Cookout has definitely lived up to the hype! While a fast food restaurant, it's always a pleasure to come back and try something new, given their ridiculous number of milk shake flavors. The cookout trays allow for super flexible ordering options. Where else can you get a burger, with two corn dogs as sides? Overall, this is a great value. I placed my order via Drive thru and noticed my sandwich didn't have any tomatoes per my request when I ordered. The manager, Terry, was very rude and disrespectful, as he was insisting that I "don't get anything free" and the cashier "charge her for that tomatoe". I didn't have an issue with paying for the topping, but the way in which Terry behaved was unacceptable, especially to be a manager. He was yelling his commands to the cashier from somewhere in the back but was extremely loud to the point I was able to hear him across the drive thru window while sitting in my car. The cashier who handled my transaction was very patient with me from the beginning as I was experiencing technical difficulties with my payment method. The drive thru service is consistently abysmal. We sat for twenty minutes tonight waiting for our order and they still got it wrong. Never again. I went for the first time to a Cook Out just yesterday -- in Raleigh, NC. My friend and I just got milkshakes . . . and they were SO FREAKING GOOD that I just had to try one the very next day at a Cook Out here in Richmond. I got the exact same milkshake in each city, but . . . Night and day, people. My Mint Chocolate Chip shake from the Raleigh Cook Out was that classic minty green color, creamy as all get out -- and swimming in chocolate shavings / chips. It took me almost an hour to eat it all, it was so rich and delicious. In contrast, the Richmond Mint Chocolate Chip milkshake was nearly . . . disgusting. The color was a dirty green. There was no creaminess at all; the entire thing tasted as though it were made with ice milk or even just water. There was a mint flavor, paired with some vague hint of chocolate flavor, BUT NOT A SINGLE CHOCOLATE CHIP in the entire cup. I don't know if the West Broad Cook Out is being run by a con artist, or the Raleigh one is being run by a saint. But I do know that the West Broad Cook Out in Richmond isn't worth your dime or your time. read more

By far the worst service I have ever had in my entire life. After the girl at the takeout counter started to take order she stopped me mid-sentence and told me to wait a second. After several minutes she came back to get our order and told me a total of $7.45, when I got to the window to pay somehow my total had changed to $11.55 and when I asked for an explanation she could not give me one I repeated back the prices that were on the board and she continued to argue with me that I was wrong. Meanwhile as she was passing us our drinks and counting our change she was talking to her friend that walked up to the drive thru next to my car. I regret not getting this employees name because she had by far the worst customer service skills I have ever seen. I have eaten at numerous cook-out restaurants and everytime I go to Cook Out on Gate City Blvd. (formerly High Point Road) in Greensboro, NC the order is always messed up. Every time I say I am not going back I wait months later try it again and the same response. I don' understand what's so hard about getting my order correct. Most of the time I order chicken strips, asked them not to cook them hard and what do they do the opposite. Not to mention they was the size of a kids meal strips. I just give up going to Cook Out on Gate City Blvd. I changed the order to a double cheeseburger and had to pay another $1.60 that I didn't understand either. Very unhappy. read more

The CookOut Restaurant has been a great addition to the Richmond area.I'm not a huge fast food fan,If I have the urge to eat fast food the CookOut Restaurant is what I usually eat.This is probably the best deal for your money as far as combo meals goes in Richmond.For around $5.50 you can get a BBQ,Chicken,Cheeseburger or Hot dog combo.A combo comes with more than just your traditional fries or onion rings .You can swamp out fries or onion rings for corn dogs, hush puppies, or quesadilla to name a few things.Your meal also comes with a drink.The cheerwine soda is pretty tasty.The food is really good for the price you pay.The CookOut has a huge selection on the menu with cheap prices.The milkshakes are delicious,you can mix and match multiple flavors.The cheesecake comes with any topping you want,which is pretty good.I was surprised a fast food restaurant had good cheesecake.The CookOut is drive thru only.There is a ordering window and a couple of benches outside to eat your food.At times, the drive thru lines can become backed up depending on which time you go and weekends.Once you get to the window the service is pretty fast!If you want bang for your bucks, the CookOut Restaurant is a good food destination. read more

If you are a junk food junkie, I guess this place is OK. I visited the Midlothian Tpk. location yesterday. Bought a chilli dog, and was on my way out, feeling fine. As I approacned the door, I suddendly slipped on the rug which was buckled from the rain. There were no caution signs whatsoever. Also nothing heavy to flatten down the rug. So, I tripped and went head first towards the door, and customers coming in surrounded me and tried to help. I was on the floor, cut and bruised and bleeding a good 15 minutes or more before a manager came. He just looked and walked away. Said not one word. The customers started screaming for management, and another manager came. Said nothing, but gave me a form to fill out. Someone called an ambulance Those same customers stayed with me the whole time. God bless each and every one of them. I am sore, bruised, and with cuts today. but mainly very, very sore. I am 68 years old, & just had surgery recently on my right side which is the one that I landed on. I was, and AM, appalled and shocked at management's total INDIFFERENCE !!! At least I do have 5(FIVE) witnesses who are ready and willing to help !. You could not pay me to return to this place. I value my health, even if they DO NOT !!!!!! read more

