Okay I should say straight away that I've only had the chicken dinners from this place, not the pizza, so I can't speak to that, but the chicken dinner is So. Damn. Good. The chicken has been cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious, every time I go. It's served with coleslaw, cranberries, and potato wedges, all of which are good, but let me take a moment to rave about the wedges. The first time I got food here I ordered carry out, and when I got home I realized I didn't have any sour cream, which is my preferred topping for wedges. I really didn't want to go back out, but I was getting ready to, and just grabbed a wedge to munch on. It was absolutely delicious. I don't know what they flavor them with, if anything, but they've been cooked perfectly every time I've had them, soft and not dry, just seriously. So good. Honestly the only reason I give them four stars rather than five is because of the service. My mom came to town for a visit and I took her here, and the service was fairly lackluster. I don't think our waitress smiled at us even once, she just didn't seem to enjoy her job at all. I understand people have bad days, but having worked in the service industry myself, those are the days you put on a fake smile and still try to make your customers feel welcome. I probably won't eat in-house again, honestly, because I don't like being made to feel awkward when I'm trying to enjoy a meal, but will absolutely order carry out again. read more

Low quality, pre-packaged/processed Sysco food service ingredients. Service and ambiance are fine and classic Northwoods, but I've experienced mediocre to lame food (pizza and salad bar) the 4 to 5 times my dad has dragged me here over the years. Iceberg lettuce and Sysco croutons in the salad bar, canned mushrooms on the "veggie" pizza and enough potassium sorbate in the banana peppers and mountains of canned black and green olives to pickle your stomach. The "homemade" Italian sausage did not taste homemade, and the flavorless "wheat" crust is basically white with a few flecks of brown. How about modernizing your food and jumping ahead 10-15 years into the new millennium, Coops? Offer actual fresh local organic ingredients. Can't get local ingredients in the winter in the Northwoods? At least offer fresh organic produce brought in from somewhere else. How about romain lettuce and spring greens in the salad bar, with actual homemade dressings and croutons with EVO and fresh bread? How about organic spinach, fresh mushrooms, red onions and kalamata olives on your pizza, with a wheat crust that actually contains some wheat flour and some flavor? Most other mid-range pizza places in the rest of the US have already been doing this for years. Check out the menus of Glass Nickel in Madison or Fratellis in Flagstaff as examples. These are not high-end wood fired pizza places, but regular ol' local pizza parlors who offer mainly high quality, fresh ingredients, with fresh sausage and nitrite-free pepperoni. Just say no to Sysco and join the rest of us in 2014, Coops. read more

Have been there several times as I have a cabin in the area. Pizza is ok, apps are ok, atmosphere is ok, salad bar is as expected...but the fried chicken is off the charts awesome. If you are in the mood for fried chicken it is a no brainer place to go...anything else and no guarantees. By the way, the fish tank is cool, the kids love it. read more

Hayward seems to have less and less dining options. This is a consistently decent pizza. If you are looking for a Chicago or New York style pizza in the middle of the Northwoods, this is not yet but if you are looking for a decent restaurant to stop and eat I think you would be OK with this. read more

Not sure if the service was worse than the food. Its a close one to call. My wife and I go the salad bar. Which was at room temperature. There is nothing like a nice warm plate of potato salad on a hot summer day. My son got a burger. It was alright. Expected more since it took 45 minutes to get. The chips that came with it were beyond stale. We picked this place because of their sign out front for a wifi hot spot. After being at the cabin for a few days, my son needed his internet fix. Unfortunately, the wifi wasn't working. Then came trying to leave. Our server disappeared. We asked several times for a check, and each time was answered with "I'll find your server". 30 minutes later, we were able to leave. On the plus side, I was able to save all that money I would normally leave for a tip. read more

This is absolutely the worst pizza and service ever. 15 min for a server, pizza on Buffet was cold. Pizza Hut or the pizza at the gas station would have been a better choice. Avoid at all costs. read more

We had a fairly large group here for dinner after a wedding rehearsal, and we had a good time! The salad bar was better than I would have expected--several different kinds of fresh greens, lots of toppings, two soups, and potato and pasta salads too. Then we ordered a bunch of different pizzas, and I enjoyed the three that I tried. The pizza is very cheese- and topping-heavy, so you pretty much have to eat it with a fork or it all kind of falls apart. But that's quite alright since it was quite tasty anyway. read more

I had the lunch buffet. 7.99 for pizza, salad, and soup. The pizza is below average. The soup and salad were better but only average. They won't give you a drink to go. Now I paid 2.49 for a tea but unless your drinking it there you can't get more. Not a good way to run a business. I would go to another place if you want pizza. My husband has been coming here for years (since according to him it was in another location) and LOVES it. They have pretty good thin crust pizza and nice salad bar. The food is not amazing, but the service we received here was. They must hire the friendliest, politest teenagers in town. It was such a pleasant experience to dine here and I'm sure we'll be back the next time we make it to Hayward. read more

