These were good but felt that something was missing, maybe salt or maybe something in the sauce. That being said, there was a TON of chicken inside. What we REALLY enjoyed was the coconut shrimp. Amazing restaurant in Laguna right on the beach. Waiting can be big even at odd hours so keep in mind, you can reserve a spot on the phone. Parking is an issue but valet available at 4$ cash. Lots of vegetarian options available including beans, rice and if we can know cheese can be done. Love the veggie burrito and the veggie enchilada. This is such a cozy little spot. Beautiful views. Cool staff. We came for happy hour right at 3 and the bar was already packed with regulars. We sat at a table and they let us still have happy hour, which was cool. We got the tortillas soup, and the albondigas. The soups are solid. Flavorful. Served really hot. No notes. Came here for a late lunch with a larger group and got seated after 30 minutes. We sat in their lively colorful patio with a pretty ocean view. Chips and salsa are delish. I got the fish taco plate which came with refried beans and rice. The tacos were tasty, but the beans and rice were bland. My sister ordered the taco trio and got chicken, steak, and carnitas. She said the chicken had boney chunks in it, but the steak and carnitas tasted good. Side note, parking can be a hassle in this area, but they do offer valet parking. Although many years have passed, and my kids are full grown adults, Coyote Grill continues to be a great choice at the beach for a fantastic meal. I followed the reviews and got the fruit plate to share - which was so fresh and delicious! I had never been here for breakfast, and it did not disappoint. It was delicious! I got a carne asada tamale with eggs and it was fabulous! We had a 15 minute wait because we wanted to be out on the patio. As a local, I hate to do this.... 4 or 5 stars if rating off vibe alone. Their glorious local happy hour slightly easing the pain from what's really hiding behind this restaurant: really bad food. For the price, it amazes me how unacceptable the food is. Everything on the menu feels like the cafeteria version of Mexican, falling short to the likes of Baja Fresh, Wahoos, or even Rubios. I wouldn't be slightly surprised if the guac and salsa came directly from a prepackaged container at the Ralph's down the street, likewise the fajitas and tacos to have come slightly pre-seasoned from the service case and slapped on a hot grill just before yeeting it to the expo line. Hate to be harsh, but I simply don't understand it. I've had so many things on the menu - it's my uncles favorite place to take us - and every single time I'm left wincing at the sorry excuse for what ends up making its way down my gullet (looking at you calamari tacos). Sure it's edible - but the overall ambience, energy, service and charm excuse an otherwise damning culinary experience. Come here for happy hour, shoot back some cheap shots, relax with the locals after a long day of doing nothing, and be sure to indulge in the view that surely is responsible for the inflated price point of an otherwise extremely mediocre restaurant. read more

They're both a must try alongside a pomegranate margarita on the rocks, and a hot basket of chips and freshly made yummy salsa. I used to come here a lot (like 10-15 years ago), and loved it, plus seriously missed the calamari tacos! We ordered the plainer guac which is very plain avocado mash so I'd recommend the spicier one. It was a pretty small bowl of guac too but we really didn't need more. It was tasty. The tacos would've been really good, but the calamari breading was way, way too salty! Maybe it was an off day for the calamari seasoning. The other toppings were delicious. The burritos were also just ok, and the red sauce on top wasn't the best. I'm a huge breakfast burrito lover so the egg burrito was calling my name...kind of. I changed the ranchero sauce to salsa verde and the black beans to refried pinto beans. It satisfied my craving but I can't say it was some of the best I've had. The flavors didn't meld together as well but I appreciated that it came with a side of sour cream and guac. I also tried the aguachile as an appetizer and this was a delicious way to start the meal. I love very acidic, tangy flavors and this was heavy on the lime and high on the heat so it was a great combo. There's a lot of workers here so it's easy to get their attention and they also check in on you.
