The white bean dip with country white bread we shared was pretty good, not nearly as good as some others have noted though. I also couldn't help but chuckle when the server provided me with my beer and no glass until I requested it. It instead means solid value for happy hour. I will also accept "tastes amazing after four pints of beer." 4. Good crowd. Obnoxious bar crowds are like pasta stains on your favorite shirt. They can absolutely ruin it and be very difficult to get rid of. Well, Corner Tavern scores well on all these points. It's small enough to create a cool atmosphere with good sightlines to all the TVs from pretty much everywhere... but is big enough to bring groups of 4 comfortably. Prices are reasonable, beer selection is above-average, and the service has always, always been attentive and solid (I even admitted to not being a Red Sox Fan...seriously.) Good pub grub, decentish selection of beers, busy at the weekend. They're doing $5 lunch specials again. It's a selection of their sandwich for $5, each comes with roasted spuds or salad. I think this is one of the best bargains for lunch in the area (they just need to be a bit faster getting it out of the kitchen as I need to get back to work). Who would have though that the Last Drop would morph into a place without that awful smell and great pub grub. I've eaten here numerous times and for the price the food is great and the service is (usually) decent and the drinks are good (strong and not too expensive). They also have a reasonable beer selection. I do think they've done a great job with the food, especially with the wee tiny kitchen they have. If they have the scallops on the menu get them, they're good, done right, and in a simple NE style. If you here late on a weekend night you probably won't get a table to sit and eat, but there's space where you might be able to stand and eat. For a place in the 'hood here you can chill during the week and enjoy a reasonably priced meal and a few beers I'd recommend it. However, I haven't been here on a Friday or Saturday night where the vibe, crown, and ambiance is probably a lot different than the rest of the week. read more

One bad? experience (evening of 6/9) I've been here a few times and have generally had good experiences. I'll start by saying that the food is decent and worth trying for a small corner pub. My past experiences with both the door staff and bar staff have all been good. This last trip was both odd and off-putting. I had taken my friend who operates an internationally recognized restaurant locally to a little spot that I liked. I have spent over thirty years working in and operating establishments throughout New England and generally don't nitpick when enjoying a rare night out for myself. This particular occasion warrants a mention however. We arrived and sat at a couple of open spots at the bar where a female bartender was working. My friend was served relatively promptly however I took a bit longer to decide. I ordered a beer and we also ordered some tacos. The exchange felt hurried and not friendly, not unfriendly, just not hospitable. We got our food and found the tacos to be really good, not that the bartender asked, but that's fine. It was really the moment my friend got up to use his phone while I was finishing my beer that made the entire thing odd. We had paid and tipped generously. A couple came up from behind and began sitting in my friend's seat at which point I informed them that it was taken. That is totally fine except that I think that they were embarrassed as they quickly mentioned apologetically that the bartender had waved them over to take the seat. There was no conversation with myself or my friend on the matter. It was an entirely avoidable situation. It may have been a simple misunderstanding. It may have been an off night for this bartender. What I don't care for is being made to feel both rushed and not welcome. I'm not going to mention our races as there is no way of telling if that was a factor however I can't imagine that this person is so lacking in basic service etiquette that they treat all of your customers in the same manner. This has always been a welcoming friendly establishment in the past. I have enjoyed the food. I hope that whatever service hiccup I encountered is not a trend as I would love to be able to continue to recommend this place. Since I have been here before and enjoyed the time, I give it 3 stars, if this was my only experience, I would rate it lower. read more

