Copa provided a nice evening of wine consumption and good conversation. It was refreshing to go to a dedicated wine bar and find so many options in terms of other offerings. The appetizers, limited menu, desserts, and alternative drinks (beer) give the non-oenophile some other things to peak their interest. Whatever the occasion, there should be something for everyone. While everything was adequate, I was not impressed with anything specifically. The wine list was ample and the ambiance was pleasant but for whatever reason it reminded me of what a strip-mall store might look like if it were ready to go trick-or-treating in a prepackaged costume. Do not be fooled by the outdoor seating available because if you sit outside you will be enjoying a decent bottle of wine in the company of a nearby car grill. My recommendation is to check Copa out on a weeknight, stay downstairs or at the bar, and simply enjoy one or more bottles of wine. Besides, we're all here for the wine right? Ok this place had the potential to be great and I was EXCITED to try out somewhere new but that's about as good as it got! We arrived and let the hostess know there would be about 10 in our group and they offered to open the upstairs for us to sit (this place is SMALL!) Great, I thought this is still going good, the place is quaint but they made accommodations for us and I was still excited. We were given menus to look over and make our selections I found a wine flight that looked good and told the waiter I was ready, thats where the excitement ended. I was quickly told "NO we are NOT doing flights for groups, that's too many glasses." WTF?! Thats RIDICULOUS you will do it for a WHOLE dang establishment full but not for a group (we ended up being a total of 6 in our group.) OK I didn't want to make a scene so I grumbled a bit but then just said I'll have a glass of this Cabernet ($19.) Keep in mind the price RETAIL for this bottle is $24 for the whole dang bottle! I got 1 glass of wine and tried to sip on it since I wasn't going to be ordering another WAY OVER PRICED item. Then a was smacked with the bill and a 20% gratuity had been added, again another WTF moment you need a $4 tip on my ONE glass of wine you brought me???? NOPE I won't come back, the ONLY reason they got 2 stars is due to the cool laid back atmosphere and how they accommodated us just showing up with a group. 1 lady in our group food order got lost while we were there too (only 3 people ordered food from our group.) You can get a decent bottle of wine in a lot of places these days, but how many places really do it well? You can spend a bundle on dinner in a nice restaurant and hope your server has a working knowledge of the wine list, but you know it's usually a crap shoot. Thankfully, this "wine bar" lives up to it's promise - great bottles served at decent prices by knowledgable staff. Copa was relatively quiet for a Saturday night, so my friends and I grabbed a table on the "patio" (really, the sidewalk). The patio is dog-friendly, which was perfect for us. Service was quick in coming, and, best of all, we threw a couple of options out to the server with our test line - "Which would you choose?" The answer, which was not remotely the most expensive of the options given, turned out to be a great bottle for the price. Rely on the servers here. Can't comment much on the food, as we had a plate of manchego cheese. Very tasty, paired great with the wine, and was served with little toasted pieces of bread. The crowd was light but entertaining, particularly the group of bachelorettes occupying the upstairs seating. I'm not a 5-star review kind of guy, but I left Copa feeling like I had been well taken care of, and with a tab that felt like I had brought in a special coupon (which I hadn't). Came in for a bottle of wine during happy hour. Our server Drake knew his craft and directed us to a delicious bottle of Twenty Rows Cabernet. The setting is really relaxing and casual. I always wanted to go wine tasting and try different drinks . I called in advance to see if i could make a reservation , and he said i didn't need one .well needless to say we went in on a Tuesday night and the area was full we were able to find a small table . We waited for about 15 minutes until we decided to leave . Now we both work in the service industry so we both saw it was only one bartender that was attending everybody so we were being patient. All he did was give us the scannable QR code and forgot about us . It was disappointing not being able to celebrate the way i wanted to . And especially knowing that the bartender didn't want to serve us . We arrived at around 10 and they didn't close until 2am . Also only the bottom half is opened , making it a bit of a tight space . read more

I Love Copa! They have a great selection of wines and have wine flights too. The waiters are very knowledgeable about wines. The food is also delicious. I've had their cerdo borracho pizza and it is to die for. A plus is also that their service is incredible. read more

We had a great time at Copa Wine Bar. The server was very knowledgeable, and we enjoyed the wine and food.

