The salads and sandwiches at Cortina's were delicious. This is good spot to grab some great food to-go. I could tell right away that this place gets really busy. Luckily, the line moved quickly. The staff seemed friendly. I'm glad we ordered food to-go because there wasn't enough tables inside the restaurant. On an especially hot day, we had no desire to sit outside on the patio. I ordered the anti-pasta salad. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The salad was also a huge portion. My son liked his sandwich as well. He got the Cortina's special, and meat and bread were so good! We'd definitely order both of these again! The pastas look wonderful here too! First thing's first: The sandwiches are phenomenal. Amazing. Always have been. Nothing was lost or compromised in terms of food quality during the pandemic. I have been a Cortina's fan for ages and have recommended many people to visit. Both locations have served up consistently beautiful sandwiches and the hype is well deserved. That being said, I will say that after my last visit, I will no longer be a customer. Mid-pandemic before mask mandate was lifted: No masks in the kitchen. No gloves in the kitchen. Cashiers wear masks but no gloves but they handle both cash and food items without washing hands in between. Most disturbing was I saw someone walk out of the kitchen and he was drinking from an open cup. No mask. No gloves. He went straight to the soda machine and pushed his cup into the tab to refill it and then took another sip from the rim and refilled again before walking back into the kitchen. ................ Pandemic or not, you should never do this. Pandemic or not, you should not handle cash and food. Pandemic or not, you should wear masks and gloves in the kitchen. The owner/manager also had a mask in his hand but walked into the dining room without putting it on. I watched him as I waited for my order. He hesitantly handled the mask, clearly showing he knew he should put it on but didn't want to. He eventually did but immediately pulled it down under his chin. He did not feel he was subject to the sign outside stating "masks required" nor did he feel it was necessary to use the hand sanitizer that was supplied for the customers. Again, the food has always been perfect. I've never ordered anything bad and they've never gotten a single order detail wrong. That is something almost nobody can say about any business. Cortina's has impressed me for years and I'm honestly sad to have witnessed such complete disregard for basic hygiene. They seemed more diligent before the pandemic. I came here to grab lunch with a buddy who had come here before and absolutely loved it. He recommended the meatball sub. I ordered the full size portion, but you can also get 6 inches as well. The bread was beautifully toasted and the sauce and meat was super flavorful. Pricing was fair too for homemade goodness. They also had an amazing soda fountain full of various homemade types of sodas. They even had some bottled beverages as well. Their menu is pretty expansive so I plan to make many more trips to try it all out. I was looking forward to grabbing a cannoli too, but they had already run out for the day unfortunately. Love to check out little delis wherever I'm at. They have a nice sized parking lot which is always a plus anywhere you go. The inside esthetically hits the eye. One of the best sandwich shops hands down. Every time I come here I've tried a different sub and have not been disappointed by any of them. At the moment my favorite has been the fireball. The spicy cured capicola and calabrase salame is simply delicious on the sandwich and they top off with a mix of lettuce, tomatoes, pepperoncinis and italian dressing. This place will quickly get busy, especially during lunch hours, but they do offer phone in orders for the people that are in a hurry. I had a doctors appointment nearby and decided to check this place out for lunch. I ordered the meatball sandwich and it was really good. It reminded me of Bay Cities in Santa Monica except the meatballs were a little on the cold side. I ordered the smaller of the two sizes and it was a still a very good sized sandwich. When Capitol Hill is breached and the foundations of American Democracy are being challenged, sometimes all you can do is find something delicious to eat. I had heard about Cortina's for a while from a few sandwich aficionado friends of mine, and while I wouldn't describe myself as a sammich fiend, I've had my fair share of phenomenal subs, heroes, hoagies, and grinders. If there's a great sandwich to be found, count me in! While there are tables open outside if you absolutely had to stay to eat, the restaurant itself was pickup only, with people quietly lining up for lunch... as if everyone had something on their minds. Perhaps we were all preoccupied with the precarious position of our Republic? Anyways, you can't go all the way to Orange without making most of your time there, so I got 2 sandwiches: a hot one and a cold one. Most sandwiches range from $7-8 for 6 inchers and $11-13 for 10 inchers. I ended up getting two of the 6 