These guys have the best customer service I've seen in ages! Super friendly people. When I told them about my transmission problems over the last 6 years, having it rebuilt twice already by Cottman, they offered to extend the warranty for no additional charge if they rebuilt it. While they had the transmission out, they took pictures of everything, checked items that are more easily accessible when the transmission is out, and showed me everything they found. They even fixed a couple other small items they found at a reasonable price. As an added bonus, I had a rental car from Enterprise and, since Enterprise has work on their vehicles done in the same business park, I was allowed to just leave my rental car with County Transmissions instead of dropping it off at Enterprise! Having a transmission rebuilt is never a pleasant or easily affordable expense, but having County Transmission do the work, at least makes it a less stressful experience. My 1955 Packard Clipper was experiencing slippage on my way home from Charlottesville. I was able to get it home and drive it to County Transmission. Equipped as it is with Packard's complicated Twin-Ultramatic automatic transmission, I knew there was no simple solution, such as swapping out transmissions. As I feared, Hampton told me that he had determined that my transmission would need to be rebuilt. Not many transmission shops have the capability of successfully working on a transmission such as the one in the Clipper, but I felt assured that Hampton and his crew knew exactly what they were doing and had the experience to work on a 1950s transmission. He researched the 1955 Packard shop manual on Packardinfo.com, took his time, and completed the job perfectly. The Bumblebee runs like a champion now, shifting smoothly with no slippage. I have used County Trans twice. Most recently the past week. They turned around a transmission rebuild in 1 day, and that means a lot when you're running a business that involves having your vehicles on the road. The prior time was around 5 years ago - they rebuilt a transmission on a vehicle that I recently donated to charity - transmission was still running fine 5 years later. They are among the top names in the area for transmissions, and the only place that I will go. They're not cheap, by the way - I spent $3.5k; but if you don't know better than to fix your transmission on the cheap, then my advice is not for you. INCIDENTALLY - Something unique and worth noting. They offer a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. That's a big deal. I never heard of a repair shop offering anything like that. There's an extra charge, but the fact that they offer it at all speaks volumes about the confidence in their workmanship. The normal warranty (no extra charge) is 3 yrs/36k mi, which is also very good for a repair shop. read more

How you can tell what a good mechanic or car shop is by how busy they are, and this place is jammed pack. I had to make an appointment and even reservation basically to get a spot in advanced. It's tucked away in the back next to bunch of mechanic shops but this one has a sign right smack in the middle of the front. Can't miss it unless you can't read. They are very friendly and know what they are doing I saw the back and saw them taking every single phone call and boy, there were so many phones ringing. My 2004 Mercury Marauder developed a shuddering issue, with the vehicle vibrating after shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear in the low RPM range. It's a known issue for the car that has a plethora of possible causes, transmission being one of them. The County Transmission guys ran a diagnostic test and determined the likely culprit--an engine misfire caused by the either spark plugs or coils. Before they started any work they told me the power-train was still under manufacturer warranty and told me I should take it to the dealer to get it done for free. I ended up needing a whole new transmission which the dealer did for free under warranty. [Updated] I had my car towed here after the clutch failed on the interstate nearby. I was puzzled, because my regular mechanic had just repaired it by replacing the master cylinder. I reported this to the shop. Owing to some confusion on both sides, the shop replaced the same part and, not surprisingly, the car was not fixed. An employee apologized and offered me a discount. I am very pleased with my experience here! The staff were all very friendly and honest. I took my car here to have diagnostics run at the request of my mechanic. They called a rental for me from the local enterprise (discount rate) and completed the diagnostic work the same day. They found no issues after running the codes and taking the car out on the road. I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and recently had warning lights come on indicating the 4Wheel Drive System needed service. The check engine warning light came on as well. My primary mechanic referred me to County Transmission, because the 4Wheel Drive warning light indicator was a repair they did not handle. I called County Transmission and spoke with Mike, who I believe is the owner's son and dropped the car off that night. Mike called me back early the next day to confirm that is was just the warning lights I was having issues with, then called me back early in the afternoon and told me the 4Wheel Drive System was in good order. A big relief! He said my Jeep just needed some fluids topped off to clear the check engine light. We made arrangements to have the Jeep left for pick-up with the key and invoice locked inside. Mike told me no charge, just come back when/if I really needed some transmission work done. Does anyone in business do that anymore??? Obviously, time was spent checking the warning lights, clearing the warning lights, and someone also spent time toping off fluids. Time and material was spent working on my Jeep, at no charge. I took my 2012 GMC Acadia back to County transmissions for a more serious problem than the one I had brought it to them for previously. I had a dealer look into the previous problem. The dealer charged me a bunch of money, and the problem returned about a year later. Now I have a much more serious problem. County Transmissions was unable to locate this serious wiring and or system problem and suggested another shop to look at it. They delivered it for me and did not charge me. I cannot recommend them highly enough as a trustworthy shop. read more

