Wynn's Diner for the win! If you're looking for a local Waffle House, Wynn's Diner on New Leicester Hwy is it. Welcoming, kind, and personable staff made sure we felt at home from the second we walked through the door. They're open 7am-2pm, so we were totally stoked to find a full menu served all day. I craved pancakes, and these hit the spot! Interesting cheesy hash brown bites with Sriracha aioli punctuated this carb-centered indulgence. Companion had a huge omelette with some great sides, including a legitimately sized hot coffee. (Context: we've been so tired of wimpy-sized cups of coffee, and Wynn's came through like caffeine champs.) We arrived around 8;30 or so on a Saturday morning and found a booth right away. Within minutes our server arrived and took our drink order. Coffee and water was brought quickly and our order was taken. I ordered pancakes, sausage, hash browns, and a biscuit. My wife ordered a kitchen sink type omelette minus the mushrooms. Service was fast and spot on with our order. The pancakes were hot and fluffy. Matter of fact, everything was hot and fresh and arrived in less than 7 minutes. Okay, so, this is not a knock or me saying the food wasn't good. It was average. To me, everything was pretty bland. First bite of hash browns I took, I tasted butter but by the end, just greasy. Again, that isn't a knock. I love breakfast diners like this for that reason. But, there really was very little flavor in any of my food. Pancakes were fluffy but nothing outstanding. Biscuit was good but again, nothing special. Sausage had the most flavor of anything I ate. My wife loved her omelette and commented on how packed it was with the ingredients. The service was very good and overall I enjoyed the food. Would I go back if I was going through Asheville again? Probably not. It was fine but nothing more than that. read more

The best server we had all weekend for our little weekend getaway! This is a modern Waffle House, nothing fancy but AWESOME breakfast! Hubby got the biscuit and gravy with eggs and hash browns. Love the atmosphere here. All of the food was amazing. Pancakes are super thick and fluffy. Eggs cooked exactly to order - fried over medium were perfection. Biscuits were beautiful and fluffy. We had a party of 7 and walked in at 10:30 am on a Saturday morning. We didn't have to wait long for two side by side booths to open. We ordered so much food! Our server was great. Some of the friendliest people in all of asheville. Only open until 2 but that's perfect breakfast time anyway (even though I love the breakfast for dinner option sometimes) They have a ton of options- veggie friendly ones too. Great eggs and hash browns. Super fluffy pancakes. All made with love. When the manager is behind the counter making stuff, you know it's good. Inside is very clean but rustic and full of character. Have been here several times & have not been disappointed. The grandkids love the blueberry pancakes. There are an assortment of toppings and fruit for these. Enjoy the omelettes and the fries on the flipside my partner in crime can get what I call the breakfast burger with a fried egg and it never disappoints the service is friendly and they do their best. Came to Wynn's for breakfast. What a pleasant surprise; delicious food and exceptional service from the owners' son. He was extremely pleasant, patient and helpful. Wait staff are very nice, but the "owner" is very rude and disrespectful!! I have a service animal and have been in with him several times with no issues, but all of a sudden she made it an issue this time. She is not service animal friendly and is very rude and made a huge scene about it for the whole restaurant to hear. I will not be going back there ever again. I will support other businesses that are welcoming. The dog was on the floor never touched a table or chair. read more

This place is perfect. First off, the ambiance is everything you would want in a diner. You know a diner is fantastic when 80% of the people in there look like AARP members. We went for breakfast but had to try the fries and they were the perfect crunchy outside-soft inside fries I've ever tasted. The pancakes were so fluffy and light, same goes for the waffle. The ATW hashbrowns were delicious, and I was so appreciative that they already came with onions, mushrooms, and peppers mixed in. They were heaven. The staff were very nice and just overall an amazing establishment. If I wasn't from out of town I'd be getting breakfast here every weekend, and it wouldn't even break the bank! If I visit Asheville again I'll definitely be back! read more

As much as I love eating at diners it's sometimes a bit of a risk. You never know what to expect even when others have given mostly positive reviews. Wynn's is one of those unassuming places that didn't disappoint us! We got breakfast. I like my eggs over medium, and many places don't get them right. They end up over easy liquid or hard cooked and dry. My eggs at Wynn's were cooked perfectly. The bacon was tasty and cooked just as I like it, and the grits (after some addition of salt and butter) were very good. Our coffee cups were never empty and our wait person was friendly and attentive. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits to Asheville! read more

The manager (Josh) is very rude and doesn't care about accuracy of orders or customer satisfaction. I called in a take out order at 1:26pm, for two Philly cheesesteaks and one to be without onions w ranch on the side. Someone picked that order up for me and when I got it, they both had onions. I called back at 2:10. The woman who answered was very nice and asked the staff if they would remake it. My friend took the onion covered sandwich back that was supposed to be remade and was denied AT THE DOOR. I called and this Josh person was rude and had an attitude saying they're closed & too bad. This place used to be great. Must be new management. I'm sick and can't go out so now I know Wynns has fallen off of the list of good businesses in the area. What a shame. read more

The service was great, I walked in and felt like I stepped back into the 50's. My son and I were immediately greeted when we were seated. The lovely waitress came and took our orders promptly. There is such a variety on the menu and SO many vegetarian options at a diner I was in Heaven. I chose the veggie omelette cooked to perfection and the cheesy hash brown bites which everyone needs in their life. My son got a grilled egg and cheese and the bites as well and we were very well pleased. Prices are good and service was better. We are new to town but will be back for many meals to come! read more

Definitely "off the beaten path". We visited the area this fall to do some apple picking. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the local culture. That meant a visit to a local, backroads diner. Wynn's certainly fits the bill. The staff was mostly friendly. I think many of them could've been more attentive. Maybe because they were so busy they just didn't have the time for idle chat. The place is certainly a hit. It was packed when we walked in and stayed that way the entire time with a waiting line out the door. The kitchen area was bustling with lots of staff throughout. It wasn't especially clean, but not far off from what you see at Waffle House for example. On that subject, the place looks like it replaced what was once a Waffle House. It has almost the exact same layout inside. It sure does get cramped though, when it's crowded like it was. The food was, in my opinion, nothing special. The eggs were standard along with the grits and even the Texas toast. The bacon was thin and not unlike what you'd find in a grocery store to cook at home. Prices aren't bad though. Again, right around the price of Waffle House too. Although I have to say, Waffle House might have them beat. There are perhaps some other enticing menu items worth giving a try. Take for example the cowboy chili. Seems pretty legit! I don't imagine I will be back though. Even if I found myself in the area again, Wynn's just wasn't my thing. read more
