I contacted Cool-It yesterday as I have used him in the past and have always found Vixiene (owner) to be available and professional. He came out today due to our upstairs A/C not running cool. He determined it was low on Freon and was able to complete the project in less than 30-minutes. He was able to share a few minutes to discuss what was causing the continued leak, as we have had to add Freon over the past three summers. He was upfront and stated we would need to replace the coils in the unit sometime in the future. He stated to "just call me and I will be more than happy to complete the work". Business owners do not come more honest, knowledge and personable than Vixiene. read more

My mother's AC unit is 18 years old and it has been working intermittently during the last few weeks. It would turn off and not turn back on most of the time. I had a few other local AC companies (highly rated) come to the house but none of them offered us any solution outside of replacing the entire AC system (+ $6k). We decided to call Cool-It to get a quote for a new AC. Vixiene showed up to our house and asked me to explain the issues which we had been experiencing w/ our AC. I told him that the AC was old and needed to be replaced and that I wanted a quote for a new one. But Vixiene insisted so I explained what had been happening. He said that it was probably a clogged drain pipe and proceeded to clean out the drain pipe w/ a bottle of nitrogen. This solved our issue and we were thrilled! The clogged drain pipe was triggering the safety switch that kept shutting off the AC compressor. That was our issue. I was really impressed w/ Vixiene's honesty. He could have made a lot more money off of us if he would have done what every other AC company did which was tell us that we needed to get a new AC unit. Cool-it saved us Big time!!! We really appreciated our a/c technician, Billy's knowledge, professionalism and most of all his honesty. Our house wasn't cooling down appropriately so I called a couple of HVAC companies to assess the issue. We were told by two other companies that the coil was bad and needed to be replaced now and the compressor would need to be replaced soon as well. However, Billy, the tech verified it's an older unit, but still working just fine and only needed a few pounds of freon to cool down the house. Not to mention we were told we needed a new circuit board, only for Billy to tell us the thermostat only needed to be rewired. A simple fix. Cool-it saved us thousands. I can't say enough about Cool-it Air. I sent them a message on Sunday around 1:30 after realizing that my A/C wasn't blowing very cold. I received a response in about 20 minutes. Vixiene is a terrific guy & very honest. We had AC issues about a month ago & had four different companies come out. Three of the four told us we needed an entire new unit. Quotes ranged from 6k to 13k. Vix diagnosed the problem as being low on refrigerant. He refilled the refrigerant & was on his way. IMAGINE THAT...... an honest guy. We encountered the same problem two days ago & called Vix out again nervous that now we did indeed need to replace the entire unit. He goes back to the attic to do his investigating & says there is indeed an refrigerant leak & we needed to replace just the coils. Not the entire unit. Once again, he was honest. It really impressed me that both visits he was honest about the problem as opposed to trying to land the big sale. Both times we called him he was at the house within three hours. One of my HVAC compressor unit broke down. My home warranty sent me a technician from Air Master who made a good impression, but then the office did not follow up as they had promised. Looking at their reviews also got me worried and considering I had to replace the whole system I decided to also ask for a quote from two other vendors before making such an investment with them. Cool-it made me the best offer and Vincent made me a very professional impression. So I decided to give them the business. Jorge and Mario the technicians did a very good job and in one day (as advertised), also were very polite did not damage anything and cleaned thoroughly after them. Cool-it should be your first call. I made the mistake of calling another company and they just told me my AC needs replacing and quoted an outrageous amount. I called Cool-it for a second opinion and they were so much better. Vixienne was very clear about what happened with my system and did his best to minimize the expense. I could not be more satisfied with the service from this company. I requested an appointment online the day prior. My compressor and fan had stopped working (no cooling). The technician that came out (Billy) was very knowledgeable and straightforward. For the simpler tasks that a layman with some experience could do it him/herself, he offered advice and the option for the customer or for them to do it. They fixed the a/c issue (bad contactor), and I requested a tune-up/inspection after that, which he was able to fit in to the schedule. I've called Vixiene twice for service. The first time he came out, my downstairs AC had stopped working. He came out and quickly diagnosed the problem as a faulty compressor fan and quickly replaced it with a part he had on hand. I then asked if he could check the freon pressure in my upstairs AC since I'd been having AC guys come out once a year and they always told me the freon was low and it the AC needed more. Vixiene checked and told me it was fine and I shouldn't need freon every year. The next time I talked to him was a couple days ago when my upstairs AC blower stopped working. Vixiene told me how to get my AC back up and running right over the phone! No change, no trip fee, no labor, nothing! How many people in the AC business do you know that will even come close to that kind of customer service? I've dealt with my share of shady AC contractors and it's nice to find an honest person in the business. I highly recommend Vixiene and Cool It to anyone who needs help with their AC. We needed a 2nd opinion and the owner sent out Billy the technician, who diagnosed and solved our a.c. problem which a former company failed to do. We hired a previous company to do