Honestly, it's not as bad as peeps are saying it is! We cautiously went there but weren't expecting much since so many people were hating on it but the happy hour is so cheap we were like, Whateva! It was pretty empty when we got there but we were quickly seated and the waitress was great the whole time. New Brighton: Must be Time of day, reading mixed reviews. If its packed, maybe its not the best time to go all out. I had the best lunch going off peak, where in the end, the cook heard how much I liked it, packed up extra tubs of their famous chicken wild rice soup. I was in soup heaven for the next couple days. Then came back later after chores, and did major dinner. Too bad they don't deliver,, that's why I'm here. I was a regular sports fan at their Lake St location, and probably the hot spot is the one off 169, South of Maple Grove. Much more of a bar than a restaurant and since we only went for food, perhaps my review is lower than if I was looks for a bar atmosphere. Extensive menu of burgers, pizza, flatbreads. More than I wanted to read through. Small selection of dinner entrees, nothing special. The room is quite open and was loud even at a late lunch when it was fairly empty. Lots of TVs if you want that. Decor had some interesting things. Service was friendly, maybe a little slow. Silverwear was spotty/streaked - our water does do that but they should look into avoiding it. Several pieces on our table had dried food on them also which we pointed out. My caprese flatbread was for my expectations, short on tomato (a few small chopped pieces), cheese was too melted and way too much basalmic vinaigrette. Had my first visit to a Cowboy Jack's yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find a Monte Cristo sandwich on the summer specials menu. Upon its arrival many of my fellow guests were envious as they hadn't noticed it in the specials. It was thinner than I would have expected, looking more the size of a grilled cheese sandwich than a fried mountain of meat as I've experienced with Monte Cristos of my past (Benigans!). Though there wasn't much to it, the taste did not disappoint. After my first bite the table had to know, "How is it?" I blurted out my first thought which was, "it tastes like the state fair and I like it". The sandwich was good. It would have been perfect with a few more slices of meat on it and perhaps fried at a lower temperature. The overall experience was good. We could have used some more attention from our server. Drinks sat empty and we had to wait to get our tabs for a while. Overall I'm giving 3 stars as it is what you think it is. Nothing fancy or outstanding. Just a basic bar and restaurant, at least that was my first experience. I will update should I go again and find a different outcome. read more

But the food was very good. And the service was very good. Our server was super friendly and helpful. The decor is interesting. If you're a dude, I have to mention that the servers I saw were all female and they were all very attractive! I didn't see one single male server though. In all fairness, couldn't they hire just one hunky male server for the ladies? I don't love this place so much that I'd make a special trip. Now I get it!! I got lucky with my menu choices and was feeling generous the first go round. I've been back twice again and I have to be blunt and honest...ALL the food sucked. Sorry! It was really bad!! Like 2 star bad. Queso dip was cold (I had them nuke it.) It was basically yellow cement. The wings were meaty so I'll give them that but the sauce was straight up vinegar. The tater tot hot dish came out with stale and tepid tots on top. The dish as a whole was obviously old and neglected. Word of advice Jack, don't do hot dish if you can't deliver on it or put a little love in it. You do know that this is serious stuff in these parts? The quesadilla was a packet of cumin stirred into a meat mixture that had a dusty mouth feel. Ish. Bottom line, there ain't nobody even trying in that kitchen. I've been coming to this bar for 4 years since I've moved in the area and have never received the disrespectful service I got Saturday night/ Sunday morning I come to this place very often regular customer I came in that night and literally waited 10-15 mins on one end of the bar for a drink the bartender literally serviced ppl that came in after me that came In from the patio then went to the other end of the bar to service ppl that just put in a request never once acknowledged me and yes there was two bartenders I went to the other the end of the bar to see if I could get better service i sat there another 5 mins to 10 mins while that bartender had conversation with other ppl not doing her job anybody would be upset after watching everybody else get served but them when i finally got the bartender attention and explained how long I was waiting she said good when I asked who was the manager for the night the bartender stated he's over there I don't care u can go talk to him when I spoke to him his customer service was a I don't care attitude the bartender knew the manager was gone be on her side instead of fixing the situation manager clear didn't care read more

