Reading the reviews for this place on yelp gave me high hopes. The place is good, not great. I had a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink. The good quality is alright, but it's nothing to write home about. I felt like my burger was going to fall apart in my hands while I was eating it. My entire meal cost me 11 dollars. I didn't necessarily think it was worth it. I might come back to try something else but not anytime soon. Atmosphere is causal. Typical fast food seating. There were flies inside and that took some of the enjoyment out of the meal. I also noticed things on the floor. It appears as though the place isn't cleaned throughout the day. read more

Good burger and fries. The shake was perfect consistency. The previous commenter complained about the staff holding up orders for 15 minutes so the cook staff could catch up. That doesn't mean it's poorly run. For context, it was after a football game AND Dads weekend. There were probably 150-200 people in the place 30 mins after the game. I married into a stalwart Pullman family, so I now enjoy Cougar Country by default. Here's the deal for the uninitiated. Tell a WSU fan their football team sucks and you become their new best friend. Tell a WSU fan there is the slightest possibility, however minuscule, that Cougar Country just might not be the most amazing food in the universe, and the gloves are coming off. Extreme sentimentality for tradition explains most of the Pullmanite delight in Cougar Country. They're tasting their memories, their nostalgia, their pride, their identity. They don't know this. They think it's about the food. It's really not about the food, which by the way, is average. The hamburger patties are super thin. The fries are so easily beatable. The ice cream is great. Cyclones do indeed rule. I've come to appreciate and like CC, however. Genuinely. It's more fun to go there than to Jack-in-the-Box down the street because it's a Pullman institution. But honestly in terms of food you'd be doing just fine with an Oreo shake and curly fries from Jack. Actually, Jack's fries are 100 times better. But forget you ever read this. This was about my third time going to Cougar country. Each time I go the employees aren't friendly, nor helpful. You have to order yourself at the iPads by the door because if you stand at the ordering window the employees ignore you. While I waited for my food I watch an employee wipe her nose with the inside of her palm gloves on and then continued to pack food that was going out to customers with the same gloves. During the time of me waiting for my food another employee took the time to count that there were 10 people in the dining area instead of 6 and discussed that with her coworkers. The employees stand in small groups discussing how they should go about orders instead of actually delegating jobs to each person to make orders go out faster. I waited for my food for around 30mins I was not once acknowledged. They only acknowledged me when my order was done. On my order I asked for extra cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce on my burger which I didn't receive and I was charge extra for the cheese. I then asked for two of the five fry sauces to be switched to ranch and the employee was trying to act as if she was busy and asked a coworker to switch them for her and she proceeded to stand at the order window. We've gone back twice since my last review. The burgers are still great, and the service is fast and friendly. Both of our recent visits landed us with almost-warm, soggy fries. It was definitely a bummer. We just grabbed dinner here on Wednesday. The drive-thru was full, so we actually went inside for the first time since last year. There were a few groups of teenagers, but they mostly had drinks/shakes. Besides the cars outside, we were the only customers ordering at the time. Every college town has a local burger joint and this is Pullman's. Cougar Country knows where it's at. The best part about Cougar Country is that they don't skimp. They give big burgers that fill you up! I'm particularly fond of their chicken fillet sandwich, it's nice, simple and, most importantly, hits the spot. Plus, they have milkshakes, as every true burger place should. Sadly I think it's the last days of huckleberry milkshake season, so tasty! You have to wait a few minutes for your order to come out. On game weekends it tends to be busier and the wait a bit longer but it's a fun busy atmosphere and the wait is easy with friends. They have a drive thru but I've never used it. Parking kind be a little annoying as it's a bit limited and some of the spots are tricky to get out of. Don't pass it up though. Cougar Country is a classic! read more

Definitely the worst burger I've ever had. People rave about them, so I went back again thinking I'd just gone in on a bad day. Nope! Burgers taste burnt. No one in our family finished their burger. Ordered my son a hotdog and he only ate one bite. I was confused because he LOVES hotdogs, so I tried it. It tasted like it was tainted with lemon Pine-Sol. I absolutely love Cougar Country. I was introduced as a freshman at WSU and have been going ever since. They have great food and the BEST fry sauce. I typically get the Cub burger (kids meal) because the regular burgers are huge! The Cub burger comes with fries and a small drink so it's the perfect meal. If you're looking for a hangover cure, this is the place to go. My only "negative" is that the drive thru is very small so if there are two cars in line already you basically can't go because you would be in the street. They have awesome milkshakes and ice cream as well, so its the perfect place to gather with friends and enjoy food that is special to Pullman. read more

Used to go here all the time, but now I'm done. 1) They raised their prices if you pay with credit card, but that's not reflected on the menu. You may not notice, like I didn't, until you get to the window. 3) No matter how many times I ask or how many baskets of food I order, they will only give me 2 cups of ranch. They'll throw in a ton of fry sauce and BBQ. But I have asked multiple times to replace the fry sauce and BBQ (it just goes in the trash) or to give me a few sides of ranch per basket, but they will only give 2. For example, when I've ordered a burger with fries and chicken strips with fries, I'd like more than 2 cups of ranch to split between my friends and myself. I'm always a fan of local burger joints and this place definitely fits the bill! Do yourself a favor and grab a milkshake/malt with your meal. If you're looking for good fast food in Pullman this is the place to go. The fries are under seasoned for me but eh, nothing a packet of salt can't fix (or being smothered in ketchup and fry sauce). The seating and parking are tiny so if you're thinking of sitting down and eating I would try to avoid the main lunch and dinner hours or get creative with your parking. The drive thru can also get pretty crowded so you've been warned! The only reason this place doesn't get a full 5 (besides the fries, sorry) is because one of my friends got the fish and chips and wasn't a fan. I'd have to agree with her. Things have changed with the new ownership at Cougar Country. Four of us ordered different burgers but all had the same issues. The burgers are no longer char broiled, the lettuce was placed on the bun then the hot burger patty was placed on the lettuce, this cooked the lettuce and left it greasy and slimy. There were no pickles, very few chopped onions, very thin sliced tomatoes and so little bacon I only saw it on half the burger. I will not go back for a long time but will give it one more chance in about 4 months. I do not mind paying a premium price for a great burger but this was not even an ok burger. read more

