I'm giving this 3 stars but would probably give it 3.5 (4 stars mean "yay I'm a fan.") Recently there's been some chatter about this particular Cotton Patch on a neighborhood social media site. I don't know if I can say the site but it starts with "N" and ends with "-extdoor." Anyway, a few weeks back someone posted that they tried Cotton Patch again and was pleasantly surprised by the service. A few other folks also commented that they recently tried the restaurant and it was good! So tonight my wife and I tried the Wylie Cotton Patch again (this probably would be our 6th visit to this location, swearing never to return because of poor service on our 5th visit). It was a Saturday night, and the place wasn't very busy at all. Great for us (because we were seated immediately) but I'm sure not so great for the business. Within a minute a waiter came over to acknowledge us, and to say he would be back but he had other customers. Ok, so far so good. I don't mind waiting as long as they know we're here. It wasn't 30 seconds later when he returned to take our order. The food came out quickly. Portions were huge for the meats (I got chicken fried steak, but wife CF chicken). But the sides were a bit disappointing. Not in taste, but just how small the portions were. To be fair, the portion was probably the "official service size" but the vessel in which the sides came in made it look like it wasn't much. My wife commented to the waiter if there should be more (I mean, maybe it wasn't the right amount?) Not only did he bring another side of the food in question, but also another of her 2nd side. Even the manager was walking around asking customers about their food and how everything was. The wait staff was attentive, without being too hovering. Food? Delicious and very filling. When we have our 7th and 8th visit and things are still good then I'll update the comment to 4 stars. So if you're in the Wylie area and want a Cotton Patch type dinner, then try it again. Maybe they got new management? Maybe they got new wait staff (all of them looked fairly young)? Not sure, but we really enjoyed ourselves. We ate here for the first time Sunday afternoon and it was a lovely experience. I've driven past it multiple times but did not think much of it. I was very wrong. My husband got a Patty melt and I got brisket street tacos. We both got a fruit tea. It was so good! There was a very short wait. Our waiter, Sawyer, took good care of us. We will absolutely be coming here again. My husband said "This is my new patty melt place!" It has a very casual relaxed atmosphere and excellent comfort food. read more

We went here on a Friday night. It was busy and we had to wait to get seated for about 20 minutes. This was expected given the time and the night of the week. Once we were seated our waiter came over and took our drink order promptly and brought our drinks, saying the rolls were cooking and would be a bit. He took our food order and left. 35 minutes later we asked a separate waiter if we could get some rolls since had not seen our waiter. She promptly brought our rolls and refilled our empty drinks. 25 minutes later we finally saw our waiter, told him we were done waiting for our food and asked to speak to the manager. He looked upset and asked us to hang out a little longer and he would take care of us. Of course we said no, and again asked for a manager. A few minutes later, a manager came over and said "I hear we have kept you waiting a bit". I told him we had been waiting for an hour and were leaving and did we owe them anything for our tea. Disinterested he said we did not and let us leave. The waiter obviously did not put our order in since other people got their food that came in after us, and the manager did not show any concern that we had been waiting or had not received our food. Poorly managed, terrible service. Only 3 other parties in restaurant while we were there. Two 2 tops and one single top plus the two of us, so why was the service so slow?? Not only slow but basically ignored by our server who felt it was more important to sit and wrap silverware for non-existent customers rather than take care of the 2 tables she had! Rolls were hard and very small, food was cold when finally delivered to the table and missing items ordered were only brought after asking twice for them, also had to ask for refills on our iced teas. I'm from the town where the original Cotton Patch started and their corporate office should be embarrassed by this particular location. The management and staff are inexperienced, untrained, incompetent and careless. The food is ok but the atmosphere and service is atrocious. The manager appears just as incompetent as his wait staff. One time I had to go to the bar for a drink refill because the manager had all of the wait staff in a meeting for 10 minutes and the hostesses behind the bar we're just standing there chatting and on their phones. And the wait for food is like 30 minutes. We have to constantly ask twice for things. The last time we sat there watching 3-4 staff members stand around when there were 4 tables that needed to be cleaned. We watched a waitress leave a broom and dust pan in the aisle as she went off to do something else. We love the original Cotton Patch but this location is a definite pass. read more

