So, I got my DMV Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice yesterday in the mail, and I took a look at it today and lo! they want me to do the inspection at a STAR station. Ugh. I feel like the last one I did was at a STAR station. This place is located on 17th st and orange right behind the Chase bank. I called ahead, their staff was very friendly and accommodating .. They immediately picked up the phone, and said they would take my older car (cars older than 1996 need to be tested on something related to smog, that newer cars dont need, so not all stations can check). But when I showed up he was finishing a car and said it would only be about 15 minutes. He got me in and out in less than 15 minutes. Way faster than I have ever got a smog test before. No, let me explain to you, when I came into your shop "we", didnt explain anything to me! You werent even there, your guy merely wrote me up a invoice and before he even started the test I told him that the obd connector didnt work, to which he said " well lets just hook it up and see what happens" my paperwork shows it passed all the emissions the only fail was the obd which I told him didnt work, right there he should have said it needs to be working to pass, and I would have been on my way!! Did he think it was all of a sudden going to start working for him? Ive used you guys before and it was always your policy that if it didnt pass for some reason Id have 30 days to get whatever problem fixed and come back to get the certificate, according to the guy working, you changed that policy due to slow business because of covid, and " times have changed, blah, blah, blah," and that Id have to pay for the test again and the 8 dollars for the certificate!!! That is bad business ethics no matter how you slice it!! I told him the obd didnt work before he did anything, he should have left it alone or not charged me an outrageous 60.00 for nothing!! And as for you trying to make it sound like I have a habit of giving bad reviews on yelp, let me say this, Yelp is a platform for just that!! it informs consumers of favorable and unfavorable businesses. I only have made reviews on Yelp on businesses that I have found to be outstanding, and ones that were piss poor. You didnt mention the good reviews Ive left, those are businesses I would go out of my way to use again and again due to their commitment to be better than average and have the customers best interest in mind. Your business falls in the piss poor category for being way over priced, lack of integrity, and bad business ethics!! You are just fine with charging the customer money when you knew it wasnt going to pass when I told your employee the obd didnt work!! For about 5 minutes your guy spent on my vehicle, and nobody else there in line waiting to get smogged, you charged me 60.00 for nothing and was ok with me leaving highly upset!! If I can keep other people from being screwed by you, good!!! You were ok with breaking a guys key off in his ignition and when he wanted you to fix it, you told him to get the hell off the property, I did some research on you too, I was a repeat customer because you were the closest smog station to where I live, now I would drive 50 miles before I would ever use you again!! And it would still be cheaper. I'm not stopping at Yelp either as far as reporting you goes, Im reporting you to the Better business bureau and other social media platforms, something Ive never done before, but since you like to make me sound like I should get help because Im displeased with your shoddy business practices, game on! Your reply back should have started with " Im sorry you had a bad experience at our station" and tried to come to an arrangement where Im not getting screwed instead of making it sound like I have issues for being upset that your shop ripped me off, bad move!!! I was nervous going to get my smog done without my dad being there but all the anxiety left when the owner come over with a big smile under his mask. Never ever use this business. First, I have never been treated so poorly. The owner yelled, screamed and insulted not just me but the nice older man that was trying to calm him down. I rolled up. They asked me to step out of the car. I asked if I could stay in the car - 1. Because of CV I don't want a stranger in my car and 2. The man was not exactly clean and well-kempt. He told me to leave. I calmly asked why. He yelled at me, told me it was his business and I should F off. This was shocking and insulting. The other older gentleman tried to talk down "Robert" the self-professed owner to no avail. Robert proceeded to continue to insult me. I remained calm. I wish I had filmed it. He then accuaed me of being a Trump supporter. Which is fine although I am not. It was very strange, stressful and embarrassing for the owner. I would advise never to patronize this business. It's too bad. I really was having a fine day and just wanted my car smogged. Should not be that hard. read more

I needed a smog pass to re-register my car and decided to go to Costa Mesa Smog Test Only Station because it was close to my house. My car had a check engine light on and just had a software manufacture software recall addressed. When I arrived the employee did not ask me any questions and allowed me to smog which instantly failed. When I asked him why it failed only then did the employee ask me questions and we determined it was because of the software update. He advised me to drive around for a couple 100 miles and come back, which I did. He also told me he would re-smog it for $20 verbally when I came back. After driving around for a couple hundred miles I returned. He checked my mileage and allowed me to re-test. My check engine light was still on and the car failed smog again. He then told me to take my car to a mechanic after failing and insisted that he did not promise a $20 fee for the re-smog and charged me more. When I took my car to my mechanic as well a new smog company, they both had the opinion that it was obvious that my car would fail smog both times I took it there because of my check engine light. The man working at this company did nothing to educate or improve the chanced of a pass. Not recommend. read more
