This place is really great. About a year ago, just before moving up to Portland, I bought a new-to-me 2008 V10 Touareg TDI. If you don't know what that is, I forgive you: It's an overpriced VW with more torque than Jesus. Even though it's a diesel, it still needed a smog cert. I was travelling on Newport Blvd and yelped this place as being the closest. Lots of good reviews: bonus. The guy there is a truly no hassle business operator. He tool me right before closing time, had me out in next to no time AND gave me a coupon price even though I didn't know there was one. Liked it so much that a couple months later I took one of my other cars there for a smog so I could renew my reg right before driving the car up to OR (yeah, all my cars are still plated in Cali). If you've never done that drive, do yourself a favor and take the 1 & 101 up the whole way. You'll burn 26 hours but it's so worth it. read more

I usually go get my car smogged at the shop on 19th Street but I ran across Costa Mesa Smog online adn was I 100% satisfied! At first I was a little nervous to see such a small shop tucked away but don't let that fool you. The owner, I believe, is extremely nice, professional, and helpful as soon as I pulled up to the shop. You will never get less than great customer service here. The process was extremely quick and efficient. My car was in and out in 11 minutes! Total time I was there was 20 minutes. The owner even explained why cars don't pass smog to me since I know absolutely nothing about cars. The price is comparable and cheaper than other smog places but either mention or bring in your $20 off coupon. Bottom line is this is where I will go get my car smogged every time now. The question now is can I still go here if I am required to get my car smogged at a STAR station b/c of changes to the law. I hope so! read more

Easy and Honest. I watched these guys, as I waited, help a lady out. She did not pass but they were up front with her as to why. It was a computer glitch in her car. They instructed her how to resolve it without paying any extra money and offered her if she came back to get her tested till she passed - no extra charge. It was an insider tip and probably avoided her paying an extra $500 at a dealership. As I waited they give me a tip to keep the car running beforehand as it helps with the testing. I was searching google for AAA smog and this station came up. I decided to do a price comparison so I called Costa Mesa Smog Test Only Station. The phone was answered within a ring or two and I was given a price (with online coupon). Then I tried calling AAA, as directed by their website, for pricing. After many rings and hold time, the person on the other end didn't even know they provide smog checks and certainly didn't know the price. I ended up stopping by CMSTOS and they had just completed another vehicle. They got me right in and within minutes I had my certificate and was on my way. The men who worked there are friendly and courteous. I HIGHLY recommend this test station! I'll never go back to AAA. read more
