I'd heard good things about Covington and Jonathan came out and spent an hour taking measurements and going over options for my deck. It's obvious he has a lot of experience and had good ideas about a few tricky spots. His estimate was fair and reasonable -- especially when compared to LA Decks who tried to hard-sell me on Ipe, made a mistake on the initial estimate and then might as well have been making my 18 x 18' deck with gold bars. Also, Covington's estimate and process was easy and after I got it, communication was solid. Our fence replacement is beautiful. Reinforced posts has provided terrific resistance against Santa Ana winds. Stain selection was excellent. When the gate latch did not close well, they came back immediately and replaced it with a more substantial latch that has worked well. They cleaned up the work area at the end of each day. We reached out to Jonathan for a quote on a fence and he came to our house very promptly and gave a detailed quote over email. He worked with us to look for options to bring the price down a bit (different wood, different options). We shopped around for quotes and Jonathan was priced reasonably compared to the others we saw. He was responsive, incredibly professional, and produced a set of redwood gates that we are really proud of. It literally took no more than a full day (split over two days to allow concrete to set overnight for the posts). Seriously, Jonathan from Covington Framing was probably the best contractor I have ever used. He put on a new deck for us. The deck was 26' in the air, and he had to replace some major structural beams. It looks absolutely GORGEOUS! The time came for our final inspection, and the city inspector arrived and was about to leave because we didn't realize we had to have an engineer sign off on the blueprints. However, as the inspector looked around and looked underneath, he informed me that there was no need for the engineer's trip because the work was so meticulous and perfect, that he could clearly see the deck was great. He signed off. I couldn't leave this review without also mentioning that Jonathan is by far the most pleasant person to have around as well. Normally, having a contractor in the house just isn't fun, and I can't wait for them to leave. But this time, I looked forward to his company, and he was a pleasure to have around. Jonathan took down an old fence and put up a new one around our back yard. He did outstanding work and was such a pleasure to work with. The job was more complicated than anticipated for two reasons. First, the demolition work next door started early than anticipated and so Jonathan had to contend with an entire house being demolished as he was trying to put up our fence. Second, our neighbors on another side weren't sure about what they wanted to do with their side of the fence. Through it all, he was understanding, professional, and had a cheerful, can-do approach which made the whole thing so much easier. The workmanship was excellent and I smile every time I look at the fence -- it really looks nice. Jonathan also did several small things he wasn't responsible for, like moving brush I had piled up in anticipation of the old fence coming down. He was invariably on time. Overall we had a very positive experience with Covington. They showed up when they said they would, did what they said they would do, and left us with a beautiful new redwood fence in place of our old decrepit one. Jonathan was very patient and thorough in answering all our questions and helping us choose the right materials to hit our budget. He and his crew were pleasant and professional and showed that they really cared about every detail. They didn't leave until we were happy. We would hire them again without hesitation, and in fact we plan to. I want to mention a few minor things we encountered: they did not present any real problem for us but, knowing about them in advance might be helpful to someone. 1) Jonathan was hesitant to come to our house to do an estimate in person, and emailing him was difficult, as my emails kept bouncing back. It was a little frustrating, but worth it. So if you encounter that, don't give up. 2) We were told our fence would take 3 or 4 days, and ended up taking 7 working days. For us it was fine and, again, totally worth it, but maybe just keep it in mind if you tend to run a very tight schedule. read more
