This is the wort Corner Bakery I have ever been to. I made the mistake of coming here for the second time, and I got the chicken pomodori panini which was just awful. The chicken had hard pieces in it that you'd discover only after taking a bite. Not sure if it was bone or tendon but it was extremely unpleasant and unappetizing. I also tried the broccoli and cheddar soup with a side of baguette which ended up being a cheap dinner roll not a pierce of baguette like they used to do. After our flight and subsequent drive to our Laguna Niguel office, my coworkers and I decided to stop by Corner Bakery for lunch before our afternoon meeting. The restaurant was in a large strip mall near our office and though I've heard of this chain but I never had a chance to try it. You order and pay at the counter and look for a table or booth and wait for your food to be brought out. I opted for a breakfast entrée and ordered the Anaheim Scrambler. It consisted of three scrambled eggs with Applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, green onions and cheddar cheese, topped with avocado and served with oven roasted potatoes and toast. The food was brought out within ten minutes. The scrambled eggs was overcooked and tasted dry and the potatoes were ok. Also the food was not piping hot, more like warm. Comparing to other chain restaurants serving similar style food, I've had better food at the competitors. I guess I can say I've tried Corner Bakery and won't be itching to come back. read more

I stopped to eat at The Corner Bakery Café at 23702 El Toro Road in Lake Forest. The place was nice and clean. The cashier was nice and friendly. The server was super nice and friendly & made that all was as ordered. The very nice manager allowed me to take the photos. I ordered: The American Panini breakfast sandwich and also potato chips. The sandwich had; scambled eggs, smoked bacon, tomatoes, onions, avocado & cheddar on a toasted sourdough bread. It was very flavorful. The chips tasty I drank a Diet Coke to balance the meal. For dessert I ordered: The Lemon Bar topped with powdered sugar. It was delicious. I thanked the manager for me taking photos. I went outside to take the rest of the photos. Every once a while I swing by the Corner Bakery Cafe. They have pasta, panini and lots of good baked items. I'm not the biggest soup fan, but somehow I always got myself a serving of soup when i come here. You can get the Half and Half Combo with Sandwich and Soup if you want a little bit of both. You can pick any sandwich on the menu and pick a soup that's available for the day. It comes with a small bag of potato chips which I enjoy having with my soup. I'm a fan of very thick or dense soups so I got the loaded baked potato soup and Italian panini. You order up at the cashier and at given a number. They bring the food to your table when done. The food is usually pretty good over here and you leave satisfied. Try a baked item or dessert when here. The Maple Pecan Bar was amazing, try for yourself and hopefully you enjoy it too. read more

Slowest service I've experienced. Asked for blueberry pancakes didn't get any blueberries. Asked for my order to go and got my coffee five seconds after I ordered meaning before I left which was almost 40 minutes later I asked them to reheat my coffee. They advertised these so-called amazing blueberry pancakes. I ordered them. The pancakes were just average. So far, so meh .... It gets worse. The "blueberries" on were not really blueberries. Today is National Coffee Day. At 8:00 am, I walked up to counter to purchase a cup of coffee. Finally someone sitting in a booth told me that they have not brewed their coffee today because they are short on staff. I counted 4 staff members in the establishment. I was told to come back in an hour and I could place my order. How difficult is it to brew a pot of coffee in the morning when the business is open. I saw many customers pick up online orders. This is an amazing cafe! I went here yesterday with my dad. The food was absolutely fantastic! The chicken orzo soup was amazing the mac n cheese tasted very homemade. It was very filling and delicious. They also offer outdoor seating which was very nice that we didn't have to eat in the car. They also offer curbside pickup. We used to frequent the Corner Bakery Cafe in Huntington Beach at Bella Terra every weekend and at least once a week as we lived in the same complex as it; that location and the staff there are great. Unfortunately we did not have an experience at this location that would make us want to come back. My boyfriend had gone in at 7 PM to order for us and the staff immediately gave him dirty looks and whispered about how they close at 7:30 to one another, they were too pre-occupied about bringing in chairs to actually care about taking our order. Having worked in customer service I know it sucks having someone come in close to closing time, but you still greet them and serve your patrons with a smile on your face. You don't make them feel unwelcome. Left without ordering anything just from their vibes. read more

Why does it seem like Corner Bakery is going downhill? It's so sad. I've visited a couple locations in the last 90'days and it's no longer a good go to spot. I recently visited the El Toro restaurant and it was not good at all. The front of the house, service from staff, and quality of food need improvement. It was dark and dirty, lots of extra staff standing behind the counter - there were dirty tables even though it wasn't busy. Customer service is awful- lots of socializing by the youngish girls behind the counter. It took almost 20 minutes for my to go small soup order. Again it wasn't busy. The two girls were not paying attention to my wait time. Apparently the delay was because they were waiting on the bread that goes with the soup. When someone finally sliced up a baguette, the gal at the counter just threw a piece in the bag .... unwrapped. For the overpriced amount I paid I wish they had wrapped it in something. Try not to go during lunch hour. The wait for a salad to go was over 25 minute if you order at noon. The portion size for a full size entree looks like a half portion. They are not consistent with their portion. It's a hit or miss and today is a miss. There is about 1 thin slice of chicken shredded, 1 teaspoon of avocado (half is brown), two inches of bacon (chopped), handful of lettuce (you can see the bottom of the container). Now that Mimi's Cafe in Laguna Niguel is out of business, this place seemed to fill the bill as far as being a bakery focused eatery. It's really not a bad place to eat, if you don't mind the dirty tables and slippery and messy floors. Sandwiches and soups are fairly decent, though quite pricey. Seating is not comfortable. The idea is to sit down, eat quickly and leave as soon as possible. Almost devoid of homey atmosphere. Not really a replacement for Mimi's, but you won't starve. Panera Bread is similar in format, but has slightly more panache. If you're looking for a comfortable, quiet restaurant that offers an extensive menu and friendly service, this would not be that place. On the other hand, it's not Taco Bell, so that's a plus. Three stars is about right although maybe on the high side. Really, more like two point five. read more

