I was in town for work, and was looking for breakfast options besides the nearby chain places, and Yelp led me to this. Glad I made the walk. The food was great - large portions served hot. Make sure and order some biscuits and gravy. Although the service took a minute to get up to speed (I think I slipped in under their radar), once they realized I was there it was fast and friendly. Lots of local/repeat customers, everyone seemed to know everyone else by name, which was comforting. Ambience/building-wise the whole place is a little worn-in around the edges, but that's just fine. I think there is one biscuit there for each order, amongst the crumbs. If you make that mistake once okay, but you did that for both orders. Too far to go back and complain. Last attempt at letting this restaurant redeem themselves. As locals we understand that sometimes our businesses will have bad days, that's where forgiveness is important. However, yesterdays attempt to give KK another try to redeem themselves was an utter complete fail from walking in, the food, the attitude filled servers, and the waiting to be seated. To the hostess/server giving us attitude and not bringing our menus to the table after we requested them. We had been sitting there while people who came in after us were served. We were overlooked several times during our visit. Whether intentional or not, it's absolutely egregious to negatively interface with customers that are paying to be there! To start, we ordered 2 coffees with water and 1 tea for 3 people. I was told that it would take 10 minutes to make coffee because they ran out. As I had a clear view of the restaurant, I watched 5 females scramble around and do a whole lot of nothing while no one was making new coffee. When the coffee was made the two girls who knew we were waiting on coffee took the fresh carafes and filled other cups of customers who were done eating, and we're waiting on our first cup. Literally, thirty minutes later a server was walking by with a coffee cup and carafe, to which I stopped and asked for the cup of coffee and told her we're still waiting on one more. In 30 minutes the only thing we got was coffee, tea and water. We hadn't even ordered our food yet because the server hadn't been by our table! We thought the first girl who seated us was our server and it actually was someone completely different. Our server finally made it to our table to take our order. It was a pretty simple order with no dish being modified. Our order was in and now we wait with no follow up with anyone to fill our drinks. I he to lean over to the empty booth behind to grab Splenda because nobody came to check on us! Food: The food was absolutely not palatable!! After another 30 minutes of waiting (1 hour) all of our food came out cold, undercooked, or overcooked. I like my bacon crispy so that was good other than the fact it was ice cold. I ordered sourdough toast on the side for $3.99 which I never received but was charged for and I don't realize that because my husband paid for the bill. The hash browns were stale, cold and over cooked. My husbands biscuits and gravy were disgustingly horrid to even taste because the gravy was cold, with absolutely no flavor. My nephews warm croissant sandwich was burnt, with a slab of cheese that wasn't melted. Overall, the meals and staff interaction were not worth my time or money. We've given KK several chances and they just can't help but repeat themselves. They used to be good and in the last 4 years they have seriously gone straight to the dumpster. Finally, it's unfortunate reviews like this have to be written especially when you give fourth and fifth chances to redeem yourself. Honestly, there's a lack of supervision and direction. There's seems to be no one in charge who knows how to run a staff and they was made in abundantly clear as I watched the servers or hostesses stand around. The amount of servers in that place was more than enough to accommodate customers. It was laziness and lack of work ethic on everyone's part. And the owner, isn't doing the best job at hiring quality people! I don't pay to be treated less than when I'm extremely nice even in these types of situation. Furthermore, we will never go back there and eat unless we see a sign that says "under new management/ownership". How sad this is the quality of restaurants we have in R-Town. Save your cheat meal for something better. We were seated at 10:13a.m. And didn't get our food until 11:00.. the corn beef hash was delicious but the pancakes were super dense not delicious at all. And scrambled eggs were not fluffy at all and was over cooked. Not sure if it was just us but a lot of the staff was a bit odd and the other customers must not see Asians too often because at least twice they did a double take and looked at us. I have to say the chicken fried steak was definitely ginormous and the portion was huge! But I honestly felt it was too much breading. I would not say this was a place that'I'd keep coming back to. I like the fact that they have a senior menu. First impression. Not great, I use to come here and it was full of fun, nice service, amazing food. Now is dirty, flies, the server eating pizza wile we were waiting for our menu. After 30min they took our order and finally got the food and it was cold. I really don't understand why this time and final time it was awful. Do NOT bother calling in for a take out order. 10 months into a pandemic, they should be an expert with phone orders but it's the complete opposite. I called in November 2020 and was greeted with an automated message that they can't take calls. Fine... just took my order to another local small business nearby. New Years Day 2021 8:25am, a woman on the phone asks for me to hold for a minute. 