We love Coops and go there every time we are in Hayward. Their pizza is one of my favorite's, mainly because of the sauce, which is so unique and delicious. The pressure fried chicken is the juiciest chicken I have ever tasted. Their sandwiches and burgers are huge and are very tasty. Soup and salad bar is also good. If you are in the Hayward area, then you owe it to yourself to stop in at Coop's. Based on the name, I thought it was short for "Cooper," and I was hoping for demonstrations on barrel making. Although I was a little disappointed that there was no barrel-making demonstrations, my sadness was assuaged by the incredible ambiance. It was an atmosphere where you know you could drink without being judged. Not a single person looked at me sideways when I slammed my Leinie Light like an athiest after witnessing a ghost. We live in town, and love to order pizza from Coop's. Yes, it is a little pricey, but it is always delicious and we always have leftovers for lunch. They make their dough and sauce every day. We moved to Hayward last year and have tried Coop's a few times with underwhelming results. The chicken garlic pizza was very good. The spaghetti is nothing special. A ho-hum soup and salad bar. My husband was quite disappointed to discover they were out of soup! Today I tried their famous Italian beef sandwich - not sure why they brag about it. The menu says it includes giardiniere peppers - it did not. The beef did not have an Italian flavor. Esentially, it was a French Dip sandwich! Not bad, but not Italian beef. I think you could probably get the same items but with more flavor at the coop family restaurant. read more

Not good, wasted money. Frozen pizza would have been better. We had to ask for our water and our bill. The pizza buffet was 2 pizzas at a time, definitely not enough for the patrons there. After participating in Birkie 2017's snow-starved fest I was happy to eat at Coop's again! Craig greeted us & made us feel like regulars! Cold beer, great pizza, great salad bar & great atmosphere (the kids loved Coop's huge fish tank built into the wall right next to our table) - our visit to Coop's almost made up for the lack of snow! Was the worst pizza I've ever had!! The service was great, and the atmosphere is nice but the pizza had no flavor. The sauce tasted liked canned hunts tomato sauce, very runny and all the ingredients had no flavor and the crust was super rubbery and soggy. I'd come back but will never get pizza again!! read more

Was a little nervous about this place because of the mixed reviews here. Got even more nervous when we ordered and there seemed to be "rules" about everything - If you order a two piece chicken dinner it has to be all white or all dark, youc an't mix them - You can buy chicken by the piece but you have to buy at least 4 pieces - there is a wing sampler platter but you can only have them in certain combinations - it started to get confusing. But once we ordered, wow, the food was great! We had the buffalo wings which did not have as much buffalo sauce on them as we're used to but were plump and good. We tried a pizza and that was very good, lots of cheese, good homemade thin crust. And we had the "pressure cooked" chicken dinner which seemed like broasted chicken which is the same thing right? Anyway, the chicken was the best I've ever had and I'm not even a big chicken person - crispy skin on the outside, piping hot, juicy and tender on the inside. The Jo-Jo potatoes were amazing, usually they are thick wedges and can tend to be a little hard, but I've never had any like these, there was a thin, cripsy skin on the outside and when you bit into it they were so soft it was almost like mashed potatoes on the inside, even the thickest cut ones. Dinner also came with cranberry sauce and cole slaw, and three pieces of garlic toast which were yummy. Very reasonable prices for what we had. I feel I have to mention the dead animals - yes they do have lots of taxidermy but it's northern Wisconsin! As long as they don't drool on my food I'm good. We will be back. read more

Very nice to sit outside in the summer, beautiful hanging patunias are displayed outside and several humming bird feeders. The inside is kind of cool, dark with tons of cool stuff to see. We had the skinny pizza and it was delicious. I always go to this place everytime I visit Hayward. read more

Pizza was ok, nothing to write home about, but that fried chicken was EVERYTHING!!! The courtyard seating is very nice for an outdoor experience. My only issue was the pricing. I felt the prices were a bit too high for the quality of food, but maybe its just me. read more

Saw online Coop's has a pizza buffet at lunch, so thought we'd check it out. The buffet includes all-you-can-eat salad bar and pizza. The salad bar was good. Fresh lettuce, nice veggies, etc. The pizza "buffet" was most definitely lacking! It consisted of two pizzas put out at a time. One pizza was cheese only (not much cheese at that) and one had either sausage (one small piece of sausage per piece of pizza) or a bit of Canadian bacon. Not an onion, a mushroom or a tiny speck of pepper to be found! The bill for two came to a tad over $14. I wish we had spent the extra $5 or $6 and gone to Gruzy's near Minong. This was our first trip to Coop's (and most likely our only trip), so I can't commment on the menu items. read more

Being a pizza parlor, I expected some phenomenal pizza. There is a restaurant tucked away in North Central Wisconsin that I compare all my pizza to. Coopers falls flat on its face in that competition. Yeasty, dry, crust and not all too great sauce, cheese, or toppings. Fantastic place to take the kids/grandkids. Casual atmosphere, so they can run around, and the ginormous fish tank will keep them busy, too! Pizzas are average, but who cares? We are from the east coast and we stopped in Hayward for the night after a 15+ hour roadtrip. My wife and I wanted healthy food for dinner--salad bar--and the kids wanted other choices. We got to Coops Pizza and the place was packed. We all ended up getting the salad/soup bar all-you-can -eat and seem garlic bread. We loved the outdoorsie schtick with taxidermy and the 2,000 gallon fish tank. Atmosphere was great, food was good (but tasted great after day of travel!) and service was outstanding. Food is great and kids love the aquarium, but I do not like how the Lady who seems to be the owner or in charge is frequently rude to her staff...one day I even heard her yelling and our waitress who seemed to be the only one covering the whole front dining area. I hardly go in there now. read more
