Food was good. The lobster roll is not very big ($17) but it tasted good. I ended up getting a crab cake after finishing the lobster roll and it was good. I would skip the lobster roll and get just crab cakes if I went again. My husband got the fish sandwich and said it was good. It was also a very big serving. read more

I went here for lunch and had the lobster roll. It was good lobster but served on a tiny hot dog bun that was half filled with lettuce and had may 4oz of lobster tops. Maybe I have been living in TX too long, but for $14 I would expect a lot more than I got. I am going to try another place for the lobster roll experience. Very nice, but way too expensive. What a great little place that we found on accident! My boyfriend and I stopped in while we waited to check into our hotel and each had a wonderful cup of clam chowder. My boyfriend also had the chicken tender plate and it was so tasty. I was also so impressed with the service of the ladies that owned and worked it. Some little mom and pop places do not have great service, but this place was awesome. It is busy and she made a point to bring each customer their orders. Great food, and great service! Old school East Cambridge seafood joint. They have extremely high quality/ fresh fish since they also operate the seafood market next door. On Wednesdays, you can get the "super" fish and chips for the same price (extra fish). Any fish from the market can be cooked to order at the restaurant so grab something interesting! If you were bored and you might have read any of my reviews, you probably noticed one thing. I'm pulling for East Cambridge to come up in the world. It has by leaps and yards.......and I don't want every last ding dong to move here......but I want all the best for my little chunk of Cambridge. I know that city life, is city life...but a few more adjustments and this area would be heaven. One Bonus if you live here....Is this little gem. Courthouse Seafood. Yep. They sell seafood and are by the Courthouse. I think that is where they get the name. Seafood is ALWAYS FRESH. I am friendly with the owner since I frequent the shop more than once a week. Here is the scoop. They bring in their fish every day versus every Thursday at a Supermarket. It is SO fresh that I feel like my lobster and haddock are going to break out in a Rendition of "Under the Sea".....Quick! Go grab slutty mermaid Halloween costume 2004! And to boot, they added a little sitdown restaurant. IT might be "fast". It isn't gourmet. But damn is it good. I can highly recommend the baked haddock or the fish and chip.....good lord. How great is it to eat at a restaurant where you know full fledged 100% everything is FRESH from the Market....dur...its next door.............. HINT: Go right before they close. Thoroughly unimpressive fish and chips experience. Soggy, floppy fish with Stop & Shop quality steak fries. Typical D+ Boston seafood effort that naturally assumes it's good just because it's Boston. Fish and chips are supposed to be crisp and juicy not a floppy cafeteria sponge. The rating: I was up in the air on this rating until I actually started writing the review, then I started to try to figure out how soon I could get back there to eat again, so I just could not go lower than four stars. This place rocks pretty hard. Why we chose to eat here: I was jonesing for a lobster roll something fierce and had my choices down to Courthouse or Alive and Kicking, so I gave Ms. Sarah-pants the final say. I think it's obvious who she chose. The food: We each got an entree of which we both sampled. I ordered the lobster roll and Ms. Sarah-pants ordered the fried haddock dinner. First up the lobster roll, which I found to be quite near perfect. The roll was toasted perfectly with a buttery finish. The lobster was tender and fresh, though it may have had a touch too much mayo, it did little to detract from the sandwich and the major flavor players came shining through. The portion of lobster itself was good, especially for the price. You really can't beat a $13 lobster roll with fries. Sarah discovered that while she does not dislike lobster and can appreciate that it was tasty, overall the magic of lobster is lost on her in general. The magic of a perfectly fried piece of fish however is not. We both thoroughly enjoyed her haddock. It was fried beautifully, and while the oil could have been dried a bit better before being put in its takeaway box, the top crust was still crisp and the fish flaked apart just as a well cooked piece of fish should. Disclaimer: we did not eat in the restaurant but chose to bring it home. Had we eaten there it is possible her fish would have been even better. The fried haddock dinner included cole slaw and tartar sauce which incidentally does not come in the haddock n'chips plate but does not seem to justify the three dollar premium for the dinner. That aside, I enjoyed both the tartar sauce and coleslaw (Sarah does not eat either). Both of our meals came with fries which were perfectly serviceable, and as you would expect, paired up well with our New England oceanic treats, but you will most likely be adding your own salt. Our meal ended with a bowl of fish chowder. The chowder was middle of the road for both of us. The taste of fish was very mild and Sarah felt it was slightly peppery, though I thought the spice was needed. The texture was thick with plenty of potato and fish, but it seemed a little gummy as opposed to straight up creamy. Adding crackers to the chowder helped it out quite a bit but then, that is just how I like my chowder, with loads of crushed up crackers. The portion was bigger than I expected for the cost which offsets the shortcomings a bit but still, it was not the most impressive element of the meal. The service: Absolutely nothing but positive comments. The girl at the order counter was professional. Everything we ordered was accounted for by the staff before the bag was handed to us. Napkins, spoons and forks all in the bag. Top notch takeout. Also, it must be said that the place was impeccably clean. We were both impressed. It is not that we are used to frequenting dirty establishments but this was a cut above. When fried goods are your main staple grease tends to get onto things like counters, tables, etc. Whether by staff or customers or by happenstance a little grease just happens sometimes. But here everything was spotless. Every surface clean as a whistle. Especially at a seafood place cleanliness is important to me and Courthouse has set the bar. The final rundown: I hope I justified those four stars. I have found my new go-to place for yummy, fresh and reasonably priced seafood, I just can't believe it took me so long to discover this gem. read more

