This used to be one of our favorite to have breakfast/lunch. Went there last Sunday and new it was probably the last time we would go there. We walked in and put our names down. There were others waiting also to be seated ahead of us. There were only two waitresses who if they moved any slow, they would be moving in reverse. There were 3 empty tables that needed to be bussed and never was during the 20 minutes we were standing there. They didn't seat anyone during that time. The one waitress kept dropping things and said at least 5 times that she was having a bad day and needed to just go home. The kicker was when a gentleman came in and asked if he could sit at the counter where 3/4 seats were available. The waitress said she needed to seat others who were waiting first. He ask us if we anyone wanted the bar seats and we said no, so he sat down. The waitress who was obviously annoyed, ignored him, and eventually said she wouldn't wait on him until everybody else had who was waiting had been seated. So very rude! wouldn't even give him a menu. At that point we turned around and left. We ran into a former waitress at another establishment and she told us she left because things got really bad since the owner passed away. The new owners, son and daughter had no idea what they were doing, who don't even live in the area, raised prices, cut staff, and had no interest in providing good customer service. Sad to see such a great place go down hill!! They would be better off just selling it to a local who would appreciate running it. read more

After staying overnight in Minden, we were looking for a good place for breakfast on Sunday morning. We had passed by the Cowboy's Cafe and decided it was worth trying. The restaurant is a small place with limited seating so it's best to arrive early. Our server was very friendly and offered numerous suggestions when my boyfriend wasn't sure what to order. I had the biscuits with gravy which were incredible... made from scratch and quite filling. He had the Cowboy Benedict which he couldn't finish as there was so much food. The portions were huge and the prices were quite reasonable. Service was fast and efficient. There appeared to be a lot of locals here for breakfast. It wasn't a fancy dining experience, but rather a local diner with excellent, American diner food. We will definitely come back. Just a note - the orange juice was fabulous. Our server made a point to tell us that they juice it themselves and there is a lot of pulp. That was an accurate description, but it was the best orange juice I have ever had. read more

Pulled in across the street at Subway (Hurl). I couldn't bring myself to go in. I looked across the street and saw this small, mom and pop breakfast/lunch house, and, jumped right back in the car. The place is clean!! cute design, small and the food was VERY good!! The service matched the food. As it happened, the owner was sitting right behind me. He's been there for 4 years and has a 45 minute wait on the weekends. Great business!! I had the Cobb Salad with added avacado and bacon bits. Best I've had!! With an overnight stay in this cute Western feeling town of Minden, we wanted a yummy breakfast before heading north home. Yelp helped me find this homey cafe. We love old fashion cafes and this one is perfect! The owners greet you as you walk in, all the regulars know one another- which speaks volumes to us- they support good cooking. We enjoyed our meal and the cowboy/cowgirl decor, and darn good coffee(nothing fancy, just right) We highly recommend if you want affordable, old fashion comfort food, and good portions too. read more

So far we've enjoyed every meal here, even if the decor isn't the greatest. Being from California having guns and stuff in the walls feels weird, and it's definitely old, but the food is fantastic. Portion sizes are large so I always have leftovers. read more

