This is my friend's all time favorite fast food drive thru place and honestly it slapped. The milkshake and burger really hit, only complaint were that the nuggets were rubbery, but nonetheless still good for fast food

Cookout in Downtown Birmingham was really good. Restaurant was clean and service was good. If you're looking greasy, flavored, delicious burgers this is a great spot. They're menu is large and they have all the basic comfort foods like hotdogs, quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, fries, onion rings, chicken nuggets, corn dogs etc .. it reminds me of a Sonic restaurant on wheels. They also have desserts (milkshakes here are delicious!) The only problem I would say is my burger came with too many onions.

Horrible Experience! We ordered 3 sandwiches, hush puppies, and Cajun fries everything was WRONG. I ordered The Cajun style double burger with jalapeños which is supposed to have chili and slaw neither was present! My husband ordered a double with grilled onions and several other toppings as shown on the receipt. We received it with mustard and onions only. Not grilled onions but fresh onions. The Cajun fries...no Cajun seasoning. Only the hush puppies were correct. This is terrible. Don't waste your time!

Here's our receipt from our visit today. As u can c, we got a LOT of food & only for $53.

What a GR8 burger & fries. The guy behind the counter was very nice & patient with us. Couldn't believe how cheap this was for such good food as well as the amount u get. We were at the Ponce De Leon location n Atlanta. Restaurant & restrooms were clean. HIGHLY recommend this place.

Undercooked double. But, for once, it had the correct toppings.

Consistently giving me, and charging for, the wrong size of sweet tea. The menu board at the drive thru list a LARGE and HUGE. I would like to have the large ( 20 oz) rather than the hugh (32 oz). If I order large, I'm given a huge. If I order a regular, I get a huge. If I order a small, I get a huge. If I say something, I'm told all the sweet teas are huge $2.99. If I ask for the large, they will give me the 20oz but not change the price. When I told them the board has large on it at $1.99, they just stare at me. Also, don't expect any sauces to be in the bag, or napkins, or straws, or even the right order. Always check before leaving the window. If something is missing, the staff will just look at you like you're crazy. IF they open the window, it may take a couple minutes to get a napkin. Check your sandwich before leaving the window. I usually order a regular hamburger with ketchup and onion. I've gotten a bunch of different combinations. Like the one the ticket was high but the sandwich was CHEESEBURGER with lettuce, mustard and pickle. Just learn to read. To be honest, the food is great. A couple times I've had overdone nuggets or o rings, but for the most part, it always taste great. Always busy in the drive thru and it moves slow. ( Probably everyone checking their orders at the window.) Seems to have a big turnover as well.

They didn't let me order through the window. I witnessed a lady hide from me. She dipped out and I was offended.

But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!

Absolutely delicious and crave worthy. The burger was juicy and flavorful everything I wanted. The bun was toasted to perfection. My husband got the regular hand cut fries and I got the sweet potato fries. Literally the best SP fries I've ever had they were crispy and perfect balance of salty sweet. Yum! I wish we had one in HSV guess I'll have to drive back just for the burgers lol. They also serve different styles of hotdogs and fried pies for dessert. They have a wide variety of specialty burgers, hot dogs, and sides, and I feel that I could try something new every time I come here. I chose to order the Vulcan hot dog, named after an infamous monument of Birmingham. I love how they have so many different types of hot dogs with varying toppings to make your order truly personalized. I chose the spicy option with jalapeños and it did not disappoint! Also, these are the best fries I have had in Birmingham if you are looking for a plant-based option here. When I ordered, I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome. She told me it would be right out, and my order was given to me within 5 minutes. Besides the great food, the ambience is the best part of this place! There is an upstairs area with additional seating, and the interior of the restaurant is covered with vintage, American decor. The walls and decorations really sell the All-American vibe associated with burgers and hot dogs. If you are looking for a new, local burger spot that feels like home this is a great option!

We had been saying we were gonna try it, but wasn't sure about it. I'm angry at myself for not going for this SOONER. I had the Joyland burger with fries, wifey had the egg, cheese, and bacon syrup infused biscuit with the chicken on a stick (Dipstick) with hot honey sauce. Everything was absolutely amazing. There was no "dragging, greasy" feeling afterwards which is important to us -- everything was fresh. The dipstick was as tender and delicious as could be. The burger is one of the best in Birmingham, if not THE best I've had. And the ECB biscuit was a 5/5 as well. We will be back. Service was fantastic as well as the colorful theme inside.

Now is as good of time as any. I liked the bold, vivid colors of the decor. It made me smile. The staff were....not friendly but not stand offish either. Kinda in the middle. We both felt a weird vibe out of the place. Almost an uncomfortableness that's hard to describe. The guy who took our orders was helpful though as we asked questions about the menu. We both ordered the crustburgers and curly fries. The fries were good but the burger wasn't to our liking. It was very crispy and tasteless. I've had smash burgers before (that's really all this is) and they were just really thin burgers. These were unique in that they were really crunchy pieces of....something. I would not order this again on a return visit, if there is one. The price was around $40 for both of us, another letdown. I don't mind spending more for good food. But this place just didn't live up to the hype for me. However, try them for yourself. I've heard breakfast is a winner.

Parking is primarily street parking in the area, but there is also a public parking deck nearby. I'm unsure what the current cost is for the deck, but it's worth knowing if you're visiting during a busier time. I ordered the fish tacos with black beans and chose the cheese grits as my second side. Everything tasted fresh and had lots of flavor. The real star of the meal, though, was the sweet potato cake. It was incredibly moist and delicious. Honestly, I could've eaten four of them without shame or hesitation. My colleagues ordered burgers and fries. They both really enjoyed their burgers, but neither cared much for the fries. They had also requested a couple additional items after the food arrived, but those items never made it to the table. The decor is bright and fun, though it didn't quite seem to match the style of food being served. Just my personal observation. They also have a robot that helps deliver the food alongside the servers, which felt a little unexpected for the casual atmosphere and southern comfort food vibe. They were fairly busy since it was lunchtime on a Friday, but the wait really wasn't bad at all. Would I go back? Yes. Was it my absolute favorite? No. But there were definitely things I enjoyed, especially that sweet potato cake that nearly made me consider ordering dessert first next time.

We ordered the hot chicken sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and both were packed with flavor. The slaw was light, crisp, and not overloaded with mayo, with just a slight peppery kick that made it incredibly tasty. The hot chicken sandwich itself wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, but it was finger-licking good -- juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfying down to the last crumb. We truly enjoyed every bite. The ambience with its bright green, purple and white colors added to the experience. The restaurant was lively and full of people, which is always a good sign. I also caught glimpses of other patrons' dishes, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked just as delicious as what we ordered. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. Staff members seemed genuinely happy to be there and kept things moving smoothly. The location is right in the heart of downtown Bhama, so parking is metered street parking, but the prices were reasonable and worth it for the quality and uniqueness of the food. Overall, this spot delivered on food, atmosphere, and service. Big thumbs up from me -- I'll definitely be back!