My family loves this place and we show up here at least once a month. Fresh, tasty yet inexpensive food, super nice staff that calls you "hon", and they have even switched from Styrofoam takeout containers to those compostable cardboard ones. We almost always get the fish and chips, but occasionally branch out to grilled Cajun bluefish or fried oysters. I think they put horseradish in the coleslaw, which is not how I like coleslaw, but the tartar sauce is awesome - that goes on my fries as well as the fish! Fresh fish starts here. I have been going to Courthouse Seafood before they opened the restaurant and sold the fried clams from the fish store. I can not remember ever having been served anything bad from this wonderful Portuguese family. The restaurant is such a convenience to people who don't have time to cook. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Kind of reminds me of the original Legal Sea Foods when they were in Inman Square. If I were going to have a meal in East Cambridge today Courthouse Seafood on Cambridge Street would be my first stop. read more

I can't speak about the restaurant as I've only visited the fish market. It's right down the street from New Deal, so you owe it to yourself to come here as well to do some comparison shopping. I might be mistaken but it seems the selection here at Court House is a little larger than at New Deal and the prices are slightly lower -- perfect price range for if you want to bake up a honkin' big fillet of something, which I usually do. They also carry a lot of Portuguese staples that you might need to go with your fish, as well as any sausages (linguica or chourico). I got some pollack from here, absolutely fantastic, and should go without saying that it's tons better than anything you can get at a supermarket. the gps's food suggestion actually got something right for once. this place was DAMN good. my perception of seafood was always fish & shrimp. i didn't know much about oysters, crab, clams, etc as they aren't really the best on the west coast. now when i think of fried seafood... it's always heavy on the oil & is accompanied with a brown bag that's become translucent from the said oil. when i stepped it, i noticed there were old folk there & my motto is where ever there are old people it must be good food (because they've been around the block & know what's good). my motto has not failed me yet. as a girl with acid reflux, fried food is my arch nemesis & i really didn't want to leave because the smell was so tantilizing... so i sucked it up & went into the beast's belly. it was worth it. the breading they use is so light & not at all as oily as i have experienced. i got a 2 way of the oysters & shrimp with fries & a side order of crab cakes with a drink (nantucket nectars's lemonade).... i didn't eat breakfast & had to make up for it. my total came to just under $20. the food came up fairly quick & i add like a fiend. it was probably the best experience i had with food throughout my entire visit to the boston area. without a doubt... a must come back & order much more next time (maybe the fish & chips, she did say that's what she's known for). read more

