First off, I was looking for a good alteration in K town. Really good one ! I have been going to my previous alteration over the years. Sadly, she is closing her business because her rent was going up. I FOUND THE PLACE !!! Jane, the owner she is working very hard. She even opened her place at 8 AM for people who could pick up their clothes earlier before they go to work. Plus, she is very professional about alteration. I went the first time for a leather jacket to fix. It's EXACTLY what I wanted. Secondly, her price is very reasonable. I went to another dry cleaning place in Western, and the lady was rude and tried to rip me off, just cutting the bottom of my dress. I was so upset about that. I would NEVER GO BACK THAT PLACE AGAIN. I had a wedding to attend over the weekend and needed two dresses tailored. I was in a real time crunch and found Cosmo Alterations on Yelp. I followed the directions via Yelp but had to call her as she recently moved to a new location next to HK Mart at 124 N Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90004. It was right around the corner so it wasn't an issue at all. I stopped by and was greeted by the kindest lady I've ever met. I told her I needed the dresses done that night, expecting her to say no. I had two issues timeliness and I hate saying it but the language barrier. Here's my story, I took in 3 button ups but let's talk about the one they messed up. The chest pocket originally was a bit long and literally came down to a taper, I asked them to make the bottom of the pocket round. When I got it back it was chopped straight across and there were long unsecured threads sticking out that I'm going to have to fix myself plus their thread line was a little wonky. When I first came in and explained what I wanted there was a lot of head nodding and "yes, yes, yes"'s, unfortunately she didn't understand. I realize at this time that this is the only negative review, I was impressed with their yelp that's why I chose them. When I went in, I wanted them to choose the day they could get the work done because I wanted them to do a good job. I dropped off my stuff on a Friday and they told me to come back the following Wednesday. I came back only to see that my shirts hadn't been touched. They told me to come back tomorrow. So, I came back Thursday and they told me to come back Friday. Mind you, it's hot and I had to battle traffic three days in a row only to be met with disappointment. read more

I had a dress that did not fit and a wedding to get to at 7pm. I told the owner that I was so relieved I found her. It's not easy to find a place that does same-day alterations. She laughed and told me she would spend all night sewing if that meant meeting a deadline for a customer. She shortened my dress's straps, decreased the plunging cleavage, and shortened the dress' length. The total cost was only $25. The alterations were done with skill, and most importantly, she was fast! I dropped off my dress at 10am, and I picked it up at 3pm. She told me she could get it done quicker if I needed it. The owner seems to love what she does. She collects figurines of sewing machines, which she keeps on display. Also, she moved her shop to this location just one month ago, so I think it has been difficult to establish a customer base. What had started as a small pile of jeans had grown into a mountainous stack of neglected pants that remained NWT and too long for me to wear. My mom, shocked, intervene when she saw my Eiffel Tower. I was scared to part with my Elizabeth & James silk pants, Hudsons, True Religions, some nameless pair from Barneys, high-waisted pants from Seven, etc. My point being that this stack had cost a pretty penny and I didn't know if my mom's lady would do a good job. However, i pinned each pantleg to my desired length, begged my mom to run out if they couldn't do an original hem and left the rest to the universe. 12 pairs of jeans and $120 later ($10 for original hem, $5 for regular) I am a happy customer : ) I received my pants in mint condition, the hems are clean and the lengths exactly what I had asked for. Additionally, she completed my order in just 2 days so I could take them with me on my trip. Ms. Jane Park is amazing!! Do not work with Jean, the boss. Work with others like Grace, who seems honest and her work is a lot better than Jeans. Jean lies, rushes, gives low quality work and pretends like she did nothing wrong. First, she overcharged me for the work that could have been done with other tailors for less than $20 but charged me for $25. I didn't want to argue for $5/10 bucks so I let it slide. But I should've walked away when she did that, but I stayed because Grace was excellent before. She overcharged me likely because she thought she can with me. Jean, the boss, without letting me know beforehand when I went to pick up my shirt, she told me that she changed the price to agreed amount of $25 to $35. This action by her showed her greed and likely illegal. I told her I would give $5 more as I didn't want to bother reasoning with the trickster. Jean seemed so happy that I even offered to agree to any extra raise when the original price was over charged to begin with. I tried my shirt that she worked on, and she over shorten the hem of my brand new $70 shirt. I told her it is too short. First she said the length is ok. When I looked myself with the shirt in the mirror I look like I am wearing a kid's shirt, too small. I insisted that it is too short and I compared with another shirt that I have at the time and it's about an inch and half shorter and I asked Grace sitting in the room and she said it's too short. Jean offered me to extend the length with the left over cloths that she cut off too much from my shirt. The solution of patching it up to lengthen the length of the shirt seem like a desperate measure but I let her try. After 5 min, the result looked ridiculous, Frankenstein helm that should not belong to anyone except who wants to sport that as a fashion, lol. Jean dared to say that it looks ok, and I should wear it as it is without worries. One thing to lie and another thing not to have any pride in the work that she does. I told her my shirt looks like crap and I can't wear it anymore, she didn't apologize or anything. I told her to keep the shirt, which I was way too generous, but I didn't pay for the work she did on my ruined shirt. She was happy to take my ruined brand new shirt, and I walked away from the place with a shirt short. I gave this place 2 stars because of others like Grace. Otherwise, this place deserves negative. Without Jean, I'd give this place 4. Stay away from Jean, she will rip you off as much as possible. Ask for Grace or others. read more

