Country Home Learning Center is such a wonderful facility with so much to offer children of all ages. The campus is beautiful, clean, well organized, and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and quick to love on all the children. On the initial tour we met the director who took the time to show us around, then we met more of the admin team when we started. The summer calendar is filled with fun field trips and numerous activities to match themed weeks. The water park is beautiful and they have indoor playgrounds for both young preschool children and the 3, 4, and 5+ kids. You definitely get your moneys worth with this school. I absolutely love this place, I have worked at this location for 12 1/2 years, my co workers are the best, the directors go above and beyond for everyone employed here. My daughter also attended countryhome until she was to old to come and she often comes to visit. She started when she was 3 and was taught so much, Mrs. Carmen was her favorite in that 3/ 4 year old class. She loves Ms. Zena also which is still employed here at #5. A Parent's Honest Experience!!! We chose Country Home Learning Center because of its great reviews and our positive impression during the tour. Initially, everything seemed perfect--until We received daily or weekly calls from the daycare asking us to pick our son up due to "misbehavior" or "tantrums." This was confusing because he was always well-behaved at home, with his cousins,and at church. After a while, we transferred him to the Spring Farm location, hoping for a fresh start. For the first two months, he was happy. But then, when the new school year began, he got a new teacher. Suddenly, he was crying every morning, begging us not to go to school. He even told us his teacher had hurt him, saying she pinched him. That was when we decided to pull him out of Country Home. We moved him to La Petite Academy, and the change has been amazing! After four months, we've had no issues--no phone calls, no "tantrums". Our son loves going to school and talks about it excitedly every day. The staff is Very caring, and we even have access to cameras to see him during the day!!! Not sure exactly what was going on at country home but We see the difference, every morning kids crying and begging not to go to class, here at La Petite Academy Kids Run To Class. While this was just our experience (and there's so much more I could have wrote), it's been clear that Country Home wasn't the right fit for our son. We're thankful to have found a school where he feels Safe and Happy. Based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend Country Home Learning Center. read more

There are too many kids accepted in each class. My child came home with scratches, bumps, bruises that no one could explain or recount what happened. Let alone a report being made. My son ended up with a severe bite to his arm that wasn't even mentioned to me by the teacher. The director told Me what happened on my way out and I doubt there was any consequence to the child. And what I mean by consequence I mean expulsion. That's apart of the bite policy. That bite happened over a month ago and he's still visibly healing from it. My blood boils everytime I see it. They also charge for breakfast which I think is ridiculous. And on top of that, if they're not there by a certain time, they don't get to eat the breakfast that is already paid for. Again, the classrooms have too many kids in it for the teachers can handle. I got tired of my son coming home with bruises on his beautiful face and no adult knowing what happened. I had to take him out. He barely lasted 3 months. It looks cute from the outside, but it's just an understaffed, overly expensive daycare. read more

As a first time mom I was initially very nervous and apprehensive to put my child in full time daycare upon my return to work. But Let me tell you, we couldn't have picked a better place. From our first interaction with Brandy when we initially inquired about care, to our daily interactions with the infant teachers, we knew that our girl was in good hands. I wish I could name and thank every person who took care of our daughter. But just to name a few; Michelle, Georgiann, Gina, Janet. We are incredibly thankful for the care that they've provided to our girl. Unfortunately we are moving out of state, and we will no longer be able to use this center for care, but I know that it will be difficult to find another place even 1/2 as caring and involved. I feel like the worlds worst mom after touring this facility. I had my son at KRD for the last year and I'm kicking myself for not looking into this place sooner. My son started attending last month and absolutely loves this place. They have a water park on site and indoor basket ball courts. He is taking Spanish, computers and even a cooking class.... and he is only 3 yrs old. The even offer golf and horse back riding. The teachers are great and constantly keep me in the loop on his daily activities. The best part.... I'm only paying $40 more a week than the other place.... around $600 a month for full time classes and meals. If you are the parent of a toddler in San Antonio, YOU MUST CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!! read more

