We have never had a disappointing experience here. I like that they are consistent. What you'd expect from a diner: not the healthiest of options but if you're in the mood for large portions and friendly service, this isn't bad at all. The place needs a bit of updating but it did seem to be "cozy", lots of older people where there when I took my family who is from out of state there. For the 3 of us it was about 43 bucks - ordered 2 western bacon burgers with season fries, Turkey/bacon/avocado sandwich with reg. fries and 3 drinks. The burgers were cooked well but the waitress did mess up on our order, nothing big though. The staff was nice enough, it seemed like a place for regulars. I haven't tried anything but the sandwich so I can't comment on the breakfast but MAYBE I'll be back. read more

Ordered the chicken dinner to go with baked potato, salad and corn bread. There was no butter for the cornbread, no baked potato sour cream or butter for it. Cute little diner for a traditional Sunday morning breakfast experience! The mochas are amazing (is that cinnamon I detect?), and the chicken fried steak deals are heavenly for lovers of good 'n greasy American fare. However, the eggs and hash browns beg for salt and hot sauce. Staff was friendly enough, but we asked our waitress for a glass of ice water twice before a manager (I assume?) who was walking past our table brought it promptly at our request. If you don't mind sub-par service in exchange for more flavorful, cheaper food, I'd go to Denny's instead. read more

We used to eat here regularly for dinner. Lately the quality seems to have gone down a bit. Tonight we gave it a try again. I ordered a bowl of Vegetable Beef Barley soup. It really was a pile of barley that had soaked up all the broth with a few tiny bits of carrots and celery and very little meat. Disappointing. read more

I have been to Cozy Diner countless times in the past few years. This last time really bothered me.. So the food.. its alright, nothing spectacular. They usually seem to burn my bread or make my buns super soggy but I get over it. Now lets get to my issue, we all know there is one.. The child milkshake that is says in large print at the bottom of the menu.. you can substitute you sundae for a shake for 99 cents, so my child did. The server said nothing in fact I think it was the manager who took the order and I specifically said we will be upgrading our sundae to the shake just so he would know I did not want a huge shake for my daughter. It comes and literally its... three inches tall and half of it has nasty glazed berries in it, who does that? no whipped cream and three drinks its gone.. No biggie its 99 cents right? We get the ticket, its now 2.95 for the shake that I very well would have ordered the larger shake if I would have known the price no big deal.. maybe they forgot to upgrade it.. NOPE they changed thier menu.. when I ask.. they tell me yesterday.. they no longer do the upgrade so, upset I am but calm I ask say .. well since now i am paying full price for this stupid shake can I get the sundae then.. they said no we also dont do sundaes anymore... effective yesterday apparently I said well it said on the menu.. nope no one wanted to listen.. They insisted that this was alright to do to a customer, I wouldnt have been as upset if they would have told me ahead of time.. I would have said no shake for you, we can go to powells afterwards.. I love coming to Chico's Cozy Diner for breakfast. The food is great and the morning staff is AWESOME. Also, Cozy DIner sells pie that is real pie, not pudding and kool whip. Great pies; I buy pie "to go." I have been to the Cozy DIner a couple of times for dinner. The food was good, but the evening dining room staff disappointed me. I really wanted to finish off my meal with some pie, but I couldn't get my waitress to stop at the table long enough to take a dessert order. My suggestion to the evening staff: Try a little warmth; make a connection with your customer, the way the breakfast staff do. Hooray for Chico businesses that hire students. But please, give these young people adequate training and supervision. read more

