We have been frequent customers of the North Dallas location for years and have seen a steady decline in quality, quantity and cleanliness. On a recent visit we waited over 30 minutes for our online order even though we arrived at the time stated in the confirmation. Food was lukewarm, sad looking and portions are smaller than ever. The restaurant itself was poorly maintained - trash on floor, tables in disarray, and this although staffed with two people at counter, one expediting and kitchen staff. I just came in to buy a small iced tea and use the ladies room. I was grieving a friend's death and had just donated his items to Pennies for Heaven in the same mall. The person behind the counter here at Cowboy was just so sweet and she did not even know what I was going through. She gave me a big smile and said that the iced tea was on them. The little place smelled so good and the restaurant and bathroom was clean and bright. The staff is well trained and made me feel so much better. The food was pretty good, as well as the prices, but the service is abysmal. When we arrived, there was no one in front of us. We still had to wait a few minutes for the employee to get up from the table where she was sitting to come take our order. After we ordered, the entire staff proceeded to sit down at tables and get on their cell phones. We needed a to-go box, and the staff was beyond annoyed to have to get up. I requested a catering order last week over the phone. When the food arrived today, there was not enough. I was stunned and so disappointed. I called immediately and spoke with Chris, who claimed to be the general manager. He explained the correct size 'sides' were sent. He stated I could have paid extra for 'Texas' sized sides when I explained my dismay that we didn't have enough food. I explained that was never offered to me when I placed the order, nor are the size of the sides listed online. He offered nothing more than to speak to the girl that took my order (who he claims was a supervisor). Overall, awful experience. Cowboy chicken is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been skeptical about getting the enchiladas, but today I tried them and wished I tried them sooner. They are one of best enchiladas i've had. We cater from Cowboy Chicken frequently and we typically get the rotisserie chicken, potatoes, salad (with chili lime dressing), beans (they're vegan!) and the peach cobbler. Either is a good choice just depends what you want. Now what everyone loves SIDES!!! So many great sides here & top of the list is the twice baked potatoes. Food is always good and as expected. My complaint is about the poor customer service. We ordered online for pick up and somehow when I googled them I ended up ordering through Postmates? Not sure how. Anyway when we arrived we called to have them bring the order out like the sign by the door suggested. They would not bring it out. I went in and the young man told me they would only bring web orders out. My order WAS a web order! Instead of offering to bring it out or asking what he could to help he continued to argue and talk over me. So RUDE. I used to come here when I was a kid: visited again last night and it's still awesome! The prices are a little higher than fast food, but lower than a lot of other restaurants. Many meals are $7-8 and the portions are very large. I had the vasquez chicken platter: the sauce on the chicken was great and it is on their low-calorie menu. I am now boycotting the North Dallas - Preston Rd. location. This location use to have good service but it has really gone down. I ordered on the app a couple of months ago and it took over an hour to get the order done; even though the app said it was ready. I waited and watched as the fully staffed restaurant employees just sort of stood around and just chatted with guests. When I brought this up that I had waited an hour I got no apology or offer of a discount. I contact them through social media and am told that they would have a manager of this location contact me. I never got a call. I decide to give them another chance. I order on the app and get there after 25 minutes; which is 5 minutes past the time it was to be ready and it isn't on the to go order shelf. I go to the counter and ask about my order and the ticket is hanging up; however the order is just "sitting" in the window. Still no apology. I then get back to my office and I am missing a piece of chicken in the 1/4 chicken white meat plate; I only got a wing. I did receive the 2 sides. The chicken was dry. I guess this place is sort of like Boston Market, with a country twist. The chicken here is quite good. Fresh and moist. Just like how I like my women. Ok kidding. Or am I? The fries are really good. Really crispy. I'm not a fan of soggy or limp wristed fries, so this was a high point in the meal for me. Only issue, I wish they gave me more. I also tried the creamed spinach, which was also tasty. It wasn't super liquidy like some creamed spinach you can encounter, this one had more spinach than cream, so bravo to Cowboy Chicken. Food was lackluster in taste... not the juicy rotisserie chicken I like but very dry and I don't like Chipotle Mayo and forgot to substitute mustard. So I went to counter and asked for mustard and got two packs. Went to spread it on my sandwich and it was dark brown and had the consistency of a firm PEANUT BUTTER, Went back to the counter and told them they needed to check their mustard because it was "rancid". They brought out the box again and with maybe 75-100 packets Not One was Good and some were even worse looking with an oil standing on top and darker brown! They didnt offer me any other and I had to ask if they had any in the kitchen.. They said they didnt use any in the kitchen very matter of factly like "who would do that:? It could have been handled a lot more professionally. (which