My 2 year old has been at Country Home since May 2015. This is the first daycare he has gone too. I know when I drop him off he is in great hands. The best part of Country Home is that it isn't just a daycare, it is a learning center. My son has learned so much since starting . His teacher is amazing. The front staff is always friendly. I am very Happy with Country Home. We have been to several daycares and what stands out about Country Home for me is that the class rooms are filled with lots of toys, theres always arts and crafts that the kids have made posted on the walls in the class rooms.They also have losts of educational posters on the walls for the kids to learn .The class rooms are very colorful. Mis. Sabrina. is my sons favorite teacher she is so sweet. She has a lot of patients and shows compassion to all the kids shes a Great Teacher! When I see Mis Adriana or Mis Sabrina in my sons room in the morning I feel so good to know my son has sweet loving teachers. . Mis Giniva the director is wonderful in communicating info to parent's. We have been with Country Home at this location for over 6 years. My oldest started kindergarten last fall and left Country Home, but my 3-year old still attends this day care center. We know many of the staff and teachers, if not by name then by face. They all know me and more importantly, they know my kids. The PROS: I feel comfortable to bring up an issue with them if one arises. For example, when my oldest was 2, and a little boy (Country Home is very good about keeping the identity of the "offenders") was bullying him and bit him a few times (no blood, just marks), I was able to resolve that by first going to the teacher and bring it to the teacher's attention and later when the kids move up the levels have him not being assigned to the same class. When my little one moved from the 2-year old class (main building) to the 3-year old class (side building), he and many of his friends had a hard time because moving buildings is a big deal for kids in that age group. At the same time, my 3-year old's teacher got sick and had to take leave, and I was able to talk to the Director about keeping regulars as the substitute teachers so the kids recognize and feel comfortable around them. The Director did better than that, she kept the same 2 substitute teachers who are also sisters and have been working at this location ever since we've been there (i.e. 6 years and longer) in the class until a permanent teacher was found. The kids know them, and they are so nice and bring stability into those kids' daily routines. An transitional stage for those little ones is always tough, but we've got through it. I "can't wait" for the transition this year when he will be moving to the back building into one of the 4-year old classes! Other pros are the location (close to my work) and AMENITIES. We first selected this daycare over other daycares nearby because of the amenities: indoor playgrounds, outdoor shaded playgrounds with lots of oak trees, shallow pool, splash deck, putt putt, media room for plays and movies, 50's style diner and soda shop, huge gym, and field trips (for 4T and older) that includes horseback riding at Country Home Ranch at Boerne, TX, Build a Bear, Monster Mini Golf, San Antonio Aquarium, watch plays at an outside location, going out to ice cream shop and pizza outings...etc. Those are some of the ones I attended with my older one on his field trips. We also like the Excel (kinder-like) class which my oldest attended before Kindergarten b/c he was born in late summer and we didn't want him to be one of the youngest boy in class, so we held him back a year. It really helped making the transition to Kindergarten in an elementary school easier and fun. Thanks, Mrs. Joanna! The CONS: There are always things that are outside of the daycare's control, such as bullies in the class, colds and viruses going around, and every once in a while, some kid will bring with him/her head lice, but that's daycare for you. Preschool education (exclude Excel) may be a little lacking here, but my husband and I both wanted our kids to be kids and really learn by playing toys and socializing with other kids in those early years of development as opposed to hard-core academics. Last fall, when my 3-year old's class starting learning letters and numbers, I dusted the old set of flash cards and for a few minutes each day, I taught him letters and numbers too along side the curriculum. My other complain is Country Home doesn't accept credit cards, only check or cash, which can be annoy when you forgot payday and had to run to the bank. But that's not by location. Another side note: all those nice field trips mentioned above come with a cost outside of tuition, so they can add up to be pretty expensive. Tuition has been going up a bit over the 6 years we've been here. They have renovated the front entrance area in recent years which is nice, but I would like to see more updates such as better working toilets (they don't flush well) in class rooms and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix the clocks everywhere to match the right time! Overall, I am pretty happy with Country Home at Toepperwein. It's one of the better ones in this area. read more

My daughter attended Country Home for three days before we decided it was best to take her out. She was in a transition class and her teacher was very unprofessional. I was picking her up one day and her teacher made a remark that my daughter was "immature". I was very taken back by this comment and asked her what she meant by this. She explained to me that my daughter didn't know how to change into her swimsuit. She continued to tell me that my daughter was "socially not there". She said that my daughter had been there for two weeks and didn't know how to play with other kids. I was so confused and told her that this was my daughter's 3rd day and she is very shy. I corrected her and she laughed out loud. Also, the classroom was filled with 4-5 year olds and my daughter had just turned 4 years old last month. My daughter has attended daycare since she was 6-months old and has never had a problem with her teacher or making friends. I felt this "teacher" was very unprofessional and was socially inadequate in the way she spoke to others. I immediately took my daughter out. She is incredibly happy in her new school and has had no issues making friends. I have heard from two other spouses that they had to remove their kids from this location as well within the last month due to ongoing issues. Aside from the lack of professionalism, the front desk is VERY disorganized. read more