If I went to bars enough to warrant being a regular at one, I would want to be a regular at Corner Tavern (or as we call it, CT). I've come to CT several times for drinks with friends and it never disappoints. You can always count on friendly service, good food, and friendly vibes. It has exposed brick and low ceilings so it feels very intimate and a great place to share a drink with close friends or grab a meal alone at the bar. FOOD: I've only eaten there once and some friends and I shared the pretzels with queso. I'm not much of queso fan but this stuff tasted fresh, the kind of queso that is homemade and not from a can. This place was everything we were hoping for. It wasn't too expensive and not too cheap. The ambiance was good. The high tops were a little uncomfortable but we got used to it. What made it was the food. The slow roasted beef tacos were FRICKEN INCREDIBLE. Seriously melted in our mouths and the cilantro sauce was amazing. The sandwiches had so much flavor and we're super well portioned. We weren't a huge fan of the potatoes that came with the sandwiches and do wish we would have gotten another side. Oh well. We are here from Seattle to watch the Mariners play the Red Sox. Bucket list for my husband. The first day here on Boston we stopped off here for a beer, since it was around the corner from the apartment we re renting. Danielle, the bartender that day was AWESOME! She is our new friend. She told us about other places to go see and was very helpful to us. The food was amazing, in fact we've eaten there twice in the 3 days we've been here and are going there today for brunch. Highly recommend this place to everyone!!! So far we've had the wings, tasty and not deep fried. Yummy! Their Reuben is delicious along with their roasted potatoes. Went nicely with the Harpoon IPA. This is a fantastic gem tucked away in the heart of Boston. I came here when the heart of Boston was pumping fast (game six world series) and they kept the crowd minimal enough that you could walk around and hear yourself think but busy enough it remained fun. There is a decent draft list and service is very quick. Door staff was dealing with a lot but remained friendly, attentive and fun. The food was surprisingly outstanding. Don't let the Irish pub decor fool you, dinner here is something to rave about-I still crave the brie and caramelized onion flat bread! The roasted potatoes and chicken wings were also praise worthy. We ventured here on President's Day after reading all the positive reviews. The place wasn't crowded when we walked in. Just a few guys at the bar. The bartender acknowledged us and we grabbed a table near the back. The bartender/waiter was right on top of things. I started out by trying a 21st Amendment that they had as part of their rotating drafts. It was very nice. They had $5 happy hour apps. My fiancee and I enjoyed the wild mushroom and truffle oil flatbread. I had to get the meatloaf burger for my main. It was good...not great. I didn't get a big sprig of rosemary either! Not that I needed it. The big winner of the night was my fiance's dinner. A roasted vegetable sandwich with house made pesto pasta salad. It was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Came by this place for a drink and a quick dinner before heading out of town. The space is nicely laid out and has that hometown bar feel to it. The bartender and staff were nice and fairly quick. They had only 4-5 taps, but it was a good mix of mainstream must haves and a couple of neat specialty beers. I tried their meatloaf burger and wasn't impressed. The burger was fine, but it just wasn't my thing. The positive is that the menu isn't boring same-old for a bar. I liked that you can people's shoe watch. I bet this place is hopping on a Friday night. The flatbread was good, we ordered the wild mushroom and truffle flatbread and it was gone as fast as it come to the table. Love, love Corner Tavern. My BF lives around the corner (so the name definitely applies) so we come here frequently. I have been a few times on a weekend night, gets crowded but not obnoxiously so, still easy to get a drink and you don't get pushed around. Music is eh, but no fault of theirs since there is a jukebox (pretty sure about that). Personally, I really like going in during the week for a couple of drinks and a cheap dinner. The menu is not huge, but there is definitely somethign for everyone and they update it on a fairly regular basis. Oh, and the food is good! Simple, like sandwiches, salads, flatbreads etc, but really good. Definitely recommend this place as one of my favorite, chill, neighborhood bar spots in Boston! read more

There are very few taverns/pubs that can serve up good food. Corner Tavern has great food that is very reasonably priced. There are two specific sandwiches I will continue to come back for. The Meatloaf Burger is gorgeous. The perfectly balanced ingredients just put this burger over the top: tender meatloaf, smoky and tangy chipotle ketchup, sharp Vermont cheddar, and sweet applewood bacon. This burger will make-out with every taste bud in your mouth. Seriously. The Short rib and goat cheese sandwich is the other star. Sweet braised short ribs balanced by the punch of goat cheese, and rounded off with potato salad. You also get a side (which you won't have room for). The pasta salad side is huge and has pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. Service is standard for a tavern/pub. This is not a restaurant so I really don't care if anyone is tending to me, especially because it means I get to pay a little less for awesome food. If you are close-by, the weekday $5 lunch menu (select items) before 3pm is the best deal, but be prepared to nap. Thank you Corner Tavern for being in my neighborhood. read more

It's difficult to admit this, but Taco Bell would make a killing selling replacement tacos here. Draft selection is okay, if not too diverse; problem is that at about eight bucks (with tip) for a pint of Harpoon on tap is a bit pricey for a no-frills corner bar. I went for the meatloaf burger (recommended) and an oktoberfest and chilled at the bar for a while with a novel, chatting 90s hip hop with a server, and watching the bartender play backgammon with another customer. This is a great "night cap" location after a few brewskies around town. I live very close by so it is a quick walk home after this bar. This place is NEVER crowded, and that is so very refreshing after a crazy night on boylston or fanueil. They have a good variety of beers and very reasonably priced. I know nothing about the food.
