[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice local bar in a strip mall we happened to stop at after a long drive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was hopping on a Thursday night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's what I'd expect of an Irish bar and local hangout so stuck to Irish whisky on the rocks. Good pour, but could improve the ice quality to cubes rather thank regular chunks.

One damn fine shot of Blanton's Single Barrel Whiskey. I had two.

Where to start? I suppose it was a scorching hot summer Saturday on 2003. My car was in the shop and they'd loaned me a convertible. So I was out all day, top down, wind in my hair, (which I had a lot of back then) enjoying San Diego. I got a good tan that day. On my way back north I was burning up and needed a cold beer. I vaguely remembered an Irish pub tucked away behind the Olive Garden in Carmel Mountain Ranch. I roared into the parking lot and drove straight into a spot, right in front of a sign reading Irish Pub. They didn't call it Conway's back then. Lots of people outside, very friendly. Especially this really nice lady, Mary. She welcomed me like I was a weary traveler or long lost family member. She told me I'd become a regular. And that's about all it took. I become a regular. I got to know all the bartenders, Mikey, Troy, Big Daddy. I got to know everyone's wives, girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends. I got to know the owner, Rob, who always teased me about needing a booster chair to see over the bar! Hahaha. Smart ass. I got to know all of the many other regulars. All of those people, and many, many more, became my friends. We drank a lot of 'Blasters,' a brilliant concoction of Red Bull and Jäegermeister. Conway's was a consistent part of my life for 15-16 years, I can't quite remember exactly. It really was like a family, full of happiness and fun along with the occasional conflict and drama. Somewhere along the line I stopped coming in as much. It was partly a function of me getting older, partly because it became a new, different, younger crowd at the bar. I realized I was too old to be chasing 25 year old girls! I'll never forget the moment I felt like a dirty old man when this beautiful young woman asked me how old I was. I was like a slow death, with my life flashing before my eyes! So my visits became less frequent and I lost touch with my old friends. And that was that. I was no longer a regular. It was a awesome phase of my life, but like they say, all good things must come to an end. So it was especially sweet to return yesterday after grabbing burritos next door, walking in and seeing my buddy Dave sitting there at the bar, smiling at me. Great guy. Looks exactly the same. And guess who I saw next? Mary! And then Mike, who always paid for drinks, super generous guy. And more people. It was kind of like a homecoming of sorts. And it hit me. Conway's isn't really a bar at all. More like a room full of good people, a happy place with beautiful, slightly fuzzy memories. That's Conway's.

I surprised my wife for our 10yr anniversary last night at Conway's! The bartenders made it such an Awesome experience! They really deserved credit for really going out of their way to make this happen. If you want to go have a GREAT time head over there. Lots of TV's, tables and a very enjoyable atmosphere!

Good pours on the cocktails. A simple, locals bar. The bartenders are solid, friendly and on point. Good spot for a couple of drinks.

From the rich, caramelized Crème Brûlée Bread Pudding topped with berries, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream, to the velvety Basque Cheesecake and indulgent Butter Toffee Cake finished with vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle--every bite is worth savoring. The staff was very warm and welcoming, though throughout the evening it definitely felt like they may have been short staffed and stretched a bit thin. Since we were headed to a movie after dinner, we decided to keep things light and share appetizers plus dessert. We tried the Fried Shishito Peppers, Veggie Potstickers, Grilled Broccolini, Rosemary Garlic Fries, Whipped Burrata, Garlic Noodles, Salmon Poke Tacos, and Lamb Chops. Overall, the food was decent but nothing especially memorable. The lamb chops were cooked nicely but could have used more seasoning, and the poke tacos were tasty but tiny -- literally about the size of my pinky for each taco. We were disappointed they had sold out of both the Crème Brûlée Bread Pudding and the Budino, which were the desserts we originally wanted to try. Thankfully, the Butter Toffee Cake completely saved dessert for us -- absolutely delicious and easily the highlight of the meal. Overall, a cute spot with good vibes for a girls night, but the food itself didn't quite live up to the hype for us.

Food is solid for a sports bar-burgers, nachos, wings (my fave), all hit. Drinks are good too with plenty of options. Service is friendly, just expect a little wait when it's busy. Rude server, not enough chairs…read more I went to Pitchers Sports Bar today to meet my son to watch the soccer game. We got there a few minutes early. There were a number of open tables but no chairs. Apparently some people had gotten there early and commandeered all the chairs. When the server came over to our table, I orders a beer and asked him if they had any more chairs. His reaction was one of disbelief, as if I was asking an unreasonable question. He said, "where would I be keeping all these chairs?" I said, "I don't know. Maybe you can tell me." He then walked away without taking my order. I had to chase him down and his attitude worsened. I asked him who he reports to and he said he reports to himself. He then told me I was about to make this day bad for everyone. I said I was just trying to order a beer and asked if you had more chairs and then you started giving me an attitude, and I don't understand why. Finally, he apologized and took my order. But this was really uncalled for. Firstly, they need to have more chairs Secondly, they should not allow people to take chairs from tables so that the rest of their patrons are standing up for three hours. Many of the people just had extra chairs that they were saving for I don't know who, but there were a lot of empty chairs The server could've told me that he was sorry that they were out of chairs, but a lot of people were saving them further could've asked people to give up their chairs that they weren't using. Instead, he tried to make me feel stupid for asking this question. It's my first time here and most likely my last. I'm really disappointed with the way I was treated here. The server was a middle-aged man with gray mohawk looking curly hair.

Valet parking is complimentary, and there isn't any self-parking. When I checked in with the hostess, she gave me the option of sitting in the front outdoor patio or the back patio. I chose the back, and I'm so glad I did because the view is absolutely beautiful. I also had my dog with me, and they were incredibly dog friendly. They brought her a dog bed and a surprisingly extensive dog menu with some really great options. We ordered: *Lobster Tacos : Three generously filled tacos served with salsa and guacamole. They were absolutely delicious and loaded with lobster, topped with fresh avocado. *Rancho Burger: Easily one of the best burgers I've had. It was cooked perfectly, and we added Swiss cheese. They even cut it in half for my friend and me to share. The fries were fantastic too, crispy and somewhere between steak fries and thin-cut fries. *Shepherd's Pie (Dog Menu) : The menu listed it with beef, but they accidentally brought out the chicken version. Since my dog is allergic to chicken, they immediately apologized, took it back, and made a fresh beef version. The customer service was excellent, and my dog absolutely devoured it. The portion was generous, and it looked fresh enough for a human to eat. The service was phenomenal from start to finish. Our food arrived in less than 20 minutes, the views were stunning, and the menu had so many tempting options that I'll definitely be back to try more. Overall, this was a fabulous lunch, and I highly recommend it.

Their food quality is also very good. Of the several times we've been, we've struggled with food temperature not being warm enough about half the time. Servers are kind, but can be inconsistent. Again I would say half of our visits we've felt forgotten. My biggest irritation was during our latest visit, in which families with children were seated next to us not once, but twice. This was disturbing because on the booth side of the table where my mom and I sat, we felt the movement of squirmy children from the table next to us. Highly recommend more attention to table selection by the host staff. Given the classiness of this place, I find it silly that I'd have to go out of my way to ask for hot food and to be seated only around adults. We will be taking The Pony Room out of our rotation for a while.
