great location, great atmosphere. sometimes service is slow but they are pretty busy. Just don't go if you're in a hurry for dinner. Lunch is usually fine. Good menu with lots of choices, somethings are a little salty for me. Clam chowder is good, so are burgers. read more

Is it just me or is anyone else grossed out over the creepy commercialized shredded lettuce and thick cut turkey and ham? I have no idea what it is about it but it's gross. I ordered a club sandwich not too long ago and I just couldn't stomach it. The same goes for their chicken wrap...Not a fan! As I have said before in a previous post, I am highly allergic to tomatoes. About 6 months ago I went in here for a salad and made sure to tell everyone that tomatoes could kill me. When I received my salad, I began eating it because there was no evidence of tomatoes present and I immediately started feeling that all too familiar itchiness in the back of my throat. After searching the salad better, I found a cube of tomato in the center of the bowl. It was almost like someone had it out for me! I immediately took Benadryl and had to leave. The poor waitress had no idea what to do and she had the "please don't sue us" face on. Since the event, my husband has talked me into trying the restaurant again. This time we went last week and it was rather good. I just made sure not to order a salad or anything that could come in contact with raw tomatoes. Our waitress was a newbie and was very nervous but she still got a $10 tip before we left. You could tell that she was swamped and was trying her best. Too bad there aren't more people like her there that actually want to please the customers rather than stand at the front and run their mouths. I get that making friends at work is a plus, but when you do nothing but stand at the front of the restaurant with your breasts practically hanging out, the only attention you are going to get is the wrong kind if you catch my drift! When one thinks of Boiling Springs, SC, I am sure the words "culinary mecca" do not come to mind, if you're even thinking of Boiling Springs to begin with. There's a small stretch of Highway 9 that caters to the weary Upstate traveler: a giant Chik-fil-a, the occasional McDonalds, a Wal-Mart, and various and sundry restaurants that pander to the time-famished society we have become. And there's a moment as you're driving down this highway that the mind-numbing amounts of fast food restaurants becomes too much to bear...until the Copper River Grill rises in all its glory from over the mountain ledge. Never in all my days have I been this blown away by this kind of restaurant. What appears to be from the outside a glorified Ruby Tuesday's is on the inside a wonderland of enormous appetizers, incredible salads, mind-blowing entrees, and desserts that could themselves feed entire third-world countries. If you love onion rings, the Copper River Reds are a MUST: thinly sliced red onions, coated and seasoned and flash-fried, served with ranch, then piled higher on the plate than the Appalachians outside. I also had the crab-stuffed flounder (one of my many food weaknesses), served hot, with the most amazing garlicky, parmesany creamed spinach I've ever tasted and perfectly smashed "Loaded" mashed potatoes. To finish, an enormous serving of their warm cinnamon apple crumb cobbler sufficiently filled my tummy to the point where I swore I would never eat again (until my mom and sister could not finish their dessert!). The service was incredible as well. We had a large party (around 10 people) and we were catered to perfectly. The wait staff was very friendly, and very efficient as well. A word of caution however: this restaurant is SO good (and apparently the only sought-after restaurant in Spartanburg County) that the wait time builds up very quickly. We made a reservation for 7:30 on a Friday night and still ended up waiting an hour before being seated. Keep this in mind if you're heading there on the weekend. It's too bad this restaurant is only in Upstate SC (Greenville-Spartanburg, and the random location in Columbia and ONE in Kentucky), because I would literally eat here every weekend if I could. I had the Bigfoot's Mother-In-Law burger, which consisted of a giant burger patty, grilled ham, crispy-fried shrimp, Monterrey Jack, remoulade sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onions & pickles. I must say this was one of the biggest, sloppiest (in a good way) , and most tasteful burgers I have ever eaten!! It was HUGE, so big, I had to eat it with a knife and fork. My first visit was good, very good but I decided to save judgment for my second visit including dinner. Good thing I did because I would hate to miss lead someone and tell them how good the food was when it really wasn't. My wings that I ordered crispy and well-done still had blood on the inside and were rubbery and under cooked and no smoke flavor at all. After the manager Allen took them off of the bill we then ordered a crispy cheese fry appetizer. Once again the order was incorrect and pathetic. They were lip under cooked in way over seasoned with a seasoning salt but apparently had red dye number 40 in the mix which immediately gave me a headache. Updating my previous review... we decided to give this place one more shot (it's slim pickings in Boiling Springs for restaurant variety), and I'm happy to say that it was much improved from my previous 2 experiences. Service was great, and the food was excellent. The loaded mashed potatoes are no longer drenched in butter, and the food was overall less greasy and more flavorful. My wife's chicken tenders were not burnt at all and had a nice seasoning. I had forgotten how good the pizza was here (having sampled my daughter's). While still a bit pricey, the place is a bit nicer than most establishments in the area. The kids meals were reasonably priced (under $5) which is half the battle when you have kids. We had a very positive experience, so this place is back on the good list for us. read more

