Every time we come to visit my father in law up in Chico we have to go to the Cozy Diner! The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly! We came in with a party of 20 and they were so sweet to put us in a back room to accommodate us all. I wish I got our servers name because the service was AMAZING! Did I mention the food yet? I had the corned beef hash. Wasn't expecting homemade, but wasn't expecting burnt either. Tasted like old oil. So did the hash browns and chicken fried steak. Sad because it's a cool place. The food was gross. I gave two stars because the wait staff was trying. It was super busy. Wait times were long. It took over ten minutes just to get someone to take a beverage order. Once the food order was placed it was 20 minutes or better before food was on the table and even then it was all delivered at the same time. I don't recommend. Right away I wish that I would have know up front when I ordered coffee there were 2 options, but other than that my waitress Vanessa was super sweet. This is what you would expect from a local diner, with some surprises! It had local art and pictures. Very stereotypical look and feel. Fresh pies and orange juice, and as you can see from my photos, a menu to rival Cheesecake factory! IMO too many options is bad, but the point of a Diner is for everyone to be welcome and always be able to find something they can enjoy. This place has it! There are also 5 giant flat screen TVs! Not quite what I was expecting. Usually a Diner is a place you come to be with people and just chat or read the paper! Yes they had that, but the TVs were honestly a good touch! Another way you can enjoy your stay! The coffee tastes great, the staff was friendly, always kept me filled up, and if I went back I would try their desserts because they looked AMAZING!! Smelled & looked amazing but we were wrong. My uncle, cousin & I all ordered cheeseburgers. We were asked if we wanted tomatoes, lettuce, pickles & onions in which we all said yes too. We were asked if we wanted mayo & mustard on our buns, we just wanted mayonnaise. It took 30 minutes to receive our order. Once our order arrived there was no mayo on any of the burgers, my one slice of tomato was the size of a quarter, my uncle didn't get onion for his burger & when asked for them we were made to feel like difficult patrons. The beef patties were so much smaller than the buns & were disgusting, strange texture & fell apart like shredded cardboard. The fries were fine though. We only ate a few bites of our meal. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong items or they are better with breakfast. Doubt any of will go back though. read more

I've eaten here about once a week with my daughter for a pretty long time. I usually spend about $30 and tip anywhere from $7-$10. Today was my last visit, and I left before anything came to my table. Upon walking in, the host told us to sit anywhere. Cool. He did not drop menus or take a drink order. Fail. Our server walked by 3 times without even glancing in our direction, let alone saying she'd be right with us, sorry for the wait, etc. Fail. She asked if we had been given menus. Was this even her section? Fail- obviously we hadn't. She went to get menus, which I didn't ask for as I I knew our order already. I reiterated I didn't need one, and she immediately left the table to put them back. Fail. When she came back, I ordered an apple juice for my daughter along with chicken strips and fries, and a diet soda with a club sandwich and fries for myself. I watched her write down the order. She then asked me again what I was drinking. Really? In my 20 years in the restaurant business I can't recall having to ask someone's drink order less than 30 seconds after already having taken it. Fail. In disbelief, I told her again. Immediately she said something to the effect of "oh, I have to take his order first", turned around and took the order of the guy in the next booth- I guy day drinking a Budweiser. Dang, really? He's obviously not in a hurry and I have a 4 year old- an age not known for being really patient. Fail. I've withstood slow service at Cozy for a long time. I get it- folks are hard to find these days, labor cost needs to be kept to a minimum to keep from going out of business, and servers are being given a bigger than normal section to keep those costs down. Stressed about your life? Check that at the door. Don't like the way a customer orders? Bummer. Our tips make your shifts worthwhile, not the minimum wage your boss is paying you. Turning around to take the order of a dude who looks every part of a boozer, drinking schwill beer at 2 in the afternoon as a way of "punishing" a customer? First of all, it took so long for our food to come out, then when it did I was presented with a strawberry syrup soaked waffle that didn't move, was stained red, and had no real strawberries on it. As I was inspecting my food, my server then took my plate away leaving me with