I love this place. A friend brought me here for the first time as a WSU freshman. I was shocked that the burger was as big as my head and I thought there is no way I could eat this whole thing. I ate all and it was delicious!! Thank goodness I didn't have a car when I was in school or the Freshman 15 might have been the freshman 50. Super tasty burgers (bacon with cheese please!) and really good fries. Every time I am back in town my husband and I have to stop for cougar country. Whenever we find a new burger joint our measuring stick is Cougar Country. As in "its no Cougar Country, but it was pretty good". I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

If you want small-town fast food, Cougar Country Drive-In is your place. Take note: it is not a drive-in (perhaps it was long ago), as you don't park and have staff take or deliver your order. Instead, it is a drive-through, and a small one at that, where only two cars fit the length of the driving lane. (Once, I saw a man on a horse go through their drive-through.) Their parking lot is small, too, so endeavor to be the courteous guest and park _within_ the lines please. Prices are good--just right for what you get. The cub burgers are small, thin, greasy, and would not taste like much without the mayo and their special sauce. They're a nice size to go with a side of fries or onion rings. If you get a hamburger deluxe, then you're getting the huge burger which is sometimes hard to finish. I recommend skipping the mayo and special sauce, in favor of paying a small extra price to get onion, tomato, and lettuce. Fries are crinkle-cut and best with their house fry sauce. Sometimes the fry boat is filled with only a bunch of short fries (annoying!). Onion rings are smooth battered, usually thin and partially over-fried, but they're tasty! The grilled chicken sandwich is pretty good but sometimes can be overcooked or dry. It is no longer listed on the menu board but, if asked, they will make a most excellent grilled cheese with ham sandwich--sheer heaven! Their fish and chips are good and come with tons of fries (they have malt vinegar and tartar sauce available). There is a wide assortment of fountain drinks available (one of the best selections in town). The iced tea is brewed (very nice!) and their huckleberry milkshakes are to die for (available mid through late summer). Chocolate or fresh banana + chocolate shakes are wonderful too. Ordering tip: if getting a milkshake ask them to give it to you upon order, otherwise they'll make it right away and it will sit on the back counter melting while your food is being cooked--who likes a runny milkshake? The dipped ice cream cones are great, especially the kiddie size. The space is small and sound carries throughout the eating area. They have acoustical foam up to help but it gets very loud in there at times. If you ever see a school bus parked there or near the open dirt lot opposite of the adjacent gas station, avoid at all costs, unless you don't mind waiting forever among loud teenagers for your food. The cleaning solution they use to spray the tables is downright offensive and strong so avoid "wet looking" tables if you can. read more

Honestly, probably one of the things I miss most about Pullman. They have a huge shake/ice cream selection and offer more than the regular burger joint (seriously, they even serve clam chowder). I would typically order a cheeseburger and french fries (with fry sauce of course) and a Butterfinger cyclone. I believe they put thousand island on their burgers so they aren't just the typical burger you would find at a McDonalds The interior of the restaurant has that 70's vibe but we usually got ours to go. When you want to talk about a big juicy burger, this is the place to go. There are many options to choose from and the layout is that of a typical burger joint. I love the ambiance as it is in a college town and the setting feels definitely appropriate. For a place to go after that hangover or crazy previous night, this is the burger remedy. I highly suggest this place to go with your friends. Driving might be the better idea since it is across Dissmores. Service is typical and like all joints, its 'take care of yourself.' Now with the kiosks it seems the staff doesnt stay up front to take orders other than the person taking the drive through orders. Best drive-in in Pullman. It has vegetarian options like a black bean burger, veggie burger, etc. It also has the cub burger as a featured item on Mondays and Tuesdays where you can get it for 1.99. I love Cougar Country for one main reason though... DEEP FRIED PICKLES. They have them in orders of 3 or 6 spears and they are to die for. Other than the fact that it's named after the university and has been in Pullman for decades, Cougar Country is subpar for the price and atmosphere. It looks like a 5 guys with a seating area. The workers are blocked off behind a plexiglass wall with the run down menu stand behind it as well. A regular burger will cost about $7 and is roughly worse tasting and more greasy than your average McDonald's offering. I don't have any strong feelings for or against this place. I would love to give if four or five stars, but the food is just lacking. They've got a quite expansive menu, so I was excited to get their fried chicken sandwich with fries. I get my sandwich, and it's just not up to par. It was soggy and just not tasty. Oh and the fries? Wasn't long before they were rock hard. Another thing that bothers me is how the driveway for the drive through is laid out. This may or may not be their fault, but it's just dangerous. It sits on a busy street, and the drive through only holds 3 or so cars. When it's busy, cars have to pile up and wait in the street, blocking traffic!
