Branched out and tried the spaghetti with the shrimp. This was really good. Might have wanted a bit more of the spaghetti but the flavors were really really good. Came with four pieces of garlic bread, so all in all (for a normal person) it was plenty filling. The missus had her normal combo plate and wow, everything was seasoned so well. So very dissapointed, and I wish I could say it was great, because this place has been around for a while and I remember it being much better several years ago. My girlfriend ordered soup, and it took them nearly 20 minutes to tell her they were out. The starter soup with my meal came midway into the actual meal, and the waiter had to be reminded who ordered what. Very, very sad. Also: this is a Greek Restaurant with a TACO SALAD on the menu. Ok, showed up here on a Friday night about 7 pm before a show at the neptune. It was relatively quiet and the first thing I noticed was the amazing live plants here! So many and beautiful! We learned the owner is responsible and has been taking care of them for 20+ years. About the food. We ordered white and their options are one type of wine per variety. Still yummy! We ordered three appetizers. they were ok but only just ok. Still, great spot for a nice quiet dinner before a show at the Neptune! We had great service and loved the atmosphere!. read more

Well, my original review was two stars because the food was still okay even though I found a hair in it. The next time I ordered from here (via Postmates this time) I found another hair, so clearly this is a pattern. The food also got progressively worse with the gravy not very good, potatoes almost raw, and toast buttered clearly when it was cold. Too bad because they are so conveniently located. read more

Urg. I was really hoping this was going to be good but it was a huge disappointment. We went on a Saturday morning around 7:30am and we were unsurprisingly the first and only party at the restaurant. While the waitress/hostess seated us and took our order quickly, we waited over 20 to 30 minutes for our three dishes. There was no one else at the restaurant!! I think they only had one cook and for some reason it took a long time to churn out an omlet, a French toast and a crepe. To make matters worse, the food tasted bad. The French toast was soggy on thin slices of bread, I hate to sound mean, but it's probably the worst French toast I have ever tasted and that included our own cooking at home. The crepes don't taste quite right either but it could be a personal preference. The only dish that was average was the omlet. It was unfortunately a total bomb for us so we will not be going back again. read more

My friend ordered a "bottomless" mimosa and it turns out they are not bottomless at all. He waited at least 15 minutes between fill-ups, and they stopped serving after four. They also didn't mention until we were ordering that if you get the bottomless mimosas you have to order food as well. Makes sense, but none of this fine print was included. Other friend had a black hair in his omelet. Overall, the food is really good here, and the ladies serving are really nice, but don't put Bottomless Mimosas on your menu if it's not actually bottomless. read more

What used to be a great brunch spot just served up the worst dining experience I've ever had. First off, the silverware in the table was dirty. The espresso drinks came out mildly warm, and without saucers and spoons because there were no clean spoons according to the staff themselves. The New York steak and eggs had unseasoned scrambled eggs and a rubbery chewy steak that was not a NY strip. The toast was flattened and soggy. Poached eggs in the eggs Benedict were overcooked, and hash browns felt like they were just taken out of a fridge and heated up half-heartedly. Literally every aspect of the meal was below par. The wait staff and management we're completely unapologetic, even though we had to ask them to fix things multiple times. read more

Let me tell you a little story about a woman named Maria. When my girlfriend and I first arrived, we were greeted and seated immediately by the kindest smile. Shortly after we were seated, we ordered our food and it came in good timing. The music in the restaurant was bringing up so many nostalgic feelings. I loved interacting with the server, Maria. But I don't blame Costas, I blame society........Actually, I can only blame myself. Someday I'll fill this part in. This part will go on and on about drinking, drugs, idle sex , getting detained, lawn ornaments, fist fights, lollipops, the Reagan Administration, bicycling, wind-up toys, the music scene before "grunge", (whatever the hell that was) and what a crappy waitress I was. After Costas, I worked at Sizzler. Life got much worse at Sizzler. Long story short, whenever I visit Seattle this is the first restaurant I eat at. All the food here is delicious and decently priced. Their breakfast is fantastic. They have 50 different types of omelets. There are still women (Hi Sula and Popi!) who work here that remember me and come by to say hello. I haven't been Greece, but I think this is the best Greek Restaurant in the world. read more

