I first encountered cookout about 3 years ago in Chesapeake, Va and I'm so glad they have finally come up here. The amount of food that you can get for a low price is amazing!! There are a bunch of different combinations you can choose from for your tray- choice of a main course and two sides. For a dollar more, you can switch out the soda for a milkshake, which come in a ton of flavors. Be prepared to wait. Second time going here. Really not worth the hype. Burgers are small and lack flavor. Kind of like going to a family cookout at someone home that buys the cheap frozen patties and then slaps cheap cheese on them. Go to sonic if you want a huge step up and no stomach ache. Very poor quality of drippy grease. Won't make this mistake again. Two times the charm. Cheddar bacon should have at least (real Cheddar and more then a half a piece of bacon). For my first visit at 11.30 at night it was a great experience. Selection is vast, I cant believe I've been driving past this place for over a year and haven't tried it. Quality well above pricing for this one. I had a grilled cajun chicken sandwich, which was very good. 4/5 for taste and size. fries were amazing, boardwalk quality. And sweet tea was better than most fast food places. Not your grandma's tea though. Side quesadilla was lacking, but hey..it's a cookout style restaurant, I wasnt expecting the best mexican food ever. While waiting, several people in line ahead of me were there because the staff failed to get their drive thru orders correct. Their other complaint was that the staff was just dumping the fries and onion rings into the bag over the other food. I only ordered a large fry. The staff dumped the fries in the bag upside down and on the napkins. They are not nearly as busy as Chic-fil-A and their service is way worse. And the large fry had like 25 fries for $2.10. I don't get it... This is not even close to a 5 star burger joint. The burgers are lackluster even by fast food standards and yet people seem to flock to this place in droves. I made the mistake of ordering onion rings which I was told would take more time to cook. What's funny is the onion rings they gave me were stale and obviously not fresh. I understand that this area is probably more health conscious than most so greasy burger places may be few and far between. Still, a proper burger just hits the spot every now and then. This place fell well short of expectations on all accounts. The food gets a 2 star rating and the unfriendly and unhelpful staff drops the overall down to 1. If you haven't tried this place before save yourself the disappointment. Sunken Well and Foode have better burgers in his area. Where has this place been all my life? The menu ain't for your quinoa and kale munching post modern gourmands. It's hamburgers and hush puppies, barbecue and corn dogs, milk shakes and onion rings. It's very Southern, veery charming and hugely tasty. I like cookout very much. After discovering this place the other day, I went back the next day. Cook Out is great. It's a bit of a trek for us but it's worth it...when you want fast food that's actually worthy of digesting. The burgers taste very similar to a burger you might grill at home, which to me is a great thing. No sad, frozen tasting, cat-meat like burgers here. Staff at night is rude and childish. The cashier I had leaned out the window, spitting all over for me, yelling at the cars in the parking lot to "Shut the fuck up." Quick, easy and pretty decent food. Have been a few times when we are passing through Fredericksburg. I've tried burgers, shakes and the quesadilla. Burgers and shakes are the best. Fries aren't really worth much, can pass on the hush puppies. The burgers and shakes are the best. Last time we went, I had the A1 burger - very good. I visit Cook Out quite often. Usually it's busy, but the prices are great. The food is good and service is okay. When I've been at night, I've had to wait a while, but my food is fresh. I really wish that they had butter. I don't like going in at night. Low prices, good food, and late hours attract people who are under the influence. Sometimes there are security guards outside by the door, but that doesn't instill complete peace of mind. read more

By far the worst cookout!! they consistently get your order incorrect and when you try to contact them to fix it, it's nearly impossible. They confirm your order just to not give you what you asked. They are argumentative when placing your order, often telling me what they can't do (when I've orderEd the exact same order at other locations). I'm rating this as the best fast food restaurant in VA right now. I have tried a lot of things there but keep coming back for the burgers. If I could buy a franchise I would strongly consider it. The prices are beyond reasonable. My only complaint is a minor one: all the styrofoam containers. That stuff is bad for you and the environment. I decided to get a bite to eat at Cookout today in lieu of McDonald's. I went through the drive-thru and had a very difficult time hearing the intercom. Also, the young lady working the drive-thru said they always have a hard time hearing the customer as well. The intercom needs to be upgraded with better mics/speakers. I have no trouble at all at other drive-thru joints. It's frustrating having to keep repeating yourself and unable to hear the workers. This will deter me from ordering via drive-thru until it's fixed. The food was delicious, but the frustrations ordering leaves me to give only 3 stars. When this problem is rectified, I will be happy to re-visit my review. read more

As a resident of Fredericksburg for a little over a year, I had been enticed by the aroma wafting from this place every time I drove by. Finally having the time and opportunity, we dropped by for a late lunch early Sunday afternoon. Even though there were about four folks in front of us, we got through the line quickly and the food was up in just a few minutes. The young lady who took our order was friendly and informative. They have a sink for washing your hands right between the counter and the drink station, which is nice considering that we had to clean our own table. There were a few open tables, but none were clean. My wife went to the counter to ask about getting someone to clean the tables but her request seemed to be ignored. After waiting a few minutes, she just went to the sink, grabbed some of the paper towels there, wet them, and wiped down our table. We both had hamburgers but to be honest, they were nothing spectacular. My wife quipped, "The aroma on the outside doesn't transfer to taste on the inside." She was right - the burgers were bland. We also had bland onion rings, Cole slaw, french fries, and hush puppies. We tried some of the chili and that was surprisingly good considering the lack of flavor in everything else. One thing of note, if you are used to portion sizes at places like Five Guys, you won't get that here. The portion sizes are significantly smaller than other places carrying similar fare. The price was reasonable and the reason I was able to give this place an 'OK" rating of 3. With two 'trays', an extra side of chili, and a chocolate shake, the total was just over $15. So we got what we paid for - bland tasting food in small portions in a place that really needs some staff that knows how to wipe down tables. read more

This particular location is the worst! Every time I go the employees are extremely rude and disrespectful. They throw food together in a haphazard manner. My orders are consistently incorrect and I've had to call corporate numerous times. The management at this location does not care or train the employees to act in a professional manner. There's hardly anything open past 1-2AM in Fredericksburg. For someone that regularly works a late shift, I *really* appreciate that this place is open so late allowing me and my friends a place to hangout. Usually come for milkshakes, and they are amazing.