Jane is absolutely amazing at what she does. The first time I went to her to have some pants taken in, she explained to me that there are three points to her business model: She's fast, she does great work, and she does it for cheap. ...the latter two points are true. The sad reality is that she isn't reliable in terms of time. On top of that, she works six days a week, and she doesn't really take a vacation (as going to a Korean church is a job in itself). There will be nights where I'll get there at 5 or 6 (right after I get off work and fight traffic to Koreatown), and she'll have left for the evening or she'll have gone out on a delivery. If you can get your clothing to her, she'll do a great job, but whether or not she'll get your clothing back to you when she says she will is another story. So, here's my recommendation: If you live in the KTown area, there isn't anyone better. If you need it fast, forget it. If you want good work and you want to pay way below market prices for alteration work, this is the place to go. Also, her English is very limited. I've never had a conversation with her in English, but I've seen her struggle through a couple with other customers. She's genuinely nice, and her customer service skills are top notch. read more

I just got a summer dress altered by Jane. The pricing is reasonable , and she is very good at sizing adjustments. There are about 4 customer parking spaces right infront of the shop . Update! She moved location. She's now at the Biergarten plaza. So I've been going to her for awhile now and I realized I don't like her. Cons -She's unorganized - Doesn't really keep track of how much she's charging you, so it's always different everytime you go. OR she'll ask you how much did I charge you last time? It's great if you want to swindle her but if you're an honest customer, she should know how much to charge. Also I just went this past weekend and she gave me the wrong pair of jeans to try back on after she had altered them. -Cash only -For non-korean speakers, she does not speak english so you're straight outta luck. Bring an interpreter. -I asked her to alter my jeans length wise and taper them, but she didn't do that great of a job. One side was more tapered than the other. It is my fault as I should have noticed this when I tried the jeans back on, but I was in a hurry, so I said it was fine and left. Either way she should have done a better job. Pros -The ONLY reason why I would go back and I have been going to her is because she will hem my jeans same day and to me that's very convenient. Perhaps that's why she doesn't do that great of a job because I ask to do it same day? I hate dropping clothes off and having to pick it up again. I'm more of a instant gratification girl. -I'm not an expert at alterations cost, but I think she's on the cheaper side. So there you go. I dropped a dress off to be hemmed and when I came to pick it up on the owner said it wasn't ready and to come back at 10 pm (long after they had closed). When I arrived at the store it was closed and I had to excessively call the owner. When she finally picked up she said the dress needed more time and she had just gotten to the shop. When I walked in the dress still wasn't ready and that she had only just begun working on it. if i could, i would give them ZERO stars. I've had the worst experience with Cosmos Alterations and the owner is not professional. I was desperate to get my bridesmaid dress fixed. i went to Cosmos alteration and talked to the owner. she said she can fix it and took my phone number and a deposit. i was skeptical leaving a deposit despite seeing any of her work but i didn't want to argue. she quoted me a price that was more than i expected but because if the urgency, i was grateful. i was told by the owner to pick up my dress on wednesday. yelp said they open till 7 pm. the sign on their door says they are supposed to be open by 7 pm but i got there at 6 pm and they were already closed. okay. that happens. i didn't let it upset me and i left. they next day i left school during lunch at 11:30 am to try to pick up my dress again. strike 2. they were closed again! let me say, this was in the middle of the regular working schedule but there was a sign at the door this time. i called the number on the sign and talked to the owner. she said my dress was done and that she is very sorry and that i can pick it up anytime that night. later that night, i went there and this is how it went down. she shows me the dress and it was horrible work. i couldn't even believe she was trying to present this to me. you can see the stitches she did by hand. on top of that, my dress is pink and she used white thread. when i asked her about it, she had no words. the dress was a sweetheart cut and she tried to alter it and made it uneven. one side is heart shaped, the other side is straight. she again apologized and said they will fix it and make it even. i asked her "why did you make it the first try?" she just kept saying she was sorry and that she will fix it. she told me to please come the next morning. when i came back this morning to pick it up, it was worse. sweetheart wasn't fixed. she said she wasn't sure about cutting the fabric. she wasn't sure?! what was i complaining about? i asked her why didn't she call me? she had my number? and she just kept saying sorry. i told her.. next time someone comes in and you can't do the work. just say you can't do the work. if you have a question or you are not sure about something, call your customer. i will never return, nor do i recommend this place even to my worse enemy. if this was me a couple years ago, i would have made a scene, not pay and leave. read more

