Coral Gables has achieved a New Balance- a balance between poor service, unappetizing food and rip off prices. The stench and site of musty 70s style carpet ruins the picturesque view of the harbor. Instead the ambiance shouts that of an outdated retirement home. The restaurant, while large, has lots of empty and awkward spaces. When I arrived in the restaurant, one of the first signs that I could tell that things would not work out was the site of people not finishing their entrees. Numerous people had plates where less than 10 percent of the food was eaten. I excused myself from our to go to the restroom and I saw that the Yelp average was 2 1/2 stars. I had to readjust my expectations. Unfortunately, Coral Gables could not even meet the low expectations of a 2 1/2 star yelp average. While my waitress was reasonably friendly, the food was extremely slow to come out. The waitress even had to notify us by saying: "the food will be out shortly." The hostesses seemed aloof and the other waitstaff were students with summer jobs who could seem to care less that they were serving a low quality product. I ordered the Perch sandwich. For $12, the sandwich only came with 4 pieces of perch. Even if the quality was high, I felt like the price was a rip off. The perch and potato chips were of reasonable quality but were ruined by over-seasoning. This made the meal unappetizing if borderline inedible. The perch was extremely salty. The "artisan" bun tasted like rubber and looked like a "dogs" toy. Maybe I was unlucky in that I ordered the wrong thing from the menu, but this was not the case. My girlfriend ordered the "white fish" for a whopping $20. The piece of fish was extremely huge but it was apparent that the fish was of very low quality. My girlfriend reported to me that it tasted extremely fishy with an awkward rubbery texture. She ate around 10 percent of her meal. In terms of quality-price combination, paying $20 for an inedible combination is a joke. I observed people at the table next to us eating hardly anything from their plates. They blamed the large portion size. The guy at the table next to us had a ridiculously large bowl of pasta. Quantity does not always translate into quality. All in all, this is a place that we will look on and joke about as a token failure. Coral Gables is a place where you can meditate to the smells of a 50 year old stale restaurant and a slow paced borderline inedible meal. All while your money magically disappears. read more

We stopped here with a party of 8, around 7:30. We were initially told it would be a 30-40min wait. When it hit 45min we came to ask how much longer they thought it would be. The hostess response? "I honestly don't know.". We were then told, almost without a care, that we could take our names off the list if we wanted to. If that's the case, then we should have been told that from the moment we arrived!! We had 4 children with us and it wasn't easy to keep them entertained (while they were hungry) only to be told, after waiting for 45min, that they now didn't know when we would be seated! Not only that, but my husband and brother went to the bar to grab a couple of beers while we were waiting. They sat at the bar for damn near 10 minutes and not a single person approached them and asked if they wanted anything. To top it off, both bathrooms were completely out of paper towel. It was our first time in Saugatuck and the experience wasn't all that great. We will visit the town again, because it's quite beautiful, but we won't ever come back to this restaurant. read more

Coral Gables is definitely a "bar" destination and not a "dinner" destination. They have several levels of decks outside. During the day they had a fun band and people were dancing. The crowd was mixed, it was interesting to see some "older" folks getting wasted, like they missed out on college spring break or something. People were dancing and taking shots along w/ their blood pressure pills and rubbing on aspercreme after dancing. At night there is a "club" atmosphere inside. Bartender was really friendly and had some creative drinks. The crowd was mostly locals since it was a Sunday night.There were some literal GRANDPAS dancing their asses off and macking on the young girls dancing. It was a riot to watch. The bar seemed fine, but the drinks are small and a little bit pricey. Our group of 12 sat down to eat after a few drinks at the bar, had to arrange our own tables in the dining room to seat us all, and then waited something around an hour and a half for our food. The environment is sterile, no music and little ambiance. The waitress was nice, one of the foreign bus boys was very nice, but the other staff were surly and uninterested. The place is poorly run and understaffed. The food was unexceptional, but not inedible. It feels like we wasted a Saturday afternoon here. We will not be coming back. read more