PROS! no long wait times, quick and super efficient employees plus decent prices! I appreciate the atmosphere and the low key vibe of the "diner" feel. FRENCH TOAST was amazing and I will be back often for that!!! Eggs and ham was cooked so perfectly and recognizable that i felt at home in grandmas kitchen!! The portion sizes are humongous!!!Completely worth the prices!! (Look over menu very carefully when choosing, chances for double up items is common!!) i ordered the big breakfast combo and boy was it BIG! Food is great and cooked to order. Servers were friendly and not too over the top, Perfect moods for early morning breakfasts ;) Checked on us enough to keep our drinks filled and enough condiments and napkins! CONS: Was served a dirty glass when i ordered a mimosa!! (glass makes it easy to spot dirt and grime, check your cups before serving ladies!! NO ONE likes drinking out of dirty glasses!) The menu is could definitely use some condensing!! At the end of our meal, my sister and I realized that we had basically ordered the same breakfast options (with small choices like sausage vs bacon and toast preference) yet we had been charged totally different amounts! Since its a build your breakfast type place and they claim to be able to "make whatever" you want, breaking the confusing menu down for easy to read meals plus have an add on option section. I eat here every Thursday morning at 7:45. I am truly a regular customer here at this establishment. Granted, the breakfast menu is what I'm most familiar with, but I have had lunch and dinner here on a number of occasions. First of all, it's a diner. I don't expect gourmet cuisine when I eat here. I do expect my bacon to be crispy, my toast to not be burned, and my scrambled eggs to not be runny. Cozy Diner gets an A+ for always managing to get these 3 things right, and if they don't they correct their mistake right away. Breakfast is good. My only complaint is what they consider "biscuits and gravy." Having lived in Virginia for 16 years, I prefer fluffy, "cat-head" sized biscuits smothered in chunky sausage gravy. Apparently "small hockey puck covered in thin white sauce" is the standard here in Chico. Or at least here at the Cozy Diner. The only other things I'm familiar with at Cozy Diner are their burgers and sandwiches. Again ... never had a complaint. They are big, filling, and reasonably priced. You won't leave this place hungry. The only nit-picky thing I have about this restaurant is that all of a sudden, out of the blue some of my favorite servers were wearing tennis elbow braces in odd places or large band-aids. "What's that all about?" I thought. Well, it seems that all of a sudden, management laid down the law that their servers had to cover their tattoos. Why? They might be considered "offensive" to customers. Oh wow ... are some of the staff sporting skinhead tats? Satanic symbols? Shoot ... are they sporting religious ink that might offend non-religious customers? I suppose there's a slight chance that a flower or a shamrock or a bird might be considered offensive to some, but really people. This is 21st century California. Most of the folks I know sport ink. I almost bought the staff some band-aids that had snake-covered skulls drawn on them to cover their offensive flora and fauna, but I try to choose my battles wisely and I didn't want to get them in trouble. I respect the right of any business owner to set policies regarding their employee's attire. I just don't particularly like it when the policy is made after the employee is hired. Not very good food! I ordered a bacon cheese burger and Caesar salad. The bacon was thick and good but very salty. The burger came with no toasted bun and no condiments on the bun. The Bisquets and gravy were cold and the bisquets were hard. The hashbrowns were luke warm and hard, it was like eating tooth picks. I pushed my plate away with only a couple of bites and went to the cash register,the waitress never asked how it was and I didn't offer. I'll be a silent customer and never go back there again. This diner was far worse than any other diner we have eaten at. The owner flat out stated that customer service was not a priority there. My husband brought to the waitress attention that a fly was stuck in our ice cube in the water. She said that was nasty. They tried to tell us that it landed in it but that isn't possible because it was frozen in it. It obviously happened in the ice machine. Then they argued about it and got the manager involved. He basically accused my 53 year old husband of lying. He's a respectable business owner and had no business to be doing that for a cheap meal that was already less than quality food. The food is always cold, dirty silverware and you can't ever get a cup of coffee and expect a refill. One of the waitresses wears a cast on her hand to keep her excema from flaking off in customers food. It's dirty and unsanitary. One of the waitresses is usually to hung over to keep up with orders so you are better off getting your own. They smoke just outside the door and don't wash their hands when they return. Absolutely horrible food!! I had the beer battered fish with mashed potatoes, garlic bread, soup and apple pie. The fish crust was soggy and the fish had no flavor. The mashed potatoes tasted awful couldn't even eat it. My minestrone soup was like warm and the vegetables were over cooked. Very disappointed in the pie. I used to eat at Cozy Diner occasionally. It was not great but not bad. Standard diner food, if you stick with breakfast and sandwiches it was pretty good. I stopped going after the first of the year. That's when they began charging a fee for paying with a card. This normally wouldn't bother me, a lot of businesses do this, but it was the way that they did it. The management posted signs claiming that the extra charge was not really an "extra" charge. They claim that the price listed in the menu is a discount price for cash paying customers and that if you choose to pay another way that you are choosing to reject the discount. WTF? The menu price is "the" price, not a discount. If you charge more than menu price that is an additional fee. This is really insulting to the intelligence if their customers. Stop being dishonest and admit that you're raising prices on customers who pay with cards. read more

