I loved this place for a long time, and I still do, but recently the service has taken a massive drop in quality. While the taller gentleman that cashiers occasionally is very nice and polite, the shorter one that seems to be the main cashier now has atrocious customer service. There have been more times than I can count now where I've asked for changes to the food (something simple like no beans) and this man neglects to follow through. I typically buy takeout from coyotes and then bring it home, so I rarely have the option to bring it back and ask them to change it. Not only that, but he is very rude and dismissive to customers. Curtly asks you what you want then rolls his eyes at the mildest inconvenience. While my Spanish is not the best, I understand the obscenities that he sometimes calls customers along with another short chef. This behavior is unacceptable, especially when this person is the first employee customers interact with. Serious change needs to be made else this restaurant's reputation will continue to decline. read more

Been a loyal customer of Coyote's for years. . . 2 times per month for at least 5 years. Sadly its slipped. Chief complaint is the new young man who works the register-takes the orders etc. He is unwelcoming, boarder-line rude, messes up the order all the time, and worst, unhygienic. Went last night and the guy was eating some nuts out of a plastic bag while taking my order (read licking his fingers) and then went on to handing out chips etc. I can only guess that this young man is the owner's son, as he should have been fired long ago. My wife will second the review of the other employee who usually takes the order, works the register, that he ogled her chest and made her uncomfortable. Eyes up dude. Basic manners. The patina is also long gone from the restaurant, the floors, walls etc need a good scrubbing. Chips are delicious, and chile verde good and lean. So bummed I'll have to be driving further for the family taqueria fix. I'll come back when the staff is changed and look forward to that happening. read more

Met with a couple of people to dine at a nearby cafe, which happened to be closed. We decided to try Coyote's instead. The restaurant is fairly small but with seating both indoors and outdoors. You order at the front and they bring out the food. I appreciated that when I ordered the chipotle burrito, I was warned that it would be a bit spicy. I went for it anyway and loved it! The portion was great. I didn't think it was huge but it was big enough to where I was satisfied. You get free chips and salsa (yay!) and the food came out quickly. Now that I know this place exists, I'll be stopping by again to try more of their menu items soon! read more

The food here is decent. I will say I really dislike the man that works there. He usually serves as a cashier and I believe he might run the place but he makes me very uncomfortable. The few times I've gone, he carelessly stares at my breasts even when I'm showing no skin. He has no shame in doing this and it's very inappropriate. I am underaged and it's very obvious which makes matters worse. With this restaurant being in an area where many high school students and especially girls go to, it should raise concerns. read more

I've been a loyal customer to coyote since a young age. coming in at least once a week with friends or just myself. The short man working the front register is very rude and can be sexist. I had gone in the other day with a friend in which he ordered his own meal that he paid for and got chips with while I did the same on a separate order. The man had not given me my chips that clearly says is complimentary with every order and made it a huge hassle to do so. Saying that I should be sharing from my friend. Imagine a Teriyaki Burrito or a peanut butter (my favorite) burrito or a Surf & Turf burrito, this place is NOT traditional. However, if you go in with an open mind, you might be very pleasantly surprised (or vomit for 8 hours straight like the other Yelper claims). Well, pleasantly surprised by the food, but much less likely to be surprised by fast help. When you walk in, you'll order at the counter. Expect to wait a few minutes in line before you place your order. You can either eat in at the tables or take out. The atmosphere is super casual. A meal will run you just about $10. read more

Decent Mexican spot in the Carlmont shopping center. They make a really tasty surf and turf burrito with both steak and shrimp. Ive also had their Ahi plate, which was alright, but I recommend the surf and turf burrito more. They also have Jamaica to drink, which is an enjoyable, authentic touch. I've never had bad food here, and the service is quick and friendly. They have a great veggie burrito, especially if you ask them to add nopales (cactus). It has black beans, rice, avocado, tomato and grilled onions and bell peppers. Very satisfying. They also make their own roasted tomato salsa (you can see the tomatoes lined up on the grill, roasting). I have been looking all over the peninsula for a good fish taco, nachos and green salsa and wouldn't you know it, it's walking distance from my house. Their nachos are some of the best I have had on the peninsula and their green salsa could rival that of Taqueria Real in Novato. The only down side to this place is that they are very chintzy with their chips and salsa and only offer one free refill for drinks. read more

