This was a guilty late night snack. It's fast junk food. And it's cheap. The flavors are dull, and it doesn't taste like real food. But at midnight, it's enough to trick you into being satisfied. And it does that relatively well. Though I still found the flavors dull overall. The hot dog and hamburger basically tasted the same. All generic.

The line at 12:30 AM was disgustingly long but I understand the random hungry cravings in the middle of the night. Overall, it was worth the wait as the food was pretty good. I just got a regular cheeseburger and it was a good late night fast food choice. Definitely better than the burgers at McDonald's and I wish there was a Cook Out where I was. My friends got fries and it tasted great with the Cook Out sauce. Even though the fries were a bit soggy by the time I had it, flavor was solid and enjoyable. I definitely think it's better than the Chick-fil-A sauce. I'm sure Cook Out can be a hit or miss as with all fast food chains, but this first experience was definitely a hit.

It was late...they were open...so we went. I don't usually eat Cookout, but I was starving and had a headache. The line as long and slow. When we got to the order box, the order taker sounded tired and had no enthusiasm whatsoever. Definitely wasn't Chick-fil-a, but I ordered a Junior tray with chicken strips and double onion rings. We also got a double burger with chicken nuggets and hushpuppies. I was shocked, but our food was fresh and delicious. I don't know if it's because I was starving or not, but I truly enjoyed it. I will go back if ever in the same situation. Hopefully it will be good then too.

I know they have a million flavors, but vanilla is just so classic and fantastic.

I just love Cook Out's food, and it's dangerous how close this location is to me. One thing that does keep me at bay unless I have a really serious craving is the line. Cook Out is NOT fast food. Last time I visited, the line took at least half an hour. At least. I love their milkshakes, especially the orange push up, Oreo, and vanilla. I always upgrade to a shake with my tray. For the tray, I'm all about their bacon cheese dogs, white cheddar curds, and fries. I recently introduced my mom to their food too. She ordered the chicken fingers and chicken nuggets in her tray and labeled them as better than Chic Fil A. Customer service isn't the most pleasant, and it's a good idea to double check your bag before pulling away, but neither of those are deterrents for me. Their food is just too addicting.

Normally don't have any issues however the last two times I've gone the "chicken strips" have been chicken nuggets. They used to be huge, now it's like half the portion.

I don't know how anyone can hate on a cookout tray. It's like $7 for a greezy burger, cheese curds, onion rings, and a shake. They have peach cobbler milkshakes myguys! Sure, everyone working there is prediabetic, so am I. Sure they hand you your food in a half melted styrofoam box without a plastic bag. Who gives a sh*t!? It's cheap, fast, and toisty AF.

I heard everyone talking about this drive-thru/take-out restaurant, unfortunately the food was not nearly as good as it was hyped-up to be. After the 40 minute wait I was rewarded with a greasy, tasteless hamburger . I'm not into bashing restaurants but i think the more a person travels the more they learn to appreciate taste and quality. read more

I really hate writing this review because I pride myself on eating at fast food restaurants so very rarely, if ever. I went here a few times to get a cheerwine float after crazy hangover time, THEY ARE AMAZING. Then, I ate one of their hamburgers- I know they use crappy meat etc. but this place is a thousand times better than Burger Bach. At least the kind of burger I am looking for. I am sad about it too, I love to contribute to local/organic food places but sometimes you just cant help but to give credit where credit it due. read more

My coworkers and I were in town for some training and I had heard from a buddy back home about this place. It is amazing for the price. I have gone every day for lunch for the past three days. I got the BBQ sandwich, hushpuppies, and fries. All that cost $4.74. And the food is very good in my opinion. BBQ has just the right about of cole slaw and texas pete. The only thing I have a gripe about is the cashier at the walk-up window. She was EXTREMELY rude every time we went there. My friend even tried to ask her a question one afternoon and she put her hand in his face, said "I'm busy" and walked away. She came back about 1 minute later, no apology. That's my only negative. read more

This is not fast food this is slow food!!! The lines were rediculous, the wait time was crazy stupid, couldn't hear the girl talk over the intercom because it sounded like there was a party going on in the background..and also she wasn't the friendliest person..and to top it all off the boxes that you get your food in are smaller!!! I'd rather them up the price a little more then be surprised at a smaller portion that might not even fill me up! I guess I won't be going back! O, and I asked for Cola, not Dr. Pepper. read more

I have been eating at cook out for years, Starting in Durham NC. I was so excited when they came closer and opened locations in Farmville and Richmond. I have never had a bad experience at any cook out with the exception of this one. Here I have had several. In the summer, there has been seeds in my watermelon shakes. In the fall my food was cold. The lines always move slow. The employees aren't friendly. Today a waited 15-20 minutes to get to menu board only to be told it was cash only. No apologies. No signs letting me know not to wait. I wasted almost my entire lunch break. Obviously I should have went to the location on Quiocassin Rd. I won't be visiting this location again even though it is the most convenient one for me. read more

