In addition to some Cajun cheese curds, sliced cheese, and frozen brats, I ordered a build your own sandwich consisting of a hard roll, turkey, roast beef, muenster cheese, lettuce, and butter. The sandwich was very good. I appreciate that you can build your own in addition to the 12 predefined sandwiches they sell. Muenster is my favorite cheese and butter is far less common to find as a condiment than mayo is at sub/sandwich shops, so I was glad to see both of those were options. I feel like I got a fair amount of turkey and roast beef too. The Sweet Summertime (butter, summer sausage, Colby, and lettuce on wheat bread) sounds awesome, so I'll try that next time. The store isn't super huge, but they manage to have a large selection of cheese to choose from as well as some dry goods and a refrigerator with cheese curds, string cheese, and summer sausage. They do have some sliced meat for sale, but most of the main display case is cheese. A single standing freezer contains a nice selection of locally made brats. Prices are a little higher than what you might find at a big chain grocery store, but the quality is just as good if not better.

She proceeded to tell me that they do not have any breaded haddock left to fill my order. I told her that I called in the morning to place the order so I wasn't quite sure how they couldn't have any for me. That is the purpose of ordering ahead. She stated that they were very busy and ran out. Meanwhile, while I'm talking to her, my brother-in-law was in line to pick up the order. She stated that they could fill my order next week Friday. I told her I have people at my house now for dinner. She then transferred me to someone else. I believe she said she was transferring me to the general manager or manager. He came on the phone asking how he could help me. Did she not tell him why she called me?! So I told him what she told me. He basically said the same thing. They were very busy and ran out of the breaded haddock. He also mentioned that they could fill my order for next Friday. Then he suggested one of the other types of fish, at a much higher price. He also stated that they probably didn't have 5 pounds of any type of fish to sell me. I can't believe they would run a business like that. Offering fish for next week wasn't a solution. I had a group of people at my house for dinner last night. I don't know that I could trust ordering ahead from them again. What is the point of ordering ahead if they didn't put enough aside for my order?

All of the frozen items were in chest freezers, which made it difficult to dig through compared to standing freezers, and nothing was labeled with a weight or price, so it's a blind guess as to how much you're spending. The owner was pleasant, but the lady working behind the counter was flustered and rude. I asked to have one of the packages of brats weighed so I could try to figure out what things cost. She rolled her eyes, heavily sighed, and slightly ripped the brats out of my hand to weigh them. She had calmed down by the time I eventually checked out, but I didn't appreciate the reaction to a reasonable question earlier. I wouldn't go back. There are so many other meat markets north of Milwaukee that look better, have a better selection, and I've not experienced poor customer service at.

I have gotten sandwiches a few times from this spot, but each time I find the same thing: I don't like their bread. The ciabatta is crackly and hurts my mouth. The focaccia is just so much bread for a sandwich. Often I find my sandwich is just dry and not as flavorful as I'd expect for a spot that seems to be innovative and thoughtful about their rotating sandwiches. Every time, I read the description of the sandwich and think it'll be great, but every time I'm disappointed. It's dry and bland. I'd rather spend my money on food I enjoy, which is a bummer because I'd rather support local businesses, but I'd say save your money for Jimmy John's or Jersey Mikes.... Their selection changes from time to time, so it's a good idea to stop in whenever you're in the mood for some of the best sausage you'll find in southeastern Wisconsin.