It's been about a year since we last came here because we never had a good experience when we came but we reluctantly tried one more time tonight after everything else was super busy and were very pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent, I don't recall our servers name even though he told us bc I'm terrible about remembering names but he works the bar on the weekends and was so incredibly attentive. We had a little hiccup with the shrimp we ordered and he and the manager went super above and beyond to make it right even though we didn't ask them to. I've gone there three times since they opened and they have messed up my order every-time! Finally on the third time I was tired of paying for messed up and overcooked food so I called and told them about it, they said they would remake my order. When I went to get the remade order they said a manager didn't approve it and didn't want to give me the food that I had payed for three times. Finally Got the remade order and not only was it just pitiful, all the food was soggy and old tasting, they shorted us on fries and the broccoli had weird brown and black stuff on it!! We've been to this location many times. We come early, around 5:00 and have had no problems with the service as other reviewers have stated. On to the food... They have undoubtedly some of the best Chicken Fried Chicken I have ever had! Love their mashed potatoes and green beans too. Don't forget their white gravy! So yummy! Makes for the perfect meal, especially on Monday, when it's on Special. My Husband loves the chicken fingers! He has tried the meatloaf too and was quite impressed. The pot roast is a satisfying meal, rich and flavorful, when they give you a decent portion and don't skimp on the potatoes and carrots. We like the Chicken and Dumplings but they have a tendency to be on the doughy side with a watery broth. Good flavor though. A decent sized bowl that filled me nicely. We will continue to make regular visits to this nice addition to Wylie. I appreciate the Manager making stops at our table to check on our satisfaction. Keep up the good work! Just finished eating at Cotton Patch Wylie. Soooooo good! Chicken fried chicken was tasty! Okra and mac n cheese were spot on. Wife had the Cobb salad. It was a very generous portion with fresh ingredients. Kids meals were reasonably priced and come with oreos for the kids as a dessert. They have a homemade coconut creme pie that looked amazing but we were stuffed. Making sure to save room for that next time! This location has a new general manager, Susan. She made sure to greet us and checked on us as well. She was very active and visible on the floor. Service was good, food came out fast and the quality was great. Highly recommended! read more

We arrived at the peak time of ~7pm on a Friday night. The dining room was about 1/3 full, and yet our waitress was very late in attending to us. She apologized, and since we weren't in any hurry we didn't think much of it. Had we recognized the signs, we'd have left that very moment. My wife ordered some sort of chicken mango salad that she said was excellent. That is the only reason this review grants a second star to this experience. I ordered the all-you-can-eat catfish special... and that's where the fun begins. We waited about 15 minutes for our meals to arrive (a bit long for so few people in the place). After serving our meals, I requested our waitress put in an order for more catfish, as there really wasn't that much on the plate... of course she didn't do that. The meal came with ketchup, but no tartar sauce, and unfortunately I didn't notice until she had left. This is where the fun begins. Our waitress had two tables to serve... that's it... only two tables! My wife and I sat at one table, and a family of four at another table. She spent nearly fifteen minutes chatting with the family, and not once looking to see if we needed anything. I kept glancing over to see if she was heading to the kitchen so I could grab her attention to get some tartar sauce. Finally, after I had already eaten the little bit of fish on my plate, the woman at the table actually told her I was wanting something from her. It was clear the woman was tiring of the waitress hanging around making conversation while her family was trying to enjoy their meal. Even then she chatted for another 2-3 minutes before finally taking three steps backward and asking me what I wanted. I told her I would like more fish and tartar sauce, and she nodded and then walked three steps forward to continue chatting with the family for a few more minutes before she finally walked to the server area to place my order. She then swung over to tell us she placed the order and ask us if we wanted our check now! I politely told her "no, we might want something more after the fish arrives." Meanwhile, she heads back to the other table to continue her conversation. After nearly ten minutes more, she brings me a platter of fries with three tiny pieces of fish on it, but at least there was tartar sauce this time (awful as it was). I looked at the tiny pieces and asked her if this was it, and she informs me that this is the usual amount provided for refills. I then asked her to immediately place another order for more fish, which she did (Admittedly, this second refill order was mostly made on principle, as I was aggravated with the ridiculous portion sizes of the original order and the first refill). The second refill had four small pieces and tartar sauce - so that was a small improvement. However, I am convinced they did not give me catfish, as the taste of this batch was very different. It tasted so much worse than the first two batches that I only ate two bites. It was that bad. Once again our waitress had meandered back to the other table to chat with the family. We finally decided to pay out and leave, and this time the waitress showed up in a reasonable timeframe with the tableside payment machine. We paid and left... probably never to return. Thoughts and Observations: 1) A waitress with only two tables to serve neglects one and overstays her welcome at the other. Neither table is happy with her. 2) If a restaurant advertises an all-you-can-eat special, they should not scrimp on portions and make it difficult to order seconds, nor should they replace it with a poor substitute! 3) No manager was apparent in the location, and given the shortage of customers, one would think a manager would be keen on ensuring all customers were well-tended and happy. The only person who came to our table (other than the purple squirrel of a waitress) was some young lady who handed out discount cards to everyone in the dining room. In the end, other than the tastiness of my wife's salad, this restaurant is a hard pass. I predict it won't be around long. Even in good times a restaurant can't stay in business treating its customers this way, and certainly not in a recession! read more

We had the triple cheeseburger and it is one of the best we've ever had. Great butter grilled bun, lots of cheese, fresh veggies and cooked to order. Fries are good too. Cajun duo was tasty with good cajun seasoning. But the baked potato was tiny. We really love the flavor they put in their food. Ok. I usually go to Cotton Patch during lunch time (Sundays) and it's great. This was actually my first time going there at dinner time and I have to say they were slacking. My order was incorrect, the appetizer came after I finished my entree, and my server was MIA. My water was not refilled until I literally got up and was about to leave. Paying the tab took forever too. My server kept disappearing and 5 minutes later he asked me if I was okay. I told him I was ready to pay and he said he'll take it after he took another table's order. After he was done, he forgot and disappeared for another 10 minutes. I finally had enough and stuck my hand out, in the middle of the aisle in front of him, while he was passing by. The portion at dinner time is also smaller than lunch time. read more