We planned to attend their monthly wine tasting on Wednesday. Sine they were closed the previous week due to an accident in the kitchen, I called Monday to confirm that the wine tasting was still on. Luckily I called as I was given the tip to arrive early. We arrived about 4:45 pm to take advantage of their Happy Hour before the wine tasting starts at 6 pm. We were told that we didn't have to wait until 6 pm, so we ordered some food and started the wine tasting. Since there were only 4 other customers then, our Mediterranean Dip came out quickly and the La Verdad pizza shortly after that. The Dip was good but the Marinara sauce and nice crust made the pizza excellent! The tip about arriving early was right on as people started to come in shortly after 5 pm and it was pretty packed after 5:30 pm! Looks like there were lots of regular patrons as one of the owners greeted many tables. The pours were generous and we liked all 6 wines in the tasting, which is rare in our experience! Luckily we found my wife's favorite one from this tasting at the Central Market near us. Looking forward to attending future tastings here to add more wines to our like to drink list. read more

Used to be one of our favorites and a near weekly visit. Unfortunately we won't go back again. Busy Friday night at 5pm and low on wait staff. Waited 20 minutes to get my wine refreshed after food arrived despite going to the bar to ask and numerous people behind the bar ... our waiter got stuck helping a large group and we were left in the cold. Probably could have excused that, but the manager or owner that came over to make a lame excuse and then argued with was unfortunate. Apparently they don't need our business any more. One word sums this place up. "Meh". Stopped in on a rainy night during the week for a relaxing evening. Copa is a nice looking spot that leaves so much to be desired. First, it was very humid and stuffy inside. The bartender, who was handling the whole restaurant seemed rushed and overwhelmed. It wasn't that busy, maybe 1/4 the way filled. Tons of different wines to choose from and some good looking food choices. I can't say that I would go back even though I really want to like this place. In the back of my mind, the jazz music was playing...John Mayer was singing along with his electric guitar riffs in the background echoing off my wine glass. That's the way I imagined my night at Copa would end. It all started with my love affair of the hummus so magnificently spiced that I swear it was spiked with pork. "Is this vegetarian?" I asked the waiter. My first waiter I ever experienced went out of his way to ensure me and my date had a memorable time and genuinely enjoyed our date. Whether he knew it was our 100th or 10th time was not relevant..."There is no pork or animal fat in it...and you're welcome." I enjoyed his sly response as I welcomed his matter-of-factly tone to something I was sure would be an unfavorable answer. Nonetheless, I ate up. And up and up. Tonight me and my sister went back for happy hour after having such an unbelievably good visit the first couple of visits. Again, I have a fondness for the hummus and tonight it was 50% off so for me, it was a good night. Immediately after being sat at the bar however, we encountered the hell of all wine bartenders. "What would you like?" she said in her most uninviting voice. "A red," I said. "Not too dry, you have a lot of selections," I said...she gave me the look that implied that she was not there to help me choose a wine (blasphemy!) but simply to pour a glass to not accompany the hummus I ordered and disregarded the vast selection. (I'd like to think I have a somewhat thorough wine knowledge.) I ended up ordering a Tempranillo that I somewhat enjoyed followed by a garnacha that I'd trot the globe for. To accompany our chickpea tastings we ordered up a three cheese pizzette. It was no Dough, as it was a little bit soggy in the middle but it was able to curve my workplace hunger. Now, this place would easily get 5 stars for every other experience I have had (as well as every glass/bottle and serving) except that tonight I met she-b**ch and her earth name was in the form of Lucy. I ordered the chocolate cake since it looked gluttonizing on the menu. When it came to my table though it was cold, and tasted like it had been refrigerated for hours. After a few bites we decided this could not be eaten enjoyably and asked if it could be exchanged for another dessert like Crème Brulee. There were some words about why this couldn't be exchanged and all in all I ended up with a seemingly, previously frozen dessert that we were unable to exchange for a fresher one (blasphemy #2!). This inevitably led up to my (surprisingly) unhappy response to a place I favor so highly on my lists of places to frequent. I will most likely venture here again though against my better will to exchange in a what must be, holier than thou hummus experience and not so usual wine lists...who am I kidding...I love this place. read more

