me but she didn't correct her until 1.5 after they start the treatment. this is the worst dentist practice i have ever been to. do not go here. they just want to collect money from your insurance. they have tried to charge my relatives copays from the last 3 years that have already been paid, threatening that there may be more additional fees "if they can find it?" absolutely absurd. how do they not know what is paid and unpaid for? they are going to find copays that have not need paid? my relatives have paid in full every visit. they are taking advantage of people who do not know what the laws are. i am in the process of finding a lawyer. read more

This is the best dental office I have ever been too. The dentist is really nice. I like how he educates me about dentistry. He points out where the cavities are and how to prevent from getting it again in the future. He gives shots way better than any of my previous dentist. Its almost painless. Oh one more thing, I was very amazed when he fixed my broken front tooth. I can't even see the broken line. He really gave my smile back. I used to come here about 5 years ago when I was still in college. I would see Dr. Nguyen. At every visit it seemed odd that they told me I needed a few fillings. I finally decided to get a 2nd opinion when Dr. Nguyen advised me that I need a root canal and he would do this himself (I was informed by a friend that root canals are done be endo-specialists as opposed to dentists). I'm glad I went to Dr. Cavalli in Berkeley who has been phenomenol. I have not needed a filling in several years and my root canal was referred over to endo-care in Oakland. read more

This place is completely ripoff. Other day I took my daughter for cleaning her teeth and we spent two hours without out doing anything. After waiting an hour doctor checked her teeth and said that two of her teeth needs cavity prevention. Then he left and another hour later a lady came in and said instead of two, now she need four. She seemed like she was the owner of the place and talked totally greedy. At the end another lady came and said my daughter can only do polishing toady and for cleaning I have to comeback another time. This place is a rip off....be very careful of their recommendations for dental work after the dental examination. The receptionists tried to charge me $245.00 as an out of pocket expense for deep cleaning when my dental coverage covers this procedure. I had an appointment with them six month ago that was raving, after six months I returned for another cleaning and examination and now they tell me I have all sorts of problems wrong with my teeth, and the problems just happened to be out of pocket expenses that are NOT covered by my Delta Dental coverage..they are ripping people off!!! I walked out and am going to another dentist. On more thing, they refused to just clean my teeth, they wanted me to pay for deep cleaning. This was their recommendation to me and I have a history of going to the dentist every 6 months for over 35 years!! read more

Stay away from this place! I came in for the first time and walked up to the clerk. She didn't even bother looking up (she continued talking to her co-worker). After awkwardly standing there for about a minute, I told her it was my first time and asked if I had to fill out any paperwork. If I hadn't done so, I would've signed in, waited 30 minutes for my appointment, and then would've been told I wasn't on file. My mistake was not reading reviews on this place before I came here. It was literally 2 minutes away from home so I figured it wouldn't be so bad to try them out. Everything went well up until Dr.Nguyen went to exam my teeth. After my x-rays Dr.Nguyen literally told me that I had 7 cavities which I knew wasn't true because my previous dentist had said that she had fixed the ones that I had. I then went on to ask about fixing my chipped tooth & he said that it wouldn't even make sense to get it fixed because it would just chip again (rolls eyes) I couldn't believe he wouldn't even give me some sort of solution!! His assistant (I forget her name) then went to tell me that I needed a deep cleaning, which again I knew wasn't true. Once they gave me the bill of how much everything was going to cost with my insurance I knew this place had lost their damn mind!! Something told me to go get a second opinion which I did. Turned out I only had 1 cavity and I didn't need a deep cleaning at all besides my one cavity my teeth are healthy! And my new dentist fixed my chipped tooth without a problem! This place is a rip off!!! On my first visit I had to pay out of pocket for a bunch of work that I probably did not need. I had to go back 3 times for the dentist to fix his own work! Six months has passed and I went back and they told me that I need a deep cleaning and I have three cavities! How is that possible?! I brush my teeth and floss and visit the doctor every 6 months! After I received my consultation, I took the list of work I needed to get done and left and went to a different dentist. And guess what?! The new dentist place told me I just needed one cavity filling and that my teeth are great and that all I needed was a regular cleaning. This is the great part, the new dentist told me that the last dentist that worked on my teeth did not do a great job, so she went ahead and fixed his work! At Contra Costa dental my bill was $400.00 and at the new dentist my bill was just $13.50 after insurance. My cousin went there also and they refused to give her a regular cleaning and told her that she needs a deep cleaning and that she might need a root canal! Ive been working a long time in the US and fortunately its only now that i have a dental insurance. I had it since sept of 2015 but its only now that i was able to use it. So i went to the nearest dental office in my place which is san pablo. I told the receptionist that i wanted my teeth to be cleaned and examined as well. So the dentist came(i didnt even know his name coz he didnt even introduce himself).so he checked me up and after a few hours the receptionist (adora) came to me and explained whats the proposal treatment. At first i was a little bit confuse on how the insurance goes and on how will i be paying for the amount that my insurance would not cover. To make the long story short it will cost me $5000+ to have the treatment plan they propose. So it will max out my insurance. If thats really the cost of those treatment i cannot argue with that but the way that lady explained to me is that i should do it right away. But im still hesitant to push though with it. Then when i was reviewing my bill i come to realize that probably this dental office is ripping me off!from the looks of it just because i told them that i havent seen a dentist for quite sometime then they have all these findings etc etc.! I just want my teeth to be cleaned thats it!i even called my insurance provider and told them about the proposed treatment plan. She said that if thats a lot of money then they should foward to us that proposal and see if we approve it or else i will end up paying out of my pocket.
