Unfortunately, I was not particularly thrilled with my visit. To begin, the staff lack a general professionalism. The male workers looked bored and were unengaged with there surroundings. The waitresses were kind, but had no sense of urgency and in generally looked like they all just rolled out of bed. Not a deal breaker but doesn't assist with creating a positive environment. Speaking of environment the outdoor area is pleasant and the various plants and foliage set around did add to the atmosphere. A good power washing and some effort to hide wires and such wouldn't be a bad idea though. I did not see the interior so am unsure about what the restaurant looks like inside. And of course the food! Priced well and would encourage the location if you are looking for simple fair. Portions were sizable, but overall it was nothing special. Very generic overall. While I wouldn't say don't try it, I wouldn't be quick to recommend either. read more

We tried copacabana recently because its ratings were mostly positive, but our experience was vastly different. I can say that without a doubt, this was the absolute WORST service I have ever experienced at any restaurant to date. Slow on bringing out food, waitress barely seen by us, they kept forgetting food orders, under and over cooked mushy meat. After sending my Churasco plate back twice due to it first being way over cooked and then them sending me out a raw piece of meat the second time, I got disgusted and just had them remove it from the bill and take it away. I ordered a Cubano in addition to my main course so i still jad something to eat, but it was dry as hell. They forgot my cerviche, my sons ox-tail platter and my wifes sangria, we had to ask twice for refills, the waitress was extremely innatentive. And my sons chicharones had an unpleasant smell to them, which deterred him from eating them. Took them 20 minutes to bring my son his oxtail platter after they first brought out all of the entres. Between the long wait times, lack of waitress visibility, badly cooked meat, and missing food orders, it was easy to decide never to visit this place again. Next time we are looking for goo's Cuban food we will go to Las Palmas around the corner. read more

The cappuccino was not frosted milk it was store made whip cream. Decor is nice the music is good just not the food. Went to Mount Dora for the day with friends and we stumbled across an Arts and Crafts Spring Festival. (Even tho it felt more like a winter day). The fair was in the main town area. As we were walking around we decided to stop for lunch. We came upon this Cuban Restaurant and decided to give a try. As we entered we were greeted and shown to a table. After being seated we all ordered cocktails. I ordered their homemade red sangria. It was delicious and was a very generous size!! For lunch I ordered their Cuban sandwich (minus the cheese). It was large and delicious as well. It was served with a side of fried yucca with a garlicky topping. Service was excellent and I left full. This restaurant also had a very large patio area. Unfortunately, it was cold and not a nice day to sit outside. read more

