I wish that I wasn't consistently disappointed in this location because it has the potential to be so enjoyable. I really enjoy Cowboy Jack's overall but have had multiple unpleasant experiences at the one on 5th. Last night we waited in line for 45 minutes and never got in the door. Normally I don't mind waiting to get into a bar but they don't manage the line at all. People consistently walked right into a big group of people near the door so the line never really moved. They just kept letting people in who cut the line. They know there will be a line on weekends so a temporary fence would go a long way. While we were waiting in the line there was an individual who came out of Cowboy Jacks that was beyond over served. He could barely sit up or communicate. My friends and I helped to lift him up and walk him to the side of the building where he could sit on the ground out of the rain. They served him 23 shots of fireball. We returned to our spot in line but kept an eye on him. Good thing we did because the bouncers decided to start throwing him around like a rag doll for being too close to the door. He couldn't defend himself. He was bleeding. We had to run over to stop them. This isn't my first issue with the bouncers at this location. They are consistently rude, unprofessional, and scary. I don't feel safe at this location. Don't get me wrong, I've had some normal nights here and awesome experiences at other locations but Cowboy Jack's on 5th is like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Once you're in the bar, the experience CAN be great (dancing, music, food, crowd, etc) but we were so put off before we even got inside. Took an Uber as it was open another hour. Saw people all around. Walked up and one of the four bouncers yelled "You're not coming in here!!" We asked if they closed early, and he said they closed the doors at 1. Why didn't he just say that? So rude and everyone coming out was miserable. Wanted to try somewhere different before a Lynx game. Was not too busy on the Thursday evening, was close to end of Happy Hour and they did have a decent selection of items for HH. Service was ok, nothing special. The jalapeno cheese curds had some flavor but was hoping for a bit more kick. The kids cowboy joe was a bit sweet but probably so more appealing to the younger kids. The philly sandwhich was cooked well and had a balance of meat and veggies. The Lasso fries are different but would have been better with a seasoning like season salt or similar to make them stand 9ut a bit more. The avocado turkey wrap was a little heavy on the ranch dressing but had decent flavor. The tots were standard, not over or 7nder cooked which was nice. Classist. Absolutely awful. Didn't even get in!! Waited for two hours in less than 30 degree weather and got cursed at by workers of the bar for not paying over $50 for a fast pass while people who waited hours couldn't get in. they wouldn't let anyone in unless they paid that $50 for a mid bar. Should've been at least 10:100 people that paid while there was so much space inside. That was my budget for their expensive drinks inside. I was at this Cowboy Jack's location for a work event last night. After having a few bad experiences at the Cowboy Jack's in Bloomington, I'm happy to say that the Minneapolis location was much better. The private party was held upstairs in on the rooftop. The weather was perfect to be outside, and there was plenty of sun and shade for people to choose which they prefer. The drinks were good and it appeared everyone enjoyed the appetizers. The bar staff was very friendly and made sure to keep circulating to ensure everyone had plenty of drinks. I'm knocking off one star because of the state of the men's room. Without getting too graphic in this review, let's just say it could use cleaning and the plumbing needs to be fixed in one of the toilets. I would imagine it gets very crowded and loud in the evening, but for an afternoon happy hour, it's a perfect place to meet up with friends. The burger toppings were decent, but the burger itself had no seasoning. I don't know if I would recommend this place, despite the fact that nothing was "wrong" with my order. read more

