Ordered the special $5 chicken fried steak for 11:15 am pick up. We arrived about 30 minutes early and was surprised our order was already ready. Was worried about it being cold but it wasn't. Still heated it for about a minute and everything was delicious. Very big portions so we both have enough leftovers for another meal later. Employees were very friendly. I saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The place is clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our waitress kept me with a fresh glass of ice tea without having to ask. The manager stopped by but didn't stay too long. They play music, but not too darn loud. (I hate it when the music is too loud). Granted, these are small things but they add up. I had the meat loaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. My wife had grilled salmon she was quite pleased with her meal too. After reading some of the negative reviews l half expected to wait on my food. I'm pleased to say our food came out in a timely manner. It was hot and fresh. That takes time. All in all, my first trip will definitely not be my last. I honestly cannot say I was disappointed or unhappy about any aspect of my visit. I recommend giving this place a try. This was our first visit. Lauren waited on us, and was extremely good in every aspect. We had a sizable group and each ordered the chicken and dumplings. I, having eaten a few hours previously, ordered just the bowl. Everybody else ordered the bowl with one or two sides. I wasn't impressed if you already couldn't tell by the low grade. The service was really slow for there not being many people there. The waitress would walk by, notice empty glasses, and then keep on walking by. She acted annoyed to be there honestly. I had a question, she would answer it, then just walk off. Unfortunately, the couple of times I've eaten here the service was too bad and slow to make the food worth it. Had an especially poor visit today with a large group celebrating Baptism. Waited 30 minutes for a table. Had to ask repeatedly for everything - utensils, napkins, drink refills, our appetizers, the check. My entree actually never came out. From when we sat down at the table to when everyone (but me) finished eating was 90 minutes. Seriously, i ordered fish and chips. Reminded waiter twice it hadn't come. Then he still rang it up on the check and had to ask for credit. Manager seemed annoyed but didn't ever come check on our table or apologize. It's a shame. I have been to this restaurant several times and recently recommended it to friends. However, today was a different story. My daughter and I arrived for lunch about 2:30 p.m. and were seated at a booth in the back section. Our waitress greeted us and took our tea and food order. I had flavored tea which was too sweet for me so I asked the waitress to exchange it for regular unsweetened tea instead. She seemed annoyed at my request and arrived soon with my tea and plopped it down angrily without even looking at me or asking if we needed anything else. Im in my 70's and have never encountered such a rude waitress. My daughter and I left without our drinks or food. I will not be back to risk an encounter with this waitress again. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken Tenders with Fries for my husband to-go. Also an order of Chicken Fried Bacon. I had a order of Fried Green Tomatoes for the appetizer. Giving this place a 1 star, because upon entering the place looked clean and inviting... goes down hill quickly. Walked in and there was a lady at the front host stand. She grabbed a menu while looking at my husband and I, and walked to the back counter near the to go door. She started taking to two other ladies behind the counter while playing with one another's hair. We scanned the restaurant to see if anyone was going to come back up and greet us or acknowledge our presence. After a few minutes of waiting my husband and I left the restaurant since the staff seemed more interested in their conversation among one another than having another patron. Tried the place out for lunch on a busy but not overwhelming Saturday. I was greeted politely and seated promptly--tables were empty but not quite clean, so they are probably still having some of the service issues mentioned by other reviewers. I started off with the chicken-fried bacon. It's a novelty item, but one that actually works. The breading is very crisp, and the bacon inside is crisp enough to snap with it. Great flavor with gravy, I kept going back to nibble at it. For my entree I tried one of the Holiday skillets. The beef tenderloin skillet comes with beef tenderloin tips in a red wine reduction sauce, over mashed potatoes. The beef was reasonably tender and cooked well, with a nice char. The sauce was nothing special, basically just a mildly sweet brown sauce with just enough wine flavor to keep it from being off-putting. The mashed potatoes were OK but could have used more help from the sauce. Overall fine but not good enough for me to finish. I went for dessert and got Mama's Butter Cake. Who doesn't like butter? But again, nothing special. The cake was supposed to be kind of a cheesecake but was a bit mushy for that. Cake and crust were pretty much the same texture. The sauce was basically just a mild syrup, and only a tiny dab of whipped cream. Piling it on might have saved this dish. Cotton Patch is moving into the vacuum left by Black Eyed Pea, and has lots of demand--I've heard the wait is still long in the evenings. But there are plenty of places to get good southern food here, like Neal's Restaurant or Mel's Diner. You can find things on the menu to eat if you're accompanying someone that loves Cotton Patch. If you're tempted by that chicken fried bacon, go ahead and get it, it's absolutely worthwhile. The service issues are getting better, and I think may be caused in part by a restaurant labor shortage in this part of town. Several new places are opening at once. read more

I'm actually surprised at how full this place was. I don't think I've ever seen a restaurant in our area get this packed! Our wait for a table was 35 minutes. The only rough part is that they don't have buzzers so you have to stick close by to ensure that you don't lose your spot. I had seen a post on facebook about registering my email on their site and getting a free appetizer so I took advantage of that. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. O-M-G delicious! They were cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection! I ordered a NY Strip steak with a baked potato and Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was super delicious! They were good, We started with jalapeno fried Mac n cheese bites. My son enjoyed those. I had the biscuit chicken pot pie and my son had the buffalo Mac and cheese. He said his was really good, although a few new noodles were crunchy and my food was bland and really not enough. I added salt and pepper toakebit better and it helped. I always give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. Especially when it comes to good food. The only problem with this place is that they take forever to bring out your food. Most recently we waited almost 45 minutes for our food and it never came. To make matters worse is that it was just one plate of food that we were going to share and there were only two other tables with customers sitting at them. We ended up leaving. Customer service to me goes hand in hand with the food. If you can't deliver good service with good food then what's the use. VERY DISAPPOINTED. My family used to come here at least 2-4 times a month. We moved over to cypress and it's been months since we were here. We decided to drive over today for an early dinner so that we could get in and out before the dinner rush. When we arrived the parking lot was almost empty so we walked in and we're seated almost immediately. I think I counted only three other tables with guests. It took at least 15 to 20 minutes before anyone came over to get a drink order. After another 10-15 minutes waiting on waters, (YES WE ALL ORDERED WATERS) we were finally able to order food. My kids both ordered the CHIPOTLE MAPLE SALMON my wife the CHIPOTLE MAPLE CHICKEN. None of them were served with the "CHIPOTLE MAPLE" the whole reason you order them. I ordered the avocado grilled chicken sandwich with loaded french fries. After about 5-10 minutes our waitress comes back and says they can't do loaded fries. So I asked if they could do loaded mashed potatoes. She replied "Yes of course. You can also order the loaded fries as an appetizer just not a side". REALLY!!!!! You can melt cheese and put bacon on a side of mashed potatoes and an appetizer of fries but not a small side of fries. WHAT!!! How does this ever make since. The team working today was very short handed, but made up for it with customer service and a clean store! A couple came in and waited for 5 minutes to be helped in the Togo section. So we chose both of course. I'd go with the avocado ranch. It was good. When I'm eating out, I tend to order things I don't get to eat a lot of when I'm home feeding my crew of 7. So I went with the grilled salmon and veggies. The waitress asked if I wanted skinny veggies and I didn't even ask. Just said sure! It was all seasoned well.
