a bowl of soup with meat and noodles
    Anito P.

Hits the spot when you're craving soup and is the only thing in the area. Broth is tasty. BBQ pork slices are thin and fillings are small in wontons. I found a shrimp tail in my wonton soup and my coworker who ordered lemongrass chicken pho said it tasted more like duck meat. Hers was greasier than mine and she couldn't finish it. Hours are very short as they're open 11-3pm. I'm a soup lover so I'll probably be back eventually but prices are steep compared to the portion sizes.

My favourite sandwich is turkey with brie and cranberry which they had. The sandwich was massive and tasted amazing. It was packed, full pieces of cut Brie with an amazing seasoned bread. It was everything that I expected from my favourite sandwich, which was met. I was going to give 4/5 due to the price, but after thinking, I pretty much didn't eat much for dinner because of how full that I was from this sandwich, and thinking about what a touristy place Deep Cove is, and with the amazing views, I changed it to 5/5 since the price is justified. Definitely coming back if I am in the area - might be the best turkey, brie and cranberry sandwich that I've had.

We arrived right around 12:30pm, which I imagine was peak time, so all the tables were full and there long line to get inside. But the line moved fairly quickly so we only waited maybe 10-15 minutes. Once we placed our order, it probably took them another 10-15 minutes to prepare. There is a good selection of sandwiches to pick from, so it was difficult to decide, but I ended up ordering the La Foret Royal. The first thing they mentioned was that it could get cross-contaminated with meat, which I didn't mind because I'm not vegetarian/vegan. However, if I was vegetarian/vegan I would imagine it would've been a turn-off. I ate my sandwich in the park. I was starving after 2 hours on the water, but despite that, I thought my sandwich was so-so. It was certainly huge, and they are generous with the ingredients. But it didn't amaze me. I felt it was stuffed with so much ingredients, no single flavour really stood out for me. In fact, I took half my sandwich home, and when I re-baked it, I felt it had better flavour and texture at that time because their house-made bread was warm and slightly more crispy, and I could reduce the ingredients to better bite proportions. I liked they had a nice selection of chips and drinks. Staff were also very nice. Overall, I have mixed feelings. The place is a nice fit for Deep Cove. Sandwiches make a great picnic option and they fill a definite need. The sandwiches are a generous size, and could easily be split between two people. In terms of flavour, I didn't find it particularly special, but on the other hand, I enjoyed it much more when I reheated it at home. I'd be willing to try again to see if I picked the wrong item on this last visit

Today, being yet another "forgot to pack a lunch" days, I went ahead and ordered a Number 02 combo (Turkey). Order was delivered to my workplace via Uber Eats. Unwrapping the sandwich, I could tell that I was in for a treat. From the soft bun, to the fresh crisp veggies, and the portion size of their regular, I was already jonesing to take my first bite. On this particular sandwich, I opted for the extra additions of cucumber, onions, and Mack sauce. The veggies crunched beneath my teeth and I bit into the sandwich and the soft, textured bun ripped cleanly. This is a great combination of sensory experience in a tasty sandwich; the light flavours of the sauces mixing perfectly with the savoury/sweet Turkey meat? It was just on point. A hint of bacon flavour came through as this sandwich does include it, and the tomato shined just enough striking its perfect balance within. The guacamole was pleasant although not exactly flavourful, but added a nice creamy texture to compliment the sandwich overall, so no points lost. I'll always order to have avocado over not so I'm not complaining in the least. The overall combination of light and subtle, dare I say "clean" flavours, sat within a textural matinee of crunch, crisp, soft, squish, creamy, savoury, sweet, and salty? I'll definitely be ordering this one again. I also got a side of a water, and an Elmans Big Pickle. Not much to say about either besides they're what you'd expect them to be. Next time I order from Big Star, and there *will be a next time*, lll make sure to dine in, so I can get the whole package upfront. If their decor is anything like their dishes (clean, fresh, balanced, deliciously paired), they'll have a definite repeat customer as far as I'm concerned, not that they don't have me hooked already~! 10/10, will eat from again

The spacious layout makes it an ideal spot to gather with family, catch up with friends, or even meet with coworkers for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and relaxed, yet still has a lively buzz that makes it feel welcoming and energetic. Their drink menu is full of unique and delicious options, and the display of sweet treats is hard to resist. The food is consistently flavorful, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully prepared. Every bite was enjoyable, but the standout for me was the croissant--perfectly buttery, incredibly flaky, and absolutely irresistible. I could have eaten another one without hesitation! I tried two sandwiches: the Haida Hot, rated 4/5 and priced at $17.99, and the Haida Royal, rated 3/5 at $21.99. I also ordered a small pizza, the Haida Pizza, which was rated 3/5 and costs $16.99. Both sandwiches were good; the bread was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. They were a decent size and made neatly, the addition of hickory stick chips inside the sandwiches is a interesting touch. The pizza was okay, but for its small size, it would be best suited for a child to eat on their own. The size reminded me of the pizza that McDonald's used to offer, and at $17, I found it a bit steep. Overall, the service was good. The staff recommended the most popular items, which was helpful since it was my first visit to Haida. However, I do think the prices are a bit high for what you get.

A Lot of attention and care was put into the design of the place and it shows; neon lights and signs as well as the design of the wall art and a large padded booth in the corner that could comfortably seat a party of 6-8 hungry patrons. And, best of all the management make sure that the tables, floor and bathroom are sparkling clean. We order two of their specialty sandwiches... The Haida Hot and The Meat Lovers and washed them down with Delster (Non-Alcoholic Beer from Iran. The food was simple but good hearty and filling... The drinks were light and refreshing.
