Every time i come here i remember why i never visit this corner bakery. Their always extremely slow. Why does it take 10 minutes to get my coffee .. oh that's right because they forget and don't even apologize. The employees are rude. My food is always cold, ordered an egg sandwich my cheese was stone cold and my eggs were too. If you don't want to work here then don't but don't half a**your job. I am done coming here. LUV IT!!! My family and I came here and were treated like royalty. The service was great and the food de-lish. The staff seemed to get along very well, place was super clean. I work at the Macy's in Horton Plaza and the restaurant is about a 90 second walk away which makes it very convenient for a lunch break. Several of my co-workers recommended the place so I went in and had a nice lunch. I ordered the Carbonara and it was very good. I'd say from the time I ordered to the time it got to my table was about 10 min. Not bad at all. I look forward to my next lunch there. read more

Horrible service! Ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup and took them 20 minutes to serve and when i started my first spoon, it was already cold. Went back to the counter to replace it and asked why it took them so long to serve it, and was told "there's another customer ahead of you". I said I am the only customer here and the restaurant is empty and your soup are all pre-cooked and the replacement bowl takes less than two seconds to fill up the bowl. Manager Marco was nice and told me that next time i come back, it's in the house. I don't even know if i wanna come back to that location! Ridiculous! Please don't give them your money. First I have to say that I am not a fan of Corner Bakery (UTC location) to begin with so my bad for even trying this one. I was going to a taping of Tonight in San Diego with a friend and we wanted to grab something to eat so we decided to dip in here. Second I have to say I love soup, I mean it's soup, you can't screw that up, right? WRONG! I ordered the chicken noodle and my friend got the tomato basil. When my bowl came out, right away it looked like sad, canned soup, but ok...maybe it taste good, Sadly, no. It was all broth and no chicken to speak of and maybe 5 noodles in the whole bowl. I took it back to the counter and asked if I could have something else because it's an hour from closing maybe it was down to the bottom. I'm willing to give them the benefit. This time I get the cheddar broccoli. I've had cheddar broccoli that was so thick you could hardly eat it because it seems like it was all cheese. Not at corner bakery, this was the most watered down soup I have ever had. Sad, sad, sad. I would have taken that one back too but why bother because I am 2-0 at this point so I eat it. I suppose there was broccoli in it, but it was so diced it could have been anything. It definitely wasn't even a stalk and I'm dead serious. And don't get me started on the cold, doughy bread that came with it. I was totally ripped off on soup. SOUP!! When Denny's has better soup than you, you have a problem. No slight against Denny' s, the one in Kearny Mesa btwn the 163 & the 15 has a very testy chicken noodle -not the one in Clairemont town square they have awful service-but I digress. I wish I had gone to Panera instead. The Wendy's that used to be in this spot was better. Yes, I said it. In their defense, the place was clean, the restroom was clean and the staff was nice when I asked for a different soup, but you go there for the food and I can't recommend the food when they can't even get soup right. read more

So I know the service here is slow but I thought ordering online to go might work out better. After all Panera, Chipotle and Specialties has got it down to a science, how hard could this be? Wrong. So Im standing around the bookcase for online pickups. There is no signage posted so you would assume all is as usual. Finally after 15 minutes (after my pickup time) I go up to the cashier, one was free the whole time and just standing around practically whistling. I asked about the order not sure if they were running behind etc. He goes to tell me the CC system is down (has happened every time I've eaten there - GET IT TOGETHER) and that cc's aren't being processed for online orders so you need to pay at the register. Me knowing full well - welp foods sitting on a table behind the counter - my food is probably cold. Yay. No worries - slide my card and have my food. I suggest they should maybe post a sign saying they are down and that you need to go to the register so people dont just stand around waiting and spend all day not knowing whats going on. He doesn't accept the suggestion with grace, or even just brush it off and keep going with his day. Nope - he decides to start an argument with me - with a slightly raised voice and attitude, stating well its only been down for an hour etc. I said, yes so you might have people standing around who should know this that way they can come up and get their food - jeez make an announcement or something. Nope - argues the same on repeat. I give him a look like you are crazy and the two women behind the counter proceed to mirror the look. I say whatever - so much for spending over a grand on your cookies for my sales calls - will happily spend elsewhere. For the kicker - as Im walking out a nice woman proceeds to ask me what he said and so I tell her - she looks rather unhappy and mentions she's been waiting a half hour. Customer service is not this man's forte. The fact that everyone heard the conversation and no one tried to fix it, even worse. Ironically it was also a slow afternoon, so to scribble on the back of receipt paper and tape it to the book case - apparently was too much effort. Worked in F&B for over 10 years. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch this afternoon to get some healthy food on a hot day. There was a wait which is definitely to be expected when you go anywhere downtown around noon to eat, so we waited patiently in line and then finally ordered our paninis. I had to ask if carrots were an option for mine because the girl up front just added chips without even asking if that's what I wanted. Totally minor and no big deal. We had a pretty hard time finding somewhere to sit so we sat in the "bar" seating area facing a blank wood wall right in our faces. We put our number on the edge of the table were we thought it would be obvious for the busy workers to see it fast. One of the food runners stood right next to our table for a good minute looking very confused, did a couple circles, still didn't know where he was supposed to drop off the order until finally he made another round about and saw us sitting there. I would have said something if I knew it was our order, but I didn't because it was wrong. The plates both had chips so I didn't think it was ours. He put the plate down, and I had to tell him I ordered carrots instead of chips, which he seemed annoyed about and double checked the ticket to make sure I was being honest. Again, not the end of the world. So finally we start eating....cold, soggy paninis that I just spent $24 on. One side had grill marks on them, but the other side was a complete soggy mess that seemed soaked in butter. My boyfriends panini was exactly the same. You're supposed to cook the whole sandwich, not just one side, and it being cold was very off putting. We were pretty grossed out and most likely won't come back or recommend this establishment to others. read more