just my side of hash browns to get over my hangover. You would think I would know that there would be a whole ass gallon of strawberry syrup on my waffle but it did not say that in the menu. I also asked for butter on the side and she was awfully confused as to why I wanted that, and didn't even thinking to tell me it was doused in strawberry syrup. Not sure what happened to this place. French toast was amazing and bacon was good. BUT the food was warm at best, the sausage and chicken fried steak was still cold in the middle. The hashbrowns tasted re heated and they never bothered to refill our waters that we pushed to the edge of the table so they could see. To top it off when we paid the main guy counted the cash (good procees) and then let go of all the bills before they reached our hands. They fell scattered on the ground. He said nothing and moved on to the next person as we were still clearly in the way. This was the only restaurant my family and I would come to because we got good service but this was horrible. Not the same Cozy Diner Food is horrible... had the fish and chips . Not cooked, batter was raw and mushy. The fries were cold . Looked like they just dumped cold fries on the plate . Used to be best in town !! It was horrible. Greasy and cold . French fries half cooked . The cream pies chocolate and coconut 3/4 of pie was whipped cream .. very little filling. Crust was tough . Needed a knife to cut it . This was a take out dinner or would have sent it all back . When I picked up the dinners there were 6 waitresses working and only 5 tables with people at 5:30 on a Sunday . The very busy hard working manager (bald fellow) gave me amazing service when he sat me down, during my meal and even when I paid at their counter. My waitress did a fine basic job however it was their manager that kept an eye on not only my table but also the approx 30 other table being served while I was there for dinner. My deluxe burger was good. The fries weren't bad. They have Sierra Nevada beer on tap which is a plus. I'm rating the Cozy Diner a 4 mainly because of value as well as the service of their manager. The food is a 3 however when one considers the value, service and so on they deserve at least a 3 1/2 or 4. I went here with a coworker as I was craving a good club sandwich, and I was not disappointed. This was probably one of the best club sandwiches that I have ever had. It was huge, and they did not skimp on the ingredients. The tomato was not that ripe but it isn't there season anyhow, so I am not going to hold that against them. I had onion rings with a side of blue cheese, and it was delicious. The onion rings were crisp and fried perfectly. The service was friendly, prompt and efficient, and the place was clean. My complaint is mainly with the website. It is NOT UPDATED. Prices are from years ago. I haven't been in years, so I decided to look at the menu on the website before going there. I didn't realize that the prices on the website do not match the prices on the menu. When I called to say I was over charged (check was not itemized), I was told by a manager that the website hasn't been updated in years. He said that employees and customers complain, but the owner does nothing about it. When I asked who I can complain to, he said the owner. Be warned. It seems like a false advertising marketing scam to lure you in and then hit you with the higher prices! Also, don't order the strawberry crepe. They fill it with strawberry glaze not strawberries. Really Really Bad service from the short guy working up front. Been to the cozy many times because my kids like it. However today will be my last time. I ordered some take out, and was told it would be 25 minutes. I arrived 25 minutes later, and told the guy at the counter my name and that I was picking up an order. So I sat and waited. Half an hour later he grabbed a bag that was behind the counter the whole time I was there. When I asked why he let my food sit there so long, he said it was "busy" and that he just looked. It was a Sunday, but he wasn't so busy that he couldn't turn around and look. When I became upset, he asked me if I wanted it or not. As cliched as it sounds, this place has something for everyone. I love that they serve breakfast all day. Their country fried steak is massive! I have had so many different entrees on the menu, and it's all been good to awesome! My personal fave is their fried chicken - crisp and piping hot, with juicy tenderness inside. They are open for indoor seating, which we didn't know prior to ordering takeout. This is currently against state guidelines. The man who rang us up was fumbling with a face guard for a while, then gave up and decided to go maskless for the entire interaction. Regardless, we had just evacuated and gotten no sleep. We took our food back to where we were staying (right around the corner, less than two minutes away) and were met with the worst food I've ever had from Cozy. My boyfriend's