Here's the problem...and it might not be a problem specific to Cozumel but to the American palette. Mexican food should have flair, flash, pizzazz, and above all flavor. Not everything should smack you in the face with heat (think horchata) but everything should be spiced and full of fresh and enticing flavors. Cozumel doesn't really make true Mexican food. It's more Americanized like you get at "Chinese" restaurants. That makes me annoyed. If I'm going to have Mexican I want true Mexican! If I want the fake stuff I will go to Taco Bell. The food was okay. Nothing special. Most of the flavor came from the hot sauces on the table. My server, though nice, was a little on the clueless side. The decorations are straight out of a satirical cartoon and unnecessary leaving the ambiance something akin to Speedy Gonzalez's bedroom. The Independence location is better by far.

Sparkly and new! The decor is striking, down to the hand blown light fixtures and the food was fantastic without being too expensive. I know what you're thinking...it's Cozumel, they are a family of chain restaurants, but they are to much more. Welcoming from the moment you step in, the wait staff pays attention to the details and for a dairy free individual the kitchen exceeded my expectations. We sat at high tops in the bar area, the service was great and food even better. Starting with chips, salsa and guacamole how can you go wrong. Fresh and overflowing until you say stop, it's easy to keep eating. We ordered main dishes, had a few tweaks and the kitchen was very accommodating. I had the seafood chimichanga since it's Lent, with the addition of a roasted pablano sauce and it was hot and fantastic, full of flavor. We will definitely be back a little too often.

This place deserves five stars! The food was fantastic! The chips and salsa were hands-down the best I've had in a long time. Everything tasted so fresh! I got the Mexican tacos, which was steak tacos with chorizo mixed. They were served like street tacos they gave you onion and cilantro, and green sauce to put on them. So delicious! My partner got enchiladas and she said they were delicious. I thought the refried beans were the best I've ever tasted. In fact, I got some to bring home. The portions were very large. Customer service was absolutely wonderful. They were just so kind and on top of everything I never had to look for them, but yet they weren't obtrusive.

The picture speaks for itself! The food is really good and well portioned. The staff is very friendly and professional. The establishment was very clean. It wasn't busy when we went so we ate our meal in peace. I've noticed some reviews on other platforms from customers complaining about the prices, and yes, it can be a bit "pricey" but for the authenticity and quality, it's really not.

The first Cozumel I ever went to failed me on every level both times I went, so coming to this location (which I have now been to a few times) was a scary experience but let me tell you, they were quite fabulous. My wait time to get seated, even on the busiest nights, has been short as they worked hard to clear tables the moment they were vacated, the delivery of chips and salsas was short, and the time to order and then receive my food was fairly rapid on all visits. So right away there are pluses to initial service offered. I like my foods spicy, so I asked if they had anything spicier in the form of Salsa, and they brought me a "homemade" version they keep, which offered a heartier kick. I had to get my water brought to me often, so good Salsa! I am a man of pretty simple tastes, so when I find something I love, I tend to stick with it. At another restaurant, I always get something they call "Chicken Chipotle"... well here it is called "Polo Chipotle," and it is Delicious, Spicy, and FILLING! Everything here is large portion and filling. Easily can I get a lunch out of my dinner. And if you ask for your meal to be extra spicy, they listen. Love my Cozumel experience!

My wife and I love what they have done to this restaurant. They have completely renovated this place from the previous Somers restaurant. Cozumel seems to have a steady flow of customers here. We also like their Lakewood location. We come here a few times a month. We love the food and the chips and salsa are plentiful. But sometimes the service isn't what you would expect. They don't come back often enough to check on us or refill drinks. But overall we recommend. It's our favorite Mexican spot.

The half pitcher ... holy moly.

