Chicken "yeero" plate was a win. Avgolemono was not. One plate heaped full of healthy toppings over a bed of chicken "yeero," as COVO calls it (correct spelling is "gyro"), and rice easily fed two hungry diners. Selections of greens, chopped veggies, and zesty pasta salads all looked and tasted fresh. Overall blend of flavors on the plate played very well against each other. My guy was so impressed with the offerings that he even tried the beets I had asked to keep separate for his sake - and kept nibbling away. Safe to say this place earned a pass from him. The "no high-fructose corn syrup" Stubborn Soda fountain was an entertaining point of interest. We tried their more unusual offerings and felt the lemon berry acai, citrus hibiscus orange, and pineapple cream all invariably tasted like liquid SweetTarts to some degree. We ended up choosing root beer - and I'm the type who just saw and immediately ordered suadero, cabeza, and lengua tacos at a taqueria tonight with no idea what two of those three adventuresome meats tasted like. Regardless, root beer sans high-fructose corn syrup is still a win. Avgolemono, or "Tangy Greek Chicken Soup with Lemon Juice" on their de-ethnic-tized menu, is a well-known Greek soup. Star components: chicken and lemon. The chicken was there. The lemon wasn't. In fact, in lieu of the expected tang was a noticeably-off taste. A component that, while welcome in other contexts, was definitely sticking out like a sore thumb in this bowl of oddly-pale soup. Avgolemono is (supposed to be) a bright, cheery yellow from the combination of orzo, egg yolk, and healthy dose of lemon. This bowl was more reminiscent of New England clam chowder than lemony Greek soup in both color and high notes - that tang was barely perceptible, with what little note of citrus there was heavily overpowered by that one curious presence - one that rang of, of all things, coconut. Maybe COVO decided to use coconut oil as a cooking base? Maybe it was another ingredient entirely. I don't know. I just know avgolemono, and this item on a menu that clearly is attempting to cater to the masses in its styling is not the Greek soup it's hinting to be. And that's fine. Couldn't even come close to finishing it. As someone with a greek mother I can be quite picky on the topic, and I'll admit that nothing was really great, but all together I was content given the circumstances. The tzatziki didn't have a ton of flavor, and the meat was a bit drab, but think of this place as like a greek Chipotle and you'll be content. As far as the different skewered meats they offer beef & lamb, gyros, chicken, and picantico pork (slighty spicy). You can get bowl, salad, w/pita, or plate. The pork is the best hands down the rest only taste ok and just ok, is not ok. You get a variety of toppings and several different sauces like traditional tzatziki sauce. All added for free. The French fries our great. Fresh cut potatoes. I've done the burger, its a heart attack waiting to happen, it's not bad. It's to much for me, it's just ok some might like it. Ever since I tried their pita yeero and loved it. I've been back for more. Today I went in and wanted to try their ribs and they "weren't available" the gentleman mentioned. So I opted for a bowl with salmon souvlaki. Which had a very thin bed of rice and fresh toppings; well the guys serving my toppings totally skimped me. The food is good, although with raised post COVID pricing I would argue that the value just isn't there anymore. The reason for the bad review isn't food related. Last night I went to use a COVO gift card purchased by my in laws at the Bolingbrook location in 2021 (I had the receipts with me). The gift card initially scanned as "not valid at this store" so I had the employee call a manager. They tried to say that the gift card was expired, which is illegal per the link below. They then tried to offer me a discount while still saying the gift card was invalid. I held my ground and they eventually caved, but as a matter of principal I won't be returning after years of being a customer and recommending them to people. Food was absolutely amazing!!!! Stopped in for a quick lunch and COVO did not disappoint. All of the toppings were fresh and meat (beef/lamb mix) was seasoned to perfection. The staff was super nice and accommodating with assisting with ordering and suggesting some of their most popular items. I must say this is the best gyro that I've had so far in the Chicagoland suburbs. The flavor again was amazing and the portion size was huge! It's definitely a shareable size amount of food. The restaurant is at the end of a strip mall so I can see parking being a bit hectic depending on the time that you go with more customers. I'm not going to lie, this