If there's one restaurant that sticks pleasantly in my mind after all of these years living in Seattle, I would have to say that the restaurant I am speaking of is Costas. I am writing this review of the restaurant because I've been eating there since I was a teen. Matter of fact my first ever date was at Costas way back in 1980 with Peggy, a woman I was madly in love with at the time, and we spent many meals, and many drinks in Costas plotting, and scheming how we were both going to take the world by storm with our brilliance, and clever innovations. Those were good and special times, and Costas provided the perfect background for two such starry-eyed, dreamers, which we were. Well the past is past, and now for the present. I haven't gone to Costas in the past 5 years, so today I decided to take a walk down memory lane to see if this restaurant still served up a good and hearty breakfast. I snatched up my laptop and headed out the door. It didn't take long before I was standing at the front inside the establishment, waiting to be seated. I noticed a sign up on the wall that said the restaurant had Wi-Fi. This to me was a very good sign because I could surf the net as I ate instead of writing in my digital journal. The waitress seated me and asked if I wanted coffee, and then handed me a menu. When she left I quickly went through that menu, and I noticed right off the bat many items that use to be on the menu once upon a time were no longer available. That was okay because things change in life. I quickly decided what I wanted and the ever so pleasant waitress returned. I ordered an omelet called "The Works", and a side of pancakes along with some orange juice. The pleasant waitress took the order and then quickly vanished. As I waited for my order I let my eyes wander over my surroundings. I looked at the sort of people that were frequenting this place. Times seriously have changed because there certainly seemed to be a lot of conservatively dressed people in this establishment. Back in the 1980s people hung out in this restaurant wearing "laid back" clothing, and they generated a little bit more noise than what I was hearing today. The restaurant was very quiet other than the music that was being piped out through the speakers. Much of the restaurants décor was pretty much as it had been in the 1980s; like it had been frozen in time. I thought this was rather funny. My food finally arrived and did it look delicious!!! The omelet was straight-to-the top delicious, and hearty, and the pancakes were fluffy, and in my mind perfect tasting. It appears that Costas hasn't lost its flair for satisfying the customers hunger cravings. After I finishing my meal I hung around the restaurant drinking coffee (which the nice waitress always kept full), and reading the news websites on my laptop. Once again I stopped what I was doing and sort of let my attention wander again around this restaurant that contains SO many of my most pleasant memories, with special people from my past. It was so easy to imagine Peggy ( My first girlfriend from the 80s) sitting on the opposite side of the table staring over the rim of her coffee cup at me, with that ever, present sparkle she always had in her eyes. The sound of customers arriving brought me back to this present day reality. I decided it was time to go so I packed up my gear, left a very hefty tip for the nice waitress, paid my bill and left feeling full, and happy. read more

If I had to choose between going to my own child's soccer game or eating here for breakfast, I would probably choose breakfast because: 1. I'm a breakfast whore. My ex-husband would just say 'whore', but what does he know. 2. The hashbrowns are like crack. Great, now I'm a crack whore. 3. The biscuits and gravy are MMMMMNOM NOM NOM. 4. The bacon is a 7 out of 10, which isn't a bad number in this vegan-happy town. 5. Children and soccer games bore me to tears. The service can be slow-ish, but I've never had a server who was rude. And believe me, I look for those people so I can complain about them later; it's all part of the process. This is the kind of place I can eat alone and feel very comfortable--I've seen a lot of people hanging there by themselves, reading a book or magazine, or doing some work. I like that type of atmosphere. I stay away on Sundays, because there's a bunch of families (read: CHILDREN) who attack the restaurant (although keep in mind I've only been there on two Sundays), so if you'd like a slice of MOMMY I WANT MORE PANCAKES WAAAH with your early morning coffee, then more power to you. It made me want to register for a semi-automatic weapon. We've been for dinner, and it was all right, but I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, which come with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, and they are sinfully delicious. You won't have much energy for sinnin', afterwards; if you're lucky, you might be able to muster up the energy for a heart attack. But don't worry, it's worth it. read more