After one visit, I am a CookOut fan! They offer great tasting burgers (way better than other fast food options) and they are a good price! What else could you want? A milkshake! And, they offer tons of flavors! I highly recommend the peanut butter shake...OMG! read more

The food here isn't that good. I was expecting more and with a name like cookout the food should taste like it was made at a cook out but doesn't. I ended up throwing my food away- it was a waste.. Anyway, the banana pudding milk shake is so good. It's the only reason I would go again! I just won't buy any food. read more

This place has gone down hill so quickly! I stopped in on my way to DC, and had the unfortunate experience to eat here. The staff is rude, the food is tasteless and greasy, and the restaurant was fairly dirty. I'm surprised they haven't been called up by the health department. I wouldn't waste my time here and I certainly wouldn't spend my money here. read more

We have been coming to this particular cookout for about 5 years now and overall the food is hot delicious and quick; the portions are really good size and the milkshakes are amazing they don't even charge extra when you ask for extra toppings in your milkshake does it get any better than that? read more

You get what you pay for, Cheap food. The food is definitely not good, just it's open late and if you been out all night, I can see this place being an alternative to mickey d's. Tasted the burgers, hotdogs, and hush puppies, didn't get to taste the delicious shakes the reviews talk about though. Ultimately, only worth going to if you got the late night munchies. read more

It's too bad. We love their milkshakes when they get them correct but multiple times in a row they leave something out. How hard is it to remember to add Heath bar to a chocolate shake?!? The line is always long enough that by the time the mistake is realized it would take a good half an hour just to get it fixed. Very frustrating. read more

I went to the cookout in north carolina couldnt find it on here but anyway it is amazing!!! Its open until ridiculous hours of the night which is pretty awesome when you get that late night urge for a burger or hot dog with all the toppings! The milkshakes are pretty darn good too! There are sooooo many flavors but I'm partial to mint chocolate chip! :) The food good for the price! Me and 3 of my girlfriends went over there and got a large order of fries, 4 milkshakes, and 4 bacon cheddar hotdogs and it all came out to be around 20 bucks (+/- some) which came out as roughly 5 bucks a person! Good by me! read more

OMG, I so love this place! It's a great spot for a good cheap meal. We are in Richmond 1-3 times a year for basketball tournaments, and this is the perfect spot to get a quick bite to eat between games or just grab dinner when you don't want to sit in a restaurant. I had a small burger and hush puppies and I loved both. The food isn't super amazing, but it's pretty darn good, and the price makes it that much better. I will be visiting every time I come to Richmond. read more

I went here a lot for lunch, but I won't be going back. Lines are slow, orders are constantly getting messed up and the overall quality of the food has gone way down hill from where it was. Got a snickers milkshake and the thing was mixed with some sort of cherry flavored crap in it, and I HATE cherry's. read more

It's a drive-through hamburger joint. I don't expect gourmet-quality food, I expect a hot burger and fries with a good shake. CookOut does it well and has a good taste for a low-priced burger, and they're perfect for that late-night craving. read more

While I rarely choose fast food, CookOut's milkshakes are a special treat. They come in 30 or 40 flavors but I always order cappucino. The only time I got a sandwich the grilled chicken & bacon was pretty good. You could tell it was not extruded goo. The bun was nothing special but it was what could be expected for such a reasonable price. I gave CookOut 3 stars which is a high number for a fast food chain. McDonalds doesn't even earn a rating from me. read more

This is the best place for a fast food option. The food is delicious and fresh, and you don't wait long. The staff is friendly as well. The only thing I'm not a fan of is there's no real place to sit and eat, even outside. There was a old couch some kids were chilling on in the parking lot which is a bit odd. But otherwise, I'd definitely recommend it and come back. read more

Fast service & milkshakes are bomb. It's a drive in or walk-up-to-order. Gets pretty busy and they're open until 4am! (Great post party food). Chicken tenders are GREAT & so are milkshakes !! So thick & creamy. Other food choices are basic- nothing too special. It's literally what they write on the menu that you get on your sandwich or wraps. read more

Oh how I have missed you Cookout! This was my go-to late night spot when I lived in NC. This location was great for us. Came here a bit before noon and pulled into the passenger side window so no wait whatsoever. The order taker was patient with us as we selected our meals (it took me some time to spot my favorites again). At the window payment and food delivery were prompt - all done within a few minutes. It tasted delicious and just as I remembered! I highly recommend it. read more

Best fast food on the east coast! I've never been out west to an in-n-out, but I can't imagine it is any better. The only thing they could work on is their consistency with the quesadillas. I go to this place at least one else a week. Use the right drive thru line it's faster. read more

Food prices? Very reasonable; if you discount the "you get what you pay for" idea. Atmosphere: clean and bright. Milkshakes are excellent . . . BUT, burgers are overcooked and dry and have little flavor. The onion rings are crisp, but have zero taste of anything, including onion. read more

I LOVE CookOut! Nothing better than cheap, tasty food, with fast service. I recommend trying the burgers "cheddar style". I love the tea, sweet and strong. The only thing I'm not into are the shakes....too thick for me. Best discovery I've made in Richmond! read more