My son has been coming to Country Home for a little over 2 years now and my daughter for almost a year. I have loved all the teachers that have worked with my children. The teachers have loved on them and treated them as if they're their own. However, the director and assistant director have been the reason I am always talking about how great Country Home is. Not only do they love my children, but they have also supported myself through some difficult times. We have loved the summer activites and the winter festivities. I have nothing but praise for the teachers and educational experience. And we felt safe having our child in their care. However, leaving our car unattended was another thing, altogether. We recently endured the violation of a vehicle burglary while retrieving our child, and that is our reason for this post. We feared the poor security situation at Country Home, so we left and enrolled our child with another provider. In the spirit of full disclosure, we were parked in a lot not owned by Country Home, but often utilized by parents during peak hours. Also, the Executive Director has already ensured me necessary improvements are being made, and the surveillance system is once again operable...but too little, too late. I submitted a detailed letter explaining why, and this is a summary. We no longer feel safe bringing our daughter to this facility. After our vehicle was burglarized in broad daylight, we informed the staff. They told us that this has happened quite often; yet, until then, we had never heard about such crimes happening to the parents while picking-up their children (regardless of where they parked). I urged the Director to tell all the parents about the danger. She resisted. Only after contacting her supervisor were the parents individually notified. However, this took a full week, and during that time, another parent's vehicle was burglarized. Both property violations could have been avoided had management proactively and aggressively notified the parents of the crime problem. Two weeks later, I learned that the exterior surveillance system was not functioning. After three business day's, the Director had failed to place sufficient emphasis on the problem, and the system still wasn't fixed. At that point, we decided to take our daughter elsewhere, summarizing: These are the reasons we can no longer entrust our daughter to your care at this location: 1. Numerous acts of vehicle break-ins and thefts committed against CHLC clients 2. Failure to effectively and proactively notify parents of crimes committed against other parents during the act of dropping-off or picking-up their children 3. Lack of sufficient and operable surveillance equipment trained on CHLC parking areas 4. Lack of sufficient security lighting in parking areas during the hours of darkness In the letter, we continued with: "We are very appreciative of the care, nurturing, and education your staff provided our daughter for over two and a half years. Your teachers are very professional, knowledgeable, respectful, attentive, courteous, patient, and all-around fantastic! We will truly miss them all." "I contacted the Child Development Centers at both JBSA-Randolph and JBSA-Ft. Sam Houston and informed them of our safety and security concerns at your facility. I asked that they no longer recommend your location as an off-base alternative for child care, pending the necessary security improvements. I also intend to post this letter in its entirety to Angie's List, Yelp.com, and any other relevant websites I can find.... These efforts are intended to inform current and prospective parents of the risks associated with your facility, to notify others who should be aware of your security failings, and to prevent another family from experiencing the same avoidable violation that we continue to suffer." So, here's the bottom line: the teachers are fantastic and the program is 1st-rate. But parents should be very aware of the risks associated with parking in the adjacent parking lots, and the lack of timely and adequate warnings issued to the parents. By the way, I'm surprised by Gretchen L.'s post about "plenty of parking." Certainly not true during peak hours (in my opinion). Check it out for yourselves. Finally, do some more research and look up the "gun-in-a-backpack" security incident in late March 2012 (reported by media a month later). Lots of info available on-line. Turns out, the management then was the same management that failed to timely and effectively respond to our security concerns this time. Lots of conflicting details from 2012... ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!! My daughter went to CHCL for less than six months before we removed her same day! Everybody who meets are daughter says she's very sweet and gentle. During stay at CHCL she was constantly getting hurt(which I know happens) however our daughter was BIT FOUR TIMES ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS BY THE SAME CHILD!! The staff at CHCL refused to do anything to help assure the safety of our child! Two of the bites left red marks for DAYS AND ONE EVEN BROKE THE SKIN! In my opinion, this child should have been, at a minimum removed from the classroom, if not expelled. Seems pretty damn obvious he has a problem! After the second time, the administrators told us that the biter was being removed from school, IT NEVER HAPPEN! IT WAS SMOKE AND MIRRORS! We pulled out daughter out halfway through our tuition payment(you pay two weeks in advance) trying to get a prorated refund is like pulling teeth! We seem to encounter MORE SMOKE AND MIRRORS! YOU CANNOT TRUST THE DIRECTORS OF THIS PLACE! I would stay away from CHCL. They seem to have no interest in keeping ones child safe, IN FACT THIER MISSION AND VISION DOESNT SAY ONE WORD ABOUT!!! We have been a member of the country home family for almost 4 years. We love the staff & teachers they go above and beyond. It is a perfect balance of learning and fun! I couldn't imagine leaving my babies with anyone else. Every daycare has "issues" on Occasion, the difference here is the open door policy with the directors and staff. If you have a problem all you need to do is speak up and the staff will help resolve it as soon as possible. There is no other choice for my family! read more

