These guys were very welcoming to a first time buyer. Instead of keeping a large selection, they seem to take more of a curated approach. For a first timer, I appreciate this since I wasn't looking for something exotic or too many choices to make. I also appreciate the good customer service, and not making me feel out of place. Keep in mind, for a first time, you will need to pass a very easy 30 item test (I did not need to study in advance). There is also a lot of paperwork, so give yourself at least an hour for the whole process of shopping and buying. And of course, you need to wait 10 days for the background check, then you can come back to pick up your gun. Oh, make sure your ID shows your current California address, if it doesn't you will need proof of current CA address. I was able to use my car registration card, as my ID address is old. I've been to a lot of gun shops, some full of arrogant assholes some just don't have anything but holsters and cleaning supplies. I checked out coyote point and have been very pleased with there inventory and customer service. The first time there I was helped by Camille, she was very helpful and patient with me and never brushed me off even after my 1000 questions. She eventually helped me settle on what I was looking for and has since helped with several other purchases. Their queue system is way better than the other gun shops on the San Francisco side of the bay. They have someone attending the door with a clipboard to take down names and phone numbers which they call when you're next. This allows you to chill inside your car instead of waiting hours outside in line. Their service is super friendly compared to other shops I've been to! Both times I came in have been pleasant. The first time, a woman was super nice and helpful when I was looking for magazines. The second time, I was looking for scope rings and the gentleman helped me pick out the cheapest rings they had available because I told them it was going on a $20 scope. He could've easily picked out the mid to top-level scope mounts but he was legit and gave me an honest product. We even chatted about painting guns and he informed me the current requirements to buy a long gun vs a pistol. The other place just turned me away even though my ID was enough to make a purchase. I had purchased CZ P01 about a month and a half ago. The price was reasonable and while they didn't have one in stock they had promised to have one in few days. Indeed, 2 days later I had received a call that my gun was in. I had to come in to do the paperwork. My electrical bill which I brought as proof of residency was outdated and I had to go home for a newer one. I just made it back before their closing time. The transaction went smooth. The guys in there appeared to know what they were doing. I would definitely use them again. Brought in a Glock 22 because the slide was jammed onto the frame. I was given the attention of 4 employees there, trying to figure out what happened to my .40. Customer service was excellent. Finally, I left it with the gunsmith who called me a couple of days that I needed to replace the barrel. The Gunsmith fee was reasonable at $45. read more

The younger gentleman behind the counter helped me, along with a younger woman, and who I think is the owner of the shop. They were all very knowledgeable, honest, and super friendly. After doing business with a number of Bay area gun stores I can confidently say Coyote Point Armory has consistently provided the best customer service and experience. The staff is extremely friendly and their passion for firearms is obvious. I purchased my first gun here and they were extremely thorough in explaining the process. On another occasion I had gone to multiple blacksmiths in the area to get a minor issue with my rifle fixed. Scott was able to take a few minutes of his busy day to take a look and fixed it in minutes. I know there's no guarantee that you can just walk into a gunsmith and cut the line, but he was at least willing to look at the problem even though he had a busy workload. Other stores didn't want to give me the time of day. I'll for sure be returning to Coyote Point for future firearm purchases. read more