I went thru the drive thru at the new Midlothian Turnpike store in Richmond VA. Although there were 4 cars ahead of me in each of the double drive thru lanes, I was through the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. I got the double burger combo w/ cheddar cheese. The burger was better than I could have cooked myself on my grill. The thick cut fries were cooked to perfection-you could taste potato instead of whatever oil they were cooked in like at _______ King. The slaw was fresh and crispy-not watery at all. And the banana shake I upgraded to-Nirvana!! Fresh, little bits of banana. I am smitten! I am going to systematically eat my way through the menu and try everything. I visited this establishment today, February 11th, 2016 at around 5:55PM. While they usually exhibit good service, the African American woman who took my order was incredibly rude (I'd mention her by name if I knew it). As I've worked in fast food and retail, I make it a point to be very polite to those doing me a service, so it's rare that I receive an attitude in these situations. I gave her my order, doing my best to speak loudly and enunciate clearly because it eliminates most confusion, "I'd like a cheeseburger with everything on it except pickles and lettuce. Double up on fries, and a sweet iced tea please". I was expecting the usual, "Will that be all?" and instead received a lengthy lecture about how I needed to specify from the beginning that I'd like a tray. There were several cars behind me and man was she getting into it. If I wasn't so hungry, I would've felt inclined to give her a piece of my mind, such as "Well maybe you should have waited until I was finished with my pretty basic order before entering everything in, I would've been happy to repeat it if you needed it repeated". Instead I kept quiet. After she was done ranting at me, she asked me to repeat my order. As I've mentioned before, I work in retail and have worked in fast food. I hate the saying the customer is always right, but you keep your cool even if they're clearly wrong. If my manager heard me talk to a customer like that, I'm sure I would've been reprimanded severely, if not fired. I'm sorry it took her an extra moment of her time to enter my order in correctly, but she wasted a lot more time getting mad at me. When I treat you respectfully and try to be polite, I don't want or need to be talked down to like I'm a child or like I just hit you in the face. Ridiculous. read more

Just tried out the Cookout because of a recommendation from my brother & the BBQ plate was excellent & price was very reasonable. The only reason I didn't give 5 star rating is because the sign did not indicate this was a drive thru restaurant. When I mentioned this to the cashier, he agreed because a number of people have complained about trying to find a place to park & then find you don't go inside. A real pain. For those who are new to Cookout, I'm sure you will think it's great. For those of us who have experienced Cookout long before they began to branch out, we are becoming slowly disappointed. They are not consistently great from location to location. They have downsized the condiments in the milkshakes which has left me and others discouraged. Lets just say a milkshake at Cookout used to be worth the calories. I would go out of my way to get one. My family and I have driven an hour just to have dinner at Cookout. But not anymore. I tried this place for the first time today. For under $6 I got a small pulled pork sandwich that came with coleslaw on it, side of coleslaw, hush puppies and a large sweet tea. Normally I prefer my BBQ without slaw but I ate it anyway. It was flavorful but small. The hush puppies were fresh and tasted good. I would definitely go back but would order two sandwiches minus the slaw on top. Anyway the prices are definitely cheap and the food tastes good. read more

This place never ceases to amaze me with their level of shittiness. This Cookout reminds me of an ex-boyfriend: they're awful and not good for you, you know you shouldn't go back to them, but you break down in desperation and cave. That's exactly what happened to me, tonight. I've sworn off this Cookout location, due to its terrible quality of food, and the rudeness of their staff. But tonight, after getting off of work after 12 hours, I was starving, and figured I would just grab something small to hold me over. I should have gone LITERALLY anywhere else. I pull into the drive thru, endure the screeching and static of the intercom, order my ranch wrap (that's right, ONE RANCH WRAP- this isn't rocket science), and pull to the service window. The window opens and I am greeted by a straight face, that looks less than pleased to see me. I smile anyways and ask how the lady is doing. "One ninety-eight" Oh, you feel $1.98? Fucking rude as always. Anyways, I say thank you, take the bag that is thrust at me, and drive on my way. I pull the wrap out, and attempt to pick it up. As I do this, I notice ITS NOT WRAPPED AT ALL. What I have in my hand is a "chicken tender" slightly bigger than a Buffalo Wild Wings boneless wing, sitting in a tortilla with half a head of lettuce, a squirt of ranch, and a few shreds of cheese. WTF? I paid two dollars for this???? If I wasn't so hungry, I would have taken a picture so I could show you guys- it was that bad, to make a person want to take a picture of it and waste 10 minutes of my night writing a review.
