Toppings were fresh on burgers, but the quality of bun and cheese and pickles just brought down the overall burger a bit. Patty was OK. Better than your standard fast food. First time checking out a cook out, and for fast food. They were great. Service was fast, but just feel like they good do a little better on being attentive. The burgers are well done and have great flavor. They truly feel and taste like a home backyard grilled burger. The sides they offer are decent and everything combined is a great deal. I stopped at this location for dinner. I have been to other locations and liked their offerings. They have a limited fast food menu that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, and chicken sandwiches and quesadillas. Their hamburgers are very good. They have a meal deal that adds two sides and a soft drink. The french fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies are all good. Their prices are very reasonable and service is reasonably fast. If i could do less than 1 star I would. I visited the Fredericksburg location on Sunday April 17 at 11:50am. I placed my order for 2 burgers with sides and 2 shakes. My order number was 3282. After waiting 40 minutes I finally went up to the register because they employee was calling number 3288 and not a single part of my order was ready. When I went to ask if our food would be much longer the employee asked me what item I was waiting on and I explain I have not had a single item called out for my order. The employee stated the system was having issues and they would start on our food now. The second issue is the employee taking our order went to check on the Cheesecake item for a milk shake and said yes they have them after checking with another employee. After waiting 40 minutes to findout no of our food had been made and the employee stated "Oh we dont have the cheesecake item so what do you want." I have just moved into this area and this is my first experience at a Cookout, to say the least this is terrible customer service and I would never go back at least to this location. Cook Out can make a decent burger, I'll hand them that. They just can't take your order. They have gotten my order wrong at least 4 times. The people that work there are so rude. They act like it's my fault they keep getting my order wrong??? Their audio is so poor no one can possibly hear what they are saying at the menu/ordering place in the drive-through. Then the people who work there have routinely given a hard time when they get my order wrong, because of the audio problem and because they routinely hire people who can't speak clearly and whose grasp of the English language is very poor. I'm not hard to get along with, but these folks are completely incompetent when it comes to accurately taking my order, and then they want to dish out sarcasm and looks of disdain when they screw up the order. Love this place! Cheap food that actually tastes good. During this visit I just went for a milkshake. The cashier accidentally rang in the wrong flavor and they apologized and immediately made me the correct milkshake and even let me keep the one that was a mistake. They have over 40 flavors of shakes and they taste delicious! Even though there was a mistake, I appreciate how quickly they corrected it and how friendly they were. One employee even came over to my table a few minutes later to make sure I got my new shake. This level of customer service is great and it makes you want to visit again. The dining room was kept clean and I observed staff cleaning tables. Overall, everyone was very friendly, even other customers in the restaurant. Went to Cook Out with my husband yesterday for dinner. The food was good, as usual. So they earned 2 stars for that. But our bbq sandwich was half as thick as they were a few months ago. My main complaint is how dirty the restaurant was. There was thick dust everywhere! I even took a photo of one wall near the front. We sat near the drink dispenser and the floor underneath was disgusting! I was really surprised and upset because it made me very concerned about what condition the kitchen was in if it was this dirty where we could see. Beware of shakes ! Was shopping in the area on a hot day, and thought a milk shake would hit the spot. A friend had told me that Cook-Out made great shakes, so I gave it a try. Got a fruit based shake ( bananas, strawberry additions). This was at about 5 p.m. Woke up from sleep that night ( 3 a.m.) with horrible sickness ( stomach cramps, body aches, violent vomiting, non- stop G.I. symptoms, dizzy/disoriented ) to the point that I was up all night. Was still sick the next day, went to the urgent care clinic, and the next few days was still feeling bad, the clinic called back and said I had tested positive for LISTERIA. Reported to the Rappahannock Health dept., and the Corp. office of Cook-Out. Never again-felt terrible for over a week ! Have also had no follow up from health dept. or Cook-Out offices-shame on them. : ( read more