Do not eat at this restaurant, my husband and I spent the day in Mt. Dora and we decided to have an early dinner, we did a to go order, I had ropa vieja and my husband had a cuban sandwich, after we go home and eat, around 5:30 about 3 hours later I got violently sick vomiting, with bad stomach cramps and later came the diarrhea. I called the restaurant immediately, I got a very nasty message from the manager Beni who stated that he was in the kitchen all day and was not possible for me to get sick and that fast. I have filed a report with the health dept. and business dept. STAY AWAY!!! While the server was nice, it could not make up for our experience. We waited over an hour for 3 sandwiches and an entree that were beyond subpar. The sandwiches were lukewarm and bread no longer toasty and served with a side of what tasted like defrosted freezer burned old fries. The tostones were worse than frozen Goya. The rice was mushy and pork was cold and missing flavor. Additionally the restaurant needed a deep clean with baseboards filled with grime and walls with what looks like bean juice Jackson pollak'ed on it. The women's room was in an abismal state as well. We had to wait for over an hour to get our food, portions are pretty small (which is not typical for a cuban restaurant) some dishes were cold. I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. The crowd was hopping and being as I was a single, I was lucky to get sat. Bur I did, and very quickly. My server was very polite..she got my drink and with in a minute of me placing my order, she brought me out my delicious ripa vieja. It's a lot of food. Looks as close as you will get to an authentic Miami Cuban restaurant. The staff is very friendly and music gives you that Cuban Caribbean vibe. The pechuga empalizada was over cooked almost deep fried burnt tips. Great portion most definitely satisfying. The black beans need more seasoning as they were bland I needed to add salt. The Steak Palomilla was over cooked almost dry and the sace was asked to be on the side, instead it was not brought out at all. The chicharones were very crunchy and crispy, but of gas station quality. I give thisbplace a solid 3 for the full bar, live music, friendly staff and great portions. Waited over 30 minutes from reported time that it wad stated my takeout order would be prepared. Went up to 3 different people for help and not one helped. Instead they just passed me. I saw food sitting behind the kitchen curtain for who knows how long. After 35 minutes I saw my name and just grabbed the food myself. This place is great - it got 3 stars because the server encountered on last trip was not attentive or seemed tuned into the clientele. I placed an order online and my Hubby and I came to pick it up. Since their outdoor patio Wasn't to busy and we could sit - we decided to buy a drink and eat our food quickly there. The time spent getting our drinks and check paid was a bit chaotic and while they were a bit busy the server helping us (Who I Did tip on the food) was busy munching on her food and drinking her soda in between other tasks. It's all ok, not mad. Will come back but I need all things to align for 4 or 5 stars. We got beef empanadas and a Cuban sandwich. Super yummy and the food was a 5! When I visited this establishment I was in the area working. Afterwards I decided to grab dinner with my partner. We looked around at all the nice restaurants when we strolled by browsing the menus on our phones or if any were listed outside in order to find some plant based options. We felt this was a safe choice for me to find some vegan options which I did. The server was nice but the food was not. We received the items lukewarm. I got a vegetable relleno de papa (stuffed potato ball). It was not edible. I didn't eat it. After 2 bites I couldn't stomach the sourness coming from the stuffing which was just veggies. I refused to eat it. The rice was lukewarm and the beans were just ok. As a biracial person who also is part of Hispanic culture, it's very difficult to find Spanish cuisines that are authentic. When love and passion are missing from the food that symbolizes your country, you are not giving the proper representation of your culture. Ive had Cuban food in the past, and know it can be very delicious, I'm just disappointed this place did not deliver in the slightest. NOTE: More of a 2 star rating but because the overall rating is way too high, I have to under-compensate here! I love venturing to new locations and discovering great places to eat. What I don't like is picking a place that looks like it has tons of potential but falls short in almost every category. Enter Copacabana Cuban Cafe! What a complete disappointment. It begins with a strange front entrance area. There's a standing sidewalk sign with the restaurants name that is the only indicator because you can just walk right passed the place. Once you walk down that narrow pathway, you see dining tables to the left with white lights hanging giving it a nice aesthetic until you get to the front. A masked hostess greets you and takes down your name giving you an estimated seating time. Upon walking into the restaurant you see nice Art Deco, hanging pictures of Caribbean and Latin fanfare. It's a cute spot but that's where it ends. The service was terrible. We had a young Caucasian female who seemed a step or two slow and didn't pay much attention to us or detail. I specifically asked for "two waters" at least 3 times and we still only got one water. I should have known this night was going to be a disaster at this point even though we were only 5 minutes in! But I push forward because I really wanted to love this place. So we order a drink and it was completely watered down. We order a Cuban sandwich (because in my mind if you can't make a good Cuban then there's no point ordering anything else) and it was easily one of the most pathetic Cubans I've ever had. There was so little pernil that it looked as if they put a spoonful on and smeared it from end to end like it was mayo. The French fries were literally clumped together making it a small mountain of a single fry! I should have taken a picture of this but I was already too disgusted to take out my cell. I'm not even going to continue explaining how utterly dissatisfied and disappointed we were. After all that, to get a check that's overpriced for the small portions and disappointing quality of food was the icing on the cake or in their case, the fly on the poop! Don't see myself ever going back there. Just another un-authentic Cuban restaurant that has potential but falls very short. read more

I visited Downtown Mount Dora today for the first time and came to Copacabana for lunch. We arrived around 11:45am and they were able to seat us outside immediately. We sat our on the patio with our puppy (they are dog friendly on the patio) and it was very cute with lots of shade. Immediately upon seating we were given Cuban bread and water which was awesome, especially in the FL heat. The bread was also delicious - crusty, fluffy, and well buttered. We got the Pork Tamale, the Pan con Lechon sandwich, and sides of tostones and maduros. The highlights were the sandwich - the meat was flavorful and was made even better which the sauces that were provided table side (Chimichurri & a spicy sauce) and the tostones and maduros. The tamal was OK, but it wasn't too flavorful and the meat didn't really stand out. Overall really enjoyed this restaurant and would recommend if looking for a bite in downtown Mt. Dora! read more

This is not my first time here. I've been here a couple times before and usually service and food are spot on. Not sure what has changed but definitely something had and NOT for the better! Food was mediocre to nasty. Rice I was served was cold and mushy. Not sure who made the rice but they put way too much water and it was like eating mushy rice. The presentation to the Boliche was horrendous I've never seen anything like it! Missing a chorizo in one and then they just threw the 3 plantains on the plate which never have I seen that done before. Service was slow I overheard someone else saying their food was cold too. Again not sure what had happened are who's taken over this place but bring back the old ways because you're diminishing what use to be a good place to go to. read more

Great little restaurant here in Mount Dora. Wonderful outdoor patio. My wife had the vegetarian dish with chickpeas and devoured it all. I had the authentic pork lunch special. Each person had to ask for more water. Slow service at 3 p.m. today/Saturday. The beans and yellow rice were tasteless, no seasoning. The Cuban sandwich was cold. There are no flavors to rave about in any of the meals. 4 people in our party. One person ordered ice cream, she said we're out of ice cream then rushed away giving us no opportunity to order another item. And, this was for the birthday person and she knew it was his birthday!! Went to Copacabana for lunch. Our meals were out of this world good. Lots of options on the lunch menu. Portions are generous and they come with two sides. Possibly the best plantains anywhere. We shared a flan. It was so good we scraped the plate clean. The restaurant is clean with lots of old school Cuban charm. They have a full bar. We had no complaints about service.