omelette was full of eggshells, the biscuits were clearly very stale, the gravy was watery in consistency and tasted incredibly bland (There was no sausage or anything in the gravy either). On top of the food being bad in general, everything was lukewarm. Like I said, we were transporting it less than two minutes away. Being dissatisfied with our service, we called and opted to return our food. By this point my brother-in-law had eaten one of his biscuits because he was starving, but was repulsed. When we went back to the restaurant, they insisted on only refunding half of our $60 order because of this. That one biscuit and the single bites out of the rest of our orders did not equate to $30 worth of food. They were incredibly rude in addition to everything, of course. read more

The staff is friendly and the coffee is decent diner coffee. They have photos of cool old cars surrounding the restaurant and super comfy booths to sprawl out in. The atmosphere is similar to a Denny's. They have jalapeños to add to my omelet... That's the first thing I ask when going to a new place. It would unfortunately be a nonstarter if they didn't have them. They have an awesome variety of hot sauces on the tables. My omelet came out stuffed full but it was very thin like a crêpe. It was good, but I know I can get a nice thick omelet stuffed just as full at the Farmer's Skillet (previously called Country Waffle). After a night of heavy drinking, I was craving a diner style breakfast. I got the Chicken Fried Steak for $8.69 and comes with eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and a piece of bacon and sausage. The chicken fried steak was decent, definitely hit the spot. The gravy was really bland, but that's what usually happens with a plain white gravy. Wish it was a sausage gravy to give it more flavor. The biscuits were dense and nothing special, but covered in the gravy. Was not really a fan. The bacon and sausage were good and the eggs and hashbrowns were cooked right. All and all, cheap prices, big portions, and decent food. Sure, the food isn't the best I've ever had, but that's diner food. The hubby and I like to go here for breakfast on the weekend. He loves the French Toast and I go for the something different every time - waffles, omelette, pancakes, crepes... They serve breakfast all day which is a plus. To be a good breakfast place in my book, a restaurant has to have tasty hash browns. Cozy passes with flying colors. Their hash browns are crispy on the outside and soft and well cooked on the inside. Not extra greasy like so many places (Waffle House!). Scrambled eggs tend to be overcooked, so I choose over easy instead. When I ordered the New York steak breakfast "medium" was definitely "well done", which was a bummer. They offered to make me a new one though, so that was a plus. The service is excellent here. They constantly refill your coffee or drink without having to ask - love that! All the times I have gone here (including for dinner sometimes), I have gotten excellent service. That's important to me. The prices are competitive and they have some incredible specials. I still have not tried the Broasted chicken, but I hear that it's good. They make their pies from scratch and they are very good. The ambiance is pretty much like a Coco's / Carrow's / Denny's - mostly booths. They have several big screen TVs with sports playing for the most part. Let me preface this by saying that we have liked going to Cozy Diner for a while and have typically had good food and service. We have gone for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Never a problem. Usually. We met up with bout of town guest for brunch today in hope of a good meal. Something is going on because today was a disaster. The strawberry crepes were horrid! It was smothered in a cheap imitation canned strawberry gooey mess that tasted really bad. I mean Denny's actually tasted better. It was mentioned to the Mgr who shrugged it off and said "don't order so much of the sauce" What? We didn't know but came swimming in goo! The server was NOT friendly. She forgot the hash browns and when asked got an attitude then came back and literally tossed it on the table and kept on rolling. That was just my nieces order. I ordered a burger and fries. Easy peasy. Nope. The bun was glued on by melted cheese and I had to tear the bread just to squeeze in some condiments that were in the side. What a mess, not to mention that the fries were old. Literally half of them were over cooked and a different color than the others on my plate. How do you ruin french fries?! Speaking of plate, did I mention that instead of placing the hot plate on the table so we could scoot it down she actually leaned across the table, across 2 other people and handed me a HOT dish to burn my hand on. The whole experience today was unpleasant from start to finish and insult to injury was that the Mgr didn't care. Not as much as an apology but instead just walked away.