This place is fantastic. They have all the classic breakfast items and will augment them if you ask. I got a Denver omlette and got feta instead of cheddar cheese. And they put an avacodo on top!! Also great for burgers for lunch. Don't make it a daily thing as this isn't a fast food restaurant and can get semi-pricey. The single greatest thing about this place is that they have Greek Coffee. If you have never had it you must try it. This stuff is like crack in a cup! I feel like runing for miles after drinking a cup, in spite of potential heart explosion. read more

This used to be one of my favorite brunch places but I am stroking it off the list. Very poor performance and food. Lattes are served in wrong utensils, come out cold, silverware is unclean, you have to ask for things to get fixed. Hash browns cold on one side and super hot on others. Poached eggs over cooked. Soggy muffin and toast. Steak come out super overdone, impossible to chew. When we complained server said we never told her how we wanted it - she never asked. I love Costas I used to go here all of the time. I kept seeing the women who work there ( Penelope and Anastasia) around my neighborhood. Strange... well it took me 6 years,but I finally made the connection that they are my neighbors! I love going in there now,b/c we get hugs. I also love the food. The breakfasts are my favorite though. Biscuits and gravy yum to the max! I love supporting local esp to good neighbors. I support this place like I support Cyndy's. Costas consistently reminds me of a Greek version of Denny's. The food is consistent and it's a fine place to go for gyros or pasta if you're in the University District, but it's hardly anything to recommend. Also, while normally the service is acceptable, I've also had some of the worst service imaginable here (such as waiting twenty minutes after asking for a check to actually receive it and having over half the orders at the table misdelivered). If you like Greek food and aren't limited to the University District, go out to Panos on Queen Anne. It is superior to Costas in every possible way (environment, service, quality, variety, authenticity). read more

The food here is delicious, so giving it such a low rating breaks my heart. But the management here is patronizing, condescending, and lies. I brought a friend here in order to try some food since she had just arrived in the city for a two year stay. This was one of my favorite places to eat at, so of course, I wanted to share it. Unfortunately, we both ended up sick the next day. When I got around to calling them--meaning, after I stopped being sick, so it was a couple days--the manager suggested that there was a bug going around and that it wasn't the food. When I insisted that that was it, he took down my information and promised a refund. Needless to say, it never came. I did return to Costas a couple times after that, but it was with great reluctance. There is a Greek woman who is always working here who makes the experience worthwhile, but I can't help but think that she is not in higher management. read more

My friend and I went here at 8:30pm on a Monday, and we were the only customers in the entire place. They close at 10pm. Clearly we were seated right away, but after 10 minutes they still hadn't even brought us water. We could hear them behind the half-wall talking and some lady kept singing to herself. Though irritated, neither of us wanted to make a scene, so when SingingToHerself *finally* came to take our order we had to give our drink order at the same time. Five more minutes passed and we finally got our waters, and mind you the kitchen was approx 20 ft from where we were sitting, I could see into it and there were zero other customers. At no time during the meal were we ever offered drink refills either. Our food finally arrived and mine was ok (waffles are good), but my friend ordered a gyro and fries. Her gyro was SWIMMING in sauce. There was no meat layer, then veggies, then sauce -- it was seriously like they had some sauce left, threw in some meat and veggies, stirred it all together and slapped it in the greasy bread. I thought about saying something on behalf of my friend and asking for a new one, but SingingToHerself seriously seemed like the kind that would eff up your food and bring it back with a smile, no joke! The next day my friend and I were both sick. This made me wonder, so I looked up their recent food safety reviews on King County Public Health's website. Costas promises, but disappoints every time I come here. The breakfast food glistens with grease, and I always regret eating it, even as a junk food hound. (It's the same as what I feel after eating an old Big Mac combo at a badly managed, dirty McDonald's.) What really got my goat was when I tried one of their Greek dishes: a gyros sandwich. They filled a pita with those pre-fabbed symmetrical pieces that you can buy frozen at the grocery store and fry up in a pan. They only give you three thin pieces, and charge you eight or nine dollars for it. WTF!?! Bounce B.'s review is spot on. I grew up in Chicago, and Greeks owned a huge chunk of the restaurants there, and they were pretty solid. It makes me nostalgic for Chicago. read more