I've only had take out here since it is a small Taqueria with very limited table space. First time I got a burrito here it was bland and I swore that this place was crap and I wouldn't go back. Was bummed since we just had moved to the area and hoped there would be a good take out place close by. I was persuaded to eat here again and I've tried a couple of their unique burritos and was pleasantly surprised on the second go-round. I love this place! I've been going to Coyote's for years, and even with a change in management, they've continued to offer small-town service. They may not greet me by name, but they know what I like to order, and the manager always asks about my mom and my son (who often come here on days she's watching him). Tacos Coyotes are so tasty. I always get one fish (sea bass) and one shrimp. I've tried fish tacos all over the peninsula and these are my favorites. The free chips are always warm and never over-salted. The free salsa choices are all great: spicy, mild, verde. Another sign that Coyotes has very good price-performance is the high number of Hispanic customers during the week for lunch. When I ordered my fajita burrito, which is suppose to have grilled bells and onions, pepper jack cheese, chipotle sauce and my meat choice was steak. The burrito I recieved didnt have onions, the bells werent grilled they were more like steamed and the steak was in huge chunks which made it impossible to eat. My mouth was wrestling the steak. The cheese was also not pepper jack it was a mozzarela of some kind. But in the end what I ate didnt taste bad it was just different from what the menu described. their Coyote's burrito is SO good, as is their shrimp burrito. Good salsas at the salsa bar too. Nice, authentic food. Minus one star for service: when I got there most recently around 3pm, the teenager working the cash register had his back to me checking his phone. Then, my burrito was ready at the counter but no one ever told me it was mine. Teenager was literally outside the restaurant texting, then giving his friend change and ignoring the actual PAYING CUSTOMER in front of him. Kitchen guy finished a burrito then was chatting with others - fine, but I'm the only person at the counter. I left thinking the food took awhile, came back and asked if that same burrito sitting there 10 min ago was mine. He said yeah and packaged it up. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I'm the only person that just ordered (meaning it was probably for me) and you couldn't just hand it to me? WTF. The chips that come on the side with the burrito were also super paltry - like eight chips total, no joke. Another WTF. Boy am I glad I didn't read the reviews here before going to Coyote's for lunch. I'm not so sure that I would have headed over there had I known that there were such mixed reviews on the place. In any case, I was already headed over to Lorenzo's to try their famous garlic sauce sandwiches before I saw Coyote's out of the corner of my eye and made a split second decision to have a burrito for lunch instead. (I didn't think people would appreciate my garlic breath post-meal at Lorenzo's.) The place was semi-packed and it helped that they had outdoor seating where you could enjoy the sun while snacking on their homemade chips and salsa. I decided to go for the Coyote Special burrito with grilled steak, which wasn't quite up to Mission standards but pretty hefty anyway. The grilled steak was surprisingly tender and flavorful, although their guacamole could use a bit more something- it was a bit bland. Their roasted tomato salsa was okay but I wanted something spicier- it took some Tapatio to get it toward the flavor I wanted. They are generous with their chips, but they're somewhat stale and unsalted. Overall, an okay, though somewhat pricey meal. The burrito plus small soda was a shade under $10 and while its still inexpensive, it just seems like a lot to pay after having been at the Mission taquerias. read more

Probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. Growing up in Cali, I know what good Mexican food is. Coyote Cafe just does it right. Their Mexican style steak tacos are utter no-frills perfection. The price is right, too: everything on their menu is a bargain. They even serve local craft beer on tap! I love this place. It is my go-to for a quick burrito place in Belmont. I almost always get my burritos to eat right away, and I'm in love with their surf and turf burrito. It's almost always done perfectly, with hot and flavorful shrimp along with steak. Delicious. I've also tried their steak and lime, which is also really yummy. My daughter loves going to get burritos with me and loves their rice and bean burritos (sometimes I get meat with it). I'm also a fan of their salsas. Yum! The service has always been great for me, and the person who usually takes my order is really friendly. I suppose I should take advantage of calling first to order my burrito and then picking it up, because it can take a bit of time to make 3+ burritos for our family, especially if they're working on other orders, but I don't mind waiting and eating chips. read more