We have been sitting at our table for 25 minutes now after eating and still have not had our waitress come around. Let's be clear -- this is a drinking joint, not a family-friendly, food-first joint. It's basically crap reconstituted from the back of a Cisco Foods truck. The pulled pork sandwich I had was absolutely flavorless and the tots ordinary. To add further fuel to the flame-off, the first time we tried to come here with two of our disabled friends in wheelchairs, others were given preferential seating before us and the accommodation we requested was seen as more than an inconvenience. The joint is LACKING in wheelchair-accessible tables -- pretty sure that's an ADA violation -- and the few that were, people that arrived AFTER we did, were seated there BEFORE us. Let me paint the scene. We enter and approach the hostess. Tell her there's two of us and take a look around. The inside is mostly empty. She tells us it's a 20 minute wait to be seated. We decide to sit outside on the really cool patio. We find a booth that's dirty but we sit there and wait until someone stops to clean it up. That takes 20 minutes and the table wasn't fully cleaned off or wiped down. A nice waitress comes and takes our drink order. We wait another 15 minutes before we are given drinks. We ask her to wipe the table with a rag but she used a dry cocktail napkin. We flag down another waitress carrying a spray bottle and rag to wipe the table. We had 4 separate servers come by but none of them knew if we were their table. Finally one took our food order. I ordered nachos and my companion ordered meatloaf. Our food came out and my Nachos were pretty much mush. There was probably a half pound of cheese, and I like cheese but this was too much. The chips disintegrated and I wasn't able to eat it. They didn't bring out sour cream or salsa for about 10 minutes after the nachos were delivered, not that it mattered. My companion asked for a water from several servers and it was never brought out. Our drinks were never refilled. I complained to someone who presented themselves as the manager and she simply comped the nachos. She wasn't listening to all of the other complaints. I was ready to leave long before we ordered food but my companion wanted to wait it out. I would certainly recommend NOT eating here. Like, if I were having a discussion with a friend and they said they wanted to try it out, I'd tell them as matter-of-factly as I could that they should not eat here. read more

I tend to not be too critical of places and I really wanted to enjoy my time here, but sadly that wasn't the case. My acquaintance and I arrived at 7:00 PM on a weekday and placed our name on the list for seating while receiving a pager. We then waited, and waited, and waited; and watched people whom arrived after us get seated first. Things happen and there is plenty so see here so we enjoyed some time browsing the decor. We were seated at 7:30, browsed the menu, and decided on salads. Simple and healthy. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. It was not a prime dinner rush, the dining area didn't look busy, and how long does it take to make a salad?! I asked if there was a problem around 8:15 and was told it will be up shortly. The apology was rather shallow in my opinion. Our salads were on the skimpier side and did not have that appetizing appeal. This was a little disheartening as they are supposed to be entrees, they were over $11 each, and so often we eat with our eyes first. We finished our salads and the check was quickly dropped off. I'm sad to say I left hungry for the first time in a long time. I really wanted to like this cool new spot, but sadly it just didn't live up to my expectations. read more

Cons: small selection of beers on tap, with not a single IPA. No drink menu and very weakly poured drinks. Typical bar-food, with nothing impressive on the menu. Small detail-but it's annoying to be served a drink in a cheapy plastic soda cup instead of a real glass. Tap water tasted like freezer burn. Some customers were screaming (not your typical "cheer on your team," but like literally screaming at the top of their lungs) at the game on the TV. It was obnoxious, and unnecessary. The large wooden swings outside give the patio a certain "woo girl" vibe. Oh, and the mechanical bull. Yeehaw. Future potential pro: watching said "woo girls" get drunk and fall off swing. And bull. I meet some friends for dinner here Sunday night. We waited around about 30 minutes to get seated. They were fairly busy, so not a big deal. Finally the hostess brings us to our table. Our group of friends sits there for about 15 minutes with no server is sight. So, one of my friends decides to go and talk to the hostess and ask her to find our server. 10 minutes later there is still no server, so we talk to the hostess again. She goes and talks to her manager. We wait 10 to 15 more minutes and still no one has come to our table. We have now been waiting at our table for well over 30 minutes and no one has come to our table. We haven't event talked to a server or received water. Needless to say our group decided to leave. This is one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in my life. I will never go back to Cowboys. My advice is stay away unless you like sitting in a restaurant watching everyone else around you eat. Unfortunately, I am forced to give this restaurant one star. They really deserve zero. read more