If you're new to firearms, or you're not entirely sure of what you need or what you want - or you think you will be requiring gunsmithing services - then I recommend another place.** Pros: I decided that I wanted to purchase a Chiappa Rhino and this place had the best price of the 4 Bay Area gun shops that I canvassed. My piece was not in stock and needed to be ordered from a distributor, and the processes to do so was quick and efficient. I ordered my piece on a Saturday afternoon and it arrived in store that Wednesday by 10:30am. I was promptly called by CPA, and came in later that day to complete the Dros. I was assisted promptly and courteously. CPA has a great inventory of firearms and ammunition, as well as accessories such as cleaning kits, carrying cases, sights, etc. I had recommended CPA to 2 friends who had also purchased a Browning .22 pistol and a Sig Sauer P226 Extreme. Cons: I came in to pick up my piece the day after the 10-day waiting period had ended. I got in right as they opened, hoping to have the Rhino converted from single action to double action. The closing paperwork took a bit longer than expected, but everything turned out fine. I brought up the conversion from Single Action to Double Action and was promptly instructed to shoot the firearm at a firing range first to ensure that everything was in working order. The gunsmith did not want to open the firearm to complete the conversion as he said it would void the manufacturer's warranty. He said to drop it back off at CPA next week, and that it would take about 3 weeks to get my piece back. First off, before I purchased the Rhino, I did my due diligence and contacted Chiappa and inquired as to whether the conversion with Chiappa brand parts would void my warranty. The answer was unequivocally, "no, it will not void your warranty." Secondly, I did not want to wait almost a month to have my brand new piece converted from SA to DA so I inquired about purchasing the parts, and was promptly told, "No, the parts need to be purchased and installed here". Lastly, I just couldn't wait that long for a simple conversion. I called Solar Tactical in Livermore on a Tuesday and they informed me that they had the conversion parts available and would either sell them to me or have their gunsmith install them. I called them at 1:00pm, arrived at 4:30pm, and was out the door with service completed by 4:50pm. Pretty much what I had expected. CPA is certainly A-OK, and I will be certainly be back with tempered expectations. read more

this is the first time i've been here & it's the last time. i went the front door & was greeted by an employee. he asked if i was on the list & i said no. i then asked about a buckmark 22 & he said they didn't have that in stock. i told him i saw it on their website, so he went inside to check their inventory. he then confirmed they have it & asked if i wanted to be on the wait list. i said okay & he said it would be an hour or hour & a half. i went to do a couple of errands & came back a half hour later. i waited in the car for 45 minutes & check with the front door with no results. i waited another 15-20 minutes & decided enough is enough. no sale for you - you might be a great gun shop, but i guess i'll never find out. back to pennisula guns - they don't bullshit their customers. read more

I found out about this place while I was shooting at the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Seibel Firearms Training Range at Coyote Point a few years ago. One of the partners is a member of the Coyote Point Rifle Pistol Club (CPRPC) that runs the rifle range on the M-W-F evening public use days and CPA provided some of the targets. Prices seem to be on par for the SF Bay Area, if not a bit lower. They sometimes get some really nifty limited run items (1 of 10 or 20 in the US kinds of stuff.) Sometimes they have screaming one-off deals. The huge demand for iron seems to be ebbing so they have not had to make people wait in their cars lately. read more

I picked up a Glock 17 from them as my first firearm. I have previously taken classes with Bay Area Tactical, and was obviously nervous and intimidated going in. They're pretty cool and down to earth, and helped me take my FSC, and do the process for my Glock 17. They don't have a huge selection...but they do have the cheapest prices in the Bay Area. They are also fairly low key and mellow and have no interest in intimidating or degrading their customers. read more

I live in the San Mateo area and up until this point, I've had to resort to gun shops in the South Bay due to most of the ones in my area being crap. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but they have a really big selection. From muzzle break to stock, they have damn near anything you could want for an AR15. I went in for a bore sight and walked out with a bore sight, BCG, trigger assembly, rails, and a few other things. The guys behind the counter were helpful and very knowledgeable. I went in today looking for a specific pistol I had my eye on since last month. I left a happy customer after finding the pistol I wanted at a good price with great customer service. The store is located in a nice segregated area, as you come in you start to notice a big selection of accessories. Everything is displayed properly for your attention to be caught right away. The store is clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. I dealt with two guys in there, one talked to me about the gun and the other rang me up after a while of looking around. I have been to 3 different gun stores to make 3 purchases. My previous two experiences felt a lack of customer service. It was as if I was getting a free pistol and the staff was bother by it, opposed to me actually making a transaction that had pros for both parties. Not at Coyote Point Armory, I actually got friendly approach and questions answered efficiently. The friendly staff and customer service received here has led me to believe I will be coming back here for future purchases. Let's be honest you can find the same guns and competitive prices in many places. However, I want to feel welcomed and acknowledge properly when I'm ready to spend my money in a store.