So we have given this place two tries now and been disappointed both times. Both times we called in to-go orders. The first time we tried to order a sandwich that had avocado on it and we were told "sorry we are out of avocado"... okay no biggie we will take another look and call back. We picked out something else and we were told "sorry we're out of that." Okay... so tell me everything you are out of and we will call back again. So we called back and placed our order. The manager spoke with us and apologized for the inconvenience and offered us free desert - which was nice. So I go and pick up the order. We get it home and open the bag. One of the orders is right, but the other order is totally wrong. Like the gave my wife the wrong entree entirely. To top it off the entree they gave her (a salad) had big slices of avocado on it!!! The second experience was equally frustrating. We decided to give them a second chance - it's a new location and still have to work out the kinks. We call and order - this time with no difficulty. The kid on the phone tells me "it will be ready in 20 minutes." So I head up at the right time, walk through the door 15 minutes later. The lady at the to-go counter says "it will be out in a few minutes." So I wait... and wait... and wait. I wait 25 more minutes. 40 minutes total - double the time I was originally given. The food comes out and I pay and leave after a quick glance to make sure the correct entrees are in the bag. I get the food home and my wife opens her box to find that the mashed potatoes she had ordered have turned into macaroni and cheese! The food itself is okay - probably a little overpriced do what you are actually getting - but when you factor in the errors and service - it's not worth it. Just ate for our first time and had a wonderful experience. Samantha blew us away. She took care of us from the moment we walked in, friendly greeting followed by conversation while seating us. She walked us through the menu and provided suggestions. Went with the loaded mac and cheese and chicken fried steak, both were great quality and price! Our glasses never made it under half before she was there to fill up. They also have a full bar. Something else I appreciated was the way the servers worked together. We arrived as soon as they opened. The table was dirty. How could it be dirty if they just opened? Then they brought the drinks, one of the cups had something on it. Ugh. We pulled out the silverware from the napkins to prep for the appetizer, we were hungry. They were not clean. All of them! Seriously! I wanted to leave, but one of the friends I'm eating with is not the type of person that will do that. So we stay. Our appetizer comes to the table and it looks great. We got the fried green. They were very tasty. Too bad they gave one of us a dirty plate, but the one that got the dirty plate is a guy and didn't care. Men! Then our food comes. My friend had asked for the gravy on the side, didn't happen. This was getting ridiculous. The food was at least decent. The girl brought me a refill, the cup had lipstick stains on it. Ugh! Then we had dessert. They supposed had a Dr Pepper cake I had to try. I love Dr Pepper, so we ordered it. It didn't really taste like Dr Pepper. Oh well. Never going back. My husband and I decided to stop here on a whim for a Saturday afternoon lunch as we were passing by. Neither one of us had ever been, so we weren't sure what to expect, but I told him I've been wanting to try it and I'm so glad we did. The cornbread was the best I've ever tasted and the rolls were delicious as well. The chicken fried chicken sandwich was super tasty and his chicken fried chicken was devoured before I could figure out how to fit the chicken sandwich in my mouth. I was a little nervous that it might be overcooked a tad, but it was perfectly crispy on the outside and the chicken was tender and flavorful! If/when you decide to go, ask for Kennedi because she's the best! Our drinks were never empty and she put up with my husband and his bad jokes and brain teasers. She was super patient with us, told us about the most popular menu items and even brought us out a first timers gift! Went to Cotton Patch in Wylie last night for dinner with my family and they were really really busy. All tables and booths looked full when I walked in and we were seated by the bar area. I can honestly say that I was pleasantly pleased to go to a restaurant and get the extraordinary service I was given with my waitress/bartender Roxy!!! She was making all kinds of drinks and taking orders left and right. Typically when I go out I don't get the service and kindness as I did last night. She was so patient with my kids and suggested we try the new drinks that were on the menu. To add to all that my food was so yummy. We got the famous chicken fried steak with lots of gray! Loved every bite. The rolls were so fresh and we enjoyed getting a second helping as we were waiting for our food. She made me a blue frozen drink that was so pretty to look at as it was tasty! Really disappointed with our visit on Saturday. First and foremost, the restaurant was dirty. The glass separating the tables had smudges and marks all over the restaurant. There weren't any children in there so I have a hard time justifying it. Second, my silverware, both knife and fork had food residue on it. The menu appeared to offer some really nice options but the execution wasn't good. Both my wife and I ordered fried food that came out not script or brown. The sides were not hot either. Also, while the Mac and cheese was creamy, it seriously wasn't better than boxed or canned Macmillan and cheese. Expected much more. This location didn't do the company any help. Our server was nice but she was obviously stretched thin and we didn't see her much. Not a good thing when you need clean silverwear. We will not go back to this location again.