I love the thought of my Country Home watching my daughter as I'm working. I just recently have gone back...my two year old step daughter had been there for over a year before her father and I split up, and I enjoyed many wonderful experiences. She would come home and sing her songs that she learned, naming of colors to things, and receiting books of Eric Carle outloud. Our daughter just turned 14 months and I started thinking about bringing her to a daycare-I didn't hesitate for long. This used to be an outstanding daycare center 8 months ago and then steadily began to decline. Do not use this center if your child has any kind of special needs no matter how minor.  They do not understand nor do they train their staff on caring for special needs children.  For the cost, I expected more from them. They disappointed me and failed for my child. Do not yse them, especially if it is a type of special need that is emotional or social. They only focus on what you can see such as physical ailments.  Additionally, this center has a poor history with communicable diseases.  In the year and a half that my children have attended, there have been a minimum of five cases of head lice in the toddler rooms, three cases of hand-foot-mouth in the infant rooms (which I actually got myself) and a few other rash-like illnesses.  They stress safety precautions for hand washing and the spread of germs, but it is evident that something is not working.  Be aware if your child has a food allergy as well.  You will be providing the alternative meals and there will some staff that mistakenly give your child the wrong food.  Most of this is due to very high staff turnover in the last six months to include the departure of the long-time director.  They have a lot of great "stuff", like the splashdeck, diner, and indoor playground, but as the most expensive daycare in the area, they ought to be more concerned with meeting the developmental needs of the individual children (social, emotional, physical, or cognitive) in their care and not the business status quo or hidden agendas of the center or company.  My kids are now much happier and ALL of their needs are being met at a smaller center without all of the fancy "stuff" and at a cheaper price.  Imagine that, meet the needs of the child and they will thrive!...It is unfortunate that CHLC Toepperwein doesn't understand that.  Their inability to meet the emotional needs of the children, and the training for their staff to meet those needs as well, is their downfall. read more

My daughter only made it here for one week due to the horrible care. This was my first time ever leaving my baby so I wanted to stay with her for some of the first day, especially during nap time to make sure she would go to sleep without a huge fuss. The paper work they give you as you apply clearly states that parents are welcome at any time to check on their children, but when I asked to stay and help my child get accustomed they said no. I was told parents are allowed, but only in the hallway not in the classrooms because we would distract the teachers. Then I sent all of my daughters food/drink with her as she has allergies. This place could not manage to simply place her food in front of her and let her eat, it came back full every day, meaning she didn't eat all day or they were giving her food I told them she could not have. One day they told me she wouldn't eat so they left her sitting at the table by herself for and hour and a half!! Neglect! By the third day there she came home and was vomiting all over the place from the food they were feeding her! By the fourth day when I picked her up and put her in the car, I noticed a HUGE bruise on her forehead. This was the worst injury she had ever had, it was the size of my whole hand and they didn't mention a thing to me. So I ran back inside and demanded they look at the bruise and tell me what happened, They looked and pretended to see nothing and said, "oh maybe I see something little." It was massive!! I asked why they let me leave without telling me and once again asked what happened. They said they had no idea she got hurt and they she never cried out. Yeah right, my baby cries for a tiny injury, she probably wailed for 15 minutes, meaning no one was around to see what happened or they know exactly what happened and wouldn't tell me. I still to this day have no idea what happened, but I think she fell off the changing table because it was so big! That was the last straw, we pulled her out that day! They were so rude about the whole thing, about me wanting to stay and comfort my daughter, about feeding her the food I brought and about as pulling her out because they were incompetent to take care of her. How hard is it to feed a child and keep her safe!!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!! read more