Needed lunch to go at broadway and first corner. Ordered a small chicken noodle soup. It was mostly broth. It contained 3 pea sized pieces of chicken, 4 corkscrew pasta, and only a trace of any other items which were the size of a pepper corn. Can't put on their website survey as it requires a code to do so. So disgusted I threw it out with the container and bag! Never again! read more

We're a couple of tourists who stumbled on this charming little spot looking for a quick, informal breakfast and coffee. I was so pleased to find they serve oatmeal, as we are healthy eaters, but what impressed me most was the truly exceptional service we received. While there on my second visit, I noticed one of the staff making the rounds with customers, some clearly regulars, and speaking to them in an extraordinary kind and caring way. She clearly loves her job and wants to make everyone there feel comfortable and welcome. In fact, on both of my visits I observed all of the staff interacting in a friendly, helpful, and efficient manner with everyone who stopped by. Today, a washed-up looking bleach-blonde manager, "Lisa" told me, loudly, and in public, that I would not be served because I had, according to "Lisa", insulted the "Mexican heritage" of a cashier on a prior visit. Embarrassed, shocked but wanting to get to the bottom of whatever was going on, I asked her if we could speak in private. She refused, and continued, basically, calling me a racist-- in front of my son and any number of other people within earshot. I find the accusation almost comical. I speak Spanish. I just moved back from Mexico. My girlfriend is Mexican. I sing in a rock band in Tijuana. I'm in Mexico 2-3 days a week. I am well-versed in Mexican culture, religion, music, history, television and politics- and I admire the long-suffering Mexican people immensely. I have no idea what exactly I supposedly said to the cashier, and this "Lisa" wouldn't tell me-- instead choosing to continue berating me, against my wishes, in public. All I recall is that at an earlier visit I mentioned that I didn't want to order a drink because I needed to save money. I recall mentioning something to the effect that I'd just gotten news that my health insurance premium was going up, with deductibles, to about $1,500 a month thanks to Obamacare and in protest I was going to probably vote for Trump. I have no idea. But red-faced, prunish "Lisa" didn't care. She'd made up her mind. I guess CB won't serve you based on your political affiliation. read more

This is a new place down the street from my place of work. We have been here a few times and it is very fresh and delicious. I went today and was a little bothered due to the fact that every time I have gone in there to order lunch I have received a different answer regarding their Military Discount. I have asked and each time told something different. Today, I went again and asked for the discount since they gave it to me last time. I was told this time there is NO Military discount. They only discount given is to First Responders. I ordered a "Pick two" and the sandwich is usually really good. Today, it was not put together very well and barely any stuff on it. I kindly asked for them to remake or add some stuff to it and the manager came over and made me a new one. The Manager MELISSA ( VERY VERY SWEET LADY) brought out my new sandwich and refunded my whole lunch. I did not expect that at all. Shows how much they value their customers. I would for sure recommend this to anyone. The food is always fresh, yummy, and the Hibiscus Lemonade is amazing.....