Good seafood in the most unexpected of areas, along a strip of stores on a busy street in Cambridge. The menu is dominated by fried seafood but unlike most other New England seafood shacks, they do have some non fried options. Prices are excellent, most meals are $10-16. I got a small order of fried scallops (12 scallops bite sized for $13) and a large clam chowder. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were sweet as they should be. The breading was ultra crtpy and thin with the perfect texture. The breading struggled to stay onto the scallops which isn't ideal but it wasn't bad at all. The clam chowder was excellent and had a good amount of pepper in it, definitely not bland. The ratio of chowder to potatoes to clams was decent but not out of this world. The chowder was actually thicker than it should be and had a little too much pepper but otherwise was good. Knowing that they fry everything the same I'd definitely come back to try some fish next time I'm in the area. read more

As a child I was brought to Court House Seafood by my grandmother , and I still go there 40 years later. I have never in all that time had a bad piece of fish or shellfish! The authentic Portuguese cheeses are great too. This seafood market does not advertise at all because THEY DON'T NEED TO!! Thanks to my friend Daniel I tried this place out for lunch today.....delicious! The restaurant is nothing fancy, you order, pay then pick it up when they call you. The staff seemed very nice and the food....so good! I had the fish and chips with a cup of fish chowder. That with a bottle of water was $12, which was a steal given the quality and freshness of the food. Fish chowder seems a bit hard to come by around Boston oddly enough, but Courthouse serves it beautifully. The fried fish was also spot on, lightly battered and plentiful. read more

This is one of my mainstay lunch places in the neighborhood. I don't like deep fried food (which I realize is what most people get and love this place for), so I never tried their fried seafood. They, however, have a decent selection of grilled and broiled fish. For anything from $10 to $12, you can get grilled fish (I usually choose Cajun style, which is very tasty) with two sides (I usually get cole slaw and baked potato). I tried blue fish and salmon. Salmon was really overcooked once or twice I got it, so now I just stick to blue fish. I had it perhaps a dozen of times, it is consistently good. Nothing fancy but a solid filling lunch. read more

I got the fish and and chips. Now there's a right and a wrong way to do things, and the breading on the fish should have crunch. It didn't so I'm afraid I can't give them more than a Meh. I had never tried a Lobster Roll before and thought I should try it while visiting Boston last week. I happened to be in the area where Court House Seafood was and decided to stop in. I was very happy with my decision. The restaurant offered a Lobster Roll with fries for about $13. It was better than the pricer version I later got during my visit from Legal Seafood. i decided to visit this family-run local business while going to the dry cleaners one morning since i have been curious and wanted to try the fish and chips here. the decor is basic, with wood paneling and those lights you find in grandma's house, but it was well lit and very clean. the food took a little long to make since it is made to order...however, the fish and chips did not disappoint. i'm not sure what type of fish they used, but it was very fresh and there was a lot of it, courtesy of the fish market they also own next door. they had their daily specials, such as stuffed haddock, broiled bluefish and fish cakes and crab cakes. their selection is not limited to seafood -- they also offer fried chicken! i did notice that everything is extra: from rolls which are 25 cents each, to extra tartar sauce. know what you are going to order before you take out. i will definitely come back again to try their dinner specials since their prices are decent too! read more

Why do I drive all the way north for whole belly fried clams again? This is WAY closer!!!! Prices are what you would expect for fried clams and fried oysters. Went here one afternoon for lunch based on some friends' recommendation. I had the haddock and chips, which I really loved. The fish seemed very fresh and the breading wasn't too heavy, fried just enough. The fries were thick cut and not salted, which I like. Also, not sure if they make their own tarter sauce, but it was really good and was nice to also dip the fries in. This is the neighborhood seafood joint. Fresh as fresh can be. My niece loves their chicken tenders. I normally go there on Fridays, especially during lent. I get the broiled or baked haddock. I am not a fan of their clam chowder, I find it way to thick. The food isn't the most gourmet seafood that I've had. But it's simple, fresh, and reasonable. I have had the lobster roll, and the clam bellies. Both are very good. Sometimes it can get really crowded during lunchtime and you sort of have to stare down other people to get a seat. I have no problem doing that, but it can be frustrating sometimes. My friend ordered the cajun salmon once on a salad, and once with french fries. It was very affordable, and delicious! Expect clam shack style seafood, not the generic, overpriced stuff at Legal's. I would choose this over a lot of other options in the area. read more
