The only downside to this location is that the site is very tight and difficult to negotiate. I mean, it's a staple North Carolina fast food spot-- what's not to love? Literally this is a place where an order of chicken nuggets is considered a side to your burger. Show me another spot that has such interesting rules? Hush puppies are standard and you are probably not pulling away without at least a cheerwine or a shake. I definitely lean towards the shake. I lean towards peach cobbler, chocolate peanut butter, and I did recently really enjoy their seasonal eggnog shake. When I went there it was first understaffed. It took about 5 minutes for me to order since there was not a lot of people there, when we pull up to the window there is a worker sitting on the floor. One of the workers who I give props to was trying his absolute hardest to get all the orders done while was was sitting on the floor and the other was wandering around, the bald one with a tattoo is fine. Order from the Tray menu and you'll get a combo that includes an entree, two sides and a beverage for under $10. We chose one of their 40 options for a shake you must eat with a spoon as our beverage and were not disappointed. My spicy chicken (sandwich) could have been a little thicker, but was tasty. The falls of neuse location has serious problems. Not only do the microphones absolutely suck, but they are at least 10 feet away and both me and the employee had to repeat ourselves several times to even understand any part of what we said. I ordered a big double everything on it (single), hot dog yellow mustard (single) and a vanilla milkshake and when i tried to confirm he got all that, he said yes sir to all three things. Turns out all he heard was "big double everything on it and mustard" cause that's all i got. I think he either thought he heard everything or just gave up. If he did, I don't blame him, it must be miserable having to go through that social nightmare from hell every night hundreds of times. I would have had to scream to be heard, but I can't bring myself to do that cause that would be rude. Better yet I noticed the other drive through lane goes up to the window on the passenger side. At the bare minimum 2 things need to be done 1. Upgrade those terrible speakers. stop being greedy and cheap, thats pocket change for this business. 2. Normally when I come to this location the cashiers are friendly or at the very least they acknowledge you once at the window. However, this go round the dude at the window with the dreads was horrible. Not once did he even look my way to get my card or to hand me my food. Just stuck it out the window. One of my coworkers who lived in Virginia told me I had to come here. We did not know it was a not a place you could go inside and eat (it is a double drive through a la Rally's). We came here near lunch so it was busy and the menu is so extensive we felt pressure to order so we were not holding up the line. I got a cheeseburger. It was good. Would have been better if they got the condiments I requested correct and put mustard on it instead of ketchup. My husband got the BBQ plate and said he would not get it again. He shared fries with me and they were greasy, limp, salty messes. He said the hush puppies were ok. We got chicken nuggets for the kidlet and she was not a fan. I tried one and they reminded me of the nuggets you got in elementary school. We also got shakes. My husband got mint chocolate chip. But the chips were not chips (think the kind you use in cookies) but more thing chunks? shaved? pieces of chocolate that could not be sucked through the straw so at the end he had a lot of chips that were in the bottom. This location seems to have the best customer service of the Raleigh locations. At this location, you'll find a mix of different levels and theories of customer service. One one end, you have the calm and patient sweet Haitian lady from Florida and on the other, you have a really impatient and hard to understand ghetto chick who is a general pain to deal with. Service is typically fast, even on weekends. I do not recommend going to this location when it's busy because you have to put yourself in harm's way and the risk is not worth it for cheap burgers. If you're from out of town, keep in mind this is extremely cheap food that rivals most fast food chains. Their beef and toppings seem to be much higher quality for a much lower price. I'm not sure how their corporate structure and sourcing allows for it, but they've accomplished it. The bad part about this business is the traffic nightmare it causes on Falls of Neuse. Raleigh and NCDOT have poorly engineered roadways; they're very deficient and that's not a secret. The entrance/exit to Cook Out is steep which causes vehicles to slowly enter/exit which makes for dangerous travel on Falls of Neuse, a 45 mph zone. Additionally, standing cars in the southbound travel lanes and northbound in the mult-use (turning/suicide) lane often do not look before darting into traffic. read more

I got a cheddar (grilled) chicken sandwich which comes with bacon, cheddar and onions. The good: the chicken and the bacon were both good. The bun was ok and onions were fair. The bad: The "cheddar" wasn't very tasty, not horrible tasting - it just didn't have a lot of flavor and tasted like fake nacho sauce. I also got a banana peanut butter shake that I asked them to make with chocolate. It wasn't very chocolatey and the only flavor that really stood out was the chunks of banana (most of which couldn't make it thru the straw). Additionally, I came thru the left side drive-thru. The person seemed to have difficulty hearing me, and didn't greet or take my order until I had waited for about 2 minutes. Flavorful, cheap, and quick! We have visited this Cook Out location numerous times over the years and always receive tasty (not so healthy) food quickly without clearing out our pocket books. Our favorite items to order are the cookout trays (my favorite is the chicken strip tray). They are customizable, large, and affordable. Plus you can add on a milkshake for a small additional fee! The milkshakes are so delicious and are also customizable. I like mixing two flavors together or getting the Oreo Mint. I do not want to jinx myself, but we have yet to get an item that we did not like. To meet preferences for a larger group, I would prefer Cook Out to offer a few salads or even a side salad. They do offer grilled chicken options. The portions are large so I never leave hungry and often cannot finish my meal. The double drive thrus help to make the line move quickly. If you open one of these in MoCo Maryland you will be able to retire in 5-7 years as the place will be packed from open to close. I always get the Cook Out Tray. A main course two sides and a soda for $5. Are you kidding me. A delicious hamburger with a choice of two sides which include choices of Bacon Wraps Chicken wraps quesadilla or a number of other side choices and you get two sides. They have BBQ as well as the main course of hot dogs and you can substitute a amazing shake for our soda for only a $1 more. I am a person who likes good portions when they get fast food, and Cook Out delivers on this like of mine. read more

Sketchy but good I walk up to my local cookout on a Saturday evening. The smell of juicy burgers and fresh fried fries fills the air around the small brick building. I look at the menu in awe of how many delicious milkshake flavors they have. They also have many food choices, so you can get just about anything you want when it comes to burgers, hotdogs, chicken, quesadilla and lots of sides to choose from as well. I make my way up to the little sliding window. I order a tray with a burger and a side of double seasoned fries and also a large Cheerwine to drink. The food didn't take that long to come out. Since it was my first time eating there, I was surprised that it just came in a simple take-out box. The burger was cooked to perfection and was very juicy which made it even better. I chose "fast food" as the category for Cook-out, but don't let that fool you into thinking this is another Wendy's or McDonald's. Cook-out is what fast food wants to be when it grows up. Their burgers, chicken, hot dogs, and milkshakes are some of the best you'll find anywhere. The ingredients are fresh, prepared quickly and expertly, and the meats are grilled to perfection. My personal favorite is the cajun chicken tray (Cook-out's "combo") - a grilled, cajun-seasoned chicken breast sandwich, two sides and a drink for just over $4.50, tax included. You simply cannot beat that...it almost costs more to make it yourself, especially when you consider that chicken nuggets and corn dogs are among the available sides. This location is usually busy during the day, but not swamped, with one or two cars in each of the dual drive-through lanes. I have noticed that this one seems to be a bit slower than some of the others nearby, but the difference usually isn't noticeable unless you're really in a big hurry. Because of the way the driveway is positioned, cars that leave the drive-through window can only stack about 2 deep waiting to turn onto Falls of the Neuse - otherwise, they're blocking the service window. I've seen a time when there were two cars in each lane, but never a time that they reached back past the window. Word to the wise: if you do order a tray, substitute one of Cook-out's 36 flavors of milkshake for the soda...you'll be glad you did. read more