5 minutes on hold, while I can hear every conversation that lady is having in the background, I decide to call back. A few weeks we stopped by the Kountry Kitchen and about 1pm during the week. When we arrived there was two table occupied. one had two people almost done and they other had at least 5 and were done as well. A young female waitress came over and i ordered an iced tea and my wife a coffee and a fruit juice. Quickly, she bought my wife her drinks and a water for me. She dropped it off so quick i didn't have a chance to remind her of the iced tea so i went over to where she was standing asked if i could an iced tea as well. she brought it right over. We then ordered a sandwich and i ordered the dinner portion of fish and chips with onion rings coleslaw and instead of French fries. I've had that many times before and is always great. After we ordered a large table came in about 10 minutes later. We waited 50 minutes for the food to be dropped off at the table. We had consumed our drinks and NO one checked on us or told us WHY things were taking so long. Before me was a plate with 4 greasy pieces of unbattered fish and French fries plus a plate of onion rings.. She left so quickly i had to once again get up and remind her of the coleslaw which she brought. I told her i was unhappy with the fish. i told its usually battered and very good. she told me that the way i got it was" how it always is" i told i did not want it and she was not happy. My wife ate her sandwich and the bill was dropped off with nothing said. Today my fiancé and I wanted to check out this place for a quick bite to eat because we've driven by it many times when visiting Ramona. We walked in and right off the bat, we hear a waitress within earshot talking to another waitress say, "I am NOT taking any more tables today." So that was not a super welcoming vibe from the beginning because overhearing disgruntled employees is a great way to greet your guests! Ladies- take the venting in the back and away from the customers? Just a thought. The other waitress, who gave us no kind of greeting other than a scowl on her face asked how many in our group and showed us our table. My fiancé asked very nicely if it were possible to get a booth. We scanned the room and looked over at a couple of spots that were available and I pointed over to one. She snapped at me and said, "NO. That one is reserved!" Well, okay then! Didn't know you could make reservations at this establishment, didn't see any kind of table marker saying that is was reserved and didn't know I was coming into a diner today for lunch to feel stupid! Her attitude was absolutely uncalled for and unprofessional. I'm very understanding and sympathetic to employees that are hard workers, tired and understaffed (I've been in your shoes, I get it!)- but don't come right off with a rude demeanor just because you're having a crappy day. That's not my fault. So we sat down, looked at our menus, waited, no one came by to say, "We'll by right with you" or "Can I take your drink orders?", much less even bring us some waters. Nope. 10 minutes go by and all we get is this icy vibe. I see a group of 3 that come in. They get seated and no joke, literally within a few minutes of sitting down, not one but TWO waitresses are at their table helping them and taking their drink orders! So needless to say, that was it for us. My fiancé walked out first to get the car started and I followed him soon after. We will not be returning to this restaurant. We gave you guys a try and you totally blew it. We wanted to give you our business and money but it will go elsewhere in Ramona. For future guests that want to visit this place, you've been warned. Ahhh, nothing beats a home cooked breakfast you didn't have to prepare yourself. On a road trip back to OC after camping, we wanted to get fed before hitting traffic. My handy dandy Yelp app led us here and lucky us, they reserved a table for our big party after telling them we were on our way. Clearly the place was popular as I saw crowds of people waiting to get seated when we walked in straight to our table. Call ahead if you can. It was a busy morning. It took a while for our orders to be taken and for the food to come out. We also knew the dishes were made fresh as we devoured almost everything despite the huge portions. Definitely go for the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK ($13.75) as it was hearty and delicious with a generous slathering of gravy. Although the fries (cubed potatoes) on the side didn't look as appetizing, they were scrumptious. EGGS BENEDICT and THE STACK were the two next best things ($13.25/ea). They are very similar to each other with poached eggs and ham, the only difference is the latter using hash browns as the starch instead of an English muffin. For lunch I selected the Ortega Dip - a hot sandwich composed of sliced roast beef, tangy ortega chilis, lots of oozing swiss cheese, grilled onions with a cup of au jus. I switched sweet potato fries for regular ones. My mom ordered herbal tea, a thick slice of french toast with an egg; she mentioned the inside of french toast was under cooked. Note: I was pleased to see both multigrain pancakes and waffles on their menu. I will have to try those the next time I am in town seeking a hot breakfast. This was our first time stopping by this restaurant and based on the reviews I didn't expect the experience we were in for. The only reason I'm leaving this review is because three other tables around us were complaining about their experiences as well. To start, we told the host it was a party of 4 and she points to a table with only 3 chairs. Not a problem, just had to ask her again for an extra chair. We sat down and 10 minutes went by without anyone dropping off menus. I saw other tables get seated and get their menus right away, so I asked for the menus from the host as I brushed it off because they were busy. Not a great start but it's typical things for a busy restaurant so we didn't take it to heart. This is where I knew things were not going to get better. The table to the left of us looked upset and were commenting on the bad service. It took 30 minutes to put in a food order to our server. In the meantime we had a host who was pretty attentive and honestly she was the only reason we decided to stay as she would come around and check in from time to time. It took another 30-40 