Perfectly serviceable breakfast in U-District. Service was fine but the coffee sucked, sort of weak and not entirely hot even after the server claimed it was a fresh pot. This place used to be great. Alas, I think it has changed hands. The fact that they added a random apostrophe to the name ("Costa's") would back up this idea. We both had the crab omelet with hollandaise sauce. The olmelets were flavorless, as was the hollandaise. I assume the sauce came out of a mix, and the crab came out of a can. The potatoes had an odd texture, kind of reminiscent of mashed potatoes that are then fried. I'm assuming these spuds were frozen at some point. Nice people, decent service, horrible food. read more

Good lord this place is terrible. Most restaurants or businesses usually have some sort of redeeming quality to them but not this place. I called on the phone before arriving to see how busy they were and if we needed a reservation or if there was any waiting list since it was 1pm on a nice Sunday afternoon. The woman I spoke with on the other end of the line seemed to barely understand English as I asked her simply if they were busy and if there was a waiting list. She said they were busy and so I again asked if there wasn't a waiting list. She didn't understand and asked me what I meant by a waiting list. I finally said ma'am is there anyone waiting for a table or are there tables available? She said they were only about half full. My parents and I got there just after 1pm and the place was maybe half full. We waited at our table, and waited, and waited. Finally we flagged down our waitress to get some service and so we could order. If we had known it would take forever to get our food we would've gone elsewhere. My mother and father both ordered a country omelette or something like that where it was an omelette with country gravy over the top of it and then my mother also ordered a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes on top of that to split between the two of them. I myself ordered a California Benedict and then also a meat lovers omelette to go. It took almost an hour to get our food. Also, a couple that came in ahead of us who also ordered ahead of us got our food after us... makes sense right? Anyway, we get our food and both my mother and father are missing their hash browns to go along with their omelettes. Then my mother is missing her English muffin, as well as the country gravy on her "country" omelette and finally the whipped cream on her chocolate chip pancakes. The waitress had to come back to our table a couple different times bringing food at various different times. My mother never actually did get the country gravy on her "country" omelette. The food itself was just bad. The eggs Benedict that I ordered had absolutely no flavor. The hollandaise sauce was bland, the avocado slices were tough because I'm guessing they weren't ripe, two of the three "poached" eggs that I got were runny but the third was almost like a hard boiled egg, everything about the meal was forgettable. I had a bite or two of my omelette and it was ok, my parents said theirs were as well, with the exception of my mother who never got the country gravy she had ordered. Also, the pancakes were disgusting. They were about an inch thick and were so dry, even when doused in whipped cream and syrup. The waitress never apologized for any of the messed up orders or for the food being bad. She came up with an excuse that the kitchen messed up the order. When one of us would say something to her about what we were still missing she would just say "ok." No apology, nothing. Finally after about an hour of we paid our bill, my mother refused to pay for the pancakes because they were that bad and only had a bite or two of them. My meal along with an orange juice was $35. I've never had a meal for $35 that tasted that badly. That combined with the horrible service makes me wonder how the place is still in business and why they have any good reviews at all? You couldn't pay me to go back and try this place again, a breakfast sandwich from Starbucks would be better than the food they serve here. read more