Had my first experience with Cook Out taking a road trip through North Carolina and I couldn't get enough of the shakes, so I was happy to find out that the closest one to DC was not in NC or even southern Va, but in Fredericksburg. So, the fiance and I made it a point to find an excuse to got to Fredericksburg. Well we got our excuse and convinced a couple buddies to join us after a day on the river. Every Cook Out we had been to was a drive-thru (which is how it usually is) but we were happy to find that it was a sit down, not to mention clean and ambient. Traditionally I get a shake and maybe a corn dog, but I was hungry, so I ended up getting a tray with Chicken strips, Onion Rings and a corn dog with a Cheer WIne, my fiance did a burger, hush puppies and corn dog with a milk shake. The strips were a bit dry which made me envious as to why I did not get a burger and the rings were not huge but I only got 4, so I should probably opt for a burger and fries next time. But the corn dog, oh the corn dog....mmmm... did I mention Corn dogs, I love them. But you know what's better, milk shakes... They make these bad boys thick so get a spoon for your early tastes, but come on, they put the good (and real) stuff like with any of their cobbler shakes, they will but a serving of cobbler in to that bad boy. This was the first time I ever been here. I came in and the restaurant was great looking. Even the restaurant had a sink that you could wash your hands. I think lt was ok. I enjoyed the the quick service with taking my order. But I hated reminding the store that I hadn't gotten my food several times. We've eaten at the Cook Out in Jacksonville NC so we knew the drill - the food is very good, charbroiled burgers but served "Cook-out" style - which is mustard, chili, slaw, onions and I think pickles - the way we used to order them when I was a kid in NC (or as we called it: "all the way") - the chili is exceptional but the slaw could be sweeter, it is fresh tasting and that's a good thing. The sides are very generous and super reasonable, most being .99 - the combos are the best value by a mile - two hot dogs "all the way" or "cookout style" for those among us not from NC, two sides (okra and onion rings in my case) and a bottomless drink - DRUM ROLL PLEASE: $5. Double Cheese or BBQ sandwich w/slaw, same price - in fact most things on the menu come as a combo for $5. Truly an amazing value, especially given the quality of the food. Since Cook-out opened about 2+ weeks ago it's been a mob scene to get inside and the drive-thru typically wraps around the building twice or three times but they have it well organized and even staff outside directing traffic. Walk-up window is your best and shortest wait; inside was busy but they move the line quickly, you go to your table and they call your number - so it works to keep people moving out of the way. A few suggestions for the powers to be at Cook-Out corporate: 1) SIGNAGE: PLEASE move the combo signage (or add a second one), that faces sideways, to instead face the approaching line - almost all the delays are when people get to the register and ONLY THEN do they finally see the combo sign and of course it's a lot to take in so the inefficiency of that is not good - if customers could read it as they approach they might be closer to ready to order - you literally cannot see it until you are AT the register - not good. 2) BBQ: I'm only going to say this once: the BBQ is excellent, moist and tasty BUT seriously "Texas Pete"??? Aren't you guys out of NC? Shame on you for putting Texas Pete on NC pork BBQ - I had my first BBQ sandwich there today and suffered from indigestion for two hours afterward (Texas Pete!) - NC BBQ is vinegar based with red peppers - yes, there is Eastern NC BBQ and Western NC BBQ (a little ketchup mixed in - yuk!) - let's not split hairs here, Eastern wins every time but could you not at least honor your NC roots and serve BBQ with NC authentic sauce? AT LEAST OFFER IT AS AN OPTION? And perhaps work on that slaw recipe just a little - it's kind of bland (it's okay but not NC style - but then again NC style Slaw is whatever restaurant you are at because it varies wildly.) 3) SPLENDA: PLEASE don't put the UNsweet tea in a pitcher on top of the sweet tea dispenser (hey, you have TWO huge sweet tea dispensers - why?) - I hate to break it to you but you are not REALLY in the south and ice tea, especially sweet ice tea consumption drops the further north you go - I prefer Splenda vs sugar but I suspect you will soon figure out that Virginian's and the transplanted Yankees here are different, especially Northern Virginians, when it comes to how they drink their tea. UNsweet is very popular here (then they put Splenda in it - gotta watch that waist line.) Speaking of Splenda - YOU DID NOT HAVE ANY - only that pink stuff. Don't get cheap on us Cook-out - we need our Splenda. Having whined enough, all in all, for fast food, this restaurant is very good and the prices are very fair (hope it stays like that) - you are kicking Mickey D's butt and all the rest too - so please just hone your slight deficiencies above and you will likely be a huge success here. I hope you put a Cook-out in Massaponax (exit 126) one day. AND MAYBE ADD A BREAKFAST MENU - I'm talking grits, sausage gravy, REAL biscuits: Better than Hardees? Even better than Popeyes? You'd have to open at 4am to handle the crowds!! One star off for the Texas