place has gone downhill since we first went. If you go here in person, your results may vary, but DO NOT order for delivery. We've had mistakes several times (wrong ingredients put into bowl, paid more for extra meat in one bowl and saw no difference), and definitely don't get the "Greek fries", as it's just French fries (no spices, no lemon, no feta). Their sauce is fine, but they definitely do not put enough on. For those who say, "This is the best Greek food I've had!" I've been coming to Covo for a long time and have always loved the food. However, I'm not sure if there was a change in ownership or suppliers, but I picked up takeout today and the food was literally inedible. I got a chicken gyro bowl with a side hummus cup. The chicken was grey and had a mealy texture and had no seasoning. The rice was flavorless and overcooked. The hummus, if I can call it that, was straight up mashed chickpeas with no seasoning and a rough texture. Literally nothing was seasoned. I picked out all the chicken in hopes of at least eating part of the bowl, but it was all around so bad I ended up throwing the entire thing in the trash. Complete waste of money and it was honestly so bad that I won't be returning. The prices are too high to gamble with the potential to get a dish this foul. I've recommended this place multiple times and order at least once a month so something major has changed for the worse so this will be my last Covo order. read more

Covo is a great spot in Bolingbrook. Think more like the Chipotle of Greek food. There are options for bowls, salads, dinner plates. You pick which meat you want, you can add whatever toppings you want, and you can pick different sides to complete your meal. There's also delicious soup and pita and saganaki...-you get the idea. I like the many different protein choices. The meat is seasoned very well and it is cut off of the spit once you order. The toppings are fresh and it's always great when you can find a place that has sun dried tomatoes and feta. Service is pretty quick and the restaurant itself is nice and clean. There is also a small patio you can sit on when the weather is nice. Covo is a bit more expensive than Chipotle, I would say. But if you want a quick Mediterranean option, than Covo is a great place to stop in. Also, they have a rewards program-you don't even need a card. Just input a one-time generated code into your phone, and the program tracks it all for you. So yeah-I like Covo-it's a'ok in my book. read more

The yeero (gyro) my nephew ordered was cold. The fries were greasy, limp and cold. I usually love saganaki. This saganaki was SUPER salty, prepared on a grill with no taste of wine The soup tasted like water. I can see slices of carrot and bits of celery and chicken but their flavor was not present. Went with my fiancée to buy a salad which she buys every week , the guy that served her it's either the manager or owner . A tall Heavy set guy , was there at around 8pm . My fiancée orders her salad and this guy first off seems like he is in a bad attitude or having a bad day every single time we go there . My fiancée simply asked him to use the spoon as they always do to add the feta cheese to salad , this guy basically grabbed every single ingredient with his hands . Every other time my fiancée has ordered this salad it's always been made using the utensils they have . My fiancée simply asked him if he can please use the utensils to make her salad as they have always done in past , and the Guy might have take it personal or been having another bad day I suppose that he refused to serve my fiancée and told her to take her business elsewhere. All simply for asking to properly make the salad using utensils and not his hands to make it . My fiancée simply gets the same exact salad every week from there but since he refused service for his attitude now we will take our business elsewhere, if he is just an employee there I hope the owner talks to him about customer service, all that was asked of him was to use utensils. I have a food allergy. Because of that, I'm careful about what I order. I asked the manager if there was any spice at all on the chicken. He replied, "No, no spice on the chicken." When I started to eat the chicken, I immediately had a reaction typical of the spice to which I'm allergic. I went back up to the manager and asked him, "what's on the chicken?" He replied, "Tomato paste, and spices, and..." I stopped him right there. I said, "You told me there was no spice at all, now you're telling me there is?" "Yes, but there isn't very much spice," was his answer. Fortunately, I was able to get home in time and take my medicine before the reaction got worse. I do not believe that any restaurant manager that plays loose