My girlfriends and I had a girls' night here last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived, everything about the experience was wonderful. Here's everything we ordered (and honestly, every single thing was delicious): Gem Caesar, Croquettes, Tuna Crudo, Ribeye, Mushrooms, Pommes Frites, Quiche, Cookies, the Coconut Cake Box, and a few bottles of wine. Our server, Star, truly lived up to her name. She was incredibly attentive, had a great personality, and was so much fun. She matched our vibe perfectly and made the whole evening even more enjoyable. I'm already planning to stop back in today for coffee and more dreamy coconut cake, it was that good. Post my Sunday walk w/ a friend I stopped to try this place out. A bit of a line as the setup doesn't have the best flow but I waited. When I finally made it to the register, (which is 3 cases back from the register, so you better remember everything you saw and want bc it's very annoying for all involved to go back to cases 1-2 to point out what you want) I had a gentlemen in front of me that needed a moment to go back to case 1 and figure out what he wanted. I had to double the same while answering the order takers questions. Not sure who can afford to come here so often as the prices are extreme. $15 for a plastic box of coconut cake for 1 person or maybe 1 and half, nope. As for as the food I ordered; cinnamon roll w/cream cheese icing, pecan roll, a hazelnut pecan twist, 2 French toast casseroles (they look like muffins), a ham and cheese on a croissant and a small Americano. My coffee came out quick and they call your name and bring it to you. I got my food to go so I had to double back to find the waitress yelling my name walking thru the dining room. So I head to the coffee station and my name is called again, for what I assume is the remainder of my order. I'm handed this cute bag filled with white boxes. I assume everything is inside the bag and drive home. To my surprise, my ham and cheese sandwich was not included in any of the boxes in the bag. I should have driven back but I'm deep in Fort Mill so that did not happen post a 4 mile walk in the humidity and light rain. Sally B. 61315 May 18, 2026 Started by loving this place's takeout -- good onion soup (depending on who's cooking it. . .or their mood. . .) & good/ok quiche. However, I can't justify $16 for a bowl of very salty onion soup no matter how good it might be (& there are a couple other local restaurants whose onion soup is just as good if not better). Slices of quiche fairly priced but just ok, not great. So we took a chance and ordered the Chicken Coq Au Von. It was a bust! Dry chicken, 2 strips of carrot, and spoonful of mashed potatoes seemingly thrown in as an after thought & a smear of gravy/sauce (like the bottom of the barrel). We called & spoke to manager, Mike about it, and he swore we were the first to ever complain about it (really??). I also told him the sauce had obviously pretty much boiled away, we got the bottom of the batch (it was after 8pm) and maybe that was why it was SO salty. Mike insisted that "all sauces were made to order" -- uhhh, REALLY? It was picked up after 8pm on Mother's Day which is the biggest revenue day for restaurants in the U.S. (fact). I pressed the issue, and at least he e-mailed a $15 gift card which we quickly used the next day towards quiche & onion soup. This week we decided to give the Chicken Coq Au Von a 2nd chance since Mother's Day was behind us. We even brought up that fact with the woman taking the order over the phone. She neglected to tell us that there was a huge festival going on at the Ballantyne Bowl where they are located and that every restaurant was jammed. My husband drove around for a while just trying to find a place to park. Oh, BTW, I also ordered a side of their mushrooms to round out the Coq Au Von. At $18 we expected a substantial amount of mushrooms. Surprise -- check out this photo -- and those few tablespoons of 'shrooms were in a TINY box! And the chef put too much vinegar in them. Downright insulting! I'll just end this with the fact that my husband added a $4 tip to the bill even though it was just a takeout order. I was suspicious of everything at that point and had him call the restaurant for an itemized bill. The woman quickly e-mailed it to us and guess what? Whoever rang it up saw the "4" as a "9" and wrote $9 in as a tip for a small takeout order. He called that in as well. We'll see tomorrow if the $5 refund is pending as well as the $18 charge for a few spoonfuls of mushrooms which the manager claimed were "special locally grown"! Again, I say HUH?? The place is a ripoff, not going back! Too bad, they do sell excellent Banana Pudding. read more