My wife and two young boys experienced very poor service from our waitress and were verbally assaulted by the manager. The waitress served cold food and forgot other items so we asked her to warm up the food please. She muttered under her breath loud enough for ya to hear, "Of course it is!" When she returned I asked her if that was directed to us and she looked like she embarrassed and stumbled out a poor excuse. At this moment, the floor manager approached dripping sweat from his head all over our table and food and accused us of hassling "his" waitress. I told him she was responding and answering questions just fine and that he could leave. He continued to be disrespectful infringement of my family and I told him to go wipe his sweaty face (because now I was just irritated with both of them being so unprofessional). He replies, "I'll wipe my face with you!" Then he goes to his manager and tells him that I used profanity when no customers heard this because I never did. Needless to say, this man should be fired and the company should issue us an apology. Please if you continue eating here you report any discourteous or disrespectful attitudes. I have always loved Cozy's broasted chicken dinner, especially on Monday nights when it is buy one get one free, but not tonight, first I was told that since I was getting it to go I could not get baked potato, soup and salad, as I always get, I could only have mashed potatoes and cole slaw, then she said I could get soup instead of the cole slaw. What about the soup and salad, we don't do that on orders to go anymore". Then I never got the cole slaw, she gave us the wrong drinks, no butter with the bread, and the mashed potatoes were ok, but the gravy was blech! While waiting for my order, watched several other to go orders that had baked potato in them! I will probably come back to Cozy again some day, but it will be a while and I guess I will not take it to go, because you get ripped off. We love taking the kids here for a quick and easy meal when we just don't want to cook. Their pancakes are yummy and their non-breakfast stuff is not terrible either. Typical diner food but super cheap. We've never spent more than $30 for a family of 4 and we almost always have leftovers. It is a good atmosphere for people-watching and they always have some sort of sport on TV. All around pretty good place. read more

worst service EVER!!! My 2 sisters and I were seated promptly.....after 15 minutes I had to flag somebody for drinks and menus we were told our server would be right there. A waitress came and rudely explained she was not our server but she would take our drink order and send the server over. Another waitress brought the drinks and took our meal orders but we never saw her again. A man I assume was a manager brought the food to the table. In the meantime a couple that came in behind us were finishing their dessert by the time we got our drinks. The waitress that was "not our server" brought our bill my sister told her 2 of the meals were from senior menu she overcharged $4.00 each meal. She said she did not know how to do senior menu. When I asked her about desserts from an extensive list right on the table I was told all they had was a custard and a bread pudding. If they want to close prior to posted business hours CHANGE the sign! I fault the 2 managers working at the time however there is never an excuse for a waitress to be rude! I was very excited to eat at this diner. I mean the name literally says "cozy". From the minute I walked in the door my excitement started to go down. My girlfriend and I had to wait a very long time to be seated and the place wasn't even busy. Once we got seated it took even longer to get our order placed. It was intentional because in the time we were waiting to place our order there were three more parties seated in our section. All those parties got service right away from ordering their drinks to ordering food. When we finally got noticed the food was just mediocre. It didn't look fresh at all, it was not pleasing to the eye or to the palette. This place I would have to say has discrimination towards young people because my girlfriend and I are both respectful college students and everyone in there at the time were much older. All of their older guest got great service, and those three parties I mentioned earlier were also older people. I'm going to have to stick with I HOP :) read more

Typical diner food only missing highway with truckers stopping in. Old 1940s-'60s car photos all over the walls to check out. Nice friendly staff and very fast service. I've tried their burgers and the chicken fried steak with fries (fries didn't seem really cooked, not raw but no crisp to them at all.) Portions seemed smaller than the last couple times I stopped by to go along with prices edging up a little bit. But that is going on at many places thanks to the economic times. They offer coupons in a local weekly paper so you might want to get one. Fun to 'people watch' in there, sometimes it can be very entertaining seeing some customers looking like they belong in a Fellini film. On one weekend morning visit a couple of us were seated in a booth next to a guy probably in his 50s who was already there, flipping thru a newspaper so fast no way he could be reading it but he stopped, glared at us right after we were seated, huffed, then went back to his newspaper almost like no one should have been seated next to him. read more
