We stopped in on a warmer afternoon and opted to sit out on their patio in back. It was shaded and it really wasn't too warm. I like the cozy feel of their patio...no traffic going by which is nice. I really liked the music they were playing out there. We started with drinks and ordered the Pig and Fig bruschetta for a starter. Our drinks came quickly as did our bruschetta, but to my surprise it was literally one piece of sliced bread with some toppings on it cut into 3 pieces. Definitely wasn't expecting that. It was really just okay...we didn't even finish it. For my entrée I ordered the Pollo Pesto Panini. It's sous vide chicken, mozzarella, pesto, roasted red pepper, balsamic reduction and parmesan. It was delicious!! So refreshing and tasty! The Panini bread was perfectly toasted and remained that way throughout the meal. Never got soggy at all. My dining partner ordered the Rosie Panini which had an Italian themed filling. I was told it was very good as well! We also ordered a side of macaroni and cheese to split. This was very good as well...creamy except for the cheddar cheese they put on top which kind of formed a hard crust of sorts but we pushed it to the side. Our server was fairly attentive but seemed as if he forgot about us once he delivered our sandwiches. I'm not a quick eater by any means and I had to go inside to find him to pay our bill when we were done. I really will be back again to get that Pollo Pesto Panini and enjoy the patio. read more

Dining at Corkscrew the other day solidified one thing for me... that my two favorite things in this world are wine and cheese. I truly cannot imagine a more ideal meal than the one I had at Corkscrew. I ordered a red blend to drink and we got a cheese board and the fresh tomato bruschetta to eat. The wine was only $5 during happy hour and it was worth every penny. The bruschetta was $4 and the chefs really loaded that baby up with tomatoes, which I appreciate so much. I don't know much about cheese, but I thought the cheese board was fantastic as well. Our server could definitely tell that we are newbies to the wine and cheese bar scene, but he was very knowledgeable and helped us decide what to order. I was expecting this meal to be a lot more expensive and a lot less delicious, so I was pleasantly surprised. They could really step it up in the food dept with a chef-driven tapas menu and it would really elevate the experience. Much of the retail wine here is what you can find at major grocery/wine retailers for a much deeper discount, so I don't think the retail is exactly fair. My wife and I attended the Wine 101 Yelp Event which was located in the party room in the back. Out the window was a perfect view of the fire pit with people hanging around out there. Let me tell you, Zach (resident sommelier) is very knowledgeable about wine. There were 6 types of wine featured all served in the proper glassware: - a sparkling white (Brut) - 2 quite different types of Chardonnay (sweet and then dry); - 3 reds: Cabernet, a blend and one from Cotes Du Rhone In addition, there were roasted almonds, toasted bread points along with bleu and goat cheese to compliment the wine. All in all, it was an educational experience and well attended. I was not alone in not knowing the first thing about wine tasting. There were many questions and Zach had the answers! The husband and I popped in for our first visit for happy hour this evening. We both enjoyed our drinks (2 reds for me and 2 beers for him) along with a few food menu items. I was not impressed enough to buy a bottle of either though and my husband, while not especially descriptive, said he did like both of his beers. For drinks, we got the special Valentine's Day wine flight with complimentary truffles, the White Sangria, and a Manhattan. They were all great, but we especially enjoyed the wine flight! Tried the midtown location for the first time and were not disappointed, we're typically enjoying the patio at the Rockbrook store. We selected a lovely red from the shelves of selections and ordered truffle popcorn, smoked salmon and the three cheese plate to go with. I haven't tried the salads or the desserts but the flourless chocolate cake looks delicious. They also have a wedge wine club. For 29.99 you get a bottle of wine, cheese and baguette, invites to special events, monthly bottles and no corkage which is usually $5. Personally it seems a bit high. Blackstone, my new love! Corkscrew is one of the many new establishments in this new district. The Yelp event was a nice way to invite us in to experience the vibe. I arrived late but was able to form an opinion in the short time I was there. The wait staff seemed helpful and courteous, the beer on tap was ok, and the decor was warm and welcoming. I was pleased with it overall but I don't know that it's totally for me. Not dark enough. Needs some more of something I can't place my finger on. I'll have to try it again to see if it grows on me.