Totally meh. We went there for dinner one night when Chaco Canyon was closed, Cedar's had a 20 minute wait, and my stomach was about to digest itself from hunger. We wandered down The Ave, and this was the first place we came to. GOOD ENOUGH! Dinner was totally tolerable, but not a great value. We had pasta that was passable but absolutely not worth $13, soup that was fine but a little bland, and a salad that did the trick. Service was friendly (given other reviews here, I'm guessing we may have lucked out) and my worst complaint was that the music was Lawrence Welk-style bad bad muzak. This place did the trick and kept my blood sugar from bottoming out, but it's definitely not a destination by any stretch of the imagination. read more

This has been a common game day fuel stop for us for the last couple of years now. I can't say enough about their omelets or their other breakfast fare. They are always busy but usually worth the wait. This time around, we sampled some of their traditional Greek/Middle Eastern fare and were pleasantly surprised. The humus was great, just the right amount of tahini and lemon juice my only complaint was that they did not include enough pita bread for the whole order. The spanakopita was great and would have been even a little better of the feta had been inside rather than grated on the top. I did not see a range of kabobs on the menu but those would have been nice (unless I missed them). The Costas combo was enjoyed by my older son and the grilled chicken Cesar was enjoyed by my other son. Odd combo but what the hell, Seattle is eclectic. I highly recommend this place, it's always good, especially for breakfast. read more

This place is so frustrating. The food is fantastic, without a doubt, and their prices are super reasonable. I think this has largely to do with its location in the university district. You're catering to broke college students, so your prices have to match that demand. Their portions match, too, though; nice big plates. So what's the problem? There is so semblance of consistency in terms of service OR what you get delivered to your table. I have been here four times in a 30-day period and I have never had my food come out to me the same. First time? Perfect. Nice waitress, great food, a salad and gyro loaded with all the trimmings and veggies I could want. Second time the waitress had a SERIOUS attitude problem; actually looked at me like a deer in headlights/like I had sprouted a second head when I asked her for the tomatoes and cucumbers that were supposed to come out on my salad. Third time my salad (which came out with the gyro instead of before it like the previous two times, weird) was soaked in oil because the cook didn't shake the balsamic vinaigrette before pouring it onto my salad. Moreover, the waitress tried to charge us for feta cheese we did not ask for OR receive and I had to have her take it off the bill. Fourth time my salad and gyro were once again bereft of tomatoes and I had to ask for them. The older waitress who served us the last two times shrugged these things off, laughingly saying that it was a family restaurant and that was just how it went, and that I probably have received food from each of their four chefs, who all do it differently? WTF? Why is consistency so hard? It was as if she were a mother feeding her children. Shut up, you, and eat what I give you. I might sound high maintenance, but I hate that I have to babysit this restaurant when I go there if I want to make sure I am actually going to get everything I am paying for. Why so stingy with the veggies, Costa's? It's made me so apprehensive about going there. My roommates and I joke around before going inside, like "I wonder how we're going to get our food this time!" Not a good sign. This is a family restaurant and not likely to change its ways, so my search of the perfect veggie-loaded gyro is still underway. Went to Costa's for my first breakfast in Seattle. Went here because it has many positive reviews on Yelp. I arrived before 10am on a Saturday and luckily it wasn't crowded. It's near the University of Washington so most of the guests were college students. The place has charm. The inside decorations and mix matched dishes makes the place seem dated but the staff makes up for it. I had the small stack of pancakes and side dish of fruit. Exactly what I expected. My sister got the Gyros Egg Benedict. The meat looked like ham deli meat. There was plenty of halondaize served! My friend got the Seattle Omelette. This omelette was filled with various vegetables and it did not disappoint. Pricing of everything was in the medium range. If you are in the University District I would recommend but no need to make a special trip out. read more