inchers for a total of $19 including tax and tip. The specific sandwich I was recommended to get by my friend was the Rocky Balboa. Made of sliced, house-made Porchetta with Broccolini, melted Provolone, Pecorino Romano, Garlic Chili Oil, and a really amazing Pork Au Jus, it definitely surprised me. If you recall about 6-8 years ago, Porchetta had its time under the culinary sun, so much so that I ended up having quite a few very DRY Porchetta sandwiches from Coast to Coast. Once bitten, twice shy, I wasn't sure about the recommendation... but boy was I wrong. The sliced Porchetta was flavorful, tender, and JUICY, with the fatty layers combining with the melted Provolone to create tremendous mouth feel. The Broccolini drenched in Garlic Chili Oil added a peppery component to the meal, but what really tied it all together was the hot, savory Pork Au Jus! So delicious, yet balanced, and definitely not too salty, I drank it by itself after I finished the sandwich. But what about sammich #2? As my friend mentioned, "This place is a hot sub place. Don't bother with the cold ones." I'd have to agree. The Cortina's Special looks GOOD on paper: Italian cold cuts, Capicola, Mortadella, Cotto Salami, Dry Salami, and Provolone Cheese? FUHGEDDABOUDIT! Doesn't that sound like The Sopranos in sandwich form? Unfortunately, the sandwich itself is missing some pizzaz, some hard to quantify "it" factor. And it's not because it's plain-tasting; the sandwich also has fresh onions, sliced tomato, pepperoncinis, and a house Italian dressing... yet it just didn't tie together as well as other "Italian" cold cut sandwiches I've had. Overall, as far as sandwich places go, Cortina's is a solid option, especially in Orange. Cortina's is an institution in Orange. I don't know how long they have been in business, but it is a long time. The sammies are very good. Nice portions, decent prices. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. I would eat here once or twice a week if I was closer and my waistline allowed it. My only complaint is that they are closed on weekends. Realistically, I can only get over here on Saturdays and Sundays. If anyone at Cortina's reads this, please open on Saturday. Of course, I am sure they have been asked that before. Everything at cortinas is super delicious and flavorful! I've only been to the other location until today when I went here the good thing about this location is it seems like it's more of a lunch spot as to where the other location is a anytime kinda place. The only thing I didn't like about this location is that they are only open tell 3pm and closed on the weekends that's a bummer because I would totally come here before Ducks games as it's super close to Honda Center! This time I ordered a roast beef sandwich it was super delicious filling and came with a pickle I really did enjoy the flavor of this sandWhich I think next time around I'm going to go for the Cortinas special sandwich as it sounded super good! They have both sandwiches and pasta here. My first time there, I ordered their famous Fireball sandwich. The Fireball comes with spicy capicolla, spicy calabrese salami, vegetables, their hot mix of green and red peppers, garlic and onions, and Italian dressing. It comes on a nice roll. After assembling the sandwich, they put in the "toaster" to warm up the sandwich and to get the bread nice and toasty. The Fireball sandwich is really good. It has a nice spicy taste to it. The second time there, I ordered the Cortina's Special. The Cortina's Special consists of Capicolla, Mortadella, Cotto Salami, Dry Salami, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pepperoncinis and Italian dressing on a 6 inch roll. Unlike the Fireball, the Cortina's Special is a cold sandwich, not toasted. The Cortina's Special is as delicious as the Fireball. Both times I was there, I ordered the 6 inch sub. The sandwich is piled high with meats and vegetables. I measured the girth of the sandwich at a little bit over 3 inches in height. It was physically impossible for me to get my TMJ dysfunctioned jaw to open that wide. The 6 inch sandwich is enough for most people. You would really have to be hungry to finish the 10 incher. The hours on Yelp are wrong. This place is only open till 3:00 pm on weekdays and they are not opened on the weekends. I learned this the hard way when I wanted to bring my boyfriend on a Saturday for lunch and discovered it was closed. When I came here the first time I ordered the Rocky Balboa and it was pretty delicious, the sandwich was very filling and I was quite satisfied. I especially liked the warm sauce that you pour or dip onto your sandwich that took the sandwich to a whole new level. I think the 6 inch option is more than enough sandwich but if you are a hardcore eater then the 10 inch should be more than enough. The second time I came I ordered the fireball, I wasn't really impressed it was a little spicy but not what I expected. The sandwich had iceberg lettuce which was bland and the tomatoes didn't really taste like anything. My boyfriend ordered the Cortina's special sandwich and again the taste was bland.