I took my family here for lunch on a beautiful summer day recently. We sat on the patio, which was full. We ordered our food and the food took OVER AN HOUR! We asked the waitstaff why it was taking so long to get our food, their response was "when the patio gets full, orders get backed up in the kitchen and they can't handle all the orders coming in." If they can't handle the extra customers on the patio, why open it then? There's a lot better places to go in Saugatuck for lunch/dinner. read more

Ordered the "Lightly breaded" Lake Perch. It was over breaded. Chicken Marsala was way too thick in cut. Supposed to be thin cut. Rice ans sauce was just OK. Drinks were good. Service was very average. Table was dirty. Had to ask to clean it. Price $$. Just ok place. read more

We had the mozzarella with tomatoes was bland and dry and the coconut shrimp was good but only due to the orange dipping sauce. Terrible experience and food! We wish we read a the reviews before entering. I went with 2 friends on a Friday afternoon for a bite to eat. We wanted to sit on the patio. The hostess who greeted us appeared "out of it", she mumbled to herself, and laughed... a sign we should have walked out. When we were seated, it took awhile for our waitress to take our drink order, then longer for the food order. My friend ordered the quinoa veggie wrap. 16 hours later, at 4 am, she became violently ill, vomiting and diarrhea. We happened to tell the owners of the B&B we were staying at, they told us Coral Gables needs to be shut down, as there are always complaints. My friend will be reporting her illness to the health department. read more

Went here on a Thursday evening. It was a cool but beautiful day and we took advantage of sitting on the deck overlooking the chanel. It was not very busy considering it was dinner time and we were seated quickly. Our server arrived promptly and returned with our drinks shortly. The food was good, nothing spectacular. I ordered the Gable burger and it was tasty. My girlfriend had the veggies and rice and that was good. The entertainment provided was a gentleman playing guitar on the other deck. He covered Toby Keith songs and sounded okay. Not my thing but he provided an atmosphere. Service wasn't bad but she seemed indifferent. I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, but I can imagine it is not nearly as peaceful when busy. I would recommend if you get the chance to sit on the deck and watch the boats on the chanel. read more

The staff & management at Coral Gables was phenomenal! They were understanding, accommodating and went out of their way to make sure our experience was great. We had a large party of about 65 people, and they gave us private room space. They even allowed us to store our cake their ahead of time and helped us set it up. They did an excellent job taking orders efficiently, quickly serving drinks and keeping the refills coming, as well as getting out all of our meals quickly. There weren't any frills on the food in terms of presentation, but I heard the steak was good from others in my group. I had the chicken marsala, a large portion came out and it was delicious. Finally, they kindly allowed us to have our own DJ there, and were very flexible with the times he could come in to set up and play. The dance floor, light system and large bar was perfect to accommodate a group of our size. It was a public space, but we didn't have any issues with that. It made it fun as the night went on to have other fun party-goers join us on the dance floor! They also had a great back patio where you could go to get fresh air and watch the boats go by on the water. read more

Dude. Great place for pan fried perch and a view. Try the pan fried perch with a craft beer and sit outside watching over lake Kalamazoo and all of the boats parked and moving around. i see the overall rating for this place is already 2 stars and thats just about right. The only thing this place has going for it is the outdoor seating on the water front, the extra start for a total of 2. staff was rude to us and other patrons as if we were "bothering" them. i overheard a waitress complaining about patrons that "everytime she turns around people ask for 29 more things". ugh...you're in the wrong business honey... saugatuck has been nothing but a great experience with the people and staff at other places I'm really suprised to see how grumpy staff are here. My suggestions dont eat here just order a simple drink like a beer to have minimal interaction with staff and enjoy the outdoor deck and view. the inside is run down and straight outta the 70s. read more

