I always get breakfast here. The omelettes are perfectly cooked, never brown or runny! The chicken fried steak is amazing! If there's a special and it's something they "smoked", then you can bet that will be amazing too! Don gets the smoker going nice and early to ensure good eatin' for the day! This is a great little find if you are in Minden and want some tasty, diner style food! The chicken fried steak was perfect, had a great crunch to it and was tender as could be. Home fries were a little soggy but I am one that likes any potato product crispy so that is my personal taste speaking up. They also serve what looked and tasted like a homemade biscuit and boy was it delish! There was a $1 upcharge on the bill, I'm assuming from the biscuit as we didn't order anything else out of the ordinary. Coffee was nothing spectacular, I'd say average for your 'run-of-the-mill' breakfast spots. Service was very friendly and fast. Coffee never went empty. We went during the NV day parade and the place was still packed with a wait the whole time we were there so I would imagine it would have been an even longer wait on a normal weekend day, so be prepared. read more

The Cowboy Cafe serves homemade old school breakfast and lunch. The food is good and the place crowded. However I have never been treated so rudely before. I have called in for a to go order and told not doing them and hung up on. I walked in and tried to get a to go omelet for my father in law with terminal cancer and was rudely yelled at that embarrassed me there will be no to go. Eggs are Eggs. I was able to get a vegan breakfast here by ordering side dishes. They have tortillas, sourdough toast (ask for no butter), avocado, and hash browns. Yum. Everything was really good, and the service was fast. I'd suggest to the owners to offer pancakes or waffles without dairy or eggs. It's 2018, and people are opening their eyes to animal welfare, and human health. I hope to come back here next year with more vegan friendly options. As breakfast places go I would rate this one very high, hence the 5 star rating. Mind you that this is not a linen table cloth high-end dinner spot but they do a great job on a casual breakfast. We were immediately greeted as we arrived and were able to be seated immediately. The coffee "starter" was delivered quickly and was very good. Our two entrees were served promptly and hot. Where do I start? The wait was about forty five minutes, so we knew we were in for a treat. I got to talk to some folks while waiting outside, people come here from all over the place. Locals I mean. Gardnerville, Genoa, Woodfords, Carson City, and Yerington. This truly is a locals breakfast and lunch restaurant. Located off 395 in minden, they have there own parking lot. When you arrive you have to put you name on a wait list, and probably wait outside. The waiting area inside is extremely small. I will guarantee you you will not be disappointed. We started out with one of there famous cinnamon rolls. It is so huge and filled with yummy gooey goodness, and topped with a generous portion of icing, that just screams love. I then went to the short stack of pancakes with bacon. Everything was wonderful. Service was excellent, in a packed restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. FANTASTIC!!! Great little place right off the highway going through town, don't go if you don't like guns, old west memorabilia, or amazing food. My gf and I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, sadly I didn't get a picture, but it was probably the best chicken fried steak I've had, and that's what I ordered every time we try a new breakfast spot. Her biscuits and gravy were fresh, home made, and spot on. Eggs for both of us were cooked perfectly over easy, and they were huge. There was only one waitress, very friendly, and she was running around like crazy, on top of it with the coffee refills and water. They have a ton of selection and their gravy is definitely homemade and not just sitting for days on a burner in a pot. A fine place to get an early morning high calorie fix in "Minderville". It's a little difficult to find, so keep a sharp eye out, especially if it's 6 in the morning and you are still bleary eyed before having your morning coffee. They are right on 395 and do open at 6 am, which as an early morning traveler, I do appreciate that; since I have been noticing that many so-called breakfast restaraunts are opening later in the morning. Breakfast is not a "rocket science" meal in terms of preparation. In fact I'd go as far as saying breakfast is a lot like pizza, even when it's bad it's still pretty good. I taught my wife to scramble an egg in just a couple lessons, and she hates to cook. Toast practically makes itself. Sausage; put a hunk of well seasoned ground pork between your hands and press then apply heat. I'm willing to be extremely forgiving when it comes to restaurants and breakfast prep. After all, they were nice enough to get up earlier than me and start cooking when I don't have the energy to do it myself. Having said that, I have made my last blurry eyed trip to Cowboy's Café for the most important meal of the day. I had slightly elevated expectations for this café after reading several yelps and hearing other local's opinions. But as I said, if it was average I still wouldn't be disappointed. When my wife and I walked in was pleased with the interior of the café. It was decorated in a fashion I'd imagine John Wayne's living room would look like. It appeared to be a clean, fun dining environment with little conversation pieces everywhere I looked. Our server greeted us immediately with a menu and a smile. I ordered a plate consisting of a split biscuit covered with sausage, egg and gravy sided with hash browns. The wife had a corned beef hash with a poached egg, home fries and toast. This is always her "make or break" meal to order for a first time in a restaurant. She figures if they get those items, they can't be all that bad. Well, they are all that bad. To jump ahead a bit, at the end of the meal I peered behind the grill just to see if the cook was someone I had wronged in the past or if they were perhaps training a very new cook. Yes it was so bad I was taking it personal. My first bite was the hash browns. As typical, they were crunchy outside and barely cooked inside. I'm fine with that. What wasn't fine was it tasted like it was cooked in rancid, burnt deep fryer oil. No exaggeration, it was that awful. I pushed those aside and started on the rest of the meal. Decent eggs but the sausage, biscuit and gravy tasted like it came straight from the freezer or can. This was a $10 McDonald's "Big Breakfast". As hungry as I was I couldn't get past a few bites before giving up. My wife's plate was just as bad. Straight out of the can corned beef hash, home fries that were so burnt they never should have left the kitchen and egg that would be more accurately described as hard boiled than poached. We both sampled her sourdough toast that had turned to a crusted mush from all the cold butter soaking in it. We've never left so much food on a plate before. I feel there was no home cooking involved in both plates. And the fact the amount of visibly burnt food did not attract the attention of the cook or the server before handing it over to us gives me the impression there's no concern for quality control. Perhaps their lunch menu more than makes up for their breakfast, I may never work up the nerve to find out. read more

We came in here after playing around in the desert heading back home and thought we would give them a try and were pleasantly surprised by the decent prices and hearty serving sizes. They were fast and friendly and we will for sure be back when coming through the area or in town again. The veggie omelet I got was hot and full of goodies I don't like mushrooms so they were happy to substitute with jalapeño peppers instead, which were fabulous since I love things spicy.