I do like the food and selection here. They have a great menu. I ordered a Ceasar's sad with chicken and I have never complained about the salads. The grilled panini sandwiches are usually just like the picture. Today was the first time I returned to a restaurant and asked them to re-make. There was vEry little tomato pesto and and a single small piece of spinach. The General Manager had taken my order and I took him aside to show him the sandwich. He said they would remake the sandwich and apologized. He came back out with a whole sandwich that looked very appetizing. I had ordered a combo. As someone who is deathly afraid of these dirty packs of nasty pigeons, I'm in hell here. This location is prime pigeon death fight watching. They swarm the patio and get really close to you and your food. I literally can't walk past the patio or sit on it bc the dirty rats with wings are everywhere. It's terrifying to me. So if you've got super sanitary conditions outside, how's the food? Eh ok I guess. They have too many calories for too little and no options outside of a scoop of tuna fish salad to add if you're pescatarian and don't eat meat. I'm fine with no protein in that instance. What a nice meal. Actually, because of the size of the portions 2 meals became 4 and all were delicious. The southwest salad entry size is big enough for 2 people. It was fresh and tasty and big. Really very nice. The uptown turkey sandwich served on a baguette is terrific especially when for a dollar more they give you some extra avocado. And the side salad or chips really makes a real treat. Because we are a member of their program we received a cold soda free with the meal. All was great and was made even better because of the help we received in ordering by the cashier Vanessa. She deserves a lot of praise for her help and positive attitude throughout. Ordered my food ahead of time to save on time, came in to pay for my food in line, stood in line (first social distancing for) by myself w no one taking my order for about 7 minutes, eventually started working on my phone waiting for someone to show up at the counter, when someone does they don't call me over they just stand there. It's Mike, so I get told my the ladies behind me "I think he's ready for you" and not himself. I go up to pay for my food (total of 20 min have gone by since I ordered) he proceeds to walk around and then come back to the register and tells me it's gonna be 10 minutes. I remember when this particular Corner Bakery opened and I have stopped by over the years and enjoyed the feeling of intimacy as one can encounter at a coffee house or cafes which sometimes are found in bookstores. Also, each time I have gone to this " Corner Bakery" over the years, I have encountered as you enter the restaurant, the pleasant smells wafting from the kitchen, identifying the various foods being prepared for the day. The ambiance and the foods have always been part of its charm. But today, it felt as if "those days are long gone". The scent throughout the store was the smell of trash. I keyed onto that as I went towards the back and could smell the intense smell of trash emanating from one of the doors that were across from the bathrooms. Everywhere I looked, there were scratches on the tables, the chairs-even the wood trim around the windows! The upholstery which compose the booths were also worn and a bit tattered. The women's bathroom was fairly clean, but rust was overtaking the bottom of the sink. When I ordered my food, the woman behind the counter was cheerful and pleasantly took my order. I had asked for a water glass, yet, when I looked at the soft drink machine, it was a challenge to figure out which button was the "water" button as it was not marked. (I did find it though). I ordered the Chicken Pompodoro panini sandwich with a cup of chicken noodle soup. The sandwich was warm-not hot -and the soup should have been called "noodle soup". The soup was also warm but too salty. Overall, the entire restaurant looked tired. It desperately needs to be renovated and some bold new dishes added to the menu. I am sorry that time has taken its toll on this restaurant. Hopefully, management is aware and will take action soon. If not, I am afraid I will not go back even for coffee as the smell was such a huge detractor. Had breakfast this morning at the Lake Forest El Toro restaurant. It was horrible. I waited 7 minutes to order our food, even though there was no one in line. When we received our food the eggs and potatoes were cold and avocado was brown. The pancakes were good but had no syrup and had to wait several minutes to get that. The restaurant was dirty. If I could give ZERO stars to this establishment I would. DO NOT COME HERE. Inside and out- this restaurant is disgusting, not well maintained, it appears as if there is nobody working to clean and keep it sanitary. Nobody cares. Aside from that, it took over 30 minutes (during a slow time) to receive our food. Kayla and Yolanda were the only positive part of this restaurant. They deserve a promotion. Food was left on 6/7 tables outside which birds were eating on. YES, multiple (5) birds were on one table eating out of the plates, there were napkins thrown on the floor and most of the booths and tables inside as well. There was nowhere to sit. Customers were cleaning their own tables and complaining to the manager but he put his arms up in the air and explained there was nothing he could do. There is a cage on the ground outside in place with food to catch birds, or feed stray cats I'm not sure. The cats would keep the birds away better than the cage. The birds will not come if there is no food left outside and everybody is efficient in cleaning their area. From the looks of it, I should have read the prior reviews before coming here because clearly it has only gotten worse. HUGE changes need to be made. read more