First time visitor from out of town. We were in a hurry to eat on our way in between soccer games. They sat us quickly in the bar, took our order right away and when we needed things bagged up to go they responded again quickly to our needs. The manager helped out, was polite and focused on our experience as well as our need to get out the door. All this great service AND the food was excellent. I only wish we had more time to enjoy the ambiance. Very nice, clean, rustic, with fireplaces burning. As warming as the food. read more

This was my first visit to this Copper River location. I ordered the lunch baby back ribs. Those were the driest, saddest, leanest, ribs I have ever had. No restaurant should serve ribs that dry and tasteless. I did not send them back because after that experience I didn't want to risk another food fail. I was in Spartanburg on business and did not expect this find. The food and service were great. I did not expect the expansive menu. If you are a collard fan, you must order them! They taste like grandmas. I ordered prime rib, collards, sweet potato and a very delicious dessert that was sinful - baked crossiant custard. I was very disappointed with my visit on February 4th. It was my mother's birthday dinner and she wanted to eat here. The service was excellent but the food was terrible. I ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo and it was very bland and nasty. The server was nice enough to take it back and bring me some teriyaki wings which were nasty as well. We have been to this location a handful of times and normally its pretty good. This time however, was a major let down. We started off with my husband's beer being totally skunked. Then we ordered the river reds for an appetizer, and when we got them they were so over cooked that they literally crumbled in our fingers from the slightest touch. For our entrees, I ordered the sirloin cooked medium and my husband ordered the flounder. My sirloin arrived looking delicious but when I started cutting I discovered that it was cooked very rare. I love a good pink center but this steak was practically mooing from my plate. My husband happily tore into his flounder, saying it was really tasty. That all changed once he realized he was chewing a pretty decent sized fish bone, which immediately killed any and all appetite he had. Really, the only positive thing I can say about our meal is that our waitress was an angel. We probably wont be back, but if we did decide to return it would be solely because of the great customer service, definitely not for the food. read more

In town for a few days so the wife and i decided to have dinner here on 05/25/13. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the Blackened Salmon Sandwich. Two bites into the sandwich and she had put it aside and said she couldn't eat another bite of it. I finished up and we left shortly after. Two miles up the road we had to stop for her to be sick. She couldn't put her finger on the problem but said something just wasn't right with the salmon. The attitudes of the two young female bartenders also needs some improvement. If you could get their attention over their cell phones and flirting with local guys you could get service otherwise you had to wait until they decided to check on everyone. We are fans of Copper River Grill in every other location we have dined at but would not recommend this one to anyone. read more

This place use to run like a well oiled machine and was a go to spot for my family for years. My wife and I ate here two weeks ago and was super disappointed. We hoped it was a bad night so we returned again today and had a similar experience. It is not the same restaurant, let alone the atmosphere from the hostesses when you walk in assures you that you are just another number. I'm not sure if they are recruiting their chefs from McDonalds but the food has become some of the greasiest and most bland food I have tasted. A restaurant of this caliber should be able to season and marinade a ribeye steak, never have I had a tougher, over cooked, flavorless chunk of meat. One of our favorites the apple cobbler has been destroyed by a change to the recipe. We received a hunk of hard dough that they use for the croissants covered by some canned apples and ice cream. It was terrible. The manager Christine appears to be frazzled by her job, she did tell us the restaurant had made some menu changes but there is more going on than this for this restaurant. I counted quite a few tables she had to go and visit last night. That was unheard of previously. Hopefully Copper River will send in a corporate chef and management team for retraining before they run this establishment in the dirt. Never have I seen a kitchen a kitchen allowed to run more like a circus. One of the waitresses put on quite a show throwing some time of salad topping at the chefs while they were cooking, just to be funny. That's disgusting. We use to have to wait over an hour for a table, I assure you this isn't the case anymore. Take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of new establishments in the area that would love to have your business and money. read more

