I flew in from California to visit a friend who goes to WSU, and this is one of the places he took me to get lunch. I had a fried chicken sandwich and it was killer!! Super delicious, and I enjoyed that it was on a wheat bun. I also had a pumpkin pie shake, so tasty. My friend (who is from CA as well) told me to try the fry sauce because its supposedly comparable to the "spread" or "secret sauce" at In N Out burger. The fry sauce here wasn't comparable at all hahah, it's pretty much just ketchup and mayonnaise- but I am a fan of those two sauces so therefore it was enjoyable. Great burgers, great selection of food variety. A must visit when in Pullman. It is a Washington State University icon since 1932. They serve specialty burgersvand baskets, I had the traditional cheeseburger, fries, and lemonade. Great burger, crinkled fries, and normal lemonade. Their burgers are thin and often not the best flavor-wise. I've gotten them raw on the inside a few times, which is amazing since they are only 1/4" thick at most. What I really love here is the fries/onion rings and the MILKSHAKES! Best dessert/ice cream place on the Palouse! But I find McDonald's has a more satisfying burger with more toppings for the same price. Go here for a sweet and salty fix, but not for a burger. I don't know how they've been rated for the best burgers in the area, other than the fact that the only competition close by is Jack in the Box and McDonald's. Not a fan of their burgers, but most everyone else is. I love the rest of their food (how are their corn dogs so good?!) and their slushies are cheap. Their milkshakes are good but pricey, stick with the hot stuff for more bang for your buck. Never do drive through, park and go inside. read more

Went here for lunch on Saturday about 1. I have watched multiple employees touch their mouths, hair, nose, and face with gloves on then proceed to touch food. None of the employees are wearing masks. The phone has rang 3 or 4 times and all the employees are ignoring it and/or picking it up looking at it and not answering. When we walked in, we're were ignored, not greeted, and given zero instruction on how to order. It took over 40 minutes to get food. Pretty disappointed. Not sure if I would come back. read more

If you are from the west side of Washington, Cougar Country is sort of similar to Dicks in Seattle. I have dined here on two occasions, both not bad but also not too great. I ordered the Cub burger and a small side of onion rings while my friends ordered small fries and cyclones. My burger was average, the usual pickles, cheese, and house sauce. They were a bit stingy on the onion rings as I only got four in my bag. The cyclones however knocked it out of the park on a warm sunny day. Probably would return if I was in the mood for a milkshake type drink in the area! read more

Worst service I have ever had at a fast food place. We waited 30 minutes in the drive through line and the forgot one burger and had to wait another 10 minutes. No apologies. No discount and it was NOT busy at all. So sad to see an historic institution go into the ground. I will never eat here again. read more

I've been a patron of this restaurant since I was an undergrad at WSU 10+ years ago (class of 2011) and since they recently reopened... I honestly was not impressed... maybe it's because the place was super busy (we went the first weekend they opened at regular hours) the line was really long and when we got there the kitchen staff was catching up on tickets so they weren't taking orders (which is weird but i guess they were probably short staffed in the kitchen). Anyways, after 30 minutes of waiting in line we finally ordered our food but when we got it, the food recipes seem to have changed quite a bit. The burger patties seemed much smaller than the advertised quarter pound and severely overcooked. Also the patty had no seasoning whatsoever, although we got bacon burgers and the bacon was cooked perfectly. Of course I'll probably be back to try it again, in hopes that they improve, but the burger was just so disappointing compared to how it used to be. Aside from that their fries and shakes are still great, so at least they have that going for them. read more

I don't normally post reviews but I was here with my friends who yelp and they started reading reviews. When we came across a bad review because they season with a product that contains some MSG and get deliveries from a supplier? So we looked at their reviews and noticed they give bad reviews to anything not Moscow co-op? Really? This is a small local drive in type restaurant that has been a college student favorite for years and you expect Old McDonald to bring you down his produce and beef from his local farm and expect to be able to afford it? Not to mention a poor college student. If you like mom and pop hamburgers than these are the best in town but if you don't use soap and like to eat granola while texting on your iPhone that you only eat organic non GMO tofu paste then don't eat here and if you do don't be surprised when there potatoes are fried and the buns have beef in between them. I ordered a bacon burger, that is where my journey begins. Along with that I got a small fry. After a speedy cook time the cashier called number 98. Enthusiasm ran through my body. I jumped up and got the meal. As I sat down I rolled up my sleeves, I knew the journey I was about to embark on would be an amazing adventure. As I opened the chrome bag I pulled out the most glorious of burgers. Roughly a 4 inch diameter, filled with burger, cheese, special sauce, bacon, as well as all the other condiments privileged enough to lay atop this glorious meal. As I took my first bite, the flavors of all parts of the burger came together and the heavens opened up. My love for the bacon overwhelmed the first couple bites as that was all I focused on. After I was able to tame my tastebuds and tell them to taste everything I was able to enjoy the special sauce that is the true identity of Cougar Country. I savored every single bite. Even down to the last. This burger epitomized the meaning of being a carnivore. It makes vegetarians crap their pants just thinking about it. Without a doubt, the best burger i've ever had. Get the Super Basket on Wed/Thu and it's on sale. Mon/Tue is the small Cub Burger for real cheap. Consistently amazing and super friendly staff.