with allergies may also play loose with other critical aspects of his restaurant. I love Greek food and familiar with the flavors. I went in tonight with my daughter and she got a chicken bowl, I got the same up upgraded to the chicken souvlaki and at the last minute decided on the saganaki. The bill was just under 30.00 but nothing one would'nt expect with good Greek food. I was so excited to find them and told her that I wanted to try the skirt steak meal on my next visit. First the saganaki was probably one of the worse I've ever had, it was blah at best and hard. I actually forgave it as it was a 6 minute ride home and I told my daughter, whom I bragged as to how good it usually is, that maybe we should have eaten it there while hot and soft. However after attacking my dinner, I actually stopped and asked my daughter if she thought her tzatiki sauce tasted a little soapy. She said it wasn't great but not sure she tasted soap. However after eating a few more minutes trying to give our meals a chance, we both agreed the chicken was tough and the meals that should have been filled with amazing flavors were bland and flavorless to the point neither of us continued eating. The remainder of two almost full meals and half the saganaki ended up in the trash can. I ended up opening a can of soup. I was so disheartened find it so displeasing. This is my first visit to Covo, I was looking for a traditional Gyro wrap, and came away disappointed. The wrap was small and instead of the "traditional lamb and beef off the rotating Gyro meat that we see In almost all food places serving Gyro wraps it had chucks of steak and lamb. The meat was tough and the sauce was not again the normal tasty traditional tzatziki sauce I/one would expect. Lamb gyro tasted like roast beef, no traditional gyro taste, meat was chopped too thin, the sides were bland, the cucumber sauce was Wishbone salad dressing. the takeout desert was tiny. Everybody is a critic and especially in Bolingcrook- I mean Bolingbrook... where your choices are super limited to tacos or fast food. Now don't get me wrong I absolutely love tacos but it's so nice to see a place that isn't another chipotle, McDonald's, five guys, Panda Express or Mexican joint. Walking in with a warm welcome and options is my kind of place. I'm so tired of only being able to create a bowl or burrito with the same crap - since everyone is comparing this to chipotle ... which btw is absolutely a disgusting place... it carries the concept of chipotle but with way better quality and selection. (They aren't selling Mexican food here, they are selling Greek food people)... Anyway, I ordered a salad bowl and topped it with everything like mango Greek salsa, olives, veggies galore and feta.... I even ordered a salmon- yes, salmon- freshly grilled on top. It was divinely delicious and not too much or not too little. The fact I can order a little vino or IPA with my meal really makes this place special. Yes, I know you can do this at other places but Greek food is a great mate to booze. This place is my new favorite and a good pace away from the hustle and bustle of fast food, robotic workers and tired menus. It's unique and I'm sure they will have their off days but it's truly a dedicated restaurant looking to stand out. Let me just preface this review by saying, fast and easy has become a part of American food culture. We expect things to come quickly and cheaply, and we forget about quality. Fortunately, COVO has not forgotten about quality. Although the appearance of COVO is one such as Chipotle, a food assembly line, I think COVO holds ups pretty well as it's own. There were many choices of different food options as we a bar of fresh ingredients. I chose to go with a lamb/beef "Yeero Bowl". I must say I was impressed how well the food was seasoned and how crisp and fresh the ingredients were. However, we have to remind ourselves there are draw backs to the being quick and easy. For example, the gyro meat was already getting dry because it was prepped and put in warmer. The meat was seasoned well and tasted good, but when put in a container of course, it will dry a bit. Let's also not kid ourselves here. Our expectation for the food in a small suburb can't be compared to say the food we'd expect to get in Greektown. Everything tasted good, and the condiments were fresh, but it's not life changing. It's well prepared food you can grab really quickly, or temporarily satiate a craving for authentic Greek food. The food doesn't blow you away, but it is a great quick option that can help break the monotony of the daily routine. And all in all, the food is quality food that won't break the bank, and for my money it's much better than the alternative drive thru cheeseburger.