I have a 66 Corvette in excellent shape. Its my baby and I needed some transmission work and a new clutch. I do not take my vehicle to just anyone. I was referred to Country Transmission and worked with Hampton. I am pretty knowledgeable about my car and Hampton gave me a fair estimate of up to 1800 if I recall. He was replacing a tailhousing, replacing a clutch, fixing my speedo and putting on my neutral/reverse safety switch. I dropped the car off on Monday afternoon. I provided the parts. He called me a day later, informed me that I had purchased a clutch that was the wrong size. He obtained the correct lux clutch at a very fair price. He was completely transparent and honest about a normal markup. Picked the car up on Friday and its drives great and I cannot say enough about this family shop's honesty and professionalism. They were great and my bill was 1200--over 600 less than the estimate. Its very difficult in this area for some reason, to find great shops who are honest. I only wish Hampton and his guys did more mechanical work as well. As another example, I called and I think I spoke to Michael. I asked about possibly replacing the trans fluid on my 97 Land Cruiser, which has 180 K miles. He actually recommended against it for some very good reasons. Ok. Two experiences with them. First was a 1994 Taurus wagon. It would not come out of 2nd gear. Dropped it off. Got a call a few hours later to pick it up. They punched in new codes and it ran for at least 5 more years. How much? Oh no charge sir. Dropped off a 6 pack. Today a 15 yr old sable w only 90k. Before I had car towed there they gave me worst case estimate over phone. I said the car wasn't worth that. If it was worst case would they let car sit until it was picked up by charity. No charge. Michael is one of the most cheerful and friendliest people I've dealt with in a long time -- and so honest! A problem I thought would cost hundreds or even thousands to repair turned out to be a simple fix. When I asked Michael what I owed, he said, "I can't in good conscience charge you for such a simple fix." Definitely made my month! They could have made something up. I have a lot of friends in Vienna who are business owners and whom I have known for more than 10 years. They play in, but after I placed my truck in County's hands for a full tranny rebuild. A small local repair shop in Burke Va recommended County as completely competent. Since this Burke repair shop gets a lot of work from me as I operate 5 vehicles, I trust them from my experience with them. So in went the truck. As soon as it was in, I had to visit a couple of the local businesses in Vienna that I know so very well, and I mentioned County to them. They immediately responded as to how old County was, first off. But more importantly, each of them had entrusted several vehicles for transmission work and rebuild over three different decades. I did not know they were an "old salt" at this line of work. Now, I know. I am a month post rebuild. They were also kind enough to get the engine rear mainseal at the same time. Oil consumption now is cut more than in half, the engine has more than 200K original miles on it, this is more than I hoped for. Most of all, their work on the transmission appears to have returned this vehicle back to like-new performance. I got 200k+ miles on the original transmission and used synthetics throughout. The rear end was inspected after County completed their work, where I also use synthetic and the report is the gearbox is amazingly well preserved. Considering this is a Dodge Dakota, I am amazed at Dodge' improvement over the years and even more amazed County nailed it. So there you go. Just one voice, but a very happy customer who will bring his next vehicle in need of transmission work to County, with no hesitation. 6 stars to these fine people. LOL! read more

I brought my car for what I determined was an intermittent transmission or drivetrain problem. I left it for a day and the mechanic personally called and said he checked it out and couldn't get the problem to occur. I reasonably expected a bill for his time. He said that if the problem happened again to bring it back, but they didn't think it was the transmission or drivetrain. They repaired my transmission and transfer case in 2014. Did a great job. A year later I went back to have them make a quick check to make sure everything was still okay. They quickly checked out the car and took it for a test drive. Everything seemed fine. Today I went back to have them checkout a leak. I had been told that the transfer case was leaking. The checked out the car and determined that the leak was actually in another part of the car. They cleaned up the car and checked all of the fluids. All done in 30 minutes for no cost. I thought my transmission was "slipping" and had County Transmission techs take a look at it. They connected my transmission to their computer and test drove my vehicle. They had a bunch of vehicles outside that they were working on, so I had to leave my vehicle overnight. They were nice enough to give me a ride to my site of employment in Vienna,VA. After I spoke to the tech by phone that was assigned to my vehicle I requested that they perform a 60,000 mile service on my transmission which entails changing the transmission fluid, filter, and gasket. If you are looking for the best driveline shop in the area, look no further! I first found out about County from a few members at my gym that work here, and before I even set foot in or even called the shop, they answered all of my questions. Talk about customer service! Job #1: I was tired of my Grand Marquis' slow 'grandma-like' shifting, so I spoke to Hampton about doing a shift kit. Wow, what a difference! In less than two hours of labor, and the best price I could get anywhere I was driving off with a whole new vehicle. Way better than factory, and definitely one of the most worthwhile mods I've done to the car. Job #2: I had a problem with my old rear-differential assembly as it kept chewing through axles. So I scored a used one from the junk yard and had it put in at a different shop that had time same-day to install as it was sticking out of my trunk. Wow, what a headache that became. After 3 weeks of noises getting progressively worse, I knew it was time to visit County and ask for help. Hampton, friendly as always, told me what the problem was and what we needed to do. I'm so glad I talked to him, he was able to save that differential from a catastrophic failure and made it run as good as new. Wish I had just had him rebuild my original one to begin with! That's TWO jobs well done, and the best price in town for both. Not to mention you cannot find a friendlier staff and better communication. I dropped my car off for the first job and waited it out since it wouldn't take long, and left my car there all day for the second one. I did NOT expect to get it back the same day, but I was wrong! I recently had transmission issues with my truck and we made the mistake of taking it to another shop. The other shop misled us into a situation where they had removed the transmission from the vehicle - effectively trapping us there. Hampton and the staff at County went out of their way and WAY BEYOND what I would have ever expected them to do by providing advice and information to help us. Took my car to another repair shop and they recommended County Transmissions when they couldn't fix it. County diagnosed the problem (software update), but was unable to correct because Suzuki only permitted dealers to make these updates. Took my car to a Suzuki dealer that wanted to diagnose the issue first (and charge me). When I told them County Transmissions diagnosed it as a software update, the dealer said that was good enough for them and updated the trans software - problem fixed. While the dealer certianly charged me, County did not charge me anything! they even printed out the TSB to take to the dealer. Hampton was fantastic - they have me as a customer for life!
