Peaceful, relaxed. Great place to get work done or sit outside and enjoy the sun. Some comfy chairs, and large, steady tables for posting up with your computer. Outside seating, which can be hard to find downtown. Quietly crosses off everything on the list you'd want out of a local coffee shop, without being pretentious about it. Plus there's homemade ice cream. A little pricy, like most of Juneau, but good coffee, homemade sandwiches, and the ice cream is excellent. This morning I watched the owner, Mark, deal with a city power outage, while running the front by himself, looked like a staffer had called in sick. While he was serving a series of customers, 3 different groups of 10+ middle school kids came in doing a school scavenger hunt. The kids loudly asked him to pose for pictures, sing while he worked etc... oblivious to terrible timing. Given the circumstances, a lot of people would have snapped. Mark handled it with aplomb. Amazing ice cream made locally with local Juneau ingredients; craft coffee roasted down the block; salmon caught in local waters. Coppa is a community treasure! Try the tangy rhubarb sorbet in spring, and cherry bourbon vanilla (with cherries harvested from yards all around the neighborhood) in summer. These folks care about their ingredients, their customers, and their community. If you work in the Federal Building you'll be here everyday. Everyone else, make sure you stop by at least once a week ... You need that affogato! Went close to closing and they weren't busy at all. Very nice employee. Sign said all ice cream and desserts were made on site. Tried a few delicious samples including spruce tip, rubarb sorbet, and brownie stout. All were good. My husband had a float with a Mexican coke and spruce tip ice cream. So good! Coppa is one of a very small minority of food business that I am glad to see in Juneau, with a pride of ownership, consistantly good quality. The food here isn't cheap, but the quality you would be pleased with. Ice cream isn't overly sweet which is important for me, nothing kills the flavor than overwhelming a dessert with too much sugar. So done with this place. I went this afternoon (4/27/2017), and it seems that if you go any time after lunch they have zero or almost zero baked goods, because this has happened every time I go in the afternoon. They will tell you they run out because they don't like to have leftovers at the end of the day. Rly? Flour is cheap, if you're going to bake scones and muffins, just make a few more, for chrissakes. Heritage never runs out of baked goods. Coppa staff told me, "ours are fresher than Heritage, we bake every morning." I don't know if Heritage bakes theirs every day or not, but I was impressed when I had a blueberry scone there yesterday. It was moist on the inside and crusty and flaky on the outside, with giant blueberries in it. read more

I purchased a "regular" size ice cream...not know what size that really was. Turns out is was around 2 ounces and cost me $5. REALLY!! Did the Queen personally hand churn this ice cream? The flavor wasn't any better than what I can purchase at the grocery store. The only difference in your ice cream is you're willing to try interesting flavors, like salmon, salmon berry, fireweed honey. You really think too much of yourself. I will not be buying your ice cream again. I can buy Gelato for less and get more at another coffee shop in town. Won't go here again. read more

I start out each weekday with Coppa for a cup of coffee (including home-made Spruce Tip, Lavender, and Devil's Club syrup lattes) or tea and a baked good before heading to work. My go-to morning favorites are the lemon ginger scones and savory spiral baked with an egg on top. Every employee is friendly with great customer-service skills. The locally made ice cream, revolving creative flavors are over the top delicious and I buy a take-home pint about once a month. Some of my favorites have been chocolate sciraca, kumquat sciraca, and (locally-harvested) cherry bourbon. Coppa is one of my favorite places to work on my novel on a rainy Saturday and then I enjoy a pot of mint tea and a generous plate of salad. Bad customer service. Walking by and my son was slowly working on a frozen yogurt in a plain cup. We got cold, so we popped in and bought 2 drinks and went to sit down.