Ohhh Cowboy Jack's, why was this our first time together? Got the text some of the crew were going to CBJ's for the 4th and I had just left a movie and all the Caribbean food places I wanted were closed per the holiday, so uhhh.. why not? Had NEVER been to CBJ's and actually had no idea where it was. Received a text back that it was next to the old Quest (a nightclub that we all frequented heavily during it's prime, formally Glam Slam-partially owned by Prince back then) so i knew EXACTLY where I was going, 2nd Ave No and 5th Street Street (not far from light rail station and Twins Stadium). Found awesome street parking on 2nd Ave N., which was free for the holiday. Almost walked by those huge wooden double doors, luckily a group of patrons were leaving and I looked up and saw the sign. Being a first time, I was really empressed with their spacious bar/restaurant. It's 3 levels and we went straight to the top, to eat on the roof top. As we stepped out onto the patio, everyone started clapping, so we felt the love (we actually have no idea what they were clapping for), but it was a nice welcome, none the less. Ambiance: Ample seating from bar seating, tables under umbrellas, comfy couches and chairs, wooden swings around wooden tables, booths and bar stools around tables. The have hella options. The view from up there is really nice. Service: Our server was Holly and we loved her. She was patient, overly kind and went out of her way, hospitable- almost like we were visiting her home. Even the security guy was very friendly and filled in by providing menus and info on happy hour, until our server arrived. No complaints about service for our party of 2 that grew to a party of 7. Food: Tried the El Hefe Tacos, fish tacos specifically. They would have been great, if they had seasoning. You can tell the fish was blackened a bit, so i was expecting some good flavor... nope. I could barely taste the pico de gallo the menu said was on the taco. Heavily covered in gauc and sour cream, but not covered in taste. Too bad i paid full price for those, they were NOT on the happy hour list. LOL I also had the dry rub wings and they were pretty good and well worth any price listed. All in all, i think i loved their rooftop and my service. The food was okay, but the drinks were great. I'll be back. read more

My buddies and I were out for some beers before a Vikings pre-season game and Cowboy Jacks had some great deals on beer and food. We came by after the game, and it is a completely different place, I am reviewing the 4:30 Friday experience. I got a couple of beers and our waitress was super cool and checked on us often. I ordered the half off chicken quesadilla, and it was really good! I put the salsa and sour cream on it, and for the happy hour price of 4 bucks, it was really solid! I was impressed with how much chicken was in it! There is really no complaint about it. The tortillas were full and thick, nothing bad at all about it. I am giving it a rare five star for what it is. Great food at a fair price, with $3 Buds, and our server was fantastic. I mean what more do you want!? read more