maintenance on my AC unit and they did not complete the job. Citing that I needed a new capacitor before he can "finish the job" and that rubbed my elderly mother the wrong way. She's old school and believes that if you are hired to do a job you should complete it even if you have to come back and do or add something else. It seems that perhaps we got Vixen's evil twin, according to all of the other reviews. I am extremely disappointed by this company's service, and feel totally ripped off. We moved into our home in October 2014, and wanted to be proactive in having our AC checked out before the unbearable heat returned for the summer. I chose this company because of its stellar reviews on Yelp, and expected only the best service. Which we seemingly received, until now. We requested a full service check on our unit (central air) a few months ago, which is what we were told we were getting by Vixen. He told my husband that everything looked great, that he had preformed inspections and cleaned all of the wiring, coils etc. on the entire unit (this is also recorded on an invoice that I am looking at right now). Vixen ensured that the unit would be good to go for the summer, and charged us $59.00 to do it. Well, our AC unit completely failed this week. We are on day four with no AC in Houston in the SUMMER. The company who was called to repair it, told us it is in total disarray, beyond repair, and that we would have to replace the entire unit. We are honestly not that surprised, the unit is old, looks terrible, and there were literal sparks coming out of it yesterday. What we are surprised about is Vixen not recommending any repairs or tune up options and not letting us know about these hazards, but thought that since he was deemed such an honest fellow, that he was well, being honest. Apparently, Vixen also neglected to let us know that our AC was a fire hazard, that the compressor and condenser are both damaged, that the wiring is a mess, and that the AC power is connected to the main breaker, which is also a total hazard. If Vixen is so magnificent, how in the world did he miss all of these major issues? It's totally ridiculous that we are now having to replace the entire unit. Its infuriating that we could have possibly prevented some of this catastrophe by doing something preventive, like, I don't know having the AC checked out before it crashed. Wait, we did that, and now I'm out $5,500, plus the $59 I paid Vixen to get me into this ridiculous mess. I am aware that it is not Vixen's fault that our AC is old and apparently a total piece of garbage. What is Vixen's fault is, that he neglected to inform us of how terrible it was, which would have allowed us to at least be proactive before it got too hot. Isn't that the point of an AC maintenance check? Now we are stuck in the summer with no AC. I might feel differently if Vixen's "inspection" happened a year ago, but he was literally here a few months ago. There is no way that our AC went from "good to go all summer" to beyond repair in that little amount of time. Vixen seriously dropped the ball on this and pretty much lied to our faces. Perhaps Vixen is good at fixing an AC/ his reviews, but he might be the absolute worst AC Inspector out there. I would seriously consider calling someone else for any maintenance or preventative services. Look what happened to me; I'm out a bunch of money, have a unit that is a fire hazard, and won't have AC until Monday (hopefully). Cheers! read more

First of all, I want to say how thoroughly impressed I am with this small business. This business is one hardworking, honest guy with a cellphone, a well equipped van, and great prices. Our A/C unit was failing slowly, working day and night to cool the house down to a measly 77 degrees. We knew something wasn't right and wanted to nip the problem in the bud before the poor marathoner machine broke down. We called at around 11 in the morning and Vixiene managed to book us around our work schedules - coming to our house at 7:30pm that same day. Vixiene diagnosed the problem quickly (low freon pressure), showed concrete evidence to support it, and quickly filled up our system and sent us on our way. First let me start by saying that I am as skeptical as customers come with this type of service (see my other Yelp posts and you'll agree). I am a do-it-yourself-er who has built or fixed almost anything you can imagine, so I don't have patience for those who overcharge for simple work or are dishonest about what actually needs to be done. I'm also a sales person by profession, so I see up-selling from a mile away and it drives me to despair. I say all that to give credibility to what I'm about to say - this is the best services company I've dealt with in a long time, and is definitely the best AC company I have EVER dealt with. He's as knowledgeable as they come, always gives useful information without ever trying to sell you something that you don't need, doesn't overcomplicate or exaggerate problems, is priced as well or better than all the competition, and is very quick/responsive. He just stayed on the phone with me until 10:30pm talking me through the correct wiring of a new fan motor and didn't charge me. That's unheard of in this industry...which is why I referred a colleague who needs an entire new unit installed to him and will continue to refer him business. So my AC condenser fan stopped working and Vixienne came over the same day to diagnose and repair the issue. Naturally as some of us homeowners can be especially not having had the problem before, the biggest fear is getting ripped off, but Vixienne was an incredibly honest and easy going professional who troubleshot and resolved the problem efficiently and got our central air working in this 95 degree humid heat we have been having. I called Cool-it Air Conditioning and Heating to check it out because I've had very good service from them in the past. They've always been very honest with the diagnosis and this time was no exception. They quoted a good price to fix the issues, but i decided that at this point I was just pushing off the inevitable, knowing that I was on borrowed time with these units, plus the changes to the coolant regulations.