Such a great dinner at Brasserie Copain. Just steps away from the Ballentyne Hotel, this French themed cafe hit the spot. While the steak was definitely the most popular choice amongst colleagues, members at the table also enjoyed escargot and other salads for appetizers and salmon, salads and perfect cooked shrimp for dinner. The French onion soup was incredibly flavorful and texturized. The steak, while a bit overcooked for a medium rare request was still delicious and the frites were AMAZING. I would go back for the fries alone. We also couldn't stop looking at dessert counter. We were too full to indulge but will certainly be going back the next time we find ourselves in Charlotte. Copain is a sweet little place tucked inside the Ballantyne Bowl. The space is beautiful, clean, and allows for indoor and outdoor dining. Their lattes are always delicious and the variety of pastries, baked goods, and other treats are plentiful. The raspberry croissant was not as buttery as I hoped, however the fresh raspberry and sweet cream were a lovely and light touch. The mushroom quiche was ok. Not super impressive. While I have not had lunch or dinner there yet, I do look forward to another visit soon for one or both of those meals! read more

Brasserie Copain has serious potential -- you can feel it the moment you walk in. The French theme is charming, the music is très on‑brand, and the whole place has that lively "almost‑Paris" energy. The food is still finding its rhythm. The coq au vin leans more deconstructed than deep and soulful, and the mussels were okay but could use a little more flavor firepower. But the Colline Fossiles Chardonnay? Absolutely delicious. Bright, textured, and easily the standout of the night. Three months in, they're clearly building something special. Does it transport me straight to Paris? A little -- but there's still room to grow. I'll be back to see how they evolve. read more

I came here with my mom, sister, and brother in law for dinner. I was blown away by how incredible the experience was considering how new the place is (it just opened in January). The staff were so friendly and professional. They were able to answer any questions about the menu with a breadth of knowledge. The space is small, but well designed + there is lovely outdoor seating. All the food is of the highest quality and often locally sourced. I was especially happy when ordering a slightly obscure cocktail that they not only were able to make it, but it was one of the best Bee's Knees I've ever had (and I'm quite picky with them). I'd definitely come back! They are constantly updating and refining the menu so it'll be a great new experience next time I'm in town! read more

Came here for a treat after lunch. The space is beautiful. A couple of gluten free items in the case including a chocolate chip cookie and banana nut muffin. Coffee came as 8oz which seems so small after all my grandes at Starbucks, but I got a caramel latte and it was delicious. The gf choc chip cookie was good too. read more

Such a delightful experience at Brasserie Copain! Gorgeous store front, inviting employees, beautiful on the inside. The choices of pastries, food, & desserts, along with coffee, lattes, & alcohol (think champagne, wine). I had the roast beef sandwich with mixed lettuce salad as my side (was so excited I didn't get a picture). Seating is "family" style at the tables, but they have some booths & you can sit at the bar. It feels like a quaint bistro then seated and obviously designed by a man because there is nowhere to put a handbag except behind you or on the floor. Easily solvable by putting some type of hook on the metal post that holds up the table. The night we came the mussels and the frisee salad were not available. Could still have the frisee with a different lettuce type. The menu is limited. Wish they had the sandwich menu available or pieces of quiche as well. The French Onion soup was like who spilled the whole shaker of Morton's into this soup. I am the type that loves salt and puts it on even if salt is already on the dish. The one ppl say there's already salt on the dish. Gruyère is a big glob and definitely need a fork to eat it. Generally I wouldn't say anything but it was too much. The soup is made fresh daily. This batch had been made that day so didn't want to sub a new bowl. The Caesar was very basic and the croutons were slivers of bread like literal slivers of the crust. From a size perspective, definitely a French portion. Let the manager know that it was too salty and they were definitely accommodating. Customer service is 5 star. They subbed dessert for the soup. The banana pudding was gone before the photo could be snapped. It was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend. We will return and definitely try something else. read more

Meh! We were excited to try based on a friend's recommendation. Unfortunately, the baked goods and coffee were Panera quality with a mark up for French branding. Of particular note was the almond croissant that was stuffed full of an overpowering combination of almond extract and sugar. Yet another chain experience in The Bowl. read more

My wife and I love this place! The service and food are top notch. We recently went for a date night...my wife got the duck and I got the steak and frites...both amazing. For dessert you get to walk up to the case and pick what you want. There are so many delicious options that we had to go back a few days later just to try the things that we didn't get on our date night. Everything is so good, but we HIGHLY recommend the raspberry croissants....best croissants we've ever had! read more