I had high hopes for this place. The interior wall decorations are great and it has a rustic feel. However, other than having the food served quickly, I don't have much to praise them for. Slow servers who are engaged in conversations with locals and not attentive to you. When the server finally gets around to asking for your order, it's "what'll you have?" Portions were ok but a little skimpy on the bacon. No refills offered and the server returns only when it's time to give you a check. Great food and great service. Everything my husband and I have had there has been great. I highly recommend the pastrami sandwich, and my husband said the hamburgers were fantastic . I also love how they serve oatmeal all day ! The owners are friendly, and so are the waitresses. The only downside is it can be crowded at certain times on the weekends and parking can be a problem. I found myself in Minden this week-end in need of breakfast. I was meeting some relatives and they suggested Cowboys because they had eaten there and felt it was one of the better options for breakfast in town. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Now normally, I like to scoop up the entire yolk in one bite, then pop it so the warm runny goodness of yolk fills my mouth. I was to be sadly disappointed on this occasion. It must be the fear of Salmonella because the yolk was completely cooked, like a hardboiled egg, with not a bit of runniness to be found. Don't get me wrong, the Hollandaise sauce was very tasty and I scraped as much of that off the plate as possible, but it just couldn't make up for the overcooked eggs. Martin W. was right on with his assessment of the hash browns...bleh! My friend ordered the Blueberry Pancakes. Just like at the Flying Fish with 2 or 3 Fishes, he struggled with two or three pancakes. Fortunately, he stuck with two as these things were enormous and spilled over the edge of the plate. With big fat juicy blueberries. A couple of interesting options on the menu was the stuffed French Toast. One version has sausage and cheese while the other has strawberries, jam, and cream cheese. We were heading out of town early on Saturday and had planned on stopping at Denny's, but thanks to other yelpers, I found out that they had closed before we came into town from Reno. I found Cowboy's Cafe on Yelp and they were a fan favorite of the group. The breakfast was reasonably priced and the portions were good sized. What can I say. Don't eat there. I've eaten there for 3 or 4 years and my last experience was not good. As we two of us put our name in and waited near 45 mins. A group of 4 put there names after we had been waiting 30 mins longer then them. Waitress comes out calls the name of 4 and looks right at us and said. Nice hole in the wall. Easy to miss but a great place for lunch. Started our trip south to Los Angeles and wanted lunch before hitting the mountains. Lucky for us we stopped at cowboy cafe. Prompt friendly service, diverse menu, quick preparation and yummy food. My wife and I got chicken sandwiches. Hers was the club. Bun was excellent, chicken fresh and sticking outside the Bun on all sides. The French fries were fresh cut. Nearby tables had burritos and biscuits and gravy. It looked good and both tables cleaned their plates. I will be looking to stop here on my next trip north. The place was full 2 days after thanksgiving. read more

If only the attitude with service matched the meal, there would be something to this place. mediocre at best. the cafe has a 'OUR way or the highway' approach to service satisfaction in custom meal requests. I am a traditional diner person, so when I asked for pigs in a blanket, a sea hag looking waitress shot back no pigs or no blankets only a pancake stack and sausages on the side. really, they got to do better than that. in my opinion, no imagination with making guests happy. they think inside the box. a very tiny box. pass it up...motor to katies at c.v.i. * the young girls helping at the joint are worth sitting at the counter and enjoying a cup of coffee. read more

Went here for breakfast yesterday and really enjoyed atmosphere and decorations in cowboy theme. We ordered the bacon and eggs I had the country potatoes my wife had the hash browns eggs over easy and toast everything was cooked properly and served very hot. Next time I would try their pancakes I've heard they are terrific. Their lunch menu looks very good also. Make sure if the restaurant is full you put your name on the list or else you will get skipped over. read more

Stars: 3.5 Leaving Wally Springs and was looking for breakfast. This place was the closest so decided to check it out. Small diner with a western feel hence the name Cowboy cafe. Was greeted by our friendly waitress and was lucky enough to be seated right away. Ordered the breakfast burrito and a small stack of blue berry pancakes. BB: filled with chorizo, egg, potato and cheese served with a side of salsa and sour cream. Size of the burrito about average. Would have been nice if it was larger. The flavor was pretty good and I appreciated the fact that when I took a bite there was no greasy mess from the chorizo. BP: have to say I was disappointed. Thought I was gonna get two large fluffy pancakes instead they were meager and flat. My syrup just ran straight thru. The berries were a little over cooked and didn't have that pop when I bit into them. Over all service was friendly and attentive. Pancakes can be worked on. read more

Outstanding, we both had the chicken fried steak and it was the best I have had in Northern Nevada. Very large, lots of fresh mashed potatoes and kernel corn, but the gravy was really outstanding, fresh, tasteful and lots to cover steak & potatoes. Service was fantastic l loved the atmosphere, lots of old Cowboy Memories. Really if your driving through Minden stop and have breakfast or lunch you will not be disappointed. read more