I have a pretty basic matrix for deciding if I like Mexican food. Salsa. Beans Margaritas Quality of the meat Like movies and wine, we all have a different opinion of what makes Mexican food good. I grew up eating Tex Mex, so it has a special place in my heart, but I'm agreeable to all variations. Salsa--I make no attempt To hide my hatred for cilantro. It's of the devil! The salsa did have cilantro in it, but it wasn't so much that I was overwhelmed, nor was I unable to enjoy it. It wasn't thick and chunky salsa, nor was it watery and thin. It was well balanced and quit tasty, one that would please almost everyone! If you're looking for super hot salsa, this is probably not your place. It's mild, but tasty. Beans--spot on! Nothing scary in them. Margaritas--excellent! And they pack a punch! Great flavor. Not watered down. And they come in four sizes! Regular, large, 1/2 pitcher, and full pitcher! I walked over from my hotel, and it was a very rainy, thunderstormy kind of day, so I committed to a half pitcher. And let me tell you, one person does not need to drink a half pitcher and attempt to drive home. The half pitcher equals 3 full glasses of the regular size. Just so you know! Meat-- based on the advice from my waitress,, I ordered the chicken fajitas. The moment I heard them sizzling from the kitchen, I knew I had chosen wisely! The chicken was thinly sliced, allowing them to cook quickly. The vegetables were perfectly seared to the cast-iron plate, creating tasty caramelized onion and pepper bits. Normally, I don't care for mushrooms in my fajitas, but in this case it worked! Maybe it was the margaritas? Maybe it was the rain? Regardless, they were super tasty. And here's something you can try for the next time you order sizzling fajitas--I always dump my salsa into the sizzling fajita plate. It really works!

Chips and salsa. Regular and spicy salsa.

This is a great place I found while traveling for work. I really live Mexican food like non other. The salsa is very flavorful and not at all bland. I asked for the spicy salsa to mix with the regular for a little extra kick and boy, it kicked. The house margaritas are yummy. I drink by the half pitcher full! They do not taste like a cheap watered down version you get some places. The Cozumel Fajitas are huge and flavorful as well. Kinda your typical fajitas tbh and are perfectly flavored and a good mix of meat and baggies. but what I judge the most are the margaritas and salsa. If those are good, the food is good as well. This place is on the pricier side compared to most so bring your wallet lol.

Chicken Fajita - For One, Pollo con Crema, frozen margarita.

Great Mexican food! Started with the queso which was addicting. Chips and salsa both were fresh and delicious- really good salsa. We went for dinner last night boyfriend got the fajitas as usual and I got the pollo con crema. I got this as takeout one day from here and fell in love. It is chicken and peppers in a sour cream sauce. I really don't know what is in it but that sauce is amazing. I opted to add mushrooms and onions this time and it was SO good. They did up charge me nearly 2$ to add the veggies which I thought was a lot considering there were not many at all. We split a half pitcher of regular frozen margarita which was good but could have used a bit more tequila. Also tried a mojito and it was delicious, but also a bit weak. Overall service was friendly food was great, drinks were ok and we would definitely come back.

We discovered Amigos a couple years ago, when seating was very limited, but they recently expanded and the decor is more inviting and authentic. We've tried a lot of things on this menu and have never been disappointed. Our food has always been fresh and plentiful, served with a smile. Two things I can ecstatically recommend: their house guacamole and their margaritas. Their hearty and bold guacamole is made fresh to order right at your table and it's become our favorite guacamole. We love their mango margaritas. We have found chunks of mango in ours, and make certain to always get the rims coated with tajin because they use tamarind to get the spice to stick to the rim--so tasty! This time I was inspired to look for a Mexican ceviche. In my most recent adventure, I visited Taqueria La Loma in Akron and very much enjoyed my meal. After ordering from the counter, I sat down and was quickly given some fresh chips and salsa to snack on. Although these were delicious, I probably should have passed on this because what I ordered was much more that I could eat alone. I was impressed by the flavor and value of the Mixed (shrimp and octopus) Ceviche, and would absolutely suggest it to anyone. I'd never had octopus ceviche before, and was concerned about chewiness, but was pleasantly surprised at how tender it was. I assume the shrimp ceviche is similarly good. I also ordered 3 birria tacos. I found there was maybe slightly too much cheese in the taco, but the tasty consomé dip was impressive. To wash it all down, I had one of the best horchata drinks I've ever had in my life. It was sooo good and a must-have. The staff was attentive and helpful, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was basic, but clean, and looks like the kind of authentic place you'd want to go for a casual but tasty Mexican food meal. I will be recommending this place to my co-workers in the Akron office, and will go back again next time I'm in town.