This is quite a find. It is sort of a cross between a French bakery and a French restaurant. It is cozy yet bustling. The food is delicious and so were the desserts. We had the rack of lamb, scallops, the mushrooms and the frites (cooked in duck fat). Desserts were a raspberry pistachio tart (amazing), a chocolate tart, and a chocolate trifle. It was all perfect - the service was outstanding too. They even made a couple custom mocktails for us - even though they have none on the menu. The place is gorgeous! Very French in every way from the black & white tiled floor to the French music. The mushroom quiche was delicious. The chocolate croissant was the best I've had in Charlotte especially being heated to melt the chocolate. My only complaint is that the menu is very meat oriented. There are few Vegetarian options. Wonderful place if you can't get to Paris for the real thing! Brasserie Copain opened a while back and we have stopped in a couple of times in the morning for pastries and coffee and have also picked up a baguette or two along the way. The pastries we tried were quite good and the coffee was quite satisfying. And, as for the baguettes, they were quite good as well with a nice crust and not too chewy on the inside. But, the purpose of this review is to speak about our dinner experience last night. From the moment we entered, we were treated as welcome guests by the very attentive staff. Each and every staff member we interacted with was friendly and appeared to truly care about our dining experience - they were not, as many restaurant workers are, just checking off a box on a "how to treat customers" list. The manager stopped by a couple of times during the evening in a not at all intrusive manner. He let us know a bit about the history of the restaurant group and was quite expressive when boasting, righteously, about his staff. Eva S. was our server and she was an absolute delight! She was quite solitious and full of information about both the food and wine menus. Best of all, she fully understood our request for a more leisurely style of dining and we were not at all rushed in an effort to turn tables even though the restaurant was quite full - inside and out. When, not if, we return, we'll certainly ask to be seated in her section, if she is working at that time. Oh, right, we went there for dinner and here I am now, not having even mentioned the food. But, wait a moment, please, as I must first speak to the drinks we ordered. My wife had a Chateau Des Cedres Sauvignon Blanc which was delightful. How delightful, you may ask? Delightful enough for us to get a full bottle to take home. I had a very dry Grey Goose martini which was well made, very dry as requested, and substantial. Additionally, with my main meal, I had a glass of Domaine Dupre Pinot Noir which was quite excellent. Early on, Eva provided water and some bread. The water was refreshing and the bread lasted through the meal (more on that later). For appetizers, we had an order of escargots as well as a half-dozen Huitres (NC oysters). Put simply, both were amazing. The escargot were delightfully garlicky and the oysters were sublime. For main courses, we had Canard a L'orange confit and Moules Frites. The duck was cooked perfectly, as ordered, and was fall off the bone delicious. Eva had suggested a side with it and my wife asked for mashed potatoes; which, as it turned out, was exactly the right choice. I don't believe either of us have even had such buttery smooth and creamy potatoes. The mussels were plentiful, nicely sauced, tender and quite delicious. All, and I mean all, of the flavorful sauce was mopped up with the remaining bread. So, let me close by reiterating that the management, the waitstaff, the kitchen staff, and the food and drink were all quite superb; so, if you are looking for excellent food, in a relaxed and friendly environment, Brasserie Copain could very well be for you. I should start and end with the $16 onion soup. It was awful. More salt in the soup then in a salt mine. And I always salt my food. Also, I've never had red onion soup before. Maybe the chef should go to Café Monte to see what onion soup should taste like. The sandwich I had was OK. It was $22 and that too was ridiculously priced. On top of the exorbitant pricing you had to wait online to order your food. It cost me $45 for lunch for a horrible onion soup and an OK, small, roast beef sandwich on a very good piece of bread. I've been in Charlotte for 18 years and my dinner experience here was in my top 5! Everything we had was on point. We ordered amazing cocktails, a cheese plate, the most amazing scallops, and lots of other dishes each topped the prior! That atmosphere is that of a bistro with fun lighting. Love the concept of this place and the fact that we have a legitimate bakery nearby. Had a delicious duck confit sandwich there. My friend had the onion soup that was very flavorful but sadly too salty. The pastries seem pricey compared to competitors like Tous Les Jours. Love that their breads are made of whole wheat, and have purchased different loaves to take home. My disappointment stems from them always being a bit over baked all the time and therefore dry even just after purchase. Seems like an easy fix. Would love to see breakfast breads that are just bread with dried fruit and nuts in it, not sweet breads like they sell on their store shelves. Really want this place to succeed and want to keep going there, just hoping they improve some of these shortfalls. read more