I happened upon this little shop after being turned down by a couple other places for what I needed. I had three collared shirts that I needed altered to be Oxford style shirts (you know, with the little buttons on the corner of the collar). I was kindly greeted by the nice ladies that work here. While they didn't have the specific equipment they needed for this particular project, they gladly accepted my request and said they would outsource the work in order to get it done. The work took a little over a week and I received a call that the shirts were finished. I was very pleased with the alteration, and they even dry cleaned the shirts as a courtesy! The total, with the originally quoted price and a tip came to $36.00 which I gladly paid. (They accept Cash or Check) Ms. Jean Shin (In Sook) is delightful, and I will happily continue to take my business to her. This is a WARNING do not allow JANE SHIN to alter your nice clothes. I made some assumptions I now realize were big mistakes so I want to make sure others do not go through the same. I took my brand new, never worn, leather jacket in to get shortened sleeves and altered shoulders. Jane said she could do the work. She took "measurements" by using binder clips...I thought it was odd but also thought maybe that's what you have to use for thick fabrics. Jane did not take more then a few seconds to complete my "measurements" but I didn't question it I thought she was the professional. She quoted $60.00 as the price. She asked me to pay but luckily I thought quick enough to only leave a deposit of $20.00. I asked her for a receipt and she did not provide me with one. She said she had me in her notebook so it was fine. Make sure you get a receipt before you hand over the money.She told me it would be finished in a little over a week. A week later I call the shop and asked if my jacket was ready and I was told yes. I go to the shop and Jane is not there and my jacket has obviously not been touched (still had binder clips). I asked when it will be ready. They tell me to come back the following week. I call again Jane answers and tells me to come in an hour, so I do. Almost as soon as she pulled my jacket off the rack I could see what a bad job it was. Jane did not bother to tailor my jacket properly at all. She claimed she had fixed the shoulders and even tried to trick me into believing she had the shoulders done by showing me some random sewing inside the sleeve. I'm not a tailor but I can tell when something does not make sense. She also did not bother to do what a proper tailor would do by removing the zipper and THEN shortening the sleeve. Jane simply folded the sleeve, zipper and all and then sewed that together...it's bad. Jane also damaged my jacket. As I was examining the left sleeve I noticed a rip and pointed it out to Jane at first she tried to deny it, then she said "I don't care". She tried to change the subject by showing me some more random sewing and in doing that she also revealed a big stain inside the sleeve. This was a brand new jacket I know for a fact the damage was not there but again Jane could not be bothered. I left, I did not ask for a refund although I should have but I really just no longer wanted to deal with Jane. Beware. read more

THE.WORST.ALTERATION.EXPERIENCE.EVER.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that writing this negative review won't change anything but there's really nothing else I can do to relieve my anger. Never been so frustrated with a business in my life. This was only my second time but first frustration starts out by not getting the work done by the date that she promised. I went to go pick up two pair of clothes on the date arranged and ends up searching for the other pair just to realize that she forgot to work on it. She charged me $30 to fix shoulders on a dress that I ordered online from Korea and $15 for shortening the length of my jeans. I thought it was overpriced in the beginning but decided to do it anyways. That was my mistake... I waited another day for her to finally fix it and tried it on as soon as I got home--only to find out that the shoulders do not match AT ALL!! I don't even bother to call and complain because I know she can't do anything about it since she had already cut too much fabric off. If the dress was cheap or if I was able to buy it again here I wouldn't even be nagging about it! She also runs out to catch me as I took off to ask if I had already paid or not (which I already did ONE day ago which completely throws it off and shows how disorganized she is) What a way to ruin it. read more

She's recently altered several vintage evening gowns and my mom's mink jacket. I purchased an over-size vintage gown several years ago and it had been in my closest for years. I brought it over and she knew exactly what to do with it. She ended up updating my dress into a shorter A line from an older H line look. Now, it's my favorite dress to wear! She also transformed my mom's older mink jacket into a trendy vest and the sleeves were transformed into a classic shawl. I was super impressed!! She does an excellent job and is very detail oriented and meticulous. You can totally trust her with all your high-end alterations and both the price and service are spot on. The place is small but is very clean and organized but most importantly the work is impeccable. Mrs. Jane Park is the best tailor in LA, hands down. She is very meticulous and can alter any thing and everything with great precision. If you have anything that seems difficult, don't think twice and go to Cosmos Alteration.