I went to Cookout with a group of friends and at the end of the day i ended up feeling horrid. I had a horribly sick stomach and a headache to match, I am not sure if the headache was caused by with food, but I am pretty sure the sick stomach was caused by the food. read more

If you eat here pay only in cash. I checked my credit card statement a few days after catching a quick lunch here and found that I had been charged more than my receipt stated. I talked with a coworker the next day and found out the same thing happened to him too. BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

I'm vegetarian so I haven't tried any of the meals, aside from their Cajun fries and cheese quesadilla but both are delicious. And their selection of milkshakes and cheerwine float alone is enough to give this place 5 stars. I went to visit this location Saturday, March 28th around 2:30AM and our cashier, Nadia E. was awesome! The customers in front of us were complete morons (I am genuinely embarrassed to know people like that exist) and she was very patient and professional dealing with their idiotic demands and all around dumb-ass-ery. I was also accidentally given a chicken quesadilla and Nadia made sure that I got the correct quesadilla in a quick manner. So kudos to Nadia for being a great employee and giving great customer service! Seriously Cook Out, if you read this, put that lady on a pedestal... She deserves it! read more

Friends and I got super hungry late one night, hence CookOut run! In all my years in Richmond, I can now say it's sad that I haven't had it until now. I got a tray of a burger, corn dog, french fries, and a chocolate milkshake. The burger is probably the best fast food burger I've had! The french french fries, not so much since there was no seasoning and not crispy at all. The milkshake was legit & super thick - so glad they gave me a spoon! Now I know where to eat for those late night burger cravings! read more

Cookout is a bargain for your buck. This Broad Street location does not offer inside seating, making drive-thru lines longer than other cookouts I have visited. The burgers and pulled BBQ are pretty bomb. Chicken wraps make for a tasty second side to go with fries, all in a box for under $6! Cookout is a main contender for best milkshakes vs other fast-creamery competitors. read more

The bread pudding was definitely the best one we tried and really enjoyable. However, the chocolate peanut butter pie was a big disappointment. It was extremely hard and cold (not pie texture), the peanut butter wasn't creamy at all, and it honestly tasted more like a protein bar loaded with sugar. The crust also tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while--disappointing. Overall, we still enjoyed our visit and many of the dishes were great, but the dessert experience could definitely be improved.

Crafted is my neighbor, and I have visited 45 times over the years. If I turn to my right as I type…read morethis, I will quite literally see their lovely covered patio space. As such, it doesn't exactly feel great to be downgrading my review, but my previous sentiments aren't necessarily accurate anymore. My visits have dropped off in recent months, and it seems like the restaurant itself is dropping off, too, if you just read some of their latest reviews or stop in. I know they had a shift in their ownership, and it appears to be reflecting poorly on the restaurant. I'm not a big craft beer drinker anymore, but it turns out that doesn't matter, as Crafted is no longer a craft beer spot (see the picture I posted today for their offerings). I used to looooove traipsing over there to try their rotating draft list with some top-tier brands on it. This past weekend, I had a beer-loving friend in town from another state, so we stopped in on Thursday night. The bar area was pretty empty around 7 pm. I was embarrassed that I wasted his time, as they just serve domestics and the most basic of local pours these days. When I talked to the bartender about it, he seemed fairly nonchalant and informed me that Crafted can mean more than beer, such as craft food and craft cocktails. So let's talk about the craft cocktail I ordered. I selected the espresso martini. I love a good espresso martini. Crafted managed to serve me the worst one I genuinely think I've ever consumed. It was weirdly frigid, crunchy, and looked like it was curdling upon arrival. I don't know how they managed it, but I would highly recommend not ordering one of those. I've ordered quite a bit from their food menu over the years. I didn't order any food on our latest trip to see if it fits the "craft" label, but I've been within the past few months for dinner and it was just okay. Nothing extraordinary. I know they're impacted by inflation so I won't comment on the drastic price increases I've seen beyond saying they have been pretty steep jumps for decreasing quality. At this point in time, unless they have a major revamp, I don't see a reason to return. I'd rather spend my money on an experience I know is going to be better and my money will be appreciated, such as at my other neighbors, Acacia and Shagbark.

It was packed with pulled pork and was plentiful and filling. The service: Great and kind service from Mave (I believe that is her name but I'm not entirely sure). It was fresh made and included a tasty chili sauce. Thai basil and various noodle dishes were also eaten. Portions were generous and take out boxes left with us. My only tip is that you think hard before deciding to eat on the patios if it's cold and windy, the umbrellas will attempt to fly away. It can also get chili on a brisk day. No parking lot but plenty of street parking.

I love the Cookout in Mt. Airy, NC, but this restaurant is TRASHY. The staff is rude and act like they would love to be anywhere else but work. The staff is lazy. At any given time there are groups of 2 to 3 employees standing around on phones, talking to each other. Customers are a nuisance. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT.