My family and I went here on a Sunday evening. I've always heard good things and we decided to try it. There were 8 of us. We actually got sat almost immediately but it took them over 10 minutes for out server to even stop by our table to acknowledge us. I was near the point of getting up and tracking down someone. It wasn't like they were busy. I mean, if you can seat a party of 8 immediately, then you aren't busy. When out server finally stopped by the table, everything was great. He was awesome. Our food came out quickly and he stayed on top of our drinks. We never complained about that initial wait, but he did apologize for it. At the end of our meal, he brought over a massive dessert with 8 spoons. He apologized again for the initial wait and said it was on the house as compensation. So while they started off on my bad side, they came through at the end and won us all over. read more

I had the Kodiak chicken, but unfortunately it was dry and required extra sauce. The side salad was delicious and the pizza was decent. Ended up walking to the waitress area while they're all chit-chatting and began to get it myself until our waitress finally handed them to me and I brought them to our table. Have always had a great experience at this location until last night. But have always been there in the afternoon when it was not busy. Last night I had flat beer and cold wings. Manger said "Sorry we got swamped with customers." If your staff can't handle a full restaurant and give good service, it is the managers fault. When I talked with her she did not even seem to care, although I was the 5th person to complain that I saw. The table beside us finally asked for their food to go because they had waited so long. Not terrible but could definitely use some more flavor (seasoning maybe?). Salads were huge, they could give you half of the size and you would still be satisfied. We had the blackened chicken pasta, extremely bland and definitely not blackened. They didn't have prime rib even though it's on their menu, so my husband ordered the ribs. Good just not great. We started off sitting in bar area. Had a polmagranite martini which was perfectly mixed and chilled. For the appitizer we had the baked parmigian crab dip. It comes with warm garlic toast wedges. I crab in the dip was much more noticeable w/o using the bread. When we wanted to move to a table, we where told we had to pay tab at bar and couldn't take it to table. My wife ordered the salmon with a Caesar salad and steamed broccoli. The salmon had a fantastic honey-teriyaki sauce and it was cooked perfectly. I had the crab stuffed shrimp and steak with house salad and loaded baked potato. Salad had egg bacon bits almonds along with normal fixings. Home made balsamic dressing was tasty. I ordered the steak med. rare( is there another way?) but came well done. Manager came over, apologized and re-fired the steak to perfection. But when eating the crab stuffed shrimp, watch out for the shrimp tails(can't see because of all the crab dressing. Over all service and food was above average. Since when do places of business allow their bartenders to tend to their texts and phones while "working"? I was never asked if I liked my meal ( which I didn't), if I'd like anything else, water! etc. The Mobb salad was just ok, with soggy onion rings, or whatever they call them, and the soups was just ok as well. Nothing aggravates me more than receiving a pen that doesn't work to sign my credit card statement . On my travels, this is the second time I've been to this chain and it is what one would expect for a chain. read more

I was in town for a Honda Goldwing convention and had the pleasure of dining at Copper River on two nights. The place was packed both nights. One night, we ended up eating at the bar just so we did not have to wait for a table. The portions here are huge and the salads are excellent. I had the Caesar with grilled chicken, and it was delicious. All salads come with a soft croissant that has been drizzled with some devilish honey/butter/cinnamon concoction that makes it worthy of a decadent dessert. Not a good experience. We are local and very disappointed. Service was not there today. Took quite awhile to get our lunch and then our server was too busy to come back to our table. No drink refills while eating. She finally came back after I was almost finished eating. She handed me a warm unsweetened ice tea with lemonade, but it tasted strange. Very attractive restaurant both inside & out. Large, varied menu. I had the Tupelo almond chicken wrap, that started out great, but somewhat lost it's taste as it went along - I think it just needed to be prepared better and with more of the dressing inside as the chicken was overdone - I would have asked for more dressing on the side, but our waiter was MIA. He did show up to give us our check, but never checked back with us during the meal. The person I was with had a burger, which he said was really very good. The fries were hot & well done, but nothing great. We also had some of the Copper River Reds, which is a type of deep fried onion - they were okay, but I wouldn't order them again; too much batter & not enough onion. Been a couple of years since I have been here. House side salad is iceberg lettuce and pretty weak besides the egg, bacon, nuts etc they throw on there. The buttered/sugared croissants are deadly but great. The blackened salmon sandwich was delicious but a bit salty. Booth was a bit dirty. Too many other good restaurants in Spartanburg at same pricing level to warrant returning here. read more

Copper River is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. You will realize this when you pull up as it is always busy. The house salads are big and quite flavorful. My favorite is the hamburger, it's big enough for two to share, if you will? I would describe the place as a slightly upscale bar and grill. Overall, I have never been disappointed. read more