Pete on BBQ. The BBQ is very good but you ruin it with Texas Pete - fix this please and you will earn my undying patronage and loyalty. Cook Out is brand new in the area and they are generally rare in Virginia. It's actually quite good if you look around the hype and look at the restaurant objectively. It's quite cheap right off the bat and in my opinion its burgers are better than Five Guys - they're a lot less greasy. Their food also doesn't feel processed like McDonalds or Burger King; it feels as though they were made fresh at the store. The food isn't up to the quality of proper sit-down restaurants but it comes very close. This is the fast food place you want to go grab a quick bite, that's cheap, but good quality and honest food. I only gave four stars because of the long lines. It's pretty much the Carl's Ice Cream of fast food right now - everyone hypes about it, you wait in line behind a bunch of people, and you could go to an arguably similar place and get your food faster. read more

Came here after a long day and it was packed at 11pm. Tried a double burger cheddar style and a double burger steak style. I was pretty surprised because the burgers weren't even close to being good. Everything was drenched in grease. The onion rings tasted like they came from a TV dinner. This place is slightly better than your bottom of the barrel fast food joints. The parking lot and way folks line up to order at a busy lunch time is horrendous! They REALLY need to fix this! I made the mistake of parking in the lot and the idiots in the drive through blocked me it, so after eating I had to wait for their slow drive through to move up to allow me to pull out. But the next car quickly pulled up, blocking me as well. It's far from a good system, they could learn from the traffic studies that ChickFilA has done to correct their lots. But, when it comes to the food - It was Very Good! Nicely done, but they're rushing because of how busy they are and this causes less than a perfect burger. We ordered several different burgers and dogs, just to split them all and try them. Each burger was not centered, the patty was shifted off one side, the condiments were very uneven and the toppings were too. An example - When I cut the "steak style" burger in half, the onions all ended up on one side. When I cut the one with bacon in half, the bacon all ended up on one side. More attention to the lobby is also needed, as the Hi-C Fruit Punch in the machine to the right was all water and stayed that way the entire time we were there. The ice in the machine to the left wasn't working. This restaurant has been open long enough now to have resolved all the "quirks" of opening a new place, so things like this can and should be caught through better QC from the management and Cook--Out's regional management. The fact that they only have two cashiers during lunch is not good either with a line out the door. Again... The food tasted nice, but could have been SOOOO much better with small execution changes in the preparation. I didn't have too high of expectations since this is a fast food place but it's a pretty good value for pretty decent fast food! My friend wanted to grab some food for a drive we were making so we stopped here (for the value). We split a cheddar style burger, okra, cheese fries, and a shake which was a ton of food and came out to be about $8. First off, fried okra is one of my favorite fried things and you'd be pretty hard pressed to find it in the Midwest so consider yourselves lucky that it exists here. Second, for fried food nothing felt too heavy or overly greasy which was a nice surprise. The shake was also super thick and comes in so many flavors that it's pretty hard to decide. I walk into this exchange understanding this is fast food, so I took my experience with a grain of salt. However, I've always heard people from the south mention it as "the best ever" so I expected it to compare to other famous regional chains like Whataburger and In-n-Out Burger, but was sorely disappointed. I don't blame this one restaurant, I'm sure it's relevant to the entire chain (at least the two I've stopped at). This restaurant was run efficiently and quickly, especially for as long as that drive thru line gets on certain days. Even so, I can't say I wasn't disappointed. Everything was just.. okay. I get the appeal because it's quite a bit of food for cheap if you play it right, even comparatively to other fast food restaurants. I would even put it a step above your normal fast food drive thrus (which I avoid) but not much higher. If you're from out of town, heard of Cookout as an In-N-Out tier burger joint, I would say I'm not sure I place it that high up. I'd prefer Five Guys or Shake Shack personally. read more

Lived in NC for over 5 years - went ONCE. Now that we live in Stafford, I come here every time friends come by. It's not the quality, it's the price. When my friends raved about it, i thought, oh a great burger joint! But, no, it's not that it's a great burger joint, but it is how cheap they are. Son got the chicken nuggets, which are pretty good, all white meat. If you're looking for an affordable place to eat in the Fredericksburg area, this place is pretty good.