minutes to get our food...more than an hour we had been waiting from when we sat to when we got *most* of our plates. The table behind us started complaining about wrong orders and I knew we were about to experience the same. My family got all of their plates while it took me two times of reminding our server that I still hadn't received mine for her to bring it over. She brings it over and it is wrong. At this point I'm hungry and irritated and not taking the chance on waiting another 30 minutes to have it fixed so I eat the part that was right and take home the other half. Working in the food industry myself, there were a lot of red flags. From the numerous hostesses just standing at the front to not enough cooks in the back, it seemed like there was a lack of management which caused a lot of chain reaction issues. I understand restaurants get busy but the lack of organization made it a pretty bad experience. Even if the hostesses would have held back from seating everyone and created a waitlist with honest times of when you would get your food, I would have respected that more. Then I would have known the kitchen was backed up and it would take an hour to eat, instead of basically being kept there for an unknown amount of time just because a table was empty. read more

I don't know what has happened but i was super excited to go since moving from ramona, I ordered the 6oz sirloin and the meat was SPOILED. Don't know why so many great reviews. I know Sunday mornings are busy, but it's been over 30 min to get our food and asking (nicely) the angry teenage girl who is our waitress only made it worse. On top of that when she finally brought the food my friend had received his eggs and bacon but no pancakes....when we asked about his pancakes she angrily told us that they ran out of pancake batter and it would be "five more minutes"....I'm like, you could have told us! Hmmm... inside is so cozy and beautiful... very nice staff. Unfortunately that's where the positive comes to an end. Here are the issues we experienced: 1) 30 minute wait after ordering to receive our food - wasn't too packed . No communication from staff as to when food would arrive or why so late ... touching base would have been a nice touch. 2) my wife asked for her hash browns to be well done . They came out bland oily and the opposite of well done (after 30 minutes of waiting). 3) chicken fried steak came out burned and soaked in sauce . Average tasting but couldn't get past the burn... Exceptional customer service, except I don't even want to call it customer service because it just felt like coming to an extended relative's house and chatting with family. Our server went above and beyond to make sure we had a nice experience; even bringing 2 scoops of ice cream and spoons because she knew we were sharing. Summary of my visit. Seated in a booth by the window that was so aged and cracked that wearing shorts was extremely uncomfortable. It was like sitting on alligator skin. I am stunned that such a booth exists. Looked at the menu. Not a big meat eater. There really wasn't much on the menu to accommodate that style of eating. Settled upon the dinner salad. No silverware on the table, so when the food came a delay occurred until the waitress was tagged. Per the menu, the salad included avocado, as well as baked bread. No avocado on provided salad, and no baked bread provided. Waitress was asked about this and said avocado only came with the added on dinner salad (and she would get baked bread). I said that was not stated on the menu, i.e., avocado. Menu stated generous amounts were provided. Not so with the dinner salad. Baked bread, which I was told would feed three to four, was a disappointment. It looked like a flattened roll of some type that was over microwaved and really would have only been sufficient for one. Fool me twice, shame on me. Have been here on a few occasions, and the service staff routinely seem annoyed, every time. Today, we waited at the check in counter for someone...anyone to acknowledge us, and direct us to a table, even though there were THREE staff there! We gave up and found a table on our own. Someone came over and brought us menus, got us coffee, and told us our server would be over to take our order; she showed up 10 minutes later to take our order. We waited for our food a LONG TIME, and we couldn't help but notice that a couple who had come in and were seated well after we were, they received their food ~ 5 minutes before us. ‍ While waiting, we had occasion to notice numerous house flys in the windows, and a less than appetizing way the service staff clear the tables by dumping leftovers in pre-staged buckets in the dining room, then the soiled plates in a bin for all to see! Food finally arrived; Kountry Potatoes were hard and not even warm. The pancake, while sizable, was likewise not warm. One note on ambiance...the ceilings here are hard and low. If the restaurant is full, you have to almost yell to be heard, or to hear anyone else in your party. We are Ramona residents, and we prefer to support local businesses. Came in here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Servers were pretty nice and they have a large menu. I would say food was average. I got an omelette with hash browns on the sides. We recently had a disappointing experience here. This was our first time at kountry kitchen since so many people said the food was great. The food was decent but not worth the price tag and an hour wait for our food. If we had a larger group, I would understand but for just two people is a little ridiculous. I believe it was the manager who came to our table and began making excuses for the wait. Stating that the reason they were slow was because high school students were graduating so families are in town and that was causing the wait? It didn't make any sense and I would have respected just an apology and an acknowledgment of the long wait. But for it to just be excuses and no acknowledgement is just there were other tables that got up and left because they had been waiting so long after ordering.