i really wasn't impressed with copa. granted i consider myself lucky to live in austin, where a new wine bar pops up every few months. i got this feeling that copa is trying incredibly hard to be something it is not. the wine flights were alright, with a decent selection. i would have liked to see a pinot grigio flight. glasses of wine came with a good pour ratio. the only negative thing about this was the price. eek!! our server was nice and attentive. overall, the important aspects in a wine bar were fair in my opinion. maybe it's the decor, maybe it's the atmosphere. i know part of it was the crowd. i can't blame copa for bringing in a younger, less classy crowd though. but i can warn you before you consider this an evening of glamour...it's not. it's just another night in a san antonio strip mall. read more

Copa Wine Bar Okay fellow drunkards (or wine snobs.. whatever) if you don't feel like paying 300% mark-up on wine and you want to drink it at a bar Copa Wine Bar is the place to go. The staff (and owners) are VERY knowledgeable. You can go in there and say.... "I want a nice red with some pepper, cassis and heavy tannins" and they will bring out a wine with exactly those characteristics. Not only that but it will be only a little more than you would pay at the grocery store! The selection is gimongus... lots and lots of wine. I particularly love the wine flights though I miss the wine/chocolate flights that were available for only a short time. Too, I love the food at Copa. I'm not sure if I have tried anything on the menu that sucked but the Cheese, meat and fruit plates totally rock! With big puffy couches upstairs and all the seating downstairs there's something for every occasion at Copa. Quiet cozy spots for that in front of the fireplace feeling with your date or spaces to socialize with a dozen friends or soon-to-be friends. The music there is just loud enough to cover nearby conversations but not so loud as to make it difficult to converse with your table mates. The live musicians are always talented and fun. Yes, I like Copa. I like it a lot. **EDIT** I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to Jeff and David for being so kind to Mrs. SgtCody while I was deployed. I generally am not a huge fan of the Stone Oak scene, but I'm definitely a fan of Copa. It has a good variety of wine to choose from and good appetizers-tortilla de Oro and Zeta pizza are my fav. I love that they carry Wente wine, which is hard to find out here. I've had the sweet red and sweet white wine flights which were tasty and gave decent servings of each wine. read more

I actually wonder if this place has enough traffic to keep all those the wines from going flat and stale. My husband and I both got flights and felt like two of the four wines in both flights sat open for too many days - they fell flat. Other than that, we did enjoy this place for the ambience. This was my fourth time at Copa. The staff are knowledgeable about wine and their selection seems to be good. Prices are slightly high for food and wine, but this is expected in Stone Oak. I have also tried many of their food dishes. These are typically unique and fresh. They compliment the wines well, and their staff are very good at suggesting pairings. My favorite to date is their meatball dish. It is cooked in wine and made on site. Perfect compliment to a nice red! The feel of the restaurant itself is dark and basic. It was too loud to talk and the tables were too close together. There were only 1 or 2 tables that I consider private and they were taken. We ended up outside where we were surrounded by cigar smokers on one side and cigarette smokers on the other. The wine selection for samplers were poor especially for white wine and overpriced. Four 2 oz samples started at $20 ... I ordered a sampler and then we order a glass of wine off that... Thought it would be $10 or so ... NO..... $20 for a glass of red wine! ...