Where else do you go to have fun with a group of your friends on game day or just a night out on the town? Here. Duh. Appearance/Atmosphere: Set on the corner of North 5th Street and North 2nd Avenue is this awesome spot. The outside is a brick building with little decoration, just signing in the windows, but if you look up you see... the mythical, legendary rooftop that every establishment should have! Of course it's only open during the warmer months, but yeah. Once you step inside you realize how enormous this place really is. Amazingly themed wild west decor all over the restaurant. Wood here, wood there, barrel full of peanuts here, cow skull there, the place is so cleverly designed. Off to the right is a long bar rail, to the left are tables, arcade games and booths that stretch all the way to the back of the restaurant where there are freaking couches to chill on! TVs are everywhere, this place is legit, but wait.. there's more. Walk up the giant set of stairs to the second floor and now you have a more "private feel" with a few secluded tables and another bar that I'm only sure is open on the busiest of days. Hit a corner or 2 and now you're in the "upper room" which is covered in a grassy turf like floor, with big comfortable couches, 2 projectors and another huge bar rail. If you wanted to go out to the roof, this would be where you'd make your exit. The 2nd floor seems to be evenly divided between the indoor and outdoor section, in which there are many stools, tables, booths, rope swings and another bar out there for the summer. There's no shortage of seating at this place. (This place gets jumpin' once the good weather starts to break.) Service: Awesome. I've been here many, many times and I can't shout out everyone's individual names, but they've all been so awesome. As busy as this place gets with the happy hour drinks flowing, food and people everywhere, I tip my hat to all of the servers as well as bartenders that work here. Good job to all of you. Food/Value: I haven't had much food here, I usually come for the drinks, but this time, I was here during the Vikings NFC conference game (of course I was drowning my sorrows in alcohol), but I actually stopped to read their "Specials Board". I noticed one that said "Bucket of Wings = $7.00". Anything with a size comparison to a "bucket" has to be good. I was within the time-span of it being 2 hours before the game and 1 hour after the game where this special was valid. PLUS the it was "happy hour" and the drinks were $2.00 a piece for wells. COME ON. Can this place get any better?! I ordered several drinks, as my friends around me ordered wings. NINETEEN wings in some of their buckets, for $7.00. What kinda black magic are they pulling in the kitchen for these prices?! They were delicious too. Of course my people didn't finished all of their wings so I was able to try the hot, cajun dry rub and BBQ sauces until I got full. I mean, they weren't even close to Ray J's good, but for $7.00 I'd be ordering these after EVERY HOME GAME. Lol. Loved the rooftop view! My husband and I stopped by for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. I was surprised that it wasn't packed. We were able to walk up and seat ourselves right away. I wish they had more non-alcoholic drink options. Perhaps fresh lemonade or limeade would be nice. The food was decent. We ordered the Patty Melt and Turkey Burger. Not amazing, but good. I've been to multiple Cowboy Jack's locations around Minnesota, and it is one of my favorite bars to visit! Their Happy Hour goes UNMATCHED. The Happy Hour is EVERY SINGLE DAY (yes y'all, Monday-Sunday) from 3-6pm or 10pm-midnight. They have $2 rails and 50% off selected appetizers/flatbreads. I am a super fan of Cowboy Jack's and was mentioned on their Facebook page as a "regular" sooooo trust me when I say, y'all have to be here. It doesn't matter what location, just swing on by. The Minneapolis location is fun both during the day and during Downtown Minneapolis nightlife. If you're looking to grab a bite to eat, they have a big menu and reasonable prices. I'm in love with their $2 burger deal on Wednesday (50 cents for each additional topping) and their flatbreads are cheesy-licious. As far as apps go, I like their jalapeno cheese curds and walleye fingers (these plates are $5 during HH). If you'd rather just come here to drink and dance, Cowboy Jack's Downtown Minneapolis has the perfect enviroment for that too! I will warn you that the line tends to wrap around the building after 10pm, and is even worse on holidays like Halloween, but it's really fun if you're willing to wait! They have a bar downstairs, upstairs inside, and upstairs on the rooftop. My favorite place to dance is on the rooftop...I love all of the lights that are strung up, and the surrounding buildings. Its a pretty setting. I also love to sit on the swings they have up there...for those of you that like to take Instagram photos, those swings are suited for that purpose. Cowboy Jack's Minneapolis is a hoot, so bring your friends out, and get your party on! read more

Fun place to grab a descent inexpensive meal and drinks. I ordered the bucket of wings literally which I thought was comedy and the wings weren't bad at all. The atmosphere is loud but great to catch a game, listen to live music or be entertained by some locals testing their bull riding skills. I'm from Los Angeles, CA and Cowboy Jack's cane highly recommended. Good service, food came out in a timely manner and waitress gave plenty of good feedback. I went here last night with a friend who has a valid foreign passport and my friend was refused a beer because, according to the manager, Cowboy Jack's new policy states that they won't accept non-US passports to show proof of age. My friend has previously been a very frequent customer of Cowboy Jack's and I've been going there for years as well. Their implementation of this "new policy" is disgusting and xenophobic. read more

I just went here to watch the Super Bowl and it was an amazing place to watch the game! Even though we were just a few blocks away from the actual Super Bowl, Cowboy Jack's was a great alternative. Definitely try the tootsie roll shots. I think I had like 5 (don't worry, they're not that strong). We also ordered food. It was not great, and I ended up spilling a whole slider down my new white shirt anyways, so... All in all, this was a solid stop on my bar crawl/Tour de Minneapolis this past weekend. Came here on a Friday night right after the Twins game, and it was packed! It is summer now so the rooftop was nice and the crowd is def. very young, almost to the point of being straight out of college. A lot of birthdays here and the drinks are strong! I was not prepared when I took a sip of my cranberry vodka. We were starving when we got here and were craving dessert, so we got red velvet cheesecake and cinnamon donuts. I thought that since the food was from a bar, it wasn't going to be that great, but it was AMAZING! The cheese cake was a bit sweet for my taste, but the donuts came with a great caramel dipping sauce!