reminds me. They show a wifi connection and I asked for the password and was told, again, very matter of factly, they don't have it.... at least say it with a smile or some personality). Frustrated I went back and to eat my dry chicken sandwich and room temp twice backed potato that I didn't finish and left. I wont be back. I only hope I remember! Chicken was good, sides were great! Our party had kettle chips, mac & cheese, twice baked potatoes (more like jazzed up mashed potatoes), and fried okra. The creamed spinach was more like spinach casserole, but I really enjoyed it - it was my favorite side. The 4 of us spilt a serving of Peach Cobbler so it just a couple of bites each. Good, but really sweet. I thought the chicken servings were a little small, and you could definitely hear the thumpin' bass from the bar next door. I guess that's what you get on a Saturday night. I came here for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised. It's one of those places that isn't really that impressive looking from the outside (or the inside, to be honest). Reading over some of the other reviews, I disagree with the people who said the staff doesn't care and the food (especially the sides) are bad/mediocre. The staff was very friendly and the sides were the best part to me. There is a possibility that they are inconsistent, though. The "potaters" were excellent and macaroni and cheese was great, too. The 1/4 white chicken didn't strike me as remarkably unique, but does anyone really need that from their chicken? It was still great and VERY filling. 5/5 for me. read more

Oooooo. I am always excited to try out Grilled chicken from new places I have never been before. This place is very close to Golden chick so I guess it's its competitor? Nonetheless if I were to compare this chicken to Golden Chick's chicken I would definitely say cowboy chicken is way better. Why? The service,food, and cleanliness is way better. Service was very friendly while also being fast which I have to say is important. The place is pretty clean but I have to warm you, although it looks pretty spacious from the inside, it is pretty small and narrow once you go in so I would recommend you to to-go your order and eat at home. The chicken however is pretty juicy and tender. The sides are pretty task but I have a few complaints. The twice Baked sweet potatoes taste like plain Mashed potatoes so I have no idea why they would even make that dish. The Rolls are also pretty bland and small. However, everything else in the menu is pretty tasty. The creamed spinach is however, VERY CHEESY. some might like the cheese and some might not so pick on your own precaution. read more

The food was good. The chicken was cooked properly and tasty. The chicken enchiladas were also good flavorful and enjoyed. The people at the order counter were young and not really attentive. They were lacking in social graces related to greetings and thank you. The store was empty and they could have come back and checked on us at least once in 30 minutes we were there. It felt like we were just being ignored. They stayed at the front counter chittering among themselves. It wasn't comfortable & it wasn't warm. I took off two stars because they were that lacking in interpersonal skills and customer service skills. This was my third visit to cowboy chicken this week. My first one to this particular location. The difference is night and day. I was completely unimpressed and will not be returning to this location. It would be sad for them to go out of business here just because of poor training. We've been here a total of two times now and both times it's been amazing! I came across Cowboy Chicken when I used to order catering from them for the firm I was with and it was so delicious that I had to come down to the restaurant to check it it for myself. Both times I was helped by a young lady named Leslie and her customer service skills are top notch. She walked us through the entire menu and suggested items that she thought we would like. The first time we were here, after getting our food we discovered that we didn't enjoy two of the sides that we had received and she switched it out graciously. This second time, one of the pieces of chicken was a little on the drier side and Leslie switched it out no problem with her usual huge smile on her face. Such a delight to interact with. This place is accross the street from my office, so it's a regular spot for our office crew. $4.99 lunch special can't be beat. The chicken is good. Sometimes it's a little dry, sometimes a little salty, but more often than not we leave there happy. Cowboy Chicken... let me ponder you. This is a case of 3.5 stars, to me. Here's the deal: You go in, it's a fast-ish food place where you order at a counter and you can sit down at a table or take it to go. Their menu has a bunch of chicken-oriented options, as you would imagine, and a bunch of sides that are sort of standard with this kind of fare. They do a nice job of delineating whether the food is 'good for you' or not with a little marker next to the dish, which is always appreciated for those of us watching our girlish figures. The food: Uh, yeah... you know, good. Very solid. Really, for what it is, it's not like... I want to kiss the cook good, but, you know, just good. The reason for sloping down to 3-stars as opposed to ramping up to 4-stars is pretty simple, the atmosphere and the employees left something to be desired. It's not a place I would ever really want to sit in and the employees didn't give you a feeling that they cared terribly much about getting things right or doing them in a timely manner. Still, it's a very good option and I can't imagine not going back since it's convenient. However, what says more is that I can't give it 4-stars because if I wasn't close I would never consider going out of my way for it. read more