My husband and I are not picky people and forgive much, but not our visit to this restaurant. The owner has done a great job at decorating and creating a beautiful patio area just in time for summer. Now he needs to turn his attention to the quality of food being served and the servers and staff. The hamburger and pulled pork sandwiches we ordered were barely edible. Hamburger was a pre-formed patty that was dry as was the bun. The pulled pork sandwich had a lot of grizzle, little BBQ sauce that had absolutely no flavor to it (hint: go to Costco and buy a pallet of Ray's BBQ sauce) and a dried bun. The fries were not even tasty. How do you screw up simple items like these? The two hostesses were more interested in their personal conversation than in greeting us or seating us in a half-empty restaurant. Our 'server" bordered on rude - definitely not friendly or inviting. I chanced another visit to meet a friend during happy hour. Wasn't any better. Asked for a happy hour menu and selected the nachos. A large pile was served with all the trimmings, but again, little flavor. Then the server told me that they didn't qualify for the happy hour pricing (after I ordered them) so I was charged $12.00. The mostly, if not all, female staff have attitudes like they could care less - or maybe that's just toward the female customers. Don't know, don't care. Won't be back! read more

First stop in, I remember it as Champps and then the New Brighton Bar. First of all, being familiar with the Cowboy Jacks team, I absolutely loved the inside design and decor. The other two bars had me skeptical of how the inside would be done. And it's great I love it! Came in Saturday afternoon for lunch, not too busy, too hot for outdoors. Loads of kids after baseball games, took about 10 minutes for the mildly busy server to stop by. She was very pleasant young lady, not sure if she was newer but she could've used some help. She did advise waiting about 15 minutes until happy hour started for appetizer specials. Glad u did I got twice the food for half the price. The acoustics makes for a loud environment, if you're looking for quiet conversation you may be disappointed, on the other hand the table next to you wont hear your conversation. Horrible, horrible....HORRIBLE!!! Went there for lunch with some work people to try something new. The service was slow to non-existent. Had a burger, didn't upgrade to the fries and had a glass of water. The burger was a dried out patty that tasted like it had been on the grill for half and hour. To make matters worse, I asked for some hot sauce on the side and when I got my bill discovered that they charged me for a condiment.....seriously!? I questioned the waitress and she sent over the manager and I thought that he would make things right. All he said was that everything on their menu was ala-cart. So it was bad food, bad service followed by bad management. I sure hope the extra that they charged me for the hot sauce was worth it because I'll NEVER go there again. I was super excited for this to open so close to home. Great happy hour specials, great food, as with all the locations. So far the staff had been pretty good. Really awesome layout and design, excited to use the patio this summer. They did a really good job on the remodel. My only complaint is they posted the $3 ramen bowl special on the board in the restaurant. We went in for it tonight, still on the board, but we were told they weren't honoring the special. We didn't want to make a huge fuss and demand they honor it, but very disappointing. We did speak to the manager to find out what was really going on, but still a disappointment. I can see why this place trends as poorly as it has been. New Brighton isn't the most happening spot, but man, based on service, and distinct (lack) of personality/warmth from the staff, it's hard to see why this place is still here. Sat at a dead bar rail at 7 PM on Monday. Met one of my friends there and it took about 5 minutes to be greeted by the bartender. No smile, no hello, just "what do you want?" Ordered their own brewed IPA because they didn't have any others on tap. They're still stuck in the American light beer phase of 20 years ago. Which is fitting, since the same restaurant group owns Sally's on the UofM campus. Wasn't bad. wasn't good, but I did spill some on my hand when I picked it up because I was expecting a glass pint. Not the plastic piece of junk I was served in. Apparently, cowboy's and bikers can't be trusted to drink out of glass for fear of their safety. Ordered up the steak bites because they sounded good. They also had a low cal version, which I asked about and was told "it comes without the onion ring. That makes it vegan friendly". I didn't bother making the point that vegans generally aren't carnivores. I was asked how I wanted them cooked, mid rare being the response. Fast forward 15-18 minutes, and they came back well done. Like shoe leather, well done. Also cold. My buddies fries were cold as well, but he didn't care or want to wait. They offered to remake them, and I accepted the offer. The next batch arrived and they were more what I was hoping for. Pretty tender bites of steak. Not tough at all. They are a little bland for my taste, as I'm a big fan of the 'bull bites' at Axel's, but otherwise good. They also had your standard American beers on tap, with their own brewed IPA. I ordered that up. Again, not bad. Would have preferred something local instead, but good for them getting in on the self brew craze. All in all, New Brighton doesn't have the most to offer in the way of culinary surprise, so it's easy to see the success. The Western theme had me confused why I keep winding up in them, when I despise the theme so much. Good for them for opening multiple locations, but I just can't see myself intentionally choosing to go again. And the service never got better. read more

They were basically bones with batter on them, and as tiny as can be. The waitress did nothing, so we asked for a manager. This guy who looked like he just rolled out of bed shows up and proceeds to say "that's what corporate gives us". Then he offered to throw them away (with no apology or refund).
