Mediocre and very unprofessional service. All the waitresses weren't paying attention to their designated tables. It took us 20 minutes just to get our orders in. The staff was very nonchalant and did not take pride in their work environment, which places the managerial staff at fault for poor management and supervision. Take-out highly recommended. A special little place! The atmosphere is simple and cozy. The service is warm and friendly. And the food is just fantastic! There were so many intriguing items on the menu that we had trouble choosing. I went for the Portuguese French Toast with homemade maple pecan butter. My husband had the Boursin omelet. Great little (like literally) cafe. The food was delicious and owner (I assume) was awesome and on the ball for moving through the long wait list. Worth the wait for the food. Only complaint was waitress who was very nice but didn't refill water at all, didn't take our order for several minutes - please understand I used to wait tables, and know what it is like to be hit during a rush, so I am forgiving. It was the 10 minute wait to cash us out when she had our credit card and there were 20 people on the wait list. She seemed to be stalling. Don't hold it against the place. Great food. read more

It was a really bad experience overall for me and my family. Coffee was very light and probably the worst I have had. Food was oily and not well prepared. We tried their omelette and a couple of other things. Worst of all, we had to wait over 40 minutes before being served while people who got there before us got their food. We were visiting from California had an absolutely delicious breakfast here: portobello sampler, portobello omelette, Irishman omelette, kids egg/bacon/potato meal, coffee milk/chocolate milk, mint chocolate mocha, iced mint hot chocolate(basically an awesome milk shake), Vermont scramble, chocolate pancakes. Everything was perfectly cooked/prepared and all in our party were happy. Very reasonable prices. The place was full when we came for lunch but we luckily got a table as a group was just leaving. No reservations. Kids menu available. Lots of food per dish ordered. Everything we saw at other people's tables and coming out of the kitchen looked tasty. This is a more gourmet breakfast joint. Don't look for greasy spoon eggs and hash browns, but if you want something a little unique, this is your place. I got a scrambler served on Portuguese French toast with potatoes. Big serving sizes. The French toast itself was thick cut, lightly battered, and still very "bready." As a party of 1 at 115 pm today, the restaurant had only a few tables occupied. I sat at the bar in order not to tie up a table. I have food restrictions, but always try to make it as easy as possible for the server. First I asked if I could have a breakfast burrito with potatoes instead of the eggs and hold the cheese. I was told they have never done that before and she wasn't sure they could do it. Instead of asking the kitchen, she asked if I would like more time. Usually a server lets the kitchen say no when she doesn't know. She came back and I ordered the Mia Mia tacos and asked if I could substitute the eggs and sour cream with a few onions or spinach in my tacos, I was told she could hold the items, but I would be charged as side dishes. The worst part was not the charge or what she said, but rather HOW she said it and looked at me. It made me feel like it was all too much work for her. She could have offered to take my requests and ask the cook if that would work or what some options would be. Options that would be easy on them and work for me. I know my order may require some extra attention from the server so I always tip extremely well. Feeling grumpy, I walked out. Lunch was supposed to be a treat to myself, but instead I was made to feel like an inconvenience. Not sure if this is how they usually run their business or if it's just this particular cute young blonde, but not-so-helpful server. I won't be back to know. Don't go here unless you are simply prepared to take it or leave it. Also if the restaurant does not do substitutions, they should be clear and state it in the menu. This is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The sweetbread French toast was divine!!! Our waitress suggested adding caramelized apples, which contributed to how amazing it was. Our other plate was the eggs Benedict, which was almost better than the French toast! We completely cleared both plates (and they were large portions!). The staff was extremely friendly and helpful!! This place gets busy, especially during breakfast hours - but it's worth it. The atmosphere is very relaxed (café setting hence the name). They offer BYOB which is nice and the food is awesome! I've tried multiple gourmet pizzas and some of their breakfast items, which have all been great. Very reasonably priced! My father and I travel all over the U.S. and the World, and the Corner Cafe is our #1 favorite breakfast place in Newport! We had two types of French toast, the Portabella Scrambler, The Vitamin C Booster and simple eggs and sausage. All Awesome!! The staff is so very friendly whether it's crazy crowded or calm. Did an overnight trip to Newport as a ladies weekend and had brunch here on Saturday. A friend had read very favorable reviews and I have to say, I agree 100%. The atmosphere was wonderfully homey and the food was fantastic. We had a group of 6 and were quickly accomodated and served by the owner himself. The parisienne omelette was one of the best I have ever had. Turkey, blackberries and cheese within the omelette, yum. This place doesn't look like anything special until you try the food! We went for dinner one night and ordered a few pizzas (Verona, Mamma Maria)...they were tremendous!! The crust was crispy and the toppings were so flavorful! The next morning we went for breakfast and had the Lisbon express breakfast sandwich which has chorizo in it! What an incredible sandwich!! Stayed near here for 3 nights and liked it so much we ate here 2 nights. Great value and food for dinner. BYOB and the full menu is available so Breakfast to Dinner menu items. All food including breakfast and dinner specials and desserts were excellent. We were here in December, so no problem getting a table for dinner, but was full most of Friday night, and not sure if it would be crowded in the summer. Island Wine and Spirits (about 1/2 mile away) has great values on good wine for BYOB. read more

Okay... I really wanted to like this place. I think I may have just ordered the wrong thing. I ordered the oatmeal and it arrived cold and runny with no texture. I ended up trying one of my husband's pancakes and it was rubbery and bland.. Kind of like something you would expect from McDonald's. My final complaint was that it was freezing outside and the door kept letting all the cold air in. We had to eat with our coats on... Far from being cozy. A total new experience for us! My husband and I were enjoying a few days in Newport and thought we would try the Corner Cafe... a delightful waiter, manager, took our name and sweetly looked at us and asked us to please wait outside for a table... in the middle of February, on a frigid cold day! We could not believe her attitude and when we were waiting a couple told us that their friends tried coming the week before and the they asked the father with a young baby to also wait outside. I never ever write reviews but I am so appalled by the treatment we received this morning that I am not going to let this go unnoticed. The hostess and supposed "owner" of this overrated establishment had such an entitled and rude attitude toward my group when after an hour wait, she decided to place us at the bottom of her wait list because we stepped away to the car when she supposedly called out name. This rude lady needs to get her act together and learn a little customer service before trying to run a business.. Can't comment on the food so all I have to go by is this vile woman, her awful attitude and ridiculous waiting times. Go to the hungry monkey nearby, with nice people and more than enough tables at the ready. read more