One of our favorite places! I don't know what this place is like on a weekend night when, I gather it gets pretty drunk out. On a Thursday afternoon it has a great outdoor deck to sit by the river, watch the boats motor by, and have a cold beverage. The mixed drinks are very good and the beers are cold. Well we never got to eat here so I'm not sure if this review is fair. I went there with my two kids, ages 14 & 16. My 14 yr old was not super hungry and asked for a kids menu. She was promptly shot down by our waitress saying she needed to be 10 to eat off that menu. Now I would understand that had it been busy, it was a quiet Monday evening. Some teens are picky. My son frequently orders 2 items on a kids menu, which end up costing more than an adult item. So for me that was bad customer service. We ate at Butler instead with our bill being $81. The bar staff was extremely rude upstairs inside and the DJ was even ruder! Prior to a big wedding party arriving it was a fun atmosphere, the bare tender was friendly and so was the DJ. I'm giving this place 5 stars, even though I can totally understand all the lower star ratings. We walked by this place on a Sunday and it was a madhouse. However, my high rating is based on visiting the place on a quiet Monday mid-afternoon. We parked literally right in front, walked right in and were seated at a nice table out on the balcony. We ordered drinks and appetizers - the appetizers were better than expected (based on all the reviews) and we just sat there eating and drinking and chilling and soaking in the ambiance and watching the boats go by. I only went once and food was just okay. But my seating was right by the window and I could look over the river, it was very nice! The service was also very good. The actual restaurant is great for families. There are several different bars in the building and even a piano bar. It is the best place for drinks (from all that I have heard of). I thought the food was okay but it wasn't grand. Kids do love the place though. And families will find it a fun place to be no matter what time of day. Here's the thing about Coral Gables. I'd recommend it...if you were there on a lazy day without much of a crowd and weren't to demanding. I don't know how it stacks up other days and other ways, but that was how we found it. You certainly can't beat the location, right on the water, with a deck so you can sit outside. It wasn't crowded, so I don't know exactly how to rate the service, maybe OK. Our server was young and he was nice enough, but not too attentive considering there were maybe 5 tables occupied in the whole place. We had drinks, and this is the one harp I'll make - my beer was flat and stale. Normally I'd just send it back and get something else, but I just decided to drink it. It was cold and I was thirsty, but freshness needs to be checked, especially when you have just a few draft offerings. My girlfriend and I shared a perch sandwich and I gotta say, it was pretty dang good. I mean good as in really good - fresh fish, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, good tartar sauce. The flat fries (think exactly that, flattened fries) I don't know to rate. Not the best, but different and we liked them enough that we ate them all. They need salt and pepper though. We saw a few other items come out to other people, so I think you will do okay with the food here. Surprised at some of the reviews about the food. Terrible service. Sat at the bar for 20 min. One out of the 4 of us got served. It took forever for 2 of us to get our sangrias which were awful. I asked for another drink after that. The bartender kept cussing and telling us how he was by himself at the bar with no support. We finally got our drinks while our table was ready. My husband asked for a drink at the table and was told he might not get it because the bar was swamped. I felt like I was on an episode of bar rescue. They really need to get it together! read more

Disappointed... We stopped on our way through town, it's obviously a cool atmosphere with views and live music lots of gorgeous boats docked out back but the food is terrible. Chef is asleep at the wheel. I had the chicken sandwich which had gristle, the bun was dry but the marinate came through... bacon was floppy and lettuce was wilted. I ate it but the fries tell you a lot. The frozen bag potatoes were the greasiest I have had in years and that is saying a lot. Like no way to explain it. My husband had the fish "perch" dinner. Fish was good no seasoning but the 3 new potatoes and asparagus were literal tasteless. I mean no salt or pepper or butter like nothing. Dry as a bone and zero style. It's a shame because with the history you would think someone's special recipes would shine through. The guy singing was the best part but I wish we ate next door at the hotdog stand. Labor Day, The food was excellent! The tower of rings and chicken wings were phenomenal. My wife got the chicken carbonara bowl which was awesome with a taste